This is my second Echo the first being a GT 22GES and lasting 17 years with RED string was perfect. The new one GT 222ES and the first use I have found to have useless blue twisted string and forever bumping more string I am now looking to replace the head with some thing 100% better with RED string. Show details

Echo clutch wasn’t up to the task – Great little motor. Cannot fault the engine. However, the clutch system has proved that it is not a good design at all. The clutch system uses plastic components that have melted!! The trimmer is only used on a typical domestic block of land. It is not used commercially. The trimmer started making strange noises. When I investigated I found the… Read more

clutch/drum assembly had melted the plastic housing. Very poor design! Unfortunately it is not worth repairing. So I’m going back to Stihl products!! You’ve lost me Echo.

BUMP FEED DOESN'T WORK – Great machine in every way, but for the bump feed. Hasn't worked since I bought it. ( 02-03-2021 ) I have tried different size lines but nothing works. I have read and re-read the instructions on how to load the line, but again, nothing works. I'm very disappointed. Show details

Worth the extra money – I was needing a new whipper snipper (owned a Ryobi Grass Scorpion which lasted many years) and was leaning towards a cheaper one but decided to spend a bit more after seeing so many bad reviews in the cheaper categories. After much research, I chose this Echo model based on the reasonable price and great reviews on the internet. After it's first… Read more

use, I can only say how impressed I am with the product. It started easily and tackled thick wavy foot long grass like a boss. The bent shaft design and balance made it easy to use especially if you are slightly shorter like me. It didn't stop once during its nearly 1hr 1st heavy duty use. The only negative comment I have is that it comes with a very small amount of line installed and after a few 'bump feeds' there was no line left so when u buy it, buy an extra line pack cause this thing will just keep going based on what I experienced so far.

Carrying on the GT-22ES tradition – I’ve had multiple two and four stroke whipper snippers and none compare to this. This easily starts the best, has the most power and the best throttle control of any I have used. The level of throttle control cannot be overstated- it is fantastic. The bent shaft does not have that rubber band effect the others do. Light throttle only just above… Read more

idle is more than sufficient for most jobs. Light and easily handled. A design note would be that the carburettor is not protected from impact by a cover or shroud should it be accidentally dropped or have something fall on it.

Excellent whipper snipper perfect for domestic use – This review is about the ECHO GT-222ES, which is the bent shaft model. I have had a few whipper snippers over the past 40 years. One cheap one and a couple of expensive ones. This is easily the best. It fits all the criteria important to me. Small, light, easy to start, excellent bump feed, easy to re spool and not too noisy. It has without… Read more

question the best bump feed and re spooling design of any whipper snipper I have seen. If I had one complaint and it is very minor, is that the fuel filler spout is angled and it's not the easiest to re fuel. This is easily rectified by propping the machine on a stump, or similar, so the fuel filler spout sits vertically.

I looked at more expensive machines from Makita, Stihl and Honda and ended up going with this one because of the light weight and all the +ve reviews on this website. You always need to sort the wheat from the chaff when looking at online reviews, but every review on this product was 5 stars and I figured "some of them must be right". Really glad I chose this machine and very happy with my purchase regardless of price.
