Very Good Vac..what would you expect for the price, but then, the other mob you need a loan for – Had the Vac for some years, use it on plush carpet, does an excellent job but you would expect it for the price. I cant say its excellent, because of the price, almost $1100, I reckon Dyson could reduce the prices of the Vacs really, but then, you have that other mob, Kirby who sell vacs where you have to take out a loan to buy one. Suction… Read more
very good, attachments very basic really.
Its plastic, good quality though, barrel type and easy to empty.
I love vacuuming with this Vac, look forward to it every fortnight, just to use it.
When you pay so much, you would expect it to be better than good, some of the cheap ones are OK
I have a Kirby as well, do a review on that soon.
My guess if something goes wrong with the Dyson, it will be expensive to repair.
Any negative reviews, you have to wonder really, its a good vac, nice quality.
if anyone asked me which Vac to buy if they had the money, I would recommend this one, even though there are later models, better to stay with what you know and happy with.
Does what it needs to and stands the test of time – (Edited June 2020) This Dyson served our family for fifteen years and it still did a fantastic job of keeping the floors clean when I felt like upgrading to a newer Dyson! We had the occasional blockage here and there, but easily fixed if you know what you're doing. Suction is still powerful as ever due to regular maintenance, all it needs is the filter cleaned every 6 months then good to go! Powerful suction, easy to empty and maintain Show details · 1
Powerful machine but the hose design lets it down – We purchased this model over three years ago as a replacement for a Wertheim 6030, a machine so frustrating to operate that I wanted to use it as a boat anchor. When I initially bought the DC15, I had issues with the hose being very stiff and the recoil on it being so strong that you needed one hand to hold the hose out and the other to use… Read more · 1
it. I very nearly took it back that week but I was told by Dyson Customer Service that this would become more flexible with use. Three years on and the recoil will still pull the machine to you with next to no effort and there has been no noticeable improvement in flexability. It has become discouraging to use the hose because it leaves me with aching wrists. It's also time consuming to get the hose ready for use and fiddly if you're trying to detach the rod so that you can just use the hose. Constant switching from hose to floor is something I now actively try to avoid doing.
For the machine itself, I have since compared it to other models and found it is comparatively heavier but it is a powerful machine that does a great job picking up pet hair from our three large dogs. It also works well at picking up broken glass out of the front lawn and off the driveway (although I'm pretty sure that's not covered in the recommended use guide). It also does seem like quite a noisy unit, not something you'd want running if someone is in another room on the phone or watching tv, or if you have neighbours nearby and want to use it early in the morning.
It does transition very easy from carpet to hard surfaces and you can easily turn off the brushes if required. When using it on hard floors with the brushes on, it's powerful enough to suck dirt and pet hair out from under furniture.
I found that the crevice tool's design with air vents around the tip noticeably affects the suction you get from it and this became quite frustrating at times. I think this was intended so that you don't overload the motor but the safety cutoff kicks in very easily, leaving you with far less than satisfactory suction and rendering the tool almost useless in some applications.
Emptying the bin is very easy with a one touch button and once emptied, you can just flip the container closed again.
We've just replaced the brushes and I'd forgotten that it almost pulls itself along the carpet which takes some of the weight out of using it. We've punished this machine with daily use in some challenging situations and nothing has worried it. Apart from the hose and crevice tool, I have been impressed with the performance and durability.
Would I buy another DC15? No. The hose design and recoil is just too frustrating and tiring to use. Would I buy another Dyson upright? Possibly yes but I'd want to give it a thorough test run first. Powerful machine, excellent suction, very easy to empty. The design of the hose, the lack of available suction on the crevice tool.
Negative five out of five! – Let me be blunt, if you like elevated blood pressure and endless hours of frustration, then the DC15 is for you. Other than that, it would have to be one of the worst vacuum cleaners ever designed. Forget the hype, there is really nothing good about this cleaner once it's out of the pristine environment of the shop demonstration area. After… Read more
several months, the extendible hose at the back starting getting harder and harder to extract because the design is so bad that any dust or muck inside the hose will prevent the pole from sliding up. Now just over a year and a half of use, this thing is ready for the scrap heap because it's not worth spending the money to fix. The hose section is totally non functional and the rest is all noise and no action.
