Had high hopes for this highly rated and expensive toaster. Found that if the middle is a nice brown the edges are burnt - every time. Turn it down and the edges are ok but the middle is hardly toasted. Very disappointed- wasted my money! Show details
After years of purchasing “premium” brand toasters we finally discovered Dualit. This is a British handmade brand. It is certainly more expensive, but as it is fully repairable (in Australia), with many self repair spare parts, we think it’s a bargain. It is a serious toaster, with manual dials and lifter. The bread is evenly browned, beautifully… Read more
crisp and perfect on the inside as well. It is extremely hot when working, and definitely not suitable to be placed under an overhead cupboard, but it does the job perfectly. I would describe every other toaster I have owned as basically a bread warmer, no matter how many times you re toast the bread. A 5 year warranty for domestic use shows the manufacturers confidence in their product.
MORE THAN HAPPY WITH MY DUALIT TOASTER – I have had a DUALIT four slice toaster for nearly 10 years.....YES 10 years! Touch wood, I have never had any trouble with it. I don't force bread in it that is too big, never put anything in it that is not bread and always keep it clean. Yes, I thought it a bit pricey when I bought it BUT it has made perfect toast for 10 years. I only put the… Read more
dial on for how many pieces of bread I want to toast, not dial on 4 when I want to toast 1. Like anything, if you want a quality product, you have to pay for it and when you have it, LOOK AFTER IT!
Old faithful – I have had my Dualit toaster for over 30 years. Never a problem. I clean it regularly and it looks as good as new. It toast perfectly. I mainly toast sourdough bread. I also toast from frozen. Only thing is the bread must not be too thick else it may jam. My fault not the toaster. It may be expensive, but it has no electronics and that leads to its longevity. A sound investment.
What an experience – Looking for a toaster that simultaneously burns one side of the bread whilst keeping the other completely white and uncooked? Well look no further than the Dualit “NewGen” toaster! This toaster will ensure that you are single handedly responsible for the energy crisis as it will continue to cook the air even after you’ve taken the toast out,… Read more
aaand no off switch! Too good to be true right?
But it gets better! For a small fee of $400 you can feel like you’re stuck in the 1920’s Victorian era as this beauties got wind up knobs and a manual ejector lever!
Expertly designed by Jigsaw from the blockbuster hit Saw, this appliance will give you hours and hours of pain, making you regret your decision to ever feel the desire to toast bread.
So why wait? Get your soul crushing toaster today!
Parts are available and you are likely to need them sooner than you think – Worked well for about three months (toasts evenly) then the clockwork timer 'twist' knob failed (it didn't hold in place when a time was set and immediately sprung back to the start). I was informed that these regularly fail. A new part is on its way, which I will have to fit myself as there are no local service agents. I wouldn't recommend these… Read more
toasters - I do not think the quality of the parts (or build) matches the retail price. You are, I'm afraid, paying for the name - I think they used to be well made, sadly, in my opinion, this may no longer be the case. The advantage remains that they can be repaired (by you) - so get ready to buy the replacement parts, you will need them...
What a disappointment! – One would think with a price tag north of $500 and a whole schtick about the hand-assembled, made-in-UK, best of British blah blah, that you could rely on this thing to turn out evenly-toasted bread, and some consistency of results when using the same setting. Not so. Near burnt on one edge, still white on the other. The two sides similarly… Read more
schizophrenic - burnt on one, underdone on the other. That's with normal flat bread slices. Don't even get me started on Turkish bread which burns to a cinder on the edges before the centre has even had a chance to muster a blush. My $35 Kmart toaster I retired on looks, purely because we finally got our new kitchen, is STILL more predictable and reliable after five or so years of service. I feel I have been rorted. Don't waste your money if you actually want to enjoy toast and not just a pose.
Dualit the only toaster to last a lifetime – Bought our 4 slice 20 years ago, used daily and its never missed a beat - master using the minute timer for controlling the browning and it a doddle for any type of bread or thickness.
