I have 62cc 20" Giantz chainsaw. I bought one worked it hard cutting box and iron bark. It earned its keep so I bought another. The trick is clean the air filter with fuel and keep a sharp chain on . Good value. Show details

This worked okay for a month or two but the plastic shroud around the centrifugal mechanism melted and made it completely inoperable. I tried to fix it but had no luck, never enquired about a refund. I think chainsaws are just something you need to buy from a good reputable brand. Note: starting the chainsaw for the first time required jamming my… Read more

Fraudulent product WARNING stay well away !!!! – I bought a brand new Giantz 62CC 20″ Chainsaw not 22" from Ebay all in it's packaging, followed all the instructions correctly, used good quality oil & fuel mixture & chainsaw oil it simply does not start at all, if you go onto YouTube there are people complaining about the exact same issue, the 2 stroke petrol motor is the problem I don't know… Read more

which Chinese company manufactured the motor clearly they have no idea they are simply unknown. These branded products should not be sold on the Australian market plain & simple.

Surprisingly good – Firstly, there are a lot of different "Giantz" chainsaw models and they all appear to come from different manufacturers/suppliers - so keep in mind that my comments relate ONLY to the specific (62cc) model listed! So....... I have owned this for a year now and have used it on about 10 tonnes of firewood (so far) including a lot of logs 16-20"… Read more ·  1

in diameter. Running the 22" bar - it has surprisingly good power for this type of work. It only starts to struggle a bit with the chain tending to stall only once it starts going blunt, so I usually sharpen it every second tank of fuel. The only trouble I had initially was that it was impossible to start (a common complaint in reviews) but this was because it flooded very easily. I found that if you DO NOT use the primer it starts reliably (from cold) usually on the 2nd or 3rd pull. The effort required on the starter is quite reasonable and when it's warm you only have to give it a little tug (about 10") and it generally starts on the first go. I don't know if I "just got a good one" or not - but I am very happy with it - especially considering the price of around $120 (delivered) including a spare chain! We'll see how long it lasts - but it's had a fair bit of use and "so far so good". Note that I do regularly maintain it between jobs (chain sharpening, tensioning, air filter, cleaning etc.) which probably helps. But even if it breaks tomorrow I reckon I've got my money's worth out of it. So (just in case) I've just ordered a second one today! I hope this next one proves to be just as good as the first! A lot of reviewers say "don't waste your money on cheap stuff" and to "just go buy a good (brand name) one" - but that could cost you around $1500..... so it's not always that simple....

Giantz chainsaw, another wont start out of the box – Bought a new giantz 52cc chainsaw. Been trying to start it for an hour but just wont start. Seems to have decent spark, but still wont start. Came with a spare spark plug, switched them, and still wont start. Disappointing as my chinese brand combo pole saw I got from the same ebay company Ozplaza starts first time and it's done a power of… Read more

work for the past 8 years or so. Reading a lot of reviews here saying their giantz chainsaws wont start is a concern. Contacted Ozplaza about getting a replacement, but maybe if you're looking for a cheaper chainsaw, give Giantz a miss.

Giantz 62cc 24" bar – I am pleasantly surprised with performance of this cheapest chainsaw on the market with 24" bar ! Easy to start and go troughs 24" ironbark hardwood like butter. I intended to use it sporadically but now I could see it as good as my other Stihl ! Show details

GIANT piece of rubbish – I suggest going to karate school and chopping wood with your hand rather than buying the GIANT chainsaw. You will never know if it works as it will never start. Show details

Great Boat Anchor – Ordered one ... I have a shed full of Giantz product at my weekender and they are great for the simple tasks. Cheap but I only had a simple job. Brand new chainsaw out of the box ... just would not start. The seller played games a little before sending another one. I didn't waste my time putting the chain and bar on. just put a bit of fuel in… Read more

and tried to start. To my surprise it started but it wont hold the revs and stops. I put it back in the box and when I next go fishing I will tie a rope on it and use it as a boat anchor. I worked out the "E" in e start is "eternity" to start. If at all. If anybody wants an air cover or parts I have two units for parts.

Has been to three different small engine repair shops. They can't get it to start and hold revs.

I did try hard to make this purchase work.

Elcheapo saw does the job – I bought two Giantz 62cc chainsaws off ebay with 20 inch Oregon bars and chains . 1st one started and ran fine the first 10 times I used it then it had a massive engine failure ( Engine turns over when spark plug removed but locks up with plug in ) so it's a spare parts saw now . The power head is the same as Baumr AG 62cc saw and all engine parts… Read more

are the same . My 1st Baumr AG 62cc is 7 years old and still going strong. I have 3 Baumr AG saws . The 2nd one packed it in so I fixed it with parts off my broken Giantz saw . The second Giantz is still going but can be hard to start . It won't start when hot and needs 1/2 hour to cool down then it will start again . The other day I found a 58cc Giantz saw down the tip and used the parts off my broken Giantz saw to get it running again . I use these saws to cut down huge dead gun and iron bark trees on our property for firewood . These saws have plenty power to cut up to 18 inch thick logs as long as you keep the chain sharp .