It's reasonable on carpet (due to the electronic brush head) but absolutely useless on hard flooring. We have a 15 year old Miele which, even with full bag, provides greater suction and performance than this show pony. Then lets talk about the noise. At normal operation this marvel pumps out over 90 decibels which is the equivalent of a seasoned Banshee visiting your house. If you manage to pry the hose extension off you get an extra gift of audible pain. The hose end has slots in it, which turn the assembly into the equivalent of a industrial dog whistle. On average you're subjected to 110 decibels which is guaranteed to leave you with a nice headache after your daily chores. The only positive would be that there is little chance of the rest of the family hearing your cursing as you use it.
Sorry, but there's nothing good to report about this vacuum - at all! Save your sanity and your dollar by looking elsewhere.
Hose attachmeent is a terrible design; It's awkward, Very Noisy! Complicated;
OK – For $999 RRP I thought I would be more happy. Dust goes everywhere when I empty it outside. The hose gets sucked back into itself when trying to use it to clean the cars/ couch etc. Pain to use on hard floors. The design of the head doesn't pick up that well, and when you connect the combo floor tool the hose sucks itself back in. Got this vacuum… Read more
in December 2009 and not even after 12 months I am over it. The house has a dog smell when I vacuum, and the filters are cleaned every 3 months and the dust container is emptied after each use. If I lived in a house with only carpet I would have kept it, however, with changes that are being made to my house, we will soon have more floorboards and tiles than carpet, so its time to put on eBay etc. The ball design is a good idea, just wish it was easier to use on hard floors. Excellent on carpets, removes all dog hair from the carpet in one pass. Washable filters, standard package comes with a Mini Turbo Brush and combo floor tool I wash my filters every 3 months as my house gets quite dusty, and empty it after every use, however it always seems to smell like dirty dog.
Good – I love my Dyson and now actually enjoy vacuuming. I am constantly amazed (and repulsed) at how much filth is removed from carpets (even when carpets were new). Would highly recommend. My mum bought a smaller version, after using mine, and is as happy as me. Will never consider any other brand! Removes fine pet hair and though heavy it's easy to use (and i have bad shoulders). Can't use it on my hard floor.
Bad – So ever since I moved out of home I have heard how fantastic the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner is, so I finally purchased this one. It was soooo expensive and I was sooo excited only to be quite dissapointed. Yes it is an excellent vacuum on carpet, but you have to use the hard floor head for it to do even a reasonable job on the tiles. It is heavy and… Read more
cumbersome to lift. Although it has a large barrel I have to empty it mid clean (I have a large house & 3 kids undre 5 so you can imagine how dirty how floors get quickly!)The filters are easy to wash out but must be totally dry before refitting - great in the summer when you can get them dry, not so great in the winter when it may take a couple of days to dry. The wand can be difficult to get back in. Overall I'm really dissapointed by this vacuum cleaner that is meant to be the world leader. Cleans really well on Carpet Heavy, Expensive & not a great cleaner for the tiles.
Amazing suction and thorough clean - makes cleaning easy! – My mother-in-law wanted to buy us a dyson vacuum cleaner for our wedding present and I nearly fainted when I saw the price of the Dyson DC15 HEPA - my family had only ever had cheaper little vacuums that had moderate suction but that made cleaning hard work. She insisted as did my hubby (they have always had dysons) so in the end I caved. And boy… Read more
am I glad I did!
