high for others and most failed, with the exception of the other two Solar Quotes referrals, both of whom were worthy of consideration. Ultimately we chose GI Energy due to its approach to customer service, its quality products and installation, great reviews and its commitment to sustainability that goes beyond many of its competitors. Was GI Energy the cheapest? It was between the two other Solar Quotes referrals (slightly different inverter/panel mix) but more than the cheaper rivals. However, when it came to commitments around warranties, service, installation, etc, GI Energy was way ahead of its cheaper competitors. As this installation will probably be our last purchase of solar panels for our roof, we wanted to ensure that we made no mistakes. We were delighted with the installation process which was expertly handled by Stu and Dan. It wasn't an easy install due to the conditions, but they just got on with it and despite the odds, managed to finish the job in one day. They also did some meter box work (RCBOs) for us within the price charged. GI Energy has been so easy to communicate with throughout the process and we are confident that we made the best choice for our replacement solar panels and inverter.

Good … but not perfect! – Lured into accepting the most expensive of several solar quotes by a helpful and courteous contact person through the offer of a “monitoring system” as a “free” inclusion, the installation of the 10.4kW system was installed seamlessly after a short delay and has been working well. weeks later after the issue being pointed out by my neighbour. The panels were re-set and secured and all has been working fine since. No complaints there. However, the monitoring system has never worked consistently, requiring call-backs of the installers when they are in town to re-set the system … which has only ever worked for 30 mins or so after being re-set. They’ve hardly left the premises and it’s down again. It was then suggested that the wifi must be the problem and I would have to purchase a wifi booster, which I did. There was no change and I couldn’t access a record of our daily energy use and solar production. So, I decided to change the wifi provider and go a supposedly “superior” network. That is proving to have been a good move all round. However, this means that the monitoring apps and inverter need to be re-set again to the new wifi network. But, this time, I am told that I am expected to pay a sizeable call-out service fee … and for something that has NEVER worked reliably as per the promises given, despite my every attempt to solve things from my end, at significant cost to me already. To say that I am disappointed, is an understatement. If I had my time over again, I would have chosen a lesser quote from a different company and paid the extra for the monitoring service, which would have ended up being the same price anyway. The alternative company would have been much closer and more accessible to me, too. Silly me … I won’t make that mistake again! Moral of the story? Check the voracity of commitments given and get it in writing. Ask what the after-sales service and costs are that you need to consider … and get that in writing, too.

This delayed the install to late January, however after another inspection and after my $5000 deposit was taken, [Name Removed] contacted me via email stating that he would require an addition $3800 to complete the job due to the steepness of my roof.

I contacted [Name Removed] via phone, and queried him as previously he stated that no extra cost would be passed onto me due to their error. This obviously was not the case, he then stated basically "we are not going to do the job"

Extremely unprofessional, AVOID this shonky business at all costs.

End to End process – I have spoken to quite a few solar companies over the years and after fact checking, none of them really gave me 100% accurate advice which turned me off the idea of getting solar. trees so they did a full report showing where the shade went over the day (which no one else did) and gave me options for using different types of inverters to help with the shading. They gave me seperate savings figures for different types of systems and were really patient allowing me to make an informed decision. The installation team was great - really polite and helpful. Even with my shading, in the middle of winter, my bill has gone down from $6.50 a day to $2.85 a day, even though I have added a pool and a pool heater (which uses heaps of energy apparently). We installed a 6.6kW system with a Fronius inverter. After the installation the consultant showed me how to use my solar monitoring so I can see how it is working. Out of all the companies I spoke to, these guys are streets ahead and I would highly recommend them to friends and family. Thanks GI!

Complicated 3-phase solar quote, absolutely fabulous interaction – Whilst we didn't end up installing the GI Energy solution, it was absolutely line-ball (price, technical information, customer service) with the solution we installed.
