My glorified fan with wheels – To anyone looking to purchase this unit, I would recommend taking the cheaper and more effective option of placing a bucket of ice in front of a $20 fan from Bunnings!! My story (for those who are interested): After purchasing an air conditioner which I was advised would cool a space the size of a double garage by staff at JB Hi Fi, I… Read more
purchased this unit to cool my very small living room. After the airconditioner proved to be inadiquite in dropping the room's temperature at all, I moved it to my even smaller bed room (3m x 3m), with no greater satisfaction.
After discovering that the exhaust system didn't actually fix to the unit properly, leaving hot air to spew from cracks and crevices throughout, I took to it with several tubes of silecone. The airconditioner now managesto reduce my broom closet sized bedroom to a cool 27 degrees if it is a cold summer's night.
I would have preferred taking turns with my partner, pouring water over ourselves and blowing on each other to keep cool over the heap of garbage I had next to my bed making enough noise to drown out my partner's snoring (and that's REALLY loud!!). I don't know what kind of engins were invested into this thing, but with the amount of noise it makes I'm thinking of redesigning it into an amplifier for rock concerts!!!
Anyway I've had my say, but in case any readera didn't get what I was trying to say; I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Very good for what it is – OK This is not as efficient as a split system but it does a great job of cooling a room off well. We turn it on for 1 hour before we head for bed and the room is cooled enough for a good night's sleep. It is a bit noisy -but you expect that as the compressor is in the room. The small container they provide -about the size of a 500g Marg pack is… Read more
hopelessly inadequate. We put the Dimplex on a block of wood and put a 30cmX20cm 5cm high by glass container to collect the water. This collects about 1 litre an hour. So use a bigger container or vent a plastic pipe outside. It is convenient in that it is easily moved to a hot room and the air is really cold straight out of the machine.
An expensive fan – I purchased this for a caravan after reading some glowing reports. Firstly, the symbols which denote the modes are not explained at all and after having it on what I thought was cooling it turned out to be heating. Secondly a tube is required to run off excess water in the dehumidifying mode. This is not supplied and no details are given to… Read more
size needed. Anyhow I made one up and even though an excellent length and fit it leaked water from underneath all over the carpet which took days to dry out. I then tried it out on a 28 degree day. My van is 17 foot long and on 18 degrees setting after 4 hours one end was 22 degrees and the other 29 degrees. After 7 hours it was the same. I have on subsequent occasions left it on all day with similar results.
So, it is not an airconditioner which will bring the temperature down throughout it is a very expensive and noisy fan which offers some relief if you sit directly in front of it.
I am quite disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone wanting an entire room or caravan's temperature to be pulled down all through. It is only coldish when you are directly in front of it.
I later read Choices' opinion and it came last out of those tested and was given 50%,
Steer clear of this one.
Lots of noise for little effect – Bought this to knock the edge off the heat in summer for my little lounge room. Was advised at the shop it's only for small spaces, yes I know this but it is 3kW after all - theoretically as powerful as a split system but at only 1/3 the price. ha ! Really loud in operation and does very little to cool off my very small lounge room. Rubbish. I've… Read more
had to move it outside and I run the 'exhaust' pipe back in the window from the cooling vent side. Just the rush of air through this pipe without the additional compressor noise is still quite loud. As another poster notes I should have saved this $550 to put towards a proper split system. Really not much better than a $30 fan. Seemed like a good idea at the time For all that noise you would think it could actually cool a small room
Disappointing – I bought thus unit as a quick way to cool a room I use whilst I'm on dialysis. It takes about 4 hours to cool down to 28 degrees and has never been below 28. When you try them out at Harvey Norman they comfortably sit at 23 or 24 but keeping in mind that's in air conditioned premises. I am very disappointed in my purchase and I wish I had spent the extra to buy a split system
Poorly designed very inefficient machine – The first thing I noticed was the plastic piece that fits in the window to vent the back of the machine is only a metre long yet windows here in Australia are 1150mm 1350mm of 1500mm long so it was useless as it wont fit, when I rang Harvey Normans about it I was told oh well thats the way they come everyone has to design and make their own piece… Read more
to fit the window and to throw the one that came with the machine away. The other major problem is the heat vent pipe that comes out the back is not insulated so my room is getting just as hot from that whilst it is getting cold on the other side wasting so much power trying to cool the room which is getting hotter from the very machine that's supposed to be cooling the room and the reason why I bought it in the first place!! Its black and white. wastes energy, ill fitting/designed fittings very slow to cool whilst it pumps out heat from vent pipe.