We have had our dyson for just over 3 years now and it still cleans as well today as it did 3 years ago. It has amazing suction - we have 2 cats and 2 malamutes and it manages to pick up the pet hairs without any difficulty. The height and design of the vacuum makes it super easy to use and is friendly on your back and posture (I'm a physio and would highly recommend this for people who have lower back pain). The ball makes it easy to turn and the different brushes attach on to the extendable handle to allow you to get to all those hard to reach places. I love our dyson and when (or if) it breaks down, we will definitely be sticking to dyson for our future vacuums! Turns easily, fantastic suction, great features, easy on the back and posture Very expensive, heavy
Cleans very efficiently – Great vacuum cleaner. I am very pleased with how much dirt it lifts out of the carpets every time. Quite expensive but worth it and you can usually find it somewhere on special. When we bought it, I vacuumed our lounge room with my old vacuum cleaner first then went over it again with the Dyson DC15 HEPA. The bin was full!!! I have a double… Read more
storey house and I find it quite difficult and heavy to manage cleaning the stairs. I also find that I'm for ever having to pull out the hose and put on another attachment to clean under couches/beds etc and to clean skirting boards. It is easy to maneuver and doesn't lose suction. I have a lot of tiled floors and you need to remember not to use the turbine function on these floors or it just blows the dirt around. I love the fact that Dyson email me reminders about when to clean my filters etc. Great follow-up service. Overall, the clean that it performs allows me to overlook the smaller problems of heaviness and having to constantly pull out the hose. Fantastic clean, easy to use, Heavy, constantly have to use the hose to clean under furniture
Good – This was a purchase made by my husband who loves his gadgets. As much as I love this vacuum cleaner, I do believe there must be something out there more affordable and just as good. However, if you can afford it, then go for it! Easy to use and manouvre. Cleans well, both carpeted and wooden (floor boards) floors. Stores easily, if you have the… Read more
upright cupboard space. Can easily see when it needs to be emptied, due to its clear body. We have had ours approx 3 years now and have never had any problems with it. Very expensive - it was $999 full price when we got ours, but we paid $790 due to having bought other things at same time. Quite sizeable and heavy. Some of the attachments can be tricky and time consuming to use. Can't easily get under low furniture.
Good – I bought this vacuum cleaner after purchasing new carpet, and as I have two cats that love to shed I needed a powerful vacuum that easily picked up pet hair as well as dirt. The power head made easy work of cleaning the floors and makes my carpet look as new as the day it was laid. The nifty storage of the hand tools on the side of the unit also… Read more
time saving, with no fishing around in the cupboard for the attachments. Despite being a heavy vacuum, the rollerball makes easy work of manoevering around the furniture, however it does make it impossible to clean under beds and low furniture. This is my second Dyson and I am just as thrilled with this one as I was with the first. Great for Pet Hair
Compact, easy to store
No loss of suction
Easy to empty
Easy to manoeuvre Heavy
Cumbersome to clean under beds etc
Excellent – After review all the users comment, i decided to buy this vacuum cleaner and it's really worth the value. It's seem like this vacuum cleaner can have the same effect from the brand Rainbow (which cost 4 times more expensive). the suction is so powerful that it really can able to capture the dust completely in the bin. If you have allergy, this… Read more
product will definitely suit you! Really able to clean the carpet and able to see how dusty the house can be. the size is a bit hard to store...
Excellent – I have had mine for 3 years and it hasnt missed a beat. The suction is still as strong and it always needs emptying after a couple of vacumns. The worst part was figuring out where all the pieces fit but you get used to it and it comes with helpful diagrams. By far it is the best vacumn cleaner around and it doesnt hurt my back. You can get… Read more
quite far under the bed without having to use the telescopic wand. I would recommend it. suction is great. No bags, easy to move around. Provides great carpet pile look. Large container for dust. Quite heavy if you need to pick it up, expensive.
Find out how Dyson DC15 Hepa compares to other Upright Vacuum Cleaners
Know better, choose better.
Good – my parents in law have the dc15sy (the yellow one). i dont dislike this machine but it is just way too heavy for me i think thats why i decided on the dc19y as im only dealing with the handle. dont think id go for any other brand of vaccuum as this one has lasted my parents in law over 5 years. heavy duty picks up alot of dust and dirt from the… Read more
carpet, lifts the carpet too for a cleaner look extendable wand is great for the ceilings and getting in the smaller spaces like the sliding door frames. really really heavy. it nearly breaks my back trying to lug it out of the cupboard and pushing it in front of me, wish uprights had a retractable cord instead of havinf to manually wind it up.
Excellent – Fantastic - well worth the money. Cleans beautifully (don't get suckered into buying the traditional type of cleaner as they're useless compared to this). Picks up everything - in fact, when you hit a really dirty spot, the machine sucks really hard until it's all cleaned up. Easy to manoevre around furniture and tight spots. Really easy to empty. Also came with complimentary handheld Dyson cleaner. Nothing - fantastic product.
Excellent – It's my 3rd Dyson, by choice! have 2 cats, dog and 2yr old daughter and this unit is rock solid! If anything a little bulky but a A+ machine, backed with GOOD customer service - yes it is true! They pick up everything - I even use mine to do the garage. It's a Dyson!!! more patents on their machine than any other.. loads technology that works!!… Read more
washable lifetime filters.. and a load of attachments that are available to make the job easier, and they do.. mmmmm.. it is big n heavy (if you lift ya vacuum}..no auto cable rewind and no blower function - if ya want/need it.
