Tried to cancel literally after one hour. Locked in for 24.months. they haven't replied to any of.my emails Ive cancelled my card. If they send me debt letters will any thing really come of it? What actually happens if you ignore. Australian consumer rights surely have rights

Nicole T.

That was me like 4 months ago. They tried calling me a few times, now only sending me generic emails. I owe them $200 apparently. So I've been ignoring it coz what they did was so wrong and illegal. I still get the odd email once a month. But been 4months now and nothing. I genuinely believe it's a huge scam they run in India. So don't bother responding to any of their calls Or emails

I subscribed for 12m in Feb, used only 1 month then never used it any more till now (April). I blocked my card so the auto renewal didn't go through them. I tried to go on the app to delete the account but couldn't because they blocked my account. Now they sent me the email to ask me to pay full the rest 11month subscription $429 otherwise they will transfer the claim to the debt collection agency. What should I do ?

Did you get any response? I fell into the trap, only last week. The response was all jargon about doing a search etc. They didn't give me the 50% off and they are refusing to refund over $500

I had same situation of yours. they offered me 50% off price /per month, it exactly showed on site page. but after you clicked and clicked, inputed your bank detail, chose paid one time. no payment amount showed on site page. I felt dodge and checked my bank , found they over charged me . only50 %off for first month , rest 11 months are full price /permonth. I ask refund and unsubscribes at the same day. they refused. I emailed them ask my money back ,but always received refused and link terms and conditions. since they are scammers , I treat them as scammers, never click that link. because once you clicked that link, your device probably catches virus. yes, I want to know how can we get our loss back? I think they are illegal even under terms and conditions, but just no one bother to challenge that jerk.

You will never be able to cancel subscription and get the refund! Don’t subscribe! Here is an example! Other dating webs has free trials, 3 month subscriptions and if you cancel they will refund you. This is a horrible mistake i made by accident, i thought i did 6 month subscription. It was 1 year. I through $412 in the air. This is what they emailed me when i tried to cancel: Dear Katie, Thank you for contacting eharmony Customer Care. We are sorry to hear that you are wishing to leave the eharmony community and I will surely assist you. Upon reviewing your account, I see that you purchased a 12-month membership on 08/01/2024 (MM/DD/YYYY) to be billed in 4 payments. The total price was $412.85 each of $103.21 + a Sales Tax amount of $9.16 which included a discount of 50% for the first month. You have completed only 1 payment out of 4. You still have 3 remaining payment which is scheduled to be charged on the 1st of every month as from 09/01/2024 (MM/DD/YYYY) until 11/01/2024 (MM/DD/YYYY). Unfortunately, we are unable to honor your request for a refund and release of future payments, as your request is outside of our cancellation policy as stated in our Terms and Conditions. You can review our complete cancellation policy in our Terms & Conditions here: external link . Although you're not eligible for a refund, we can offer to put your subscription on hold for up to six (6) months and you can return at a later time. Please note, by choosing to place your membership on hold, if there is an outstanding balance owed, you will continue to be charged for any scheduled payments until the remaining balance is paid in full. Unused time while away from the service will be added back to your account, once you notify us that you are ready to return. Please let us Know.

I will try asking a question and hoping for help from eharmony before I write a permanent review. I became a paid member a few days ago (email address [Removed]). I've now been locked out of my account. I've done nothing wrong. Why am I locked out and how can I get my account unlocked?

Crazy enough, I noticed my initial payment from 2 days ago is back in my PayPal account.... but even stranger, no history showing eharmony even took the pymt; yet I have the screenshot of the congratulations screen welcoming me as a new paid member and all features having been unlocked for those 2 days....until today when my account was locked and blocked. I truly did use all eharmony features for that time frame and no profile pics were blurred out. It's just really strange.

A total scam, please understand they will continue to take money from your credit card without your authorisation, you won't be able to cancel your membership at all, cancel your credit card immediately if you don't want to be scammed. Then get ready for the debit collection threats, ignore them and block their emails, it's a fake service with no real people. Be warned! Read the reviews!

