Easy to use, love it, never had a problem with it – This was my first washing machine living alone and I love it. It's easy to use. Fast, but still washes the clothes thoroughly. I've never had a problem with it. Will buy the same model again if this ever dies. Even a second hand model, found cheaply on Facebook Marketplace, would do just fine. I drained the water into the bathtub with the supplied hose.
Very Cheap and nasty washing machine - Not like to Good old ones – So unhappy with the VERY INFERIOR quality of this machine Now where do I start? 1. Operationally only 3 wash levels. The mid level is not enough so must always wash in FULL 2. Strange behavior. When you turn on the power the machine powers on too. But not really. You still must push the ON button.Select the cycle then the start button. 3. Mine… Read more
started playing up very quickly. Would not spin. Repeatedly cycled from on, try to spin then off again. This would happen over and over again. Rebalancing the wash helped occasionally but not always. Same with advancing the wash. 4. Eventually one day when I got it to spin it was spinning perfectly then as it was slowing down it went BANG! Power died. Wouldn't turn on again. Conclusion: Inherent problem with the electrics. 5. The washer agitator is cheap, light and very flimsy. The fins on the agitator snap off very easily. Unbelievable! 6. No lint filter supplied with the washer as standard. You need to buy one for about $35. I ended up giving mine away to some poor sole who thought he could fix it. Good luck mate!
Lasts forever – I bought a Fisher & Paykel "Pride" 5.5kg Top Loader in the mid 2000s. Only broke down the other week. I was washing during a storm and because of the storm there was intermittent blackouts. After this, the wash machine did not turn back on; I assume the storm fried the electrical components inside the machine. Decided to replace it with the… Read more
Fisher & Paykel QuickSmart MW513 (5.5kg). Which, as far as I know is the same machine. I mentioned to the salesman that my old one lasted a very long time and I am hoping to get the same lifespan out of the new one. He said they are made with different parts nowadays and to only expect a 10 year lifespan. But, they said that when I bought my original one as well. :)
This time, I'm thinking about adding a surge protector to the machine.
I added a picture of the washing machine below. I don't have the proof of purchase.
LATER EDIT: I discovered that it didn't break due to a power surge but a "low voltage event".

Fisher Paykel MW513 5.5kg top loading washing machine from Appliances Online is a very good buy – This is a very compact unit, perfect for just two people. It is quiet in operation, cleans well, and has many adjustable options. The default setting is for warm wash. I would have preferred a cold wash as default, but I could not figure out how to change the defaults; so I will just do that manually every time. The service from Appliances Online… Read more · 1
is fantastic. The machine arrived quickly; the installation crew were very professional, and they removed the old machine as well. The supplied water hoses are about 15cm too short to work in our laundry, so I used the hoses from the old Samsung and they work fine. Making the hoses so short is false economy. The drain hose has a small hole in it from the manufacturing process and it leaks when the machine pumps out. I am still waiting to hear about a fix for this. The lint filter is self-cleaning so it sends micro-plastics down the drain and into the ocean. I’m not thrilled about this, being used to cleaning filters myself. All in all I’m very happy with this machine, except for the hoses. Fix that and I would give it five stars.

Meets our needs and keeps working – I downsized to the 5.5kg model for almost a year and have used it heaps. No mechanical problems. It is incredibly quick yet the clothes seem to be cleaned properly. My double-bed sized 2-sheet set with pillow cases fit in it just fine. I'm not sure if I could do the doonas and underblankets though like I could with my previous 7+kg model. In… Read more · 1
terms of the frustrations, every washer I've owned whether front or top loader, Simpson or F&P, is loud, has damaged my clothes etc etc. I have had to change my own technique; it's not just this brand. - To wash 2 sheets, I give each sheet its own side of the tub, don't overlap them to start with. Stretchy material like bonds singlets and undies have to go on Regular wash (not heavy duty wash) with Medium spin (not fastest spin), otherwise mysterious holes will appear. I have to wash items with different fluff and dye content separately so sometimes I end up with a few different piles but I'd rather pay the extra power and water for another load than buy replacement clothes. I also think about the order I wash the piles - for instance, I prefer not to do a dark load straight after a towel load.
