A waste of Money – After having this vehicle and putting in a complaint about with Ford dealers and Head Office about the problem with and getting no were with them and even on this web site. I found the problem myself so it just goes to say that they do not know what to look for even after telling them, they just right you off with it and hope that you go away as… Read more
they think that you do not know anything at all, well i will never buy another Ford again as they they not match up to what they say about them.

RANGER BUYER BEWARE – Purchased a Ford Ranger in 2016. In the first 100,000 km's we had to replace the starter motor; replace the gear box; fix the rear diff pinion seal which was leaking; replace the driver’s seat; fix the radio as it would not turn on; replace the transfer case which was leaking; fix the centre console which was distorted and not fitted correctly;… Read more
and then finally when it just came out of warranty (115,000) the motor fails due to a – “what they say” the fuel unit leaked onto a hose, the engine lost fluids and then overheated. Now the dealer – Rex Gorell Ford want $20,000 to replace the motor. Having supported Ford for over 40 years and with five of them in the household, I would NOT recommend Ford again due to the total lack of care & accountability. They do not care about their product nor their customers.
2.5 years and 80,000km. Love it – Purchased the vehicle new in November 2017. It is an XLS 4x4 auto dual cab. I was originally going to buy a D-max however was offered a deal too good to pass up. I purchased it from Pakenham ford in Victoria and have it serviced there as well and find them to be extremely friendly and helpful. I drive 5-6 days a week to and from work,… Read more
approximately 100-160km a day in a mixture of freeway and peak hour traffic. And I take it through fairly mild tracks through the Victorian high country about 4-6 times a year. I think it’s a pretty comfortable car, plenty of space, enough safety and 4x4 tech to get amateurs like me to places i wouldn’t normally venture. I haven’t had a single issue with the ute, it sits fairly consistently around 9-10l per 100km, it typically has around 200-300kg of gear in the tub as well, however I drive it fairly sedately.
Thus far it’s been reliable and I love it, will it last 300,000km? I have no idea. Would I buy another one? I would definitely short list another ranger, especially with them now having a 5 year/unlimited km warranty.
2017 Automatic gearbox problems – 2017 XLS auto, 25k. Auto is sloppy... ok n bitumen, but on dirt tends to drop into a lower gear, or the torque converter slips markedly when you hit a bump. Consequently it's constantly changing and revving unnecessarily under light load over bumpy roads. Apparently it's within specs, (Ford allow 1000 rpm as within specs!) but seriously crap design. A great all round ute – Bought my XLS from a mate. (Sold due to his failing health)Tricked up beautifully, this XLS in my opinion is as good or better than a Wildtrak. I recommend upgrading suspension and adding iDrive. It has a lot of accessories added by Opposite Lock prior to Rego. A great tray system and auxiliary diesel and water tanks in the tray and much more! Show details
This is perfect – this car is just perfect as i love this car. I like to have many different cars therefore, I know a lot about the cars. due to this reason I recommend all the customers to buy this car as it's affordable and very comfortable car that anyone can ever have. This car is big in size and has good seating arrangement. Show details
Good vehicle – 2nd vehicle in this model. Last was xlt and now xls. Both very reliable with minimal issues. About 10l per hundred on fuel realistically and up to 17 when towing a 2.5t dual axle caravan. Tows well, even on standard suspension. Only complaint so far with the xls is no 12v outlets on constant power. Show details
Very good SUV with lots of grunt in the engine – This car is one of the best utes I've ever driven. Very sturdy & stable on and off road. Although the car is heavy and the engine is big, fuel consumption is incredibly low around town: 9L/km The only gripe I have with this car is how unintuitive its security and power system is. I plugged in a dash cam, but the car just kept feeding it power… Read more
even when I turned the ignition off and locked the door. I can't find any option of changing this setting. Eventually the battery started to run flat and the security alarm just went off in the middle of the night. This is quite annoying and I have to unplug my dashcam everytime I lock the car, and it's quite annoying.
The other thing is that the Ford SYNC system isn't very intuitive either. I spent hours pressing every button trying to switch from USB audio to Audio jack input, until I finally realised that the buttons stand for categories, and if you press it more than once it will shuffle to the next option.
Great ute – Drives nice and smooth, plenty of power to get up and go. Interior is ok, pretty basic but that’s all we need. Easy to keep clean inside and out. Plenty of room in the dual cab for the kids. Running costs are low and fuel consumption around 9L/100km. Tows our 20ft caravan with ease-hardly feel like there’s anything hooked on behind us! A great workhorse – After having a another brand ute which had a hard time towing my 3000kg trailer . The Ranger does it with ease, with power to spare making driving more relaxed. 60,000klm on and still going strong , The fuel economy is good even towing. The xls has all the room and a comfort that a tradie needs. Show details
ACL 54.2 Car is of unacceptable quality and under ACL243, dam entitled to full refund – My clutch in 2015 Ford Ranger PX XLS 4x4, has been in for Warranty twice in last 12months, Clutch Vibration and clunking on gear change. Orange Cog Light comes on randomly, puts vehicle into Limp mode. Answer from Ford. Clutch noise, vibration and clunking is normal, it's because of the dual mass flywheel. PX is Single Mass Flywheel. So don't… Read more
worry about it.
