Nope.... poor battery quality after the second one this expensive unit is going in the bin – Use on wooden floors, tiles and carpet rugs. Power always just under what's needed for internal roller brush to keep spinning/operating and requires stopping the vac moving every few feet, wait for it to spin up, and go again - even though rug is not thick or plush. Way too expensive and overpriced but marketing was good so was sucked in- have to… Read more

go to ducted vacuum for anything more than a few rooms or for deep vacuum. Will never go to dyson again and have gone back to electrolux. *UPDATE - replacement was a TINECO and it is SOOOOOO quiet > I have had to reduce this one's noise score rating, as Dyson is so much noisier now that we can compare to new models.

Never again 2nd time same issues – I bought a Dyson a 4 years ago . After 2 years wouldn't charge anymore. However got a new update model hoping it would be better made for battery life this time round. Well been 16 months and same issues battery life dying. Was not lasting as long to now only last after being charged for over night 5 minutes at most. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Spend so… Read more

much money on this product and crap like the first. I now have a different make and model . Lesson here if the warranty is only 12 months I will not pay a higher amount for another brand like Dyson . If they can only give 12 months well thats says it all right there as both only last not long over 12 months . Why pay top dollar when can but another product with same 12 month warranty for way less. Think about it. Im done with Dyson once then twice no way now im out and done for ever. Recommend you buy something cheaper with same warranty . At least if that breaks just after that time frame you can buy a new one again with another 12 months and still be the winner.

DC45 victim here – My DC45 has been awful from the start. It would only run on “max” for a minute before shutting down. What’s the point of the setting????? The spinning brush...... constantly stops spinning. Even though I keep it fastidiously clean (which means cleaning it about as often as using it). I’m on my 2nd spinning brush attachment. Also worth noting… Read more

that I had to buy the replacement for a hundred dollars.

Now, after a few years, the brush just doesn’t spin no matter what you do, and the vac itself will only run for a minute before it shuts down. It’s junk.

I’m sure the folks at Dyson would be overjoyed if I were to buy a new vacuum from them every few years, as clearly they’ve designed them to last no longer than that but why would I pay the “Dyson premium” for something so poorly constructed?

One and done for me in the Dyson vacs thank you very much.

Makes such a difference – I was cynical about whether Dysons are better than other vacuum cleaners so we borrowed a friend's for a day. When I saw how much fine dust we had in our tiny apartment (we had to empty it twice the first time we vacuumed), I was sold! Almost five years later, our DC45 is still going strong. Show details

Convenient, Family-friendly asset – We have used the DC45 this for about 3 years now. We have mostly hard surface floors. With three boys and a dog, it's a super handy asset for a family home. I don't find the power button to be an issue. It hangs on the wall in our kitchen and the boys can grab it and clean up (when asked / nagged to). Suction is good enough to pick up the majority… Read more

of dirt and dog hair. Placement of the product is a key factor in usefulness for us. When it was in the cupboard (ran a power cable to the cupboard) it didn't get as much use. It is kind of big and ugly on the wall however and when we do our kitchen renovation, I don't think it will stay there. A slimmer model in neutral tones would be a really good improvement in future models. Along with an easier way to release the brush bar. And improved suction.

Horrible customer service after machine failure – Same challenges as most people have mentioned re battery life before machine just stopped. We bought a replacement battery and within 4 months the machine failed again. The customer service agent we spoke to promised that we would get 25% off any new machine because our model is now discontinued, and that we would also receive a refund for the $80… Read more

we paid for the new battery. We later called back to confirm details and move forward with a purchase for a new machine and were then told by the next agent that everything that had been promised was done so in error. The DC45 is in fact not yet discontinued but they mentioned they would still honour the 25% because it had been promised to us, but they would need to follow up and confirm the refund for the battery. Several calls over several weeks later (the last 2 requiring me to follow up after not hearing anything) to check on the status of this and I finally just got word that NOTHING would be honoured. Way to go Dyson! Amazing customer service to have several agents mention you would honour the 25% and then when it was escalated to managers it apparently all disappears. Great way to lose existing, loyal customers, and future product customers!

Faulty after 3 years – We have been using the Dyson DC45 on our timber floor and few rugs, so very simple tasks. After 3 years it started showing signs of tech glitches, such as faulty trigger (the vacuum stops every 5 secs or so in the normal mode. Max mode is no longer functional, stopped working completely. I am really disappointed with the fragility of the product and the short life time. I won't considerer buying Dyson brand in future purchases. Show details

Expensive and poor quality – Very disappointed with this vacuum, I bought it 2.5 yrs ago for over $300, it has suddenly stopped working 6 months after the warranty period expired! very faulty – my wife purchased 2 dyson hand held and one larger floor unit, all three have had major issues. Both hand held units worked fine at first, soon after they would intermittently stop working while you were in the middle of vacuuming then restart soon after and this process would continue indefinitely, eventually one unit would not work at all while… Read more

the other continued with the same stop start issue which is very frustrating, have tried every fix under the sun but nothing works. Like others have noticed the vacuums seem to have an uncanny ability to play up just outside of warranty, this occurred with all three of our units which is absolutely amazing, if I didn't know any better I would suggest that this English company has deliberately designed their products to fail at a certain point in time..... just outside of warranty obviously, to read how others have had this occur and for 3 of my own vacuums to fail just outside of warranty is just too much of a coincidence, it must be by design.