Quality build components but can be bruital on clothing – This machine has given me no problems at all mechanically, and looking at others reviews it seems that it is very well built. My biggest gripe is that the agitator is very aggressive and can (and has) ruin delicates. It has sharp edges and changes direction with aggression. There is also no lint filter that is present to be cleaned and so it… Read more
can leave your washing a disaster if not properly sorted out. Lastly, it only washes for 10 mins and then spends the next 20 minutes or so filling and emptying for rinses, meaning that it doesn't wash for long and it uses a LOT of water.
There has to be better machines out there.
PROS
+ Quality & Reliability - Well built, trouble free use and I would recommend the brand name
CONS
- If you want a thorough wash you will always be running back to the machine to repeat the wash before it drains.
- Can leave a mess of lint throughout the load without care
- Can leave your garments ruined without care
Great Washing Machine but Short Life – Actual model number is WA55t56GW1 (but loos exactly the same as MW513 in the shops today) Bought new in January 2010, thats 4 years and 11 months ago. It has been a great washing machine, fast wash cycle time, and clothes come out dry due to the fast 1000rpm spin speed, quiet running means I can do a wash at night time even though the laundry… Read more
room is located next to the bedroom. Love the control panel looks, high tech modern design, the display panel has the flush soft touch buttons and green led indicators. Has been looked after well and still looks like new condition, no rust or paint chips. We wash about 5 loads a week on the fast cycle, so it has only gone through a total of about 1200 cycles, was expecting that it would last 8-10 years. Now faulty, at the end of the wash cycle, pump drains but it does not spin dry and there is the smell of burnt electronics, estimated repair cost to replace the motor control module $240. Original cost was NZ$649 from Magness Benrow, but the same model is currently available on boxing day special for NZ$542 at some stores. The Smartdrive motor itself appears robust, Fisher and Paykel have had 25-30 years experience building this type of washer electronics, but its very disappointing that the electronic controls on this example did not last the distance. Have looked at other brands for a replacement, but none have the appeal of sophisticated technology and clean design, so In spite of this experience, am likely to buy another Fisher and Paykel
Positive reviews
The gold standared for a workhorse washing machine – We have just had to upgrade/downsize after our fisher & paykel quicksmart died. The quicksmart we had was purchased some time around 2005, so it was like 15+ years old had never been serviced or broke down, I can only assume the belt deteriorated and broke away. Anyway for the review, this machine is not super efficient or top of the line in… Read more
terms of functions, it's also a biut loud but you can mitigate that by ballancing it correctly and following the load instructions, however in terms of a solid whitegood that is a good investment and does the job day in day out well beyond the lifetime you'd expect, this is absolutely that.
Pros: Ultra Durable Quick Wash Easy to Use
Cons: Not super efficient
This washing machine is a beauty! – This 5.5kg washing machine has a selection of four basic and adequate wash cycles. It never becomes unbalanced while washing large items; it just quietly gets on with the job. Show details
Like it a lot, but very big! – My house is small and it takes up a lot of space, but that means it does fit a lot, it cleans perfectly and all the settings work great. The time it takes for one load is average but it is still great. Show details

Non stop problems from Day 1! – This washing machine has been nothing but a headache since its installation. Washing machine regularly leaves grease stains on clothes. Repairman have been out 5 times, each time they tell me they can't find any faults and to call next time it is playing up. Customer service is useless. After countless $ worth of ruined clothing and the wasted… Read more
time on hold, dealing with customer support, taking time out of my work day to accomodate the repairman I am ready to throw it out and start fresh.
DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!
Worst white good I have evr owned – I spent a long time researching my purchase of this machine. I have never owned a F&P item before but read the reviews nearly all positive. This machine ruins EVERYTHING!! Holes get pierced in to your clothing by the bottom thin plastic traps of the agitator even on gentle or with a low spin making the items eventually disintegrate. But even… Read more
worse is the lint situation. I had no idea this machine would lead to me throwing away many sheet sets/pillowcases/doona covers & even some of my own tshirts and leggings because the lint cannot be removed. I have not only paid for a washer that is basically 100% useless burt have lost alot having to replace all the my expensive bedding items. Why doesn't it hacve a lint trap?? Thanks for ruining so many of my things F&P.