Ignore them it's all just threats, whatever you do, do not pay them anything more! This is why they continue to threaten scared or vulnerable victoms, it's all just threats, if they realise you are on to them they will go away after a few tries. Leave as many bad reviews as you can on all the review sites to help make this known and block their emails! They have no rights in Australia and what they are doing is totally against consumer rights and fair trade in Australia and most other countries. Don't worry they are just scammers, if they took everyone to court after unsuccessful debit collection they would have tens of thousands of cases going and they would give grounds for further investigation into the shady dealings. Don't be intimidated by this rubbish. Many have posted nothing happens when they ignore them, they don't even have a contact number for their debit collection agency or have your full address or personal details, if you note carefully you can't initiate legal proceedings or summons someone without these details. Do not provide any information and block and ignore. Hope this helps many people reading this and you find it in time before you get scammed further!

Hi Nicole, I’m really sorry that you’ve been stung by these money hungry leeches. I canceled after 2 days as I realised that the dating site wasn’t for me. I canceled thinking that I did so within the 3 day cooling off period but with regards to businesses like eHarmony the devil is in the detail of their terms & conditions which of course I didn’t read. Now I’m stuck with 6 months of payments for a service I won’t be using nor do I need. I was thinking about canceling my credit card but I just don’t need the grief of having a collection agency chasing me for the money. This is the first time I’ve used a dating site & the experience has cured me from using another one ever again. eHarmony believe that they haven’t done anything wrong nor do they have a sympathetic fibre in the whole company. You could get free legal advice about what you can do but if you have committed yourself to a 6 month contract I believe you don’t have a leg to stand on. I’m really sorry I couldn’t help you, I’ve put it down to a bad experience. Take care, Michael

Hi Nicole, I have had debt collection agencies after me also for small amounts when I was not on the wrong. I have not been on E-harmony. What I do is explain to the debt collector what happened and send them all the negative reviews. If they do not waive your case just tell them they will not be getting a cent from you and they will not bother chasing you for $200. I believe E-Harmony and the debt collector are in this together to make profit. It is obviously a partnership scam. Good luck

Danni M.
Danni M.

Hi Nicole, from WA Perth, I'm also in the same position but owe over $500 which is absolutely insane. I have received two messages from the debt collectors and felt a little scared about it. I have researched a little about the collection agency they use and they also have a horrid reputation and called scammers often on their reviews. I am really considering appealing as more than enough people have an issue with the company. I also researched and saw that Eharmony wouldn't risk going to court as they know they are in the wrong, this is a statement from a previous customer. I spoke with a friend that gave me some legal advice and said they are very in the wrong making terms and conditions unclear among other things.

Nicole T.
Nicole T.

That's good to hear. I think we should just ignore them completely. If they can't do anything. As long as my credit name doesn't get damaged then I'm happy. I haven't heard anything from them since sending them an email stating what they did was wrong and illegal here in Australia, that was weeks ago.

Ruth W.
Ruth W.

That's good to know, and yes they are definitely in the wrong. I canceled my subscription and deleted my account over a year ago, and just a few days ago, I started getting matches recommendations again, I was like..??? When I clicked unsubscribe in their email, it took me to a login details, I was like "HELL NO, I'm SO NOT COMING BACK!" Then I tried to look their customer service contact (by phone and email) .... and guess what?? They're NONE to be found! Only FAQs lists. I'm just very worried if my profile is somehow still on their card stacks and being shown to people, that is just appalling! As I am now in a relationship with someone that I met through bumble a few months ago. Not intending on giving ads or saying that bumble is better, it's just us as women can have more control in communication and no random people or anybody can send message to us, unless we're interested in that person too (swipe right on him/her).

Roly S.
Roly S.

i accepted an offer to try the service for $49, seemed reasonable, but buried in the terms and conditions was the hidden authorisation for a further $299. They took this from my bank even though I paid through Paypal.

I lodged a buyer protection claim to Paypal who were worse than useless and incompetent, but strangely appears to be facilitating this type of fraud.

As you can see in other comments, eharmony is relentless in pursuing what they see as a debt if you refuse to pay it. These are mafia style tactics.

Where are the Australian government agencies and why are they all so silent on this?

Nicole T.
Nicole T.

Same thing happened to me. eHarmony profiles had NO photos, and the photos I tried to put in my own profile were rejected. So the service was odd and unusable. eHarmony was always polite and Never Listened while they offered a terrible service. Now they are coming after me in debt collection....this appears to be how eHarmony makes their MONEY. In debt collection. What crap. I think I'll be writing to the Better Business Bureau. (I have a great credit score - this is crap)

Jeannette L.
Jeannette L.

