Electrolux EDE605A

Disappointed – We've had the EDE605 dryer for a few years. We did not use it much. Although, we really looked after it (Vents always cleaned, machine looked after). Out of the blue, we have recently had a burning smell and the dryer completely stopped. The buttons turn on, but dryer does not rotate. Afraid to buy an Electrolux again because of this burning smell. This seems to be a common complaint with this machine. I don't want a fire in our house.
Reliable Workhorse – I've had this machine for about 6 years now and it is still going strong. Never had to call for service on it. I find it pretty quiet for a relatively cheap dryer, certainly much quieter than my mother's Fisher & Paykel, and while the door lock has to be pressed hard, that doesn't bother me. I don't have to whack it, but it is a very firm press… Read more
with the heel of my hand. The sensor dry function works well and it is rare that a load isn't fully dry when it is done. Lint filter easy to clean etc. I use it daily in winter and a 3-4 times a month over summer. I'd very likely buy this model again if I didn't want to spend the money for a condenser style machine.
Edit: It's been nearly 2 years since I wrote this review, so the machine is now knocking 8 years. In the last 18 months I had an electrical part burn out (burning smell and drum not turning), apparently it is a common thing to happen across all dryers, not indicative of a fault, just age and wear. It was a $15 part and 20 min of labour to fix, all up about $40. A clip on the door also broke so it rattled when running, but I bought a used replacement for $30 online and installed it myself. I think the bearings need replacing now as it is rumbling and loud when it runs, but I'm sure doing that will still be infinitely more cost effective than a new machine. Vented dryers are pretty simple beasts and should keep running for a long time, even if they need a few cheap repairs along the way. I'm still very pleased with this machine.
Happy with the ede605a – Dryer has been excellent and tough. we bought it around 4 years ago and it's been in four different houses(we're all familiar with the unintentional battering white goods get when moving)including being stored in a dusty shed for around 2 months with tools and other shed stuff stored on top of it.Anyway we have now finally settled and the dryer… Read more
still works perfectly. Very well engineered as far as i'm concerned.
forgot to mention that with a clean it's come up looking like new albeit with a couple of moving scratches here and there. Rock Solid Dryer
So much potential, YET – The dryer has worked flawlessly until recently.... First the ON/OFF button failed (have to keep the dryer on using a TOOTHPICK to jam the button in) Recently the bearings seem to have gone as the dryer is now making an AWFUL screeching noise when its on. This is enough to drive you crazy if you attempt to watch TV. Lucky for me the dryer is… Read more
just out of its warranty..... Competitive price, Good capacity, Quick drying time ON//OFF button has failed (has to be held in with toothpick), Bearings have gone (makes awful screeching sound), Door mechanism has always been extremely difficult to close.

Not bad but not great – we have had this dryer for about 4 years & it has just died. It has done a good job & was used 2-3 times a week. It was however extremely dificult to close & you really had to bang it hard to close & i believe this is the main reason it now does not work as the constant banging has broken something. Did a good job too hard to close
Bad – We have had ours for 3 months and the element has blown. Does not like to be overloaded. The air vent is at the front so its easy to sdjust the direction it blows. Its quiet, auto sensor worked well. Lint filter not a good design
Good but noisy – The dryer works really well but it bothers me so much whenever to close the door. you literally have to slam the hell out of the lock/start button to lock in place.. causing quite obviously a extremely loud banging sound but other than that.. it works really well and i love it how it notifies you when you have to clean the filter :) Pretty much… Read more · 1
everything, except the noisy lock/start button!! You have to use all your force to lock/start the dryer buy slamming the button causing a very loud noise.
