Beefy bass = plenty of bang for your buck – I would give this subwoofer a higher rating if (IF) it had a more sensitive volume control. Playing music relatively quietly requires getting the right level of bass - and that is sometimes important to me. Those who like a strong bass line regardless will be happy with what I'll call raw beef. In addition, I like subtly. Good bass exhibits 'decay' - the run-off of frequencies around each separate note. The T5 falls a little short on this criterion, say compared to a comparable Polk subwoofer. But the Polk is twice the price. At a bargain price of $200 the T5 Edifier from Centercom, certainly does a reasonable job of beefing up a basic sound system. If that's your goal, go grab one. If however you want to enhance your stereophonic listening pleasure, it could be worth it to buy something at twice the price. POST SCRIPT - I added an additional volume control to this unit and got much better control over bass volume and thus a far better balance with the main speakers.