Careful you don't get charged a 12 month membership as even though people selected not to be renewed, their membership got renewed for 12 months and charged for 12 months. I cancelled my credit card and didn't renew it as I read that others got charged on their new card even though they selected not to be renewed. I requested cancellation 2 months early. eHarmony wouldn't cancel my membership until I told them I cancelled my Visa card and wasn't renewing it. They then cancelled my membership straight away and I got them to confirm that my membership was cancelled in writing so I had evidence of this.

Hey so I signed up for E-harmony, like a 1 year deal thing but had the lowest monthly payments so I figured it would be best to sign up and see if it goes well and then cancel if it didn't. Other dating apps allow you to do that but apparently not for E fucking harmony.

So I cancelled my automatic subscriptions on Paypal thankfully but I don't know if I will face any legal troubles. I also live in WA, so I don't know whats going to happen in the future. I really do not want to give these dickheads any more of my money, already paid an extra month subscription of $15.95.

John

My Email that finally forced them to cancel my subscription. Hi Eharmony As per your own terms and conditions you can not supersede the laws and Consumer Protection Rights in my country. Directly from ACCC Australia consumer rights and conditions Businesses can’t take away consumers’ rights

The basic rights covered by consumer guarantees can’t be taken away by anything a business says or does.

For example, a business can’t take away these basic rights by:

displaying a ‘no refunds’ sign, or otherwise saying that refunds are not available at all, or not available at all after a certain number of days saying they aren’t responsible for problems with a product or service suggesting the consumer must sign an extended warranty to avoid losing these basic rights after a certain date. It is against the law for businesses to mislead consumers about their rights in these ways.

Eharmony by refusing to acknowledge the problem and misleading consumers by refusing to cancel a prescription under any means is in direct violation of my consumer rights in Australia.

You’re refusing to even acknowledge that your business is guilty of false advertising and poor security and telling me I need to be cautious who I choose to talk to and meet.

I’m not meeting people because your site is full of scammers and fraudulent profiles. Failure to remove these profiles when flagged and falsely stating I have no ability to cease my contract is literally against consumer Law in Australia…

I sighed up on the basis the site promoted itself as No1 trusted dating app * “It’s full of FRAUDULENT PROFILES ” False and misleading claims VOIDING my Contact!!!

I signed up on the basis my private information was secure “It’s NOT” VOIDING my Contact!!!!

I signed up to meet real people…. The only people I have been approached by on this site are SCAMMERS AND FRAUDULENT PROFILES… VOIDING my Contact!!!!

My bank account now has your transaction set to be rejected and set to fraud

You are in every way stating in your email statement and contract “No refunds or cancellation under any circumstances this ” DIRECTLY VIOLATES AUSTRALIAN LAW…..

displaying a ‘no refunds’ sign, or otherwise saying that refunds are not available at all, or not available at all after a certain number of days

Has anyone submitted their story to A Current Affair? It's princely a whole lot more effective than trying to tackle eHarmony alone. ACA love stories like this, abd they like to help as it makes the viewers feel good that they are assisting. At the very least it will help others not fall into the subscription trap. The whole 'someone finds love every 14 minutes' I believe is based on how often someone subscribes (around the world?). Even if that's not the case, might as well get your money's worth with the remainder of your subscription, right?

I also think that if you don't pay a month you can't legally get slugged the full amount through a debt collection agency, simply because you haven't used that service yet. It's very different to a power bill, car payments etc.

For people using the app, have you reported it to the respective store? In Google Play Store, once you're in the app page you can click the stores at the top right and select 'flag as inappropriate' then select fit example, other, and write about their scum practices.

Unfortunately, we have what I call "commercial censorship " with the commercial TV stations desperate to find advertisers they will not allow morals to impact on making a dollar One of the main revenue sources for free-to-air TV is the gambling industry and little is seen of the terrible impact on families of the gambling addiction. Talkback radio or the ABC a the best medium to expose these mostly based in the U.S dating sites

Its been so long ago that i even tried that app and never got to meet anyone from that dating site so I tried several times last year to cancel it but my profile wouldn't allow it like they say. I had it off my subscription list so I didnt understand why now they are harrassing me through a collection agency who is telling me I need proof I cancelled last year. I have no proof of taking it off my subscriptions. I don't have the same bank card so they didnt get my money from my account. I change my bank card two years ago and then again last year. I dont understand how they can lie and say I was on my profile up until January 2023 when I haven't even looked at that site since over a year ago at least and I had taken all my photos and information off it over a year ago when I cancelled. Or tried to cancel I guess since they are claiming I didn't cancel. I am not paying anything to anyone and for all I know the collection agency is a scam just trying to get my bank information claiming I need to pay. Why would anyone want that dating site when you never talk to any real people.