Worst purchase ever – Bought this machine around 6 months ago after previous f&p washer that was amazing omg sounds like an plane taking off o n spin and not happy with more than 1 towel etc surely this is not right ! Show details

Going....going... after only 21 months – This is my second F&P Quicksmart and after 21 months of once-a-day use there is a strong smell of stale water coming from it which indicates that it is not fully emptying after the wash cycle. The previous one only lasted three years before going with a big bang. I am careful as to what goes into the machine and always use those washing bags for… Read more
small items. Apart from the short life span, the machine is a good reliable work-horse which has not had any other issues. I will be looking at other brands when this one goes.
Initial reaction – Seems to run well at this early stage. Far better vibes with this one than the last one we bought which was a useless - and expensive - 7kg Samsung heap of junk which only lasted 4-1/2 years. Wash cycle is very good - as is the spin cycle. Very quite operation in all modes. Washes clothes most efficiently - which the Samsung was totally useless… Read more · 2

The only down side we've discovered so far is that the HIGH water level is probably a bit too high. When the water level is set at this height, the water sometimes splashes a little over the top of the bowl and only time will tell if this 'splashed' water has any effect on the inner electrical workings.
Like the idea that you can still open the top of the machine to add things or see what's happening - until the spin cycle begins - then the lid locks.
My 3rd one! – Yes - this is my 3rd F & P washing machine and I have to say I just can't go past it. My previous one lasted 11 years but I will add that it only does washing for one which no doubt added to it's longevity. It's very quiet apart from when it's draining water and you hear a not so quiet pulsating noise but does it's thing quickly and efficiently.… Read more
I rarely run it on anything but a normal cycle and find it very kind to my clothes. I luv, luv, luv the 1000 rpm spin cycle which helps aid the drying time on the clothes line tremendously. Not the cheapest on the market given it's only a small machine but in so far as a good quality, efficient & durable machine, it's a winner.
best washing machine – this is my 2nd fisher and paykel washing machine ive owned, there great super quite very had any problems i wash everything from quilts, pillows, jumpers, delicates totally satisfied, have used other brands in the past. Show details
Reliable, low maintenance washer – Faultlessly had 3 yrs of trouble free general household washing. Easy to use features, washing heavy soiled to delicates perfectly. Washing times are as expected to obtain perfect wash & spin cycles. Overall: Very satisfactory & recommended.. Show details
Awesome – Awesome machine! Quick cycles, simple controls, easy to use. Faster and quieter than my old machine, and spins faster so clothes come out drier. Would have preferred to have more than the basic 3 water levels (low, medium and high), but not worth upgrading to a more expensive model for the rare time that "med-high" is preferred. Show details
Loverly quiet machine – Excellent for smaller loads for a single person. Beautifully quiet and efficient. Due to being smaller I cannot wash blankets or bigger loads. Functions in tvs machine give many options such as spin speed which is highly useful for delicate shirts etc Overall a great machine. Show details
Best Washing Machine I have owned in 60 years – Given our first Fisher & Paykel Top Loader, a second hand one, some 20 years ago which worked extremely well until July when it finally gave up the ghost. We replaced with the same model. Best ever - washing comes out clean, almost dry after spin dry cycle, quiet and economical. Well done, Fisher & Paykel. Show details
Works very hard at our place – We give this washer a very hard time with daily use and it takes all we can throw at it. We have had it for over five years and it's still going strong. The touchpad had aged a little bit but that could be because the sun comes into the laundry. Its already given very good value. Definite trooper Show details

Great Washing Machine – Love this washing machine. It is easy to use and is quick and efficient. I like how quiet it is when washing. I have never had any problems with it. It is a lot better than my previous machine (Simpson) which only lasted 3 years. I would recommend to others. Show details
Efficient and gentle on the clothes – This is my second FisherPaykel washing machine. My first one lasted just over 14 years and I was very impressed with all the features and the quality. Researched this new model and ordered it online. I never had any problems with it and it is perfect for a family of 4. It has all the cycles that are necessary and works well for all types of fabrics. It is efficient and gentle on the fabrics. Show details
Love it – I had a Fisher & Pykel for 15 years. Back then it was only the 5kg machine top loader. It was reliable and never has a problem till it died one day. So after hearing rave reviews about the front loaders (LG) I bought one, which was a nightmare. It was very noisy and the machine moved while washing and my back hurt. So after 2 years we went back… Read more
to the Fisher & Pykel Quicksmart 5.5kg top loader. Its quiet, quick, and cost effective on the save water mode and washing mainly in cold water saves on the gas bills. We only do a couple of loads a week. For the price and reliability it has been a really good washing machine.