Excellent portable air con – Bought this the other day when the temps soared to ~40deg, manage to get around 25-26deg in the lounge room after about 2hrs (~28sqm) according to my indoor temperature gauge. Noise was ok to me as it sounded just like as you sat next to a fan (I've had worse a/c in my life) Placing the ac away from where you would normally sit/sleep would be… Read more
helpful. The fan speed was really powerful as I faced it onto my kids bedroom from the lounge as it cooled the rm down.
I am pleased as we can use this as an a/c and a heater useful for the whole yr round. I have thought of replacing my lounge heater as well.
No more suffering in the heat waves at least. Sufficient cooling for a small lounge rm Hot exhaust leaking out the rear tube insert - but easy fix
Great and compact! however problems with samsung tv's! – This unit has been great, super cold and easy to set up. This unit is a lot smaller than i thought it was going to be and that is a massive plus! Imo the best valve for your money portable air conditioner there is! Now for the bad parts, It is quite noisy, but I've been able to sleep with it on so not too bad...... Some times the front panel… Read more · 2
want's to vibrate a bit, and that can get quite annoying if you're trying to sleep!
Came with this little plastic pan..... that is not even mentioned in the manual and don't know what to do with it. Now this is some code mix up problems with my Samsung TV remote. if i press and guide button on my samsung remote it turns on the air con and changes it to Fahrenheit..... and pressing info on the samsung remote changes it back to Celsius. Easy set up. looks great. very compact. very cold cooling! get's quite noisy and coding problems with samsung tv's.
Excellent little air-con – I just unpacked my Dimplex GDC10RCWB and it took only seconds to assemble and switch on. The instruction manual is very clear and the panel is intuitive and user-friendly making it easy to adjust. Immediately, the unit started blowing COLD air and cooling down the room. It was so efficient that I actually had to turn it off after 30 minutes or… Read more
so! I also like that there are no messy drip pans to deal with and no need to put water into the unit. Just place the hose in the window, with the easy-to-use panel, and switch the little guy on. This is going to be a lifesaver on hot summer days, especially during heat waves. I could not be happier with its performance or ease of use. Highly recommended. COLD air; cools room quickly; no drip pans
The Best Summer Investment – I've just bought this little unit, it's fantastic, cooled my room (4x4m) in minutes. Very compact size. Can by used as a heater in winter. Very easy to set up. Peace of mind with 2 year warranty (a lot of units come with 1 year only). Great price, great quality. Size, Reverse System, Ease of Use, 2 Year Warranty!!! Great Price $420 It is a little bit noisy, but which unit isn't? No Oscillating Function
Perfect little unit for my room and very cold! – I couldn't have asked for a better unit! This little beast has kept my room icy cold on these 40degree days and have been able to finally get some sleep. When the condenser comes on, it is a bit noisy but its just normal as most reverse cycle units have the motor on the outside of the house... This is all-in-one so the noise level is acceptable… Read more
but no reason to not buy it. Handy to wheel around and easy to setup anywhere near a window :)
This is a 5-star buy and well worth your money!! Instant coldness, portable, easy to operate and understand No 'fan' mode, but adjusting the temp fixes that, no oscillating feature or hose for drain-pipe. Nothing really serious.
to noisy – I don't like it - it is too noisy and i can't sleep with it - don't buy it please - it is not worth it 2 year warranty Too noisy
