Pretty useless, enter NMI and expect a reasonably close comparison, estimated quotes are nowhere near actual bills. I would have thought with everything computerized it should be easy to compare usage and supply charges to come close with a close result.

Have tried using it a few times. Each time the prices listed on the energy made easy (eme) website were significantly different to those of the energy providers. Once when calling one of the providers and asking about this they advised that the eme website gives the best prices but that they may be outdated. Long story short, eme is an absolute waste of time as it does not give you the best pricing options and you are better off not using it

Tried to do the right thing and compare providers, given I'd been with one of the big ones for a while. Went with a smaller provider and ended up paying about twice as much immediately. Have since returned to my original provider. Also noticed that the original provider's best plan wasn't showing up on the Energy Made Easy comparison list.

Followed the directions and Sumo came out as best plan on 1July 2025. Contacted Sumo and they said, oh those rates are a mistake, we need to get that fixed up. Went through process again and they were still marginally cheaper so swapped. Less than a month later they tell us their prices going up, not just a little, but skyrocketing mid August 2025. What a waste of time. Show details

False information throughout this site. Some providers are providing feed in money figures on plans which is patently a lie as you have to have one of the old guesstimeters to get the plan but you have a compulsory smart meter for solar panels. No quality control on providers who have multiple one star reviews on here or providers where the plan… Read more

you choose ends up totally different to what you get. For the government to put its name and reputation on this site is disgusting as the taxpaying public wants truth and reliability on information provided. I did get one reply from EME when I pointed out that it wouldn't take my NMI to find a plan. Nowhere on the site is it mentioned that it only works if there have been no changes on your Smart Meter for 12 months. Any other questions I have asked have been ignored. Like everything else that is supposed to protect the consumer it's a complete failure. Also there is no Minister, state or federal with oversight on electricity providers. Why is that?

Better ask your crystal ball for the best price – On February 3, 2025, alintaenergy will reduce the feed in for solar from 8 cents to 4 cents. Energy Made Easy still offers its plan with an annual contract with 8 cents/kWh solar upload. A call was pointless because they referred to the electricity provider's upload. They don't seem to understand that this encourages fraud against customers. When… Read more

I asked if they could at least remove this misleading advertising, I was told that the matter would be brought to the attention of the responsible supervisor. Until something happens, many customers will be ripped off. At least, it's not the first time that's happened to me.

Operated by the Australian Energy Regulator – An Australian Government service, operated by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). They do not get kick-backs by by referring you on to Energy Companies, so it's accurate and independent. You can compare Electricity and Gas or both combined. Uppload your previous energy consumption (1) manually or (2) by uploading your bills in PDF format, or… Read more

(3) by selecting Using Your meter data which uses your last 12 months useage for electricity bills I check my energy bills at least every six monnths to make sure I am still on the best rates.

waste of time and completely not easy to use – took very long time to find best deal on this website but after going actually to the energy provider website, the plan does not exist and there is a different one : much more expensive and not single rated ( this is my only requirement ! )

Not Easy – This website was never too good and is getting worse. Simple things like the trying to filter for Time of Use billing do not work. You can only find electricity prices for today, so you can't check on fees for even a day in advance, which would be handy at the end of financial year when rates go up. When you check with the retailers the rates… Read more

are wrong anyway. Of course it is in the electricity retailers interest to make it hard for you to compare rates so we can't all move to the cheaper retailers. I emailed the Australian Energy Regulator about the problems and they took weeks to get back with a form letter which ignored the original query. The AER are a like a lot of federal regulators - effective.

Yet another IT fail for the federal government.

Does NOT work - EVER! – More like Energy made difficult! I've tried to use this website at least 15 times over several weeks. It never works, absolutely ever! Each time it comes up with a different error message or doesn't find any search results.

There are plans here that are not available when you contact the provider – There are plans here that are not available when you contact the provider. A bit silly to use a lot of time select a plan, try to sign up, and the real plan rates are much worse. Why is this a gov backed site? Lip service I, guess?

Useless – Submitted my meter data using NMI. It brings back a bunch of plans, but when I go to sign up with the retailer those plans are not actually available and the terms offered are much worse than on the Energy Made Easy website.

Website doesn’t work – Can’t find plans for inner city (Sydney) suburb. Can’t list current suppliers, only 2 nonsensical ones. Beta site couldn’t find NMI data, even though the NMI was correctly entered, repeatedly!

Another failed joke of Australian govt supposedly helping consumers – in order to use the service, you have to upload your latest energy bill. But the geniuses who work in Federal Govt haven't figured out how the interwebs work, so you CANNOT upload your billl- the site will just give you repeated error messages that you've done something wrong (spoiler: you haven't). This useless malfunctioning website no doubt… Read more

Energy Made Easy does NOT tell you the cheapest provider at all – I went to the Energy Made Easy website and was shocked when I realised that the plan that they recommended to me as being the cheapest was still dearer than the plan that I am on. They suggested the Origin Go Variable plan which came to approx. $240 per quarter, yet my current bill was for 274.08 but I get a 25% discount if I pay on time, and I… Read more

always do. So the latter bill only cost me $205.56 per quarter. I am with AGL. Note Origin Go Variable said the $240 was with discounts. There was no other discount like the 25% to deduct from it.

Not sure why Easy Made Easy cannot get it right. They should do if the government is sincere in helping people reduce their costs and in turn help them live a reasonable life. Feel so sad for people who cannot afford their electricity especially the older people who actually feel the cold more, due to their age.

Website is easy to use – I'm only reviewing EME's website in terms of ease of use, clarity and sufficiency of information provided. I am yet to confirm how accurate their price comparison is, perhaps if/when I switch energy providers when I would be able to compare current vs new. It would be nice if anyone who have used this service would provide feedback on the… Read more

accuracy of EME's price calculations.

Back to the purpose of my review...

I find the website tool very easy to use. It also provided what I see as a complete set of information that I would need to make my choice of energy provider. If necessary, I could have compared my current provider with a vast number of other providers, but I thought I'll just choose the ones I have some familiarity with, e.g., Energy Australia. I uploaded 1 only bill (the ones prior do not include solar data from my new panels), and it just took seconds to get all billing information and display the comparisons. I also like that you can download the price estimates from each provider compared, which is good so I can take time to analyse all information and make a decision later.

I would have given it a 5-star, if not for the fact that I still have to either hear from someone who changed providers based on EME's data, or myself making the switch and compare actual data.

On the minus side, I was unable to get a report using the 'meter data' option. As I mentioned above, I used uploaded bill in pdf format which it processed very swiftly.

Great idea but – Had a problem with their website so tried to call them but after 40 minutes waiting I never got through to them. It seems a pity that if the government is going to provide such a service they don't support it appropriately.
