Bad quality poor customer service – product is poorly build, i used Dell laptops from 1997 but recent few products are very poor in quality. In addition, i think Dell customer service try to push the responsibility of the claims as much as possible. One of the silicon landing pads came off and was very annoying as it results to make scratches on my table. Product is with under… Read more

warranty, but customer support rep keeps saying it is an accidental damage. Product did not drop or abused and also no any other marks /scratches or evidence showing any accidental damage to the product but Dell keep rejecting and saying it is not covered. As an engineer this seems to me as a design flaw or poor-quality material. My next computer definitely will not be a dell. *** update As of today 05/ March 23 no response for emails 3 emails i sent to Dell . Also there is no direct email contact of Dell for any complains.

Big Design problem – The computer is good for my needs specs and all in all is a good product. BUT, there is a big issue with the design, the keyboard is silver and the characters are white with a back lit that make things worst. I can't not even type because I can't see the letters in my keyboard. I still do not understand how this computer was approved to go to production. Do not but it, you won't be able to see or type. Show details

Solid but could be better – Pretty solid laptop. Bought it to play games and for word processing for work. Runs my games well enough, although they don't run well on the higher graphics settings (as the graphics card is only entry level). However the spacebar is not very responsive if you hit the side of it, only responds if you hit the middle or very firmly press the side, which can be frustrating for word processing. Show details

a good workman-like laptop – i purhased this from dell on ebay paying $1500 v list price $2300. I am quite pleased with the device's performance as I use it for a considerable amount of photographic and video work which is unduly resource hungry - it has an i7 processor and a 1TB SSD.

REGRET purchase – Do not buy a DELL... if you want to spare yourself some heartache. My bad that I did not read the reviews (mostly one-star!) from frustrated users before I made my purchase, now I am a frustrated user myself. The laptop (Inspiron 15 5510). After only 13 months, the laptop's trackpad started to malfunction intermittently and we had to use an… Read more

external mouse, then 2 months later, the screen just completely died. Out of the many laptops we have used, none has failed in such a short period of time.

But the worst is yet to come... Dell's customer no-service! They said the replacement screen and trackpad parts are not available, have been ordered and will arrive in Australia in about 10 days! Who knows how long it will take to actually get to us? I asked for a loan unit meanwhile but no, they don't provide such a service. Basically, they are not giving the user any option but to wait until they are ready to fix your problems. I told them we cannot go without the laptop for a couple of weeks but they don't care. The person whom the issue was escalated to was apparently a manager. He was rude, talked loudly on top of my voice, was sarcastic and basically had no intention to help. I don't know if this is Dell's service culture or simply a bad employee. So, we're not getting any help despite paying additional $440 for premium support. Never again a Dell for us.

Worst quality check and customer service – As per Dell suggestion BIOS has been updated from their site and it crashed my system. I have requested them to refund and they confirmed back it was done. There is no update from their support team for almost a month and now they are saying it is more than 30 days so they can't arrange for refund - this is pathetic. I won't use or recommend Dell in my life. Show details

Good laptop but has some issues – Pros: This is really a good laptop. I purchased this in 2015 since then works like a charm (till date 2019). I use most of my engineering software and it does work pretty well Con: Too much Glare out of the screen. It is even worst if you are sitting outside. Show details

Could be better – We purchased the computer 1.5 years ago. It was delivered 2 days after ordering it. Super efficient. It has 1TB SSD. 16GB RAM. I went for bigger rather than just enough. We haven't loaded heaps of documents or photos from the previous computer on to this one, so it's not working under a big load. I like the keyboard, it has a good feel about it.… Read more

Everything about the computer has generally been good and we haven't had any of the issues that so many others have listed, thankfully. It was dropped once from a low height but survived, with only small damage around the power and usb ports, which was fixable with a little panel beating. One thing I read after purchasing it was that it was not recommended to use on your lap. It's a laptop! That's how it's going to be used! I assume this relates to cooling and possible interference with airflow, but it's a laptop! Design it to cope with how it will be used. My only big disappointment is that the battery life is pretty poor. It doesn't last a full day without being charged for a second time. I can see that it won't be too long and it will remain plugged in most of the time. Also the fan has become noisy in the last few months (just outside warranty!), which I thought may have been a build up of dust but I cleaned the fan and it made little difference. The fan comes on a lot too. Just recently, opening the screen was enough to bring the fan on, which isn't logical.