Has anyone in Australia actually been taken to court over money owed to eHarmony? There are lots of people in this section saying they have received emails from debt collection agencies but no mention of receiving a court summons, being successfully sued and having to pay the money, etc.

Captain O.
Captain O.

The reason I ask is the auto-renewal trap eHarmony builds into their terms and conditions almost certainly breaches Unfair Contract Terms (UCT) laws in Australia. I suspect they do not want to test this in court as a ruling against them will set a legal precedent which can then be used as a defence by anyone who falls into the auto-renewal trap and could result in a class action by people who have previously lost money through this deceptive practice.

It could also prompt the ACCC to take eHarmony to federal court. Eg. ACCC v Fujifilm Business Innovation Australia Pty Ltd [2022] FCA 928; ACCC v Servcorp Ltd; ACCC v JJ Richards & Sons Pty Ltd.

Please note: the auto-renewal trap is different, legally, to people who signed up to the service, decided it was crap and want to stop paying. I’m not sure you have a good legal argument in this situation. You should talk to a lawyer (and not get legal advice from the Q&A section of Product Reviews).

I agree with Mickey B we all contact Current Affairs Melbourne.or Neil Mitchell 3aw Melbourne loves theses story's nmitchell@3aw.com.au I have noticed tonight on the letters I have received from Debt collector there are no due dates. The emails are not dated. I paid a cheque early in January and end of February it was not cleared I have cancd it. When I phoned them they were not concerned about the $292 they were concerned about $15 I owe them that I had no clue the guy on the phone didn't and I have never been invoiced for

You dont need to take eharmony to court. You can take them to a tribunal to test the unfair contract term. There should be a small claims tribunal in your state. I was able to successfully resolve my matter by telling them i was prepared to go to vcat without further notice if the matter was not resolved in 14 days. I’d 100% do it. But given they resolved my complaint by removing the autorenewal charge owed i have no case.

This was my review but i cant see it. So you might need to click my username to see it. https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/c772c1be-879d-55b0-b735-489ea2c759e1

I had a feeling I'd already done ACCC, Susan & yes, I have. Here's their response: Thank you for writing to us about your subscription with eHarmony. We appreciate you reporting your matter to us. When we take action, it's to remedy market problems that cause widespread consumer or business detriment. The information you have provided is helpful to that work. The ACCC isn't a complaint handling body so we can't resolve disputes, but we can provide you with information about your rights. Your next steps If you’re unable to resolve your dispute by speaking with eHarmony, write them a complaint letter. That way they’re clearly aware of the problem, what you want, and you have a record of your contact. We have a complaint letter tool on our website to help you get started. If writing to the business doesn’t resolve your dispute, we would suggest you contact Queensland Office of Fair Trading. Unlike the ACCC, which focuses on broad and national issues, your local consumer protection agency may be able to help resolve your dispute by negotiating an outcome. Find out more about how to make a complaint to Queensland Office of Fair Trading on its website. If they’re unable to help, you may need to take your complaint to your state or territory small claims tribunal. Your rights: accurate information The Australian Consumer Law provides consumers with the right to truthful and accurate representations when buying a product or service. This means that businesses must not mislead you with statements that are incorrect or likely to give you the wrong impression. This rule applies to information that a business provides you in any medium, including when talking to a sales representative, on packaging, in online shopping forums or social media. If a business misleads you, and you experience loss, you might be entitled to a remedy. You can read more about false or misleading claims on our website. Our advertising and selling guide is also a handy resource for businesses to ensure their advertising complies with the law. The worst part about all this is the heavies that the debt collection agency is now putting on me & their latest email is underneath. I considered paying the discounted amount, just to get rid of them but I don't trust the debt collection company because if I give them a inch, then I feel they'll go the whole mile. It also goes against my grain because of my own particular circumstances where I was a customer for 2 days before cancelling because I was asked by one member whether I was real and the calibre of men on the site were horrendous. I'm in my 60's. In my eyes, "full and final settlement" means just that! But then, they go on and say underneath that I then have to acknowledge the whole amount of the debt. Their terms of so-called settlement stink and I'm at a loss to know where to turn to next as I've done Office of Fair Trading and ACCC! Collection House International BPO Inc. ("Collection House") acts for EHARMONY INC. as its duly authorised collection agent. Let’s celebrate the month of love with this exciting offer. EHARMONY INC. is providing an opportunity to finalise your account for less than your current balance of $329.00. Without prejudice to the rights of EHARMONY INC. under its Agreement with you, if you pay $131.6 by 27JAN2023 we will accept this as full and final settlement of your account, subject to and conditional upon the following terms: Your offer to repay the outstanding balance of the account by the reduced settlement amount constitutes your acknowledgement of indebtedness to EHARMONY INC. for the full amount of the Debt; Payment of the reduced settlement amount must be received by us or the EHARMONY INC. as cleared funds, no later than the close of business on the agreed date; The ability to allow you to repay your outstanding balance to EHARMONY INC. by the reduced settlement amount, in the manner and at the time agreed to set out in this letter, instead of paying the full outstanding balance of the Debt immediately, is given without prejudice to EHARMONY INC. rights to recover the full outstanding balance of the Debt owed by you if you are unable, for any reason, to pay the reduced settlement amount, as set out in this letter; and This indulgence to allow you to repay your indebtedness to EHARMONY INC. by the reduced settlement amount instead of the full outstanding balance of the Debt immediately, in the manner and at the time agreed to, is given without prejudice to EHARMONY INC. rights to recover the whole balance of the Debt owing by you under your Agreement with EHARMONY INC. if you fail, neglect or refuse to pay the reduced settlement amount, as specified; and It is expressly acknowledged and agreed that these arrangements are not and do not compromise EHARMONY INC. rights against you in any way whatsoever. If payment is received in cleared funds by the close of business of the agreed date, it will be accepted in full and final satisfaction of your indebtedness in respect to your account. If payment is not received in accordance with the agreement, you remain indebted to us for the full outstanding balance of the Debt, which is now due and payable.