Asked about Orange Cog light when it first did it on Highway. Just pullover, turn car off for 10 minutes and it will go away! What? I asked why it came on in the first place and he said "No idea, been doing it in a few Rangers, haven't found why yet" Unbelievable answers. So I write to Principal where I was told the above answers, Mid Coast Ford Taree, where I Purchased vehicle Titan Ford, Australian Customer Service GM [name removed] and Ford Australia's [name removed]. Very, if any, ordinary responses. Rang Ford Customer Service and Lodged complaint. Same woman rang me back yesterday 7/8/2017, to tell me Complaint has been closed? I asked why, under orders of someone above her. [name removed], that's only information I have. Now I have forked out $2600 for a New Xtreme Outback Heavy Duty Clutch for my own piece of mind and family safety. Still have issue with Orange Cog light and now water leak that soaks underside of carpet, I dry it, next day it's the same. So much for Ford Australia's Customer Service, Warranty, and Customer Satisfaction. What do I do? As not one Principal will speak or call me, cannot lodge a complaint, and under Australian Consumer Law 54.2 Vehicle is not of acceptable quality and under ACL243,d am entitled to a full refund.

Know better, choose better.
Finger crossed – I have owned XLS specl Edt since Dec 16..Towed a 2 tonne van exceptionally well for 7,500 ks...Not bad on fuel, across the new England ranges...22.5lt per 100ks On the flat 15.5lt per 100ks. Inner front guards plastic linings rattled so I replaced the plastic plug things...all good...Hard to be critical so far with over 10,000 ks on it. Ride and… Read more
drive position is very good...Enough electic doodads on board with out getting confused. It has stuttered a cpl of times after take off after leaving idle for a few mins, paint seems thin as got a few chips to easy..4.5 to 5 stars.
i like it – its a good solid car drives well for a ute ,quiet inside, refined steering and suspension and has a lot of safety features, tows my caravan well, good 4 wheel drive system, great features, fuel consumption ok could be better but i carry a heavy load it is a good vehicle to drive on or off road Show details
Nothing but issues – Bought my ranger from Riverland ford was promised the world & been nothing but issues since day 1. Adaptive cruise doesn't work. Suspension sagged to left hand side. Ulitimate driving machine – This vehicle is the ultimate driving machine. The outside styling is sexy and the interior design and layout is awsome. For a diesel there is little to no engine noise, it drives smooth with auto transmission and has all the gadgets anyone could ever need. Fuel economy is excellent, both in town and on the highway. I wish I had bought one earlier. Show details
Excellent all rounder ute! – Really happy with the handling of the newer Rangers, when put up against multiple job sites I never have a problem with maneuverability, turning circle and drive train. In terms of the interior the space is a big benefit, it feels like a large SUV inside, however I think Ford could focus on the dashboard features a little and update. Realisability… Read more
is fantastic, durable and a great all rounder. Fuel Economy is around the average if not a little better mark.
Great except for the paint – Just came back from a hunting trip. Love the car except the paint is marked from the light bush rubs and the tailgate is peppered with stone chips - only towed a trailer 58km on a dirt road. The door chime is extremely annoying especially when you want to sit with the door open and keys in the ignition. Performed well but I still have to get used to it ( only 4mths old). Show details
A reel shame – Always wanted a new Ranger for as long as i could remember. Not anymore. I have had an xls for six months now with already two sensor issue under my belt. My most recent issue i fear is more concerning, for i have stalling, shaking, down gearing and spontaneous alert signaling happening almost daily now. I can only hope that this doesn't become a… Read more
painful ongoing issue . A reel shame i love the car. Fingers crossed for when i hear back from my ford dealership regarding this matter.
Radio – Radio went on the fritz the other day. Getting the run around from ford. Software issue. missing temp on screen. They require proof that there is something wrong with radio, so I showed them photo`s I had taken. Still not enough info for Ford the replace radio. Have found different VIN/Build`s 50 or 80 show temp on screen. July 11th 2017… Read more
Update: Engine Stalling at idle
Engine stalls at idle, has been back to the dealer 4 times now. First 2 visits - Reset computer. Third visit - reset computer and clean all sensors and install diesel dog filter. Fourth visit - reset computer again. Its been 4 weeks now with no issue, I'm crossing my fingers now .. Service guys have been great but unable to find fault. Overall performance of the ute is great. Needs more cup holders and a big touch screen. Have factory canopy fitted, the rear glass reflects images in front of ute ..very annoying ...
September 9th 2017 Update: Engine Stall
Ranger with engine stall at idle , was at dealership a couple of weeks ago and had computer reset again with new update. Was told ,this will fix the problem ! . Couple of days latter a new problem, engine would cut out for a split second and would do this several times ,then a day later it would not start . Would crank over but not fire up. Left it sit for five minutes then it started up with no issue. Went back to dealership and plugged computer in to check for error, found sensor was at fault and replaced . Work in progress for Ranger
November 11th 2017 Update: Idle issues
Idle issues fixed with updates, had to make several trip to dealer to get it sorted . Service was great . It will help to take videos of fault/issues to service department and if you can take it straight there and get them to plug it in to a computer straight away to run diagnostics .
Absolutley NO after sales warranty from ford australia. Cost me 9.5 weeks without a work vehicle and – Bangs and thudders from the gear box and diff. Four ford dealers saying i had unacceptable drive train problems. But not according to ford australia. I went 9.5 weeks yes two and a half months without a work vehicle while ford stuffed me around. After that it costs me sixteen thousand dollars in trade in change over. Buy a Isuzu dmax. Isuzu will give you backup after sales service. Not so ford. Show details