Would I buy another one? Hard to know. Reviews of other brands are not particularly enticing either however I expected DELL to be better than what a lot of people are having issues with. I have a Mac too, which I consider a better computer, I just find Windows easier to use, probably because that's what I grew up on.

Dead on the Third Day – Will not turn on on the third day. Led charger indicator beside charger port is not lighting up. Tried charging using the USB-C port, still nothing. Called Dell Support and they advised the motherboard needs to be replaced. Will just return the laptop. Looks like this is a common and known issue. Just look for another model or company. Show details

Dell - Worst Shopping Experience with any Electronics Company ever – I placed an order directly with Dell to get Inspiron 15 - 5510 in November 2021 and I received it few days later. Following setting up the notepad (installing MS, moving all my 700 GB data...etc.) and using it for just a few days, the laptop power was off and Dell Technical support confirmed this is a motherboard issue. Dell first wanted to send… Read more

someone to replace the motherboard on-site which I totally rejected, and I asked for replacing the notepad.

I received the replacement Notepad on the new year eve and guess what?!! The new machine was also defected. The display has an issue where there is major pixilation whenever there is movement occurring on the screen. I connected the notebook to another monitor and the issue wasn't present on that monitor, so I became 100% sure it is the notebook's display / LCD that is defective. I wrote to Dell Technical Support (again) telling them that having two defected machines in just one month left me with NO trust in this model and elaborating on the damaging experience I had over almost two months. I, then, asked Dell to replace the defective machine with the higher specs Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 Laptop at NO cost as a reimbursement of all the sufferings I had over two months (setting up two machines, writing emails, so many hours talking to Dell teams over the phone explaining on my bad experience ). The different Dell teams show no sign of understanding and were totally ignorant of any customer support culture. They show no interest to compensate me for the damage Dell done for me. Even sending an upgraded notepad (that would cost them just few 100s of dollars) was not accepted as a fair compensation of the 100s of hours of suffering I had!!!!! Unfortunately, this is a true reflection of Dell's culture on customer complains!!!!

All I was able to get is a confirmation from dell is a refund and only after receiving their two defected notepads. Following many hours over the phone trying to convince them that this is not the right attitude, dell response was just a total ignorance to my complains justifying that they are following the sale contract t&cs. Well, what about your customer satisfaction policies???? Are you following the policy???

I have written emails between me and dell confirming all the above and happy to share with you on your request.

This is my worst experience with any electronics company, indeed.

Terrible laptop - super slow, lots of issues – I’ve had this laptop for 2 years and I’ve been having severe speed issues since about six months ago. Have spent hours on the phone to Dell and I thought they actually fixed it but the slowness returned after about a week. Programs are slow to load, internet browsing constantly freezes. I’m so frustrated by the whole thing. Bought from Good Guys a… Read more

Good for general everyday use, but not a standout performance model – I bought this on sale for $1200 (inclusive of +1 year onsite warranty). I thought this was reasonably cheap for the specs I was getting. I was hoping to use this for IT coursework involving programming and running virtual machines. While it’s pretty fast just doing web browsing and documentation work (light workload), it really struggles when put… Read more

under higher work loads, as it gets super hot and occasionally crashes. It seems the cooling just isn’t good enough, despite all the noise it makes. I’ve been extremely annoyed by this and lost a lot of work. I bought Dell because I thought they were more reliable than this. The battery life also isn’t great and I was tied to a power outlet most of the time when using it. I expected a little better than < 50 minutes even on light workloads. Screen brightness is either very bright or very dark. Doesn’t seem to have a middle ground, which is disappointing, and leads to more eye strain. The trackpad being aligned more to the left is a little odd, as I’m used to trackpads being in the middle. The laptop otherwise has a good keyboard layout and is comfortable to use. I like that it has an HDMI port, as I often like to plug in another monitor or use it with my TV. It also has a network port, which has been super useful when I’ve had wireless issues.

