Unstable GT1000 Ducati – Purchased new a 2010 Ducati, encountered a small ridge in the road, bike went into a tank slapped and through me off. Unstable machine. Show details
07 Ducati GT1000 in red – Bitubo rear shocks, S4 Showa forks, custom stainless 2 into 1, Seat cowl off the sport, remoulded seat with gripper seat cover, bar end mirrors on Rizoma handle bars and now it's almost a perfect bike. Just some better calipers on the front and it will be there. Lovely punchy motor that sounds hard on the throttle and runs out of puff early but… Read more
perfect for the most head turning bike I have ever owned. Loved by young and old.
Have now added black sports classic wheels which are a lot lighter and with less rotating mass the caliper upgrade is not needed..
F'ing love it! – I own an orange 2006 monoposta (dry clutch model) and it's the guts. Yes the clutch took some getting used to but I hardened up and now it isn't a problem. Riding position is over the bars and while if your heading in a straight line your wrists need relief, but once you hit the corners/hills and lean into the corners as the bike was designed the… Read more
wrist pain goes away. The sound and look of the dry clutch model with asymmetrical swing arm is like nothing else. I made up some 12mm preload spacers for the front forks and rebound is not an issue now. I ditched the termis and put on the Zards and have never looked back. It's a unique bike and one that will be a collectors item in years to come. May not be for everyone but neither were Cougars until they became vogue.
Awesome bike- but beware, you will want to upgrade parts to handle better – Love riding it, love hearing the termis, love looking at it, love taking it to track days. It's the bomb. But, I've upgraded wheels, tyres, suspension, rear sets, tail chop... So it's cost more than I expected. Would I sell it - no way. With these mods people say it handles as well as 1098, but with much less HP. The wow feeling you get… Read more
riding this is incomparable, but yes it will take some time getting used to the riding position - ride with your thighs not your wrists. Touch wood, it's even been reasonably reliable. Amazing machine Needs customising- but that's half the fun if you have some spare $
After 26 bikes, I have found a keeper! – After 15 years of riding, I had been out of it for a while till I found out about the sport 1000. Eventually, I picked up a second hand model with only 3700kms... Termi mufflers and performance ECU. I have since fitted, Oberon clutch slave, 999 Cast Alloy rims, Showa fully adjustable front forks, 999S 4piston 4pad calipers, Fleda LED tail light… Read more
system, decent tyres.
The bike is now BRILLIANT. Very light and easy to flick in the turns compared to standard. The suspension is much much better with the decent forks and the brakes are now fantastic! I love the look. Everyone else loves the look. Every day I leave for work, I look at it and smile. Every day I come home, I look at at and smile! Heavy clutch, fixed by Oberon clutch cyliner. Heavy wheels and tube tyres fixed by swapping rims. Awful forks fixed by upgrading!
Bad – Mutton dressed up as Lamb. For a 20k bike new , left me very underwhelmed when riding it fast. Learned to live with over the years , Seeing they dont make them anymore they should hold their value well. Best suited as a Sunday Pousers Bike , rather than a everyday hack I use it for. 2007 Sport 1000S , owned from new. Has been ultra reliable… Read more
mechanicaly and not even one oil leak after 3 1/2 years , 30,000 klms + .
Great looking bike, simple ,slim and air cooled. Uncomfortable for wrists , Front forks junk , High Speed Handling Suss.
Brakes lack feel and bite. Very wooden.
Overpriced when new.
Excellent – What can I say about a bike like this, she could be better, she could be easier to ride, she could be less single minded but then there might not be the passion. She reminds me of what I originally loved about motorcycles - over recent years I had forgotten, the ergonomically advanced creations soothed me and comforted me untill I was unaware of… Read more
just how boring they had become. Maybe I need to get down to the gym and stop being such a pussy. The Ducati 1000 sport classic, especially the 2006 (single rear spring, single sided exhausts and dry clutch) may not be everyones cup of tea but to me, she's a work of art and could never, ever be described as boring. (I think I will jusy slip down to the garage to stare at her for a few minutes before bed....) I have the 2006, orange 1000 sport and it is the most beautiful looking bike I have owned over 35 years of riding. The engine sounds like a Ducati twin should especially with the straight through Termi's. The build quality is good and the engine starts first time every time. It took me about a month to get used to the riding position as there's alot of weight on the wrists. Ive tried adjusting the bars, etc but there is limited scope for movement. Ive also had trouble getting the suspension set up for the less than perfect Australian roads. I finally settled for something pretty close to the manufacturers recommendations but its still not perfect. I have to check the tyre pressures are correct fairly often, at least fortnightly as loss of pressure affects handling. I originally hoped to use this bike for a short commute to work as well as weekend fun but after a week I had to give up on that idea...she's no good in traffic at slow speeds so I ended up buying a scooter as well...scooter for work, Ducati for weekend blast, perfect.