Very quiet – This is just a quick initial first impression review - I will update later if I have anything to add. The main thing I notice straight away is how QUIET it is - it is definitely the quietest machine I've owned yet. Yes - even the fastest spin cycle is quiet, in my opinion It's also faster than my previous machine (a Simpson "Ezi Set" SWT604). … Read more
The Simpson only lasted 5 years before developing a fault, so I decided to cut my losses, and rather than have it repaired, I've come back to F&P. (I had a F&P before the Simpson, which lasted well)
Great machine easy to use – I purchased this machine only a few days ago but I am rating on my experience with this machine as I borrowed my sisters identical machine for the past few months. This machine is fantastic. It washes very well. Using a good amount of water unlike the front loader machines (I have owned 2 front loaders and didn't like them). This machines is… Read more
really easy to use, washes well and the long cycle is about 1 hour (unlike my front loader which was 5 and half hours) and the short cycle is about half hour.
Its not loud when doing a cycle and beeps when finished.
Its only a 5.5kg but I haven't found this to be a problem. You wouldn't be able to put in large heavy blankets as it will unbalance the machine. I would say this is the only down fall.
I paid $515 at Harvey Norman with free delivery and installation and also free washing detergent.
Great Expectations – Our new Fisher and Paykel MW 513 appears to be almost identical to the previous MW 511 which lasted 14 years with only the outlet pump requiring replacement during that period. The controls are logical and easy to use. The direct drive motor is quiet and the wash cycles are quick and efficient. Fully loaded, it's necessary to ensure the clothing… Read more
is evenly distributed around the drum or things can get very noisy. Really happy with it so far, I will update this review periodically to comment on reliability.
Another great washing machine from Fisher Paykel – Very quiet and does not wear out clothes. Very thorough rinse process. Last one lasted 16 years so we shall be happy our new Fisher Paykel product lasts as long. Purchased from Appliances Online and very happy with their service as it was next day delivery from ordering date. . Show details
Waterhammer – Purchased this to replace 18yr old Hoover. That machine had slow turn-off valves - something one would expect in every washing machine manufactured today and particularly from a 'brand name'. Unfortunately this Fisher & Paykel model appears not to have such valves if the horrendous knocking the machine generates in our house's copper pipes is… Read more
anything to go by. Our old Hoover never did any of this.
We don't need a machine that waterhammers with the resulting damage that can do. First and last Fisher Paykel washer we will buy.
ENDURANCE ON QUALITY AND QUANTITY! – Cleaning & Rinsing 5/5, Water & Time Efficiency 5/5, A quiet machine you can use day or night! Best features Lid Lock, Economy Option and a pleasant beeper indicating lid is open and it needs to be closed to operate (excellent safety) also indicates end of cycle! Options for washing anything from silks to work wear it’s been that great that I have often advised friends to get the same and the ones that did bought me a thank you gift! L❤️VE IT Show details
Can't compalin – Almost 3 years since my purchase and the machine hasn't missed a beat. Although have to be careful as sometimes the axle gets trapped with the cloths and starts making loud noise. So, I simply pause the machine and untangle the cloths for the washing cycle to continue. So, this has been a great workhorse for us so far. Show details
Good machine for two person household – Have owned this machine for 9 months. Great size for a two person household. Cleans clothes well - although there is some lint behind in the machine and on clothes occasionally. Cycle is very quick - like the eco friendly wash option and the ability to do a cold water wash. Show details
average washing machine – I find the washing machine very loud and it will go off balance very quickly if the washing is not put in machine evenly and then will start to jump all over the floor if you do not turn it off and then repack the machine. For all that it cleans and does rinse cloths very well. Not a family washing machine and suited well for pensioner couple. Show details
Fast efficient and does the job – Cleans and rinses clothes and towels well fits 5bath towels No damage to clothes only have to hang my shirts and they don’t need ironing Sound is a bit high on fast spin but it’s only for a minute or so Water softener can be added easy It’s value for money and ease of use Show details
