Worst car. Gear shifting is clunky as hell, got a new gearbox cause old one snapped on me while in the middle of traffic and tow costed me 500 then 8k for new gearbox and the labor. Actuator got too old and couldn't switch between 2wd and 4wd, so I'm stuck at the store going back and forward and waiting half an hour to get into 2wd. car has broken… Read more

down 5 times getting towed 5 times in less then 2 years. IV gotten my ford fixed numerous times after I first took it in to get checked. And it only had 105k km on it. Can't drive over water too fast or it'll go up and mess with electrics. Overall this car has been a nightmare and costed me triple of what I bought it for and it was my first car. Not reliable at all, the other good reviews baffle me and makes me wonder if their paid reviews because everytime I drive this car I think about the next breakdown or what's it's gonna cost this time, its like driving a ticking time bomb for my wallet!. This car I wouldn't recommend its a lemon, I spent all up 30k and probably if I'm lucky would be able to sell it for 10k as fords don't hold value like LandCruisers. I should've listened to my father, fords are (F)ound (O)n (R)ubbish (D)ump. This will be my first and last time I ever buy a ford. I wish I could go back in time and punch my self and get a Hilux or cruiser instead but it's life. Now I'm getting a finance for LandCruiser or Hilux where I can rely on it

Nice car but not the most reliable – Bought at 60xxxkm, driven over 5 years to 190xxxkm. Shift actuator failed at 70xxxkm, $1600 from Ford.. $60 from ebay and 3 bolts and a plug to swap out. Egr bypassed after 1 failure and a cracked head, gearbox replaced at 80xxxkm, transmission and injectors at 110xxxkm, head cracked, timing belt failure at 190xxxkm. Cars off to the wreckers. horrible – I own a 2011 PK Wildtrak. i have owned this car since 2019 and it's been in to a gearbox specialist 3 times (and right now) my transfer case motor broke, my PCM broke, my gears are delayed and sort of rough. I was quoted $1100 just for the transfer case motor not including labour. when ford built the 3.0td ranger, they put a gearbox in it from the petrol rangers that's why they are so common to have problems because they aren't very compatible Show details

Awesome truck – Great truck, bought new. Biggest issue was more the level of workmanship and materials whilst under warranty and been worked on by Ford themselves. I have since the warranty expired had to fix many of the issues that arose from bad surviving because the Ford dealer landed up using the wrong fluids or cheap fluids. My UTE had 90K on since… Read more

late 2010, I have fixed the EGR problem with a blank and remap of the ECU which has given the UTE its great fuel economy back and put the power back in the beast. My clutch shutter has gone since the remap as all the power is back, my EGR valve was stuck in the open position, blank that sucker off, catch can fitted that collects all the nasty PCV blow off before the turbo/ inlet manifold.

Remap has put the UTE at 500NM and 200HP, runs great. Recently changed the crappy ATF fluid Ford uses in manual transmissions with full synthetic 70W75,,,, and changed the LSD diff oil to full synthetic 75W90. No more power loss because the diff slips, oil from Ford again low grade run of the mill stuff.

This UTE is a work horse and I love driving it daily, it is reliable and a great vehicle all around. Take the time and treated it with the more expensive fluids and most of your troubles will be resolved.

Blank off that stupid EGR.... Blank off that stupid EGR!!!

Timing Belt Problem – I owned a 2009 PK Ranger for 5 years from now. Had no issues with the vehicle until the 120,000kms service when, as per the Service Schedule the timing belt and adjuster were replaced. 17,000kms later the timing belt snapped due to the tensioner failing. Fortunately there was no damage to the engine because when sold the vehicle had travelled… Read more

252,000km's with no engine problems. Whilst Ford did repair it for free it appeared perhaps something may have happened when the belt and tensioner were originally replaced. 77,000 km,s after the belt had snapped my mechanic replace both the belt and adjuster again as a percautionary measure because it was making an excessive tapping noise. Inspection revealed the tensioner had started to wear. Due to the nature of my work this vehicle was fitted with a Tradie Workmate and carried about 400kg of equipment. Apart from the timing belt and tensioner this vehicle gave me untroubled motoring for 5 years. Despite the reputation these vehicles had with their gear boxes I found once my speed dropped below 80km/hr I went back to 4th gear and never had any problems. In fact by going down a gear it kept the vehicle revs in the power band (2000 - 3000rpm) which gave more power at lower speeds when needed. The fuel consumption was never great but when a 1 ton rated vehicle has a constant load of about 800kg it was never going to be great. However it still delivered 480km to about 60l of fuel and on the open road it constantly travelled at 110 (+ a little sometimes).

Great ute, poor service from Ford – I've owned a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT manual since new. At 25,000 it developed a noisy rear wheel bearing. It now has 90,000 on it and I still have the same noisy bearing. The response from Ford was nothing short of a joke. Multiple trips later, weeks without a car while Ford technicians "test drove" my car over a period of 18 months I just gave up… Read more

and put up with the noise. The same goes for the ute liner that is lifting, after Ford gluing it down no less than 4 times rather than replacing it as I asked for, I gave up on it too.

The ute is an awesome ute, which is why I gave it the 3 stars, I pull boats, trailers, caravans without a worry, plus trips to Birdsville, the Cape and Fraser and never a complaint from her other than a couple of flats and a blown hose.

I'd recommend a PK to anyone that wants the comfort of a family sedan with the carrying capacity of a ute, but make sure you have a reliable mechanic and don't rely on Ford for anything.

Great for a daily driver that you can play with on the weekend.

Very Happy – The Ranger was purchased second hand in 2015 with 111,000 km on it. It is now at 190,000 and is still performing well. It has always been serviced by the book with only relatively minor extra repairs. Anything that should be done has been done. Show details

Gets the job done – I bought my Ranger new in 2011 and have now done 110,000ks. I find the car pretty comfortable around town on the highway or out bush. barwork. My car only ever went to ford for the first service since then I have done all the maintainance and mods myself as my faith in car stealerships is non existent. The car has given very little cause for concern, the only leak has been from the top seal on the gearbox which i fixed while doing the clutch. I found while fitting a snorkel.that mud, sand etc. builds up.in the inner guard, it can be flushed out with a garden hose at the bottom rear of the front quarter panel with the front door open. Just jam the hose in and wash it out.

Not as reliable as I would like! – Despite buying near the top of the range, the diesel engine has habit of failing EGR coolers. Dealers know about this and are hesitant to warranty the failure. Dear Kylie,

Unfortunately we will not be pursuing action in relation to the Ford Ranger at this time.

If you are suffering issues with your car and feel strongly about the issues, we suggest looking into making a case at your state tribunal.

Best of luck. Kind regards,

Ride is good but the rear end was very bouncy with original alloy tray, till I put the new heavy gauge steel tray on. Seats are comfortable and there's plenty of storage space.