Excellent – Great bike, great finish, great colour, good performer, easy to maintain compare to other ducati. I would never sell it. It should increase in value. I would definatly buy it again. I own a 2007 SC1000S I own it since new(my 60th birthday present). I have installed Termi exhaust, smaller front sproket, bar end mirrors, a rear wheel hugger and a… Read more
dark screen. I love the look of the bike. I found it to be very comfortable expecially on long trips (1000 Km in one day)as long as you don't hit heavy traffic.
I removed the handlebar spacer when I first got it but now I put it back to give me the riding position which was design for. Easy to service. Draw attention where ever I stop.good finish. Heavy traffic is hard on my wrist. Tube tyres I prefer tubeless. Front fork are a bit of dissapointment.
Good – If you are looking for something different and original you can't go wrong. If you are looking for a direct by direct comparison to other bikes , buy something else there are easier and more comfortable bikes to ride. But if you want to open your garage door and smile every time you see it , buy it, ride it and stop worrying about all the… Read more
little shortcomings. If it was that easy to ride and be able to go around the country in comfort everyone would have one wouldn't they?
I find the comments that it is a weekend posuer bike odd , The very nature and design of original cafe racer was to race in the UK from cafe to cafe not endurance race at Daytona , so enjoy whiat it was designed for . If you want to have daily transportation to get you to work buy a scooter or even better a car. Currently have a 2006 black sportclassic with Termi's and other mods. It is a fun weekend bike, wouldn't want to ride across the country in it. Never bought it to be an every day commuter but for the weekends and the odd track day it is a blast. It sounds great , and looks great. Given that it is quite unique looking it never fails to draw comments from riders an non riders alike.I like the fact that it is loud, fast enough for me and is not just another cookie cutter looking sport bike. Was considering trading it in for an 848 evo also great bike, but knew I would regret losing this one so I did not. Yes the wrist issue is true , you have to get the risers. Additionally squeezing the clutch is very stiff after a couple of 20 minute track sessions or a long weeknd ride my left hand would go numb. Fixed it with changing to Aftermarket clutch cylinder also sounds nuts but I manned up and bought a $10 wrist developer couple of squeezes every night before you go on long ride problem solved.
Also best mod was installing a throttle tamer tube that rolls on the power much smooth and easier, found that with fuel injection and the V Twin that is was very lurchy or seemed to be all or nothing at low speeds. This gave me much greater confidence iin rolling on the throttle and applying power while coming out of corner or maintaining slight power throughout corner.
Good – top good looking bike love owning one, make the front sproket change to one tooth smaller and change to the riser style handle bars if you are having sore wrists like me, and check out Gelong carbon craft for some trick carbon fibre that is cheaper and better than the ducati stuff. I ve been told the tyre s can be changed too which help with… Read more
change of direction so thats next for me. i have a 2006 sport classic and have loved owning it from day one , such a great looking bike made better by some carbon fibre parts from gelong carbon craft. i agree the riding position was hard to get use to with the clip on's , so i changed them for the slight riser bars from the 2008 and made it a lot better without taking away the original look, you would even know unless you have one.
But by for the best change was the smaller front sprocket i put on , it stops all the low speed "hunting" and a x ducati race mechanic cleaned up the computer.
OK – not quite the bike i had hoped for. a little to fast, may cause me to lose my licence! having said that it is a lot of fun! I have a 2008 gt 1000 in red. got rid of the ugliest mirrors out there and put on crg bar end mirrors, looks much better. It has a good lot of torque. seat very comfortable. looks real good from most angles. feels like a real… Read more