Excellent – Worth every penny, it is easy to used, very efficient, great for pet hair, the tools and wand are very useful and close at hand being attached to the unit. I have never enjoyed vacuuming till now because I can see all the dirt through the clear cylinder & I know I am not wasting my time. What a fantastic vacuum cleaner, replaced a 18+ year old Vax… Read more
that just wasn't doing it's job anymore. Have had no problems with it except the first week I was so amazed at how good it did the job I got a sore shoulder from over vacuuming as the Vax had left a lot of crap behind in my carpet eg day 1 the dyson suck 1kg of dirt and pet hair out of the house I was amazed & embarrassed at the same time -- but not any more. Very maneuverable with the ball. Nothing to dislike but warning do not go overboard using it the first week especially if you are use to a barrel type vacuum.
Excellent – I recommend this Dyson cleaner, it is very efficient and easy to use. I work in a large nursing home and they purchased this Dyson April 2007. It certainly does a good job and is lightweight to push around. It gets used every day for 1 - 2 hours and so far has never broken down. The downside I found to the 'ball'steering was it affected my wrist… Read more
as I had suffered a small wrist injury in the past and found the steering/twisting made it sore, but I now wear a wrist guard and it is fine. The carpet is very flat so I dont know if it would be harder to push on pile carpet. Also the attachments were getting knocked off the top of the cannister a lot but that is because it is used so much every day. Overall I think it is a good cleaner. Lightweight and easy to use. Seeing all the dirt collecting in the see- through cannister. The extendable wand is a bit fiddly to use.
Excellent – i l o v e mt dyson, it is easy to use and a breeze to clean. i have had it for 2 years and have had no problems. it still cleans as well as when i bought it. and i am neglectful with cleaning the filter. (should be 6 mths... i do it about 9-12 mths) i use it every day almost with kids, and it has had a beating, high;y reccommend it. easy to… Read more
empty- no dust just push the button and it falls out! hepa filter great for athsma. head turns to clean carpet so much better than other cleaners. pretty expensive.
Excellent – I will never by anything other than Dyson. Worth every cent it costs. Since buying one myself every extended family member has bought one too. We love Dyson. Brilliant product, brilliant customer service.
Excellent – I vacuumed my whole house yesterday with my nilfisk. I have OCD so i went over everything twice. I decided to buy a new DC15 today because of some reviews i read. All i can say is WOW looks like my nilfisk was not even lifting any dirt-dust. The DC15 was full in 10 minutes. Sad but true. I couldnt be happier i just hope it lasts more than 5 years… Read more
and goes the distance. AWESOME AWESOME VAC
Its heavy and the power cord does not retract. Even so i love it
Excellent – This is the most brilliant vac I have used in fifty years of doing the job. I have used many brands, but was absolutely gobsmacked to see how clean this machine got everything. Have had this vac for some six months now, and was blown away the first time I used it. I had cleaned the house with our old 2200 watt vac, then used the out of the… Read more
box DC 15 and was staggered at the amount of hair and dirt it collected. It even changed the colour of our carpet squares it got them so clean. I use it in our own home and also in the guest house I manage. This cleaner leaves nothing behind. Dirt from work type boots from the farm, leaves, pet hair, sand, and things left behind when kids have fun, all get collected effortlessly with one sweep. This is one serious vacuum cleaner. Well done Dyson, should have bought this 20 yrs ago. Unbelievable suction for the tiny motor. Very easy to use on all surfaces. Totally eliminates pet hair from floor carpets and beds. Discharge air is clean, fresh and odourless. There is absolutely Nothing to dislike about this vac. It is light-years ahead in technology.
Excellent – After owning a very similar bagless vacuum that was made by hoover we were amazed at what this dyson could pick up. After using this vacuum once it had lifted all of the stubborn pet hair and fluff that had been left behind by our previous vacuum. I can't speak highly enough about this product and have recommended it to everyone I have met that… Read more
is in the market for a new vacuum. You definately get what you pay for with this product. Everything, it truly is an amazing machine that will leave every owner satisfied with it's performance. The price can be a little hard to swallow.
