Best experience – I attended one of Encounter's speed dating events at the Oaks and had a great evening. There were some interesting conversations and although initially nervous I ended having a great time. Luckily I made a match and we are still dating. good value for money with a welcome drink and nibbles along the way. I will totally recommend it if you are over the online dating scene and keen to meet people in real life.

Great speed dating evening – I had a few nerves turning up to this event but it was very enjoyable and easy and it was a welcome change to online dating. Highly recommend you give it a go. It really helps you work out quickly what you’re after and how you tell your story. Do it! Show reply

I do not trust these people – When I paid my money for the speed date event they did not disclose at the time of purchase that prior to the event I would be required to provide a photo of myself and further confidential information. If I had known this I would not have paid my money to attend this event. As a result of this non disclosure I do not trust them.

Over priced, little effort by organizers. Over 40's Single Party – Advertised as: Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, shared food platters and icebreakers designed for you to meet many of the singles at the party in a fun, friendly and flirty way. Shared food consisted of toast (that is correct!) a small pile of fried zucchini, what looked like semi dried tomatoes or cooked capsicum, a few cubes of cheese, and about 6 slices of salami. There was about 3 plates of these, no toothpicks, cocktail forks or presented on anything you could pick up on, only pick up messily with fingers and not very hygienic. Later a few pizzas were brought out, but more garlic slices than pizzas with normal toppings.

Ice breakers consisted of being given a playing card on entry and you had to find your opposite color. If you found your match you then got a 1 in 4 chance to win free drinks by picking a card out 4. If not successful you got a single chocolate ball. People were not too impressed.

There was no other ice breakers, organizers did not leave their table at entry. There was no music.

Although advertised as 7 -11pm in private rooms, pub patrons were allowed in after about 10pm.

Some people left after 30-60 minutes, dwindling from 9.30 to 10.00pm, and pub patrons being allowed in finished things off. Venue rooms were ok prior to this.

Mix of people was ok, being 40 -60 age which was a nice change to many other events such as Meetup which attracts the younger or older (over 60's) but seems to deter the 35- 50/60 age range - and for the same reasons.

There is a chance create a profile (name, picture, age) and allow others to to indicate after the event if they would like to see you again if you both express an interest in each other, however you only get one option (click on a heart) but no option for anything less full on such as - enjoyed chatting, interested in a drink or meal sometime? - which eliminates many who would be interested in the less full on option.

But $45 is a rip off for what was offered, in particular as this type of room can often be booked for free if a certain drink sales is reached, and with around 60 people drinking say 3 drinks each this would be a good earner. The barman was kept busy all night.