Any assistance or suggestions as to how anyone has resolved this issue, especially when one person I've been communicating with had the whole of her outstanding debt waived by NSW OFT, would be appreciated. Many thanks, in anticipation. Cheers, Lulu

Exactly the ACCC is useless and don’t want to know about this evil scum company! I have never come across a product in my life that makes you pay for it when you haven’t even used it! I signed up to a 6 month contract and hated it within 10 minutes. It’s a plain and simple SCAM. They’ve told me I owe them $195 after already paying $38.90 for using it for 2 days….I’m waiting for the debt collectors letter/email so I can tell them what I think of them too but if it’s going to threaten my credit rating, I’ll have to pay it but getting back to the ACCC, they don’t give a shit and neither does Vic Fair Trading. eHarmony are getting away with scamming millions of dollars from Australians!

My daughter ( in Australia ) signed up for 6 months. Thankfully she used paypal and stopped any future payments or requests being taken. The 6 months has finished but with no notice they blocked her from her account unless she pays, so she can not remove it ( photos and details etc ). Its not great to have these still sitting there, is there anything she can do or are you all in the same boat ?

I found E harmony to be ridiculous....there are others like zoosk...that won't tie you in. If you still payments E harmony will probably back up and give up.

Captain O.

You can request eHarmony purge all your daughter's personal information from their systems. The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives consumers the “Right to delete” – ie. you can request that businesses delete personal information they collected from you and tell their service providers to do the same, unless the business is legally required to keep the information (eHarmony would not have a legal requirement to keep your data).

Hi guys, I just had the same experience, my account was blocked, I didnt use it anymore, but they still didnt delete my account "We are sorry to hear that you are wishing to cancel your subscription and I will do my best to assist you. Regarding your account, we have already engaged a debt collection agency to pursue this issue further after you failed to respond to the two email reminders sent to you or pay the claim in full."

what should I do? Ignore it? what about my blocked's account?

Eharmony has just recently changed their sign up page to get rid of the references to 3months. Would anyone have a screenshot of the old sign up page? I'd like to take it to NSW fair trading.

Anyone experience any further escalation after ignoring the debt collection emails? I can't recall if I gave them my address - does anyone know whether / when they collect your residential address?

Anyone successfully get your money back / stop them trying to charge you? If so, how did you do it, will you be willing to share the details?

