- Very Soft
Cause of backpain – Have developed back pain and postural issues after sleeping in this bed for 5 years. Over this time the mattress has deteriorated so that we sink deeply into it and roll together. Show details
FlexGel Elite Sanctuary – Worst bed I've ever owned. Whilst lovely and plush, its is lumpy and unsupportive and we've had nothing but bad sleep and sore backs since we bought it. We had the middle springs replaced with firm ones which were fine for less than a week then the lumpy sinking feeling was back.
Wouldnt recommend – Very comfy, but unable to have a fall nights sleep, heats up where your laying, have to keep moving to a cooler spot, but after awhile all the bed is to hot to sleep on,bought only because salesman said it was perfect for menopause woman,my husband can't sleep on it either, wakes up wet from sweat, will have to invest in another mattress when we can afford it. Too hot to sleep on
love gel beds – So cumfy ,no more sore hips. It truly is a pressure relieving mattress. Have had it for over 18 months and have no problems with dipping or change in comfort. Cant feel partner movement. The only criticism is that it might not be as cooling as I thought , though not hot to sleep in so its not a problem.
Dont Purchase this from forty winks. As when their is a problem they show no interest! – After three weeks the troubles started: My shoulders neck and back stared to get problems... not thinking it was our new mattress. I started visiting the chiro, physio just into the new year...Visits to both were twice a week and things did not get much better. After in March I started to notice the bed had left a great big groove on my side of… Read more

I rang the retailer. The gentleman on the phone (didn’t quite get the name) asking about the product. I had goggled the product and on the reviews all had an incredibly similar story to me??? Is or has there been a problem with the product I had purchased that he was aware of?
He said that you can’t trust what you read on the internet as you never know who is writing them. They had sold lots of these mattresses and had never had an issue. The bed is exclusive to the forty winks group. I asked about the warranty and refund issues. He said due to health and safety once a mattress is sold it’s almost impossible to get a refund. The transaction is not with the forty winks group after purchase it is with the customer and the manufacturer. He said that it’s probably me not being used to it and to keep trying to adjust to it.
In late April after my health problems became obvious in C2 &C3 lower lumber issues between my L4 and L5 a twisted Left hip, a locked right pelvis. Dry needling to the souis muscle averaging 3 hours of poor sleep, 8 day + migraines, constant dark black rings around my eyes. Many nights having caused arguments as desperation for sleep. My husband yelling "throw that bed in the bin its garbage!" in the middle of the night as he runs a tiling business and is rushed off his feet .Desperate for sleep has been with us all for 5 months!.
My husband needs his sleep most of all of us as he too will get run down and may lose contracts if days are lost. I had to hear issues between my husband who had to sleep and not ageing to sleep with the light on.my daughter had to have the light on. (He can’t sleep with the light on, we had my husband, daughter and I all had to share our Elite mattress in order to get through some sleep).
On April 30th had all enough of the suffering .I rang and spoke to a very nice and well-spoken person whom listened and said he would follow it up with the manufacturer: (Jason). He apologized and said he would sent a fax as soon as. He would ring me by 3-330pm no later the next day.
Next day he rang 2.30pm telling me he has heard nothing yet from A H Beard. He would call me no later than 12pm on a definite response from AH Beard
On that next day I had nothing?
I rang the store and asked about the phone call. He said he will try and fax again?
By Friday I had heard nothing and gave into calling the store. Instead calling AH Beard.
The lovely lady on the phone Sue listened to all. She had had no communications with anyone about the matter and had no fax? After hearing the problem. She responded about the base? What bas is it on? A slat base I responded?” That bed is extremely heavy. It should only be on a supportive base” Oh my![censored word removed]! I could not believe this. Something so simple could have change the whole 5 months, god only know how much money in health services and time lost due to migraines! Wasn’t even a mention during the whole sale process?
After that I could only call the store to tell them I just chased up the problem with the manufacturer not only was I disgusted to be told fibs about the fax’s but mainly to hear that the base should have never been sold without a strong base!!! The gentlemen on the phone said that it bases don’t matter as 90% of his sale was from sales of mattress only. I told him then you are knowingly misleading the customers into a purchase as it is not the same as what is on display and what is said or not said during the sale.
I had told him how much pain both my family and I had spent the last 5 months in hell because of his purchase!!I was rope able!! I asked for his name. He replied he was the franchisee. I said he should be selling his products in the best interest of the customer…not in the best interests of the stores profits. He hung up the phone on the conversation.
Please understand that I am following my rights as a consumer in South Australia
Reason for a refund:
• Forty Winks Staff misrepresented the product.
• The staff has knowingly misled us the consumer during the sale of the mattress by not disclosing the need for a strong base.
• The store sees no reason why not to mislead the consumer in a purchase and continues to do so.
I would like this problem to be resolved soon, by the end of the business week Friday11th May 2013”
If this issue is not resolved. I will choose to lodge a formal complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Directed and representing staff member [name removed]. Who has advised me of the consumer rights following a lodged complaint that you have knowingly misled others “e.g.: unhappy customers like on the review site” you can be required by law to refund all miss represented products.
This letter is to be kept for record purposes and will be used if required with the lodged complaint. Through S.A Business and Consumer Affairs Department
Attention to Helen as per instruction 10th May 10.38am.
I have sent our two emails to A Current Affair.
Maybe they may choose to do a story on this situation.
So that no one else falls into your sales trapp
Cheers
Expensive con and very expensive suffering for the users
An instrument of torture – I looked for more than a year for a new bed. I wanted a bed with good support and, most importantly, one was cool to sleep in. I tried the Elite Inspiration bed at Forty Winks and thought is was comfortable, was also told, and given brochures stating that it offered good support for pressure points and was at least temperature-neutral. I went… Read more
back again, and decided to buy it. I got the king size, cost me over $5000, on sale. The first night I slept in it I woke up in agony, could hardly get out of the bed and every past of my body hurt. The next morning I was worse, my hips, back, ankles, elbows shoulders, even my ribs were extremely painful. The pain stayed there all day till it was time to go to bed again. I sagged down in the lower back area and my shoulders were thrust forward so I could not get comfortable.
I went back to the shop and was told I would get used to the bed, and it may take a few weeks.
The sales lady who had sold me the bed, and had said with great emphasis, to see her if I had any problems with it, said I should take pain-killers, sleeping pills or drink alcohol, to get to sleep. As I am a doctor, I thought that was stupid advice and quite insulting.
I was sure the bed I got was not the same as the one I tried in the showroom as I would never have bought anything so saggy. Sleeping on it feels like sleeping on a marshmallow on top of a rock.
I persevered, then moved the huge bed into my adult son's room, as he said he would try it, and took back my old queen bed from him.
Within 2 days my son, who gets no joint problems, could hardly walk, was in severe pain and could not bend to tie his shoelaces.
We put the new bed back in my room, and I accidentally found the only way I could sleep on is was to sleep across it, so that is what I have been doing. My feet just reach the end.
It still sags, worse now, especially in the buttocks area, and pushes my shoulders forward. My arms go numb and I get a lot of arm, elbow, and upper back and shoulder pain. The bed is always hot, even If I have just a sheet covering me, and I am always sweaty in it.
I may go back to the shop, but feel it will be no use. but please don't buy this bed!! Initial comfort, when tried in the shop
That's a lot of money to pay to get pain! It seems to me that you have a case to put to the Office… Read more (+1 reply)
