Giantz 62CC 9in1 Pole Chainsaw Set

Everything about it is average but the price – Bought the Giantz 62cc pole saw off ebay. Arrived in 72hrs in rural SA and paid $140 delivered. Everything is included including gloves and safety glasses. It completed the task of cutting down an overhanging gum tree that was over 3m high successfully. The tree was upto 200mm diameter. It's an absolute bargain, engine starts well and all the parts are very impressive... but... It took 15 minutes to cut down the tree but a few hours in-between on maintenance. Don't buy it if not technically minded. If you like to tinker then it's fantastic. Problem 1. Choke lever incorrectly labelled off means on. 2. Oil feed to chain was in operable and needed gearbox disassembly to set feed screw properly. 3. Extension poles fit together in a dodgy manner and the gear splines hardly engage. They jump out under a heavy load and requires disassembly to re-engage. 4. Total pole length is obscene as it is unmanageable unless you have an elephant as a friend. 5. Stop/start switch is poor and super sensitive and machine kept cutting out when using. I would most certainly buy another for the price. It has paid for itself already. With a few modifications it should improve but consider buying a better brand if you want hassle free. Certainly don't pay too much for this.

It does the work – It's heavy. I struggled a bit to assemble it. At last it works well for the price.

Giantz 75 cc Pole Chainsaw – Not this model as I cannot find mine on reviews but 75 cc Giantz Pole chain saw Hardly any use, like new and has wrecked the chain saw gear box .On further examination there is plenty of grease present .So I have been attempting to contact the supplier as they advertise as being an Australian company . I am unable to find them any where .I did get in touch with Harvey Norman who supply their product online but they are refusing to give me contact details. Will never shop there again, this company, in my opinion is selling sub standard merchandise

Very Good - But Not So Easy E-Start – 1. I live on an acre property with trees and hedges which eventually require lots of pruning and cutting back to keep the place tidy, or to cut down branches broken from wind storms. I own various chainsaws, a hedge trimmer and a brush cutter - but they do not reach far enough in many cases. I bought the Giantz Multi Tool set primarily for using the chainsaw pole lopper and the long reach hedge trimmer, and to have the brush cutter/whipper snipper attachments as a back-up, should my regular brush cutter ever break down.

2. I haven't used any of the whipper snipper/brush cutter attachments, so I can't comment on them here. I also bought on Ebay a couple of additional longer extension poles which, being longer than the ones that came with this set, increased versatility in reach.

3. I find the unit fairly heavy and requires a bit of strength to use. However, the pole chainsaw and hedge trimmer both work very well. The hedge trimmer obviously doesn't work as well as my Ryobi hedge trimmer, but is much better than an earlier Ebay hedge trimmer I'd bought. I wouldn't be without either the pole chainsaw or pole hedge trimmer.

Main Problem. 4. When the motor is started, the unit is a dream to work with. But that is my main issue with my unit. It's supposed to be an Easy Start (E-Start) motor, but my one isn't. The manual says to push the petrol bulb till one sees petrol flowing back down the return plastic petrol tube, pull the choke button up, then pull the cord a few times till the motor starts. That has never happened with my unit.

5. Instead, most times I've found myself pulling the cord 50 or 60 times or more till I gave up in frustration with a sore arm. Then waiting a while, trying again and eventually it starts after another 20 or so pulls of the cord. Plainly, it is very easy to flood the motor. The trick appears to be to push the bulb only until the tiniest bit of petrol is visible in the return plastic tube. Doing it that way, I only have to pull the cord 20 times or so to get it started.

6. When I needed a rest from using the unit, I've turned it off and then later went back to restart it again. But unfortunately, there was still no quick start, rather another 20 or so pulls of the cord to get it started. So now when I need to rest, or to change say the chainsaw attachment to the hedge trimmer one - I just keep the motor running.

7. I was wondering if maybe the unit came with a cheap spark plug, but it had a good Champion CJ8 spark plug. I did try a new Champion CJ8 spark plug, but that didn't improve anything.

Conclusion. 8. Apart from the starting issue, the unit is excellent for its intended task. In terms of value, it is interesting to note that say the Stihl Hedge Trimmer Kombitool - which does the same job as the hedge trimmer attachment that comes with the Giantz unit - costs $429 - which is nearly double the price of the entire Giantz unit with all the attachments.

WARNING. 9. If you buy this or any other similar unit (like the Baumr AG one), you must buy something like the Ryobi or the Oregon Safety Helmet with Ear Muffs and Face mesh. I've had a few branches fall on my head which would have hurt a lot more without the helmet, and using a chainsaw without a good face mesh is ridiculously unsafe.
