radio closer to your ear. Buttons are backlit, as is the display. The latter is very easy to read. Multi-colour LED is a BIG bonus. Saves having a Captain Cook at the display to find out if the channel's busy when CTCSS squelch is on. There's a hole in the top to poke and tie a handstrap on for those who like the extra security of having the radio tied to their hand so it isn't accidentally dropped or lost. Volume knob is easy to get at with gloves. Can't fault it. Would buy another 2.

Absolutely Perfect – Excellent radio, use it all the time the radio never fails me I would like to thank GME for this. I brought this from AutoBarn for $150 it was a great buy. Although it can sometimes be hard to hear its a great radio!

Rugged Little Radio – Unlike the other reviews I find this radio loud enough. Although fairly inexpensive I have found it rugged with a good range of features. The unit has been left out overnight in the pooring rain, after removing the batteries and drying out it still worked which was a big surprise.

failed us. The uniden uh065sx failed after 2 years because the crystal is located in the base of the unit, hence after a couple of drops, the crystal is busted and no spares are available.

I had to put rubber under the battery contacts to increase the contact pressure so power drop outs don't occur. After this mod, the walky seems to work well.

I'd like to add that transmitting in 2watts doesn't give much battery life, but 1 watt gives excellent talk time. The unit will cycle transmit on/off when battery is low on 2watts.... switching to 1 watt stops this from occuring.

The clarity of the speaker is mediocre when compared to the uniden, but I must say, the GME speaker does cut through when in a crowd and speech is very intelligible. Ruggedness. Excellent reception. Compact and light. Poor battery contacts. 2watt mode cycling on/off when battery is low. Mediocre sounce quality.

not for use on loud sites! – ive been using this radio now for about 2 years and some signals come through so quite its near impossible to hear without holding the unit to your ear!! for use in real quite situations sure but even then i would try another unit with a good review first, maybe even a better but cheap brand unit at the same price ;) once coupled with new rechargable aa's its battery life was excellent 2-3 days on hi mode very quite when used with some radios

Good – I own a tx680 as well and regret buying this unit as apposed to another tx680. This unit is not as loud, clarity is no where near as good and battery life is nowhere near as long, and it takes much longer to charge. with little ambient noise and over short distances (within 2 or 3km from experience) this unit is quite sufficient. compact unit. easy to use. good reseption for a 2 watt set. clarity and battery life is not great.

Bad – As mentioned in another review, the unit is built to a price and good to use when the background noise is low. It is quite small and does not have the feel of the higher priced units. Volume is controlled by a knob, not a menu as with other low-priced units. The speaker is barely loud enough to overcome the background noise in a (not particularly noisy) car when driven at highway speeds, without holding the unit up.