Very poor value for money - 3 years old and stopped working – Well my DC45 has just died on me. It has not been charging properly for a while and this morning I took it off the charger to use and after about 30 seconds it quit. was really happy. The first Dyson hand vac I got wore out after less than a year. Dyson replaced it for me with the DC45. I don't think these vacuums live up to their promises. The roller wears out quite quickly, which results in no pickup at all when you moved the vacuum backwards towards you, just scudding of the carpet. The suction isn't great, I have to use my Dyson on maximum power every time to get my carpets clean and even then given the worn out roller they aren't great. These vacuums are expensive and Dyson relies on their reputation to be able to charge the money that they do. I won't be buying Dyson again - and I've been a customer for more than a decade.

of the price from Bunnings and I get to swop batteries with all my other tools. And it sucks just as good. Sorry Dyson. If your warranty was also 3 years no questions asked and simply just swop it at the franchise I purchased it from, I might have considered it. I expect my $400 to last at least 5 years like my $60 Kmart corded machine.

Quick and simple – The Dyson is a great little product for quickly vacuuming around the house, car or areas where a plug in vacuum is difficult. It can't really replace a main vacuum due to its 20 minutes battery time and the small storage area for dirt. My biggest gripe with Dyson is trying to get replacement heads as not all versions are available and our original one stopped working after about 18 months. A good product but get it on special then its worth it!  Show details

Reliable Portable Vacuum – I predominantly use my Dyson on Carpet at my place, but I also use it to clean my car. It's still working well even after 2 years. -It's a reliable and portable - quite light and easy to charge. -Suction is very good on high power. - Easy to clean - I use a nappy bag to empty the contents in. The only thing that could be improved with the vacuum is the battery life.  Show details

DC45 is a disappointment – The DC45 lasted 3 years then stopped working. It was cleaned out after each use and treated well. Im so disappointed it only lasted 3 years. I wouldn't purchase a Dyson again. Waste of money. My husband contacted Dyson, they said replace it or buy another back end for the DC45. whole house very well and I am not in pain after. It is easy to maneuver, has great attachments, is a space saver in our laundry with the recharge wall mount and accessory station and is easy to keep clean and maintain as per manufacture recommendations/instructions. We have had ours for over 2 years and it hasn't missed a beat. I've had two other brands before this, that have not lasted much past a year and were not worth repair. I am so thrilled we invested in the DC45, I use it daily (even multiple times during the day). My battery gave out a bit out of the 2 year warranty (another bonus that it has a 2 yr warranty) and the customer representative didn't even question me or make me feel bad and sent out a new battery, no charge, no issues. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. It is now working like new again and making my life easy! I love it! Thanks Dyson Australia for your wonderful products and customer service teams!

Sudden death 1 week after 2 yr warranty expires! – Wow! What Precision. It completely died less than week after warranty expires. Brought it back to HN and was told to read fine print about plaster board dust and corn flour that the Dyson couldn't handle to which I replied" haven't done any renovation to my home, neither do I spill corn flour. Hardly use that staff." Anyway, I removed the filter and guess what, it's clean on the motor side. I left the Dyson with them. Disappointed.  Show details

Unreliable, poor suction, poor build quality – Our first Dyson and probably our last. I can't understand why these get rave reviews because after living with one for two years I feel they are plastic garbage. It's had poor suction from day one. It's build is flimsy and there is play and flex in virtually every join. It's annoying to clean, the "cyclone" section cannot be dismantled and… Read more

Shortly after warranty expired problems aspired – Dyson is a very famous and well marketed product with the familiar image of the grey hair inventor that makes your heart melt when you first listen to his life long dreams of developing a product so good so revolutionary that every home must have one. Well apart from the resaonably good performance when the filter is clean and there is no hair… Read more

on the rotating brush, there is very little that it has going for it.

It's noisy, the have-to-hold trigger that is supper anoying, the small canister size that needs emptying after every 10m2 of carpet vacuum.

All of that is bearable because you keep convicing yourself having spent close to $500 that .. its been designed by an inventor ....a pioneer ....and it has to be so much better than anything else outthere. Right?

Wrong: I am sorry to report that i got stung, I got stung badly, not only with the initial purchase but now with another unexpected cost. THE BATTERY REQUIRES REPLACEMENT EVERY 2 YEARS.

Imagine if TESLA or Toyota Hybrids required you to change the battery every 2 years. Who would by them?

I tried to reason with Dyson to have a replacement battery sent out. I contacted them, had several email exchanges, but all i got in response was, fine print and the prescripted account of the battery being a consumable. Its out of warranty (out of luck)

Hello Dyson: in case you haven't noticed your product has two main components: a motor and a battery. Everything else is nothing out of the ordinary. For you to then go and say 50% of your product is a consumable. when its only just out of the warranty period.

What troubles me is that there are so many people reporting the same problem right after the warranty expired.

It sounds like Dyson has really timed this consumable well and I'd love to see a class action against the company for what may even be intentional designed in 'feature' of the product. Li-on shoud certainly outlast NiMH and NiCad batteries and two years is very poor.

How this is acceptable to people out there i don't know.

What i do know is that my next cordless won't be a Dyson and i hope that people consider the overall lifetime costs and long term reviews before deciding on a purchase.

Getting on a bit - battery time is low – Love this , it was our first Dyson and we really took to it. It is brilliant for spot cleaning and there is literally no better device for stairs, Emptying is easy and the build quality is great! HOWEVER that battery is just not holding much of a charge anymore and I try to rush before the disappointing slow down and stop. Battery life lets it down – We replaced our old dyson corded vac with the DC45, but kept the old vac around. The DC45 is a great future looking product, but unless you have a small place and vacuum frequently, or have mostly hardwood/tiled floors, the battery life is not long enough. We still find ourselves dragging the old vacuum out when the battery of the stick vac dies after only a room or two on carpet.  Show details

Still Going Well – We got this over three years ago and it still works well although I think the run time may be a bit less now.
