I am obsessed with this blanket - it made the perfect mother's day gift for all my sisters, their kids wake up early to jump under the "robot blanket". It's perfect for the cold mornings and nights we're getting in Melbourne, and I love that it's big enough to share with someone in bed or on the couch.

Purchased at Goldair for $99.

This is my review for Goldair XL Plush Reversible Heated Throw Blanket, model GPHT100. I purchased this online from Harvey Norman for $129. The standard delivery cost was an extra $7.95. Even though I paid for standard delivery, this parcel arrived so fast. It only took 1 and a half weekdays to be delivered to regional Australia; parcel was shipped with Australia Post. The Harvey Norman store is 62 kilometres away from my home. The item was prepared as a parcel and shipped very quickly with this Harvey Norman store. Wow, Thank you.

Unpacking :

The heated throw comes boxed and folded in a cloth bag with a drawstring. The actual throw looks grey or charcoal colored in the online advertising photos but it's actually a very nice dark brown.

Included are:

1x faux fur blanket, 1 x controller,  printed Operating Instructions,  a printed 'Read Me First' sheet with a font size 9 or 10 point.

The printed Operating Instructions state that this heated throw has QC Passed PO#-WWYY ( Quality Control Passed ). And also display the unique identifier for specific Approval from the Standards Association of Australia: SAA-200766-EA. The instructions also address the tingling sensation and Electromagnetic Field which some people may feel while using any electric heated blanket. The printed information states that this blanket can also be plugged into an extension lead.  ( Make sure that the power outlet on your wall and the extension lead are in excellent condition. Don't connect any electric appliances to any power source if you're unsure, if the plug is loose or if it looks like it's in bad condition etc ).

The Controller:

The power cord with the connected controller is 259cm long so that's good. The used energy is rated 120 watts while selected to the highest heat setting. ( The lower heat settings will use less energy or less watts ). The controller has a Menu which is either used to toggle back and forth for either the heat setting or timer. I'm glad it has a timer option. The controller also has a LED readout to display. You would just see a number of the heat settings in the display. The controller can be disconnected so this Throw can be washed.

The advertised size is 180 cm x 200 cm.The actual dimensions of the throw I've purchased are actually measure 197 cm x 177 cm. So that's a total of 6 cm which are missing - I feel I got short changed with fabric, faux fur.

Actual use of this heated throw :

While I cover myself with this Goldair heated throw, i.e. I have this heated throw on top of me, the connector and controller are positioned to my top left ( whereas on my Other branded heated throws the connector and controller were positioned on the top right ). I was quite used to the previous controllers being conveniently placed on the top right hand side. With this Goldair heated throw I have to use my left hand to search for the controller; I'm right handed. I don't know why Goldair decided to position the connector to the left. I don't like the idea of the controller and the power cord to be across me while I'm covered.

I turned the split air con Off half an hour ago. I've covered myself with this Goldair heated throw while reclining on my sofa. It's currently 12°C outside and I've got this heated throw heat setting on 3; this feels a little warm on my legs and it's sufficient for my needs. I've also turned it up to 5 heat setting and it feels like it's almost hot at the knees, toasty. I don't think I'd want the heat setting any higher for today. This heated throw seems to distribute more heat to the areas where this throw and its electric elements actually cover my body or appendages.

My reasons why I purchased this electric appliance:

• The large size which is ample means that I'm well covered. ( My previous electric heated throws were too small. Previously, I'd make a move to grab my coffee cup or move my legs and I'd find that my legs or appendages were easily uncovered and I'd feel a cold draft ). I'm definitely well covered with this Goldair heated throw and there's plenty of room to also put my hands under this large sized heated throw and also be able to move my arms without them getting uncovered so I don't feel any cold drafts. • It has a 3 year Manufacturers Express Warranty. That's great ( because my previous heated throws of other brands only had a 12 months warranty ). • It's by a New Zealand company, Goldair which has had experience in electric heating and cooling appliances.  • It's approved by the Standards Association of Australia and has Quality Control Passed which are clearly marked on several spots.  • It also has an optional timer to automatically switch off - this is very important for safety and saving energy if it's forgotten or left switched On.

Goldair was founded in New Zealand. Goldair primarily manufactures home comfort products, specifically heating, cooling, and air treatment solutions. However this Faux Fur Heated Throw is clearly marked 'Made in China'.

I've only had this Goldair heated throw for a day. I've had it switched on for approximately 3 hours. So far so good. I intend to use it every day and several times a day during this cold season. It can get cold outside, overnight with minus 7°C and even some snow a couple of times per year in my part of regional Australia. This Goldair heated throw definitely has a nice very soft feel to it.

I don't know how long it's going to last until it breaks down ( however that said, my other two previous electric heated throws of Other two brands did become faulty within the 12 month warranty period and I've been the only adult using them but not abusing them ).

Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $129.