An old school toaster that is as simple as it comes and does what the others can't - cook toast evenly and quickly – Spare parts are affordable and readily available to keep it running for years to come; so if you consider that this thing will outlast it's competitors and do a better job along the way, the value for money is actually there. Only question should be do you get the 2 or the 4 slice? – Bought about 10 years ago (I last updated this review 4 years ago so added a recent photo, the coffee machine has been upgraded, and the butter dish repaired!) used daily, works perfectly. Home made bread mostly. Toast doesn’t get stuck! Timer lets you know when it’s done just by its final click finish. I’d buy another tomorrow Show details · 1
Waited years to buy and so disappointed – Waited years for one of these beautiful toasters as couldn’t justify the price tag but my cheap reliable toaster died and so I got my beauty. I have been so disappointed with it from day one. I never get a consistent even toast. Ever! Sometimes burns sometimes only part burns. An absolute nightmare with a family of 5. Biggest disappointment for something that looks so good! Show details
The best toaster – I was sick of replacing my electronic toasters (Breville and Kitchenaid) over the last 4 years. Seems the electronics don’t last so I plugged for the top range Dualit 4 slice toaster. It’s just perfect in its simplicity. No electronics, cooks bread quickly and evenly. Looks great. Came with a 5 year warranty. Highly recommend Show details
Best toaster solid unit built to last – I’ve toasted a variety of breads in this toaster, fruit, rye, seeded. From fresh to frozen this unit does a stellar job every time. It looks great, it’s a classic design where everything is mechanical, the toast needs to be lifted manually by a leaver, there is an old school timer to turn the elements on & off. It’s built like a tank & looks… Read more
beautiful on the bench top. Some other reviewer mentioned parts being as much as the unit that’s total nonsense, they’re reasonably priced, but I know a few people who have owned this model for years with no parts needing to be replaced.

Know better, choose better.
Faulty and too costly to repair – Looks nice, otherwise not any better than a cheap toaster, actually worse. The timer is a design fault and commonly malfunctioning problem. Eventually goes after only a few years. Did I mention it is what activates the toaster so when it gets stuck as it commonly does, boom=instant fire hazard. Also it's selling point is that everything is… Read more
repairable. Great, but the parts generally cost more than other toasters. Also the timer, which is designed faulty, once replaced for the cost of another toaster will probably just need replacing in a few years again. Slots are too small for larger artisanal bread. Great for supermarket bread though. Avoid if you value your money and/or a house not on fire.
Great toaster, poor quality, terrible customer support – I bought my Dualit toaster new less than a year ago. I like the simple design, and the wide slots, which can accommodate and toast anything from dainty slices to doorsteps. I bought on recommendation, and paid a lot of money for this toaster because I was assured that they were not just reliable, but almost bulletproof. Ten months on, the timer… Read more
unit has failed, leaving me with a beautifully designed stainless steel brick, and Dualit refuse to honour the warranty because I emigrated and brought the toaster with me to my new home, and refused to help me locate a service engineer in Australia.
Premium price point, but budget levels of service.
I would advise thinking long and hard before buying, particularly if you are not in the UK.
Very durable toaster – This toaster is one of the best I’ve owned. I tried to kill myself with by putting a fork in it and it didn’t even shock, saved my life. Don’t put onion dip in it, it will break. Show details
Best toaster on the market any where in the world – This toaster looks so good in our kitchen cool copper ends and highly polished chrome in the middle. It can switch for one slice to two slices to three or even all four slices. Also a very good switch for toast to be warmed up again with out drying out the toast. It toast crumpets and sourdough to perfection. Every part is replaceable not a throw away toaster like a lot of other expensive toasters Show details
A convert since 1988 – I saw the 6-slice version of this toaster many years ago, hard at work in a residential home and fell in love...with the toaster, I hasten to add. Shiny, clunky and unabashedly anachronistic, this piece of mechanical hardware never failed to deliver, slice after slice after slice of perfectly-browned toast. Years later, married and with two young… Read more
children, I decided to splurge and buy the four-slice Newgen for my own household. Dear reader, I have never looked back. Yes, you need the utilise the Vario racks whenever you toast anything thicker than 1cm and, yes, I've often ignored this rule, taken my chances and ended up trying to prise the disembowelled remains of charred chunks of carbohydrate from the jaws of my toaster for several hours afterward....but I have to say it's been a very faithful workhorse for the past 12 years. I bought a Dualit toaster in the knowledge that the elements could fail - with part of the attraction being that these were replaceable - but this hasn't happened, well not yet, anyway. I have become intimately acquainted with all of my little metal mate's quirks, such as which setting to use for what shade of toast, and the fact that the dial is slightly too eager to ping round to zero once it reaches a certain point. I can't complain. It rarely gets a day off. It's English, it's iconic and I love it. The question is, should I now buy a young, attractive Dualit kettle to keep it company...?
Finally a toaster that works – After years of dodgy electronic toasters, I finally have a toaster that just does one thing well - it toasts. No gimmicks, no electronics, just a toaster & a rotary timer. It seems expensive but once you use it you will realise that it will outlast 4 of those $100 gimmicky toasters.
Hopeless – This has been a disappointing purchase. Frustratingly variable toasting results. After only six months and only one slot works. The timer constantly sticking and hence incinerating toast but quite expensive to replace. I haven't pursued a repairer as I think it would be cheaper to get something that works .
Pleasantly surprised of the quality and workmanship – Compare to the UK not much information here in Australia. Went through the process of is it really worth purchasing the this toaster. Reviews from here and also in Australia we decided to bite the bullet. It is well built, toast are evenly cooked on each side. If this fails parts are easy to get and replace. We purchased two sandwich grills and can make cheese and tomato, and any other ideas that we can image.