Have not been able to start it – Way too hard to start. No decompression facility. Very poor instruction manual with poor diagrams and a button on the side for starting which does not exist. Asked for a refund and they wanted a video. I cannot even pull the starter handle to try for a start. Very disappointing as I purchased a smaller saw for trimming branches after a storm. Giantz Pro-62cc chainsaw – Cheap and nasty, you get what you pay for. First saw came out of the box and didn't start. Seller told me I was using the wrong fuel when I was just following the instruction manual. After much effort the saw was replaced only to be given another faulty saw. This one starts easily when cold but refuel it when hot and the saw floods itself… Read more

rendering it useless until it cools down & dries out. Very high compression when starting combined with a small, poorly shaped handle on the pull starter and you get blisters and cuts on your hand from trying to start a flooded saw. Rubber seal on petrol cap faulty from new.

Do not buy. I would give this item zero stars if I could. I wish I had put the money from this saw into a better branded saw like Husqvarna or Stihl.

Great Value Inexpensive Chainsaw – After using an extremely reliable second hand 33CC Husqvarna 14" chainsaw for nearly 10 years cutting up firewood each winter, I ran into a problem. I had had a back operation and bending over to cut the firewood was killing my back. So I looked at longer bar chainsaws to reduce the bending, and saw that good brands were fairly expensive - which… Read more

didn't bother me - but I was worried that holding the extra weight of the bigger chainsaw might be worse for my back than using my little one. And that as such, I might be buying a white elephant that I would find to heavy to use.

I noticed the Giantz 62CC 22"Bar chainsaw going for $95 including postage on Ebay, and thought that at that price I could give the bigger size a go and see whether I could handle it - and if good for my back, look at getting a better one later.

I received the Giantz chainsaw and was waiting for winter to use it, when last week, our old dead huge gum tree fell over. I spent about five minutes trying to get a first cut through it with my small Husqvarna. Then I gave up and fired up the Giantz for the first time - which easily cut through the tree like butter, and I cut most of it into pieces in no time. I rang into a snag in that the base of the tree was a lot wider than the 22" bar, and because of shrubs on the other side, I had to be creative to cut the log from one side only.

The chainsaw cover is all plastic, as expected in this price range. This made it lighter than other brands I'd held in stores. Some would look at that plastic and say "Cheap S##t", but my sore back treats it as an absolute positive.

Annoyances. a. The manual says, "H your machine has a primer (3), press it three times to aid starting". I couldn't find a primer on it, so I take it the "H" means "If". It took me about 50 pulls of the cable to start it the first time, despite having the throttle out. But it has started very quickly without a problem ever since. b. The manual is well written but it would be better if the writing and illustrations were bigger.

Note Well - The chain oil recommended in the manual is normal SAE 10W-30 motor engine oil, which is much thinner than the regular chain oil sold for other chainsaw brands.

Conclusion. I was extremely impressed with the performance of both the chainsaw and the life of the chain. So far, it has easily cut more wood than I would have done in a year with my old chainsaw. The price of this unit is currently around $30 or $40 dearer than what I paid for it. Regardless, for a casual user like me this Giantz chainsaw has been great value - it paid for itself just cutting up that tree. Reading reviews of equivalent inexpensive Chinese chainsaws suggests that they won't have anything like the quality and reliability of the good and the premium brands. But I'm not a Lumberjack.

I have decided to treat it as a throwaway item, and have already bought a second back-up Giantz unit for when this one eventually breaks down and is headed for the bin.

WARNING - A chainsaw is the most dangerous piece of equipment most people will ever use, and horrendous injuries have occurred. Go to Bunnings and buy the Ryobi combined helmet/ear-muffs/metal-mesh face mask and buy gumboots with the metal toe guard. Never use a chainsaw without them on - most especially if using inexpensive Chinese chainsaws and chains, where the chains are known for being of varying quality.

UPDATE: The chainsaw had been working very well till one day I noticed it wasn't using any chain oil - which obviously deteriorates performance and life of the chain. The manual mentions taking the bar off and cleaning any blockage at the oil outlet on the chainsaw. That is insufficient advice.

One needs to also clean the little round oil hole on the actual bar, and clean the groove in the chain bar, and clean the channel between the oil hole which leads to the chain bar groove. This can easily be accomplished by using the plastic strapping that wrapped the box the unit was delivered in.

Use the little screw driver that came with the unit to clean the oil hole on the bar out. Use the cut end of the plastic strapping to run along the length of bar groove to clean muck out. Cut a small thin strip off the plastic strapping and push it either through the oil hole out to the groove, or vice versa, or do both till the channel is totally clean and oil can then be delivered to the bar.

While I've never had to do this cleaning with my Husqvarna chainsaw, I notice on-line that quite a few people have had the blocked chain oil problem with their Stihl chainsaws as well, so it's not unique to the Giantz unit.
