A very mixed experience with my dog after he had a full on epileptic fit – I was told by my local Vet to take my dog Hanky my 11 year old Jack Russell X to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Essendon Fields. Hanky had a first known 30 minute seizure unable to get up, on his side kicking his legs and losing control of his head. I took him over in the early evening 25th Nov 2021. [Name Removed] the Vet on night duty was very switched on..fortunately I had recorded part of his fit...which she found useful. I left Hanky overnight and he didn't have another fit during his time there. She rang me back with good blood test results for Hanky. I could take him home the next morning. She suggested no medication for now, but if he had another fit, some anti-convulsives ..maybe an MRI if they continued. She also gave him some arthritis medication. I was happy with that. The next morning I returned to pick him up and spoke to a different Vet understandably on day duty. She did give similar advice but was not switched on about Hanky's condition... a most extraordinary comment was made that shocked me...that " his little twitches are nothing to be worried about".. I immediately corrected her and told he I had shown a video of Hanky having a full on fit, which lasted for 30 minutes. My usual Vet rang me later and I told him what had happened... Did that second Vet have a good night's sleep?..I do not know....but heaven forbid, I took Hanky after he had a grand mal.. The poor dog was exhausted after fitting for 30 minutes...his legs were kicking, he couldn't get up and his head was rolling....all out of control...very distressing for me and my relatives to watch. To have a qualified Vet to say that they were only little twitches was unbelievable! I was first impressed with the service; but unfortunately I became unimpressed with that last experience. My goodness!! Barbara