Pros: • Fast for web browsing and general use. • Easy to carry, not too heavy. • SSD, 16GB RAM and i7. • HDMI and ethernet ports. • Decent keyboard and layout.

Cons: • Bad screen brightness (either too bright or too dark). • Battery runs out quickly, even with light workloads. • Crashes suddenly when it gets too hot. • Doesn’t perform well under high workloads.

Would recommend this laptop (when on sale) if all you’re looking for is something to browse the internet on, do a bit of word processing or maybe watch a movie. Decent for non-IT based students who will have access to a wall socket. Otherwise I would say find something with a better battery life and which doesn’t run as hot.

Wouldn't recommend – Very slow, we sent it away to be repaired as it was so slow and came back the same. It would also randomly do updates while I was in the middle of writing assignments for uni which stressed me out as I'd loose work unless I saved every 5-10mins as there was no warning when it might switch off and update. Only had the laptop for 3yrs and now the battery has gone on it.  Show details

All good – In view of all the negative reviews I thought I should give this. Delivery took a few weeks - but as it turned out delivery was faster than the Dell website indicated when I ordered online. The laptop is great. Very fast (with the solid state drive) compared to my old one. It seems others are having difficulty with Dell service when something is not right. I am thankful I have not needed any Dell after-sales-service - everything works fine. Show details

The good, the bad and the ugly – The good: Weight is reasonable. Still working after 4 years. 2 USB3 ports. With numeric keypad. They are not as bad as many people claim. Performance is okay but only because I added another 8GB of RAM. 1TB harddisk is good. Price was okay because I purchased during a sale. The bad: The power supply doesn't get recognised way too often which… Read more

prevents it from charging. The 4.5mm plug is so cheaply made that the additional wire, needed to detect if it is an original Dell power supply, breaks inside the fairly soft plug. I had now 3 power supplies and 2 adapter cables. I.e. In the end I bought another Dell power supply with an adapter cable, so I have to replace the adapter cable only each time it stops detecting it as genuine Dell. Dell support is hopeless with this. Last time I was overseas and it took 3 weeks to get the replacement part because they didn't recognise their own part. Early stages it was possible to disable the power supply detection in the BIOS but this doesn't work anymore after many upgrades. The touch pad doesn't have dedicated mouse buttons, i.e. it is an absolute pain to get the right spot for left/right mouse clicks if you don't look at the touchpad. No service lids for harddisk, battery or RAM. Yes, that's right, you have to open up the whole housing to add RAM, replace a harddisk or the battery. No spare parts store on the website. It is much easier to buy aftermarket batteries than trying to get a quote from the service department. It came with lots of bloatware. The most annoying software was supposed to improve colours of the display but it was shocking and prevented colour calibration. I believe it was called Truecolour and the colours became only acceptable once this software was removed from the machine.

The ugly: The display is so shiny and reflective that it is good as a mirror but completely useless if you want to work outside or have light getting onto the display. I added a matte screen protector so that I could work properly. It comes with Windows 10 which repeatedly rebooted the machine while I was working because Microsoft reckons their updates are more important than my open unsaved documents. This is not really a Dell problem though.

Not sure if I would buy another one because I was happier with the cheaper Aldi machine I had before.

Good specifications - Poor quality – Purchased Dell Inspiron 5593 February 2020. Great specifications and quite a reasonable price for those specs. Lots of online suggestions about needing to discharge the machine including taking out the battery etc. … Read more

The battery is not user accessible as screws would have to be removed from the case to access the battery withing the internal parts of the machine. The Dell online information and warranty claims sites are appallingly difficult to locate anything other than continuous checking and suggestions that do not actually fix the problem. Suffice to say a refund is being requested and a written complaint to ACCC has been made. Dell already has a decision against it for its inappropriate warranty process. Bottom line - AVOID DELL.

Windows 10 mightn't help but all in all it's very frustrating piece of kit. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.. Maybe I just need to purchase a high end machine? The trouble with all technology these days is that whilst the processors might be faster, the developers are forever adding more "features" which negates any performance increase. I yearn for the day when we can have a basic OS remove all the feature's and dross to allow us users to operate the machine as intended. How many frickin screen saver and customisation options do you need!!!