I paid what the credit agency requested & now EHarmony is requesting more money that I’ve previously paid.they have also blocked me betI complained about the poor service and requested automatic renewal be ceased. I have bank proof of payment so they have no case but I have for dept Fair Trading as they have not provided the service to April 23 instead blocked me unless I pay another random figure of $80. Untrustworthy at best !

The only way to change anything on your account successfully is to contact their support team! Here is the link external link  Make sure to write in simple sentences and make sure you forward the first welcome email when you sign up. I’d say forward them the welcome email all together so they can locate your account and connect the charge to yours. They will not let you cancel a subscription!

What do you suggest doing now?

I just had my bill waved by eHarmony after getting NSW FAIR TRADING involved!! Only took one email to them! I signed up to the lite program which looked like it was three months by the way they marketed it but it was surprisingly 12 months. When I cancelled, they sent me the $392 bill for the rest of the year. I claimed false advertising but they persisted and got debt agency to email me. But, now it’s waved! Very easy if in NSW. I’ve read similar issues for others with the lite membership here but also hand washing in other states’ fair trading departments.

Nancy K

I tried Fair Trading and they told me only certain contracts were covered so couldn't help me, I also didn't sign up for the lite but I think the other options were just as deceiving.

I contacted ACCC. They gave me a bunch of info and suggested contacting NSW Fair Trading so that will be my next step. Thanks for this!

Captain O.
Captain O.

I contacted the ACCC and they sent me a generic email telling me to contact Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV). I then contacted CAV and they said it wasn’t within their remit to get involved in consumer affairs issues and I would have to take eHarmony to VCAT (Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal). I pointed out it was within their remit and it even said so on their website, under Who we are and what we do (“we… conciliate disputes between consumers and trader;… enforce and ensure compliance with consumer laws”).

I told them I believe eHarmony is in breach on Australia Consumer Law, specifically the Unfair Contract Terms (UCT Regime) with how they have implemented their auto renewal T&Cs. I referred to case law where the ACCC had taken companies to court over unfair auto renewal clauses (ACCC v Fujifilm Business Innovation Australia Pty Ltd [2022] FCA 928; ACCC v Servcorp Ltd; ACCC v JJ Richards & Sons Pty Ltd) and listed the elements in eHarmony’s auto renewal clauses that the Federal court found were unfair in these other cases.

But that wasn’t enough. “We can’t make the determination if the contract is unfair”, the guy on the phone said. I said, “Actually yes you can, in fact that’s the whole point of CAV. Someone with a legal background needs to look at the points I’ve raised to see if eHarmony is likely in breach of the UCT Regime.” I said CAV then needs to write to eHarmony telling them their auto renewal T&Cs are dodgy AF and they should cease and desist before they are found in breach of the new Treasury Laws Amendment (More Competition, Better Prices) Act 2022 which states:

Any unfair contract terms in standard form contracts will be deemed unlawful, and any businesses using or relying on unfair contract terms will be subject to financial penalties as follows: • The maximum penalty will be the greater of: o $50 million; and o Three times the amount of the benefit derived from the contravention. However, if the value of the benefit cannot be determined then the relevant amount will be 30% of the turnover of the corporation and its related bodies corporate for the period when the corporation was in breach (with a minimum period of 12 months).

He then gave me some bad advice saying, “Just read the T&Cs in the contract… it’s black and white”. I said “No, it’s not black and white. Just because a company puts something in a contract doesn’t mean it’s legally binding, if, for example, it breaches Australia Consumer Law”. He then back-tracked and said, yes it wasn’t black and white.

Seriously, I don’t know why that government department even exists. Completely useless.

Taking eHarmony to VCAT will cost $67.40. Decisions and orders made by VCAT are legally binding and enforceable, as per the court system. I’ll wait until (or if) the debt collectors send me a final demand letter before lodging a complaint in VCAT. This will hamstring any legal proceedings against me as the court won’t hear the debt collection case if the matter is already before another court or tribunal.

Chewfay
Chewfay

@captain O. how did you go with it?

Captain O.
Captain O.

@Chewfay, I actually rang the debt collectors and told them I will be taking the matter to VCAT to seek a ruling regarding whether eHarmony's auto-renewal clause breaches UCT. The debt collector said he would update my file and inform eHarmony. I haven't heard from them since.

I didn't lodge a complaint with VCAT as the debt collection emails stopped and I found out shortly afterwards the ACCC will be taking eHarmony to court
