Haakaa Silicone

Pros and cons – I was very excited to buy this breastpump as there was a lot of hype around it. It wasn't until I got it home and used it that I understood how it actually worked: it doesn't "pump" at all, but just suctions into your breast to pull the milk out. There is no ability to squeeze it to replicate the way baby sucks as there with powered pumps. As a… Read more
result, I find it quite uncomfortable to wear especially when my breasts area really full, but that's the only time it works for me. If you are not experiencing a let-down, or the milk doesn't readily come out, then this will not work. Also DON'T LET IT GO! I have had so much precious milk spill after thinking the suction was strong, to then feel it fall off and watch as in show motion the liquid gold spilling everywhere. I don't know if I'd buy this product again... I'd probably use it if it were gifted to me.
Not a breast pump – This is not a breast pump. Speaking to lactation specialists, they discourage using. Best to use a proper breast pump. The Haakaa does not stimulate milk production. Show details
Best option for Mums with Newborns-without the hassle of electric pumps and complicated contraptions! – I am a Mum to my second child and had a lot of difficulty breastfeeding my first due to supply issues. The haaka has given me a highly convenient product to catch my let-down on my alternate breast when breast feeding. This helps increase supply by emptying the breast further after feeding, and prevents wastage, also I put every little bit I catch… Read more
in a milk bag which has started my “stash”. I wash it with soap and hot water and let it dry in the sun. Much easier to clean than complicated breast pumps!! Great for preventing engorgement and blocked ducts also.
I don’t normally write reviews, but if I can help other mums with previous issues build their confidence in breastfeeding their second or third-please!! use this product!

Probably the best baby related product – This pump has halved my anxiety with having a newborn. It attaches so easily, isn't too big or awkward to attach while feeding and works SO MUCH BETTER than I expected. I would suggest just dont suction it on too hard for too long or you will swell and then baby cant latch as well. Just enough suction be comfortable and secure. Its not sucking… Read more
the milk out, but gently encouraging it to flow while you feed, and collecting what you would have otherwise have lost. Its been amazing for catching just 1 or 2ml of extra colostrum for topping up in the first few days, to day 5 where I'm collecting about 20ml per feed. A lot for this early on! I wish I had it for my first. I wouldn't have had to express in between 3 hourly feeds to build up a supply of backup milk.
AMAZING! – So easy to use I could just go on and on about this product! I use it at least every morning while bubs is feeding on the other side, it's hands free and so comfortable! Simply amazing, I wish I knew about it earlier! Show details
I love this! Very convenient! – I brought the second gen that comes with a lid and a suction part in the bottom for spillage. This has been a lifesaver! I've recently been building up a stash for when I return to work. This has also given me relief when I've woken up with engorgement resulting in 150mls as picture below! I can't rave about this enough! Show details
Amazing! Even at 9 months post partum – Purchased and used for the first time when my baby was 9 months old. Obviously breastfeeding is well established now and I don’t find I leak very much but wanting to try my baby more regularly with a bottle (which she currently won’t take) before returning to work soon. Expressing after feeds is annoying and time consuming, so thought I’d give… Read more
this a go to try and steadily build up as stash of breastmilk. Well I’ve used it twice today already, it’s so easy to just grab and pop on whilst feeding from the other side, and rinses quickly sfterwards. Very happy to easily get 30mls without any effort, I thought maybe I’d only get a dribble! Very pleased with my purchase, should easily have a bottle by the end of the day.

Easy and worth trying before pumping – Before having my baby, I was tossing up whether I wanted to pump if I was able to breastfeed. I came across the Haakaa and decided that I would try it out first before pumping and committing expense and effort into electric pump. I really liked the idea of not messing with natural supply - plus, I figure there is enough to do with a new baby… Read more
rather than throwing in pumping and the hassle that comes with cleaning, sterilising electric pumps.
I really like the Haakaa and I definitely think it is worth trying out before committing to a pumping schedule. With the Haakaa I just attach to the opposite breast that my daughter is feeding from to capture any excess milk. I wouldn't say I have an excess or abundant supply probably just average - but with this I was able to capture about 100ml a day (I would not use this for night feeds as it is a little extra effort). You can also give it a squeeze to encourage more flow but the 100ml ended up being more than I really need anyway. I now just do this on the lead up to weekend so there's a spare bottle or two in the fridge in case I am out and about without my daughter.
It is an fairly inexpensive product and the best part is it is easy to clean and sterilise as it is just one silicone unit - and I'm pretty sure it can be put through the dishwasher (I do anyway!).
I definitely recommend trying the Haakaa if you are on the fence about regular pumping.
Very happy lactation! – WOAH. This product is AMAZING. I so badly wish I had it after having my first child. For anyone who hates to pump and doesn't rely too heavily on a TON of stored milk, this is for you! I am a SAHM and want to build a bit of a freezer supply of milk up but absolutely hate to pump...this is the PERFECT way to collect milk without having to go… Read more
through the whole pump fiasco. This product collects milk from your letdown and naturally pulls a bit more milk through suction. Make sure you watch a video of how to use BEFORE trying it (**hint- fold down the neck before placing to get proper suction). I really wish I had this in the very early days after having my little one...it would be great for engorgement etc. I will be buying this for any baby shower I go to from now on as I think it is completely genius. Super simple to use, NO hassle and great for building a supply!!! I use it strictly when nursing my son on whichever side he is not nursing on. I am 5 weeks pp and this is doing a great job of collecting letdown from the other side while nursing.
It's very comfortable to use – This thing was a LIFE SAVER during my maternity leave! My son started sleeping through the night pretty early on (by 4 weeks), so by the time he would wake up at 5:30am for his first feeding I was SO swollen and full that he would only take one side. This stressed me out so much because I couldn't just leave the other side still full...so I would… Read more
either be crying trying to get him to wake up to eat the other side, or have to hook up the electric breast pump (which I HATED because there were so many parts to clean, and that would be an extra 20 minutes before I could go back to sleep).
The Haakaa saved me for 2 reasons
1) I needed to start a freezer stash for when I returned back to work at 8 weeks and this allowed me to do so without having to pump (the pediatrician suggested pumping AFTER his feedings to build my supply....who has time for that?!?! I would have been literally a milking cow the entire day).
2) It's literally effortless with zero pain and only ONE part that cleaned easily.
I stumbled across this on a blog by accident when I was trying to figure out how to build my freezer stash before returning to work without losing my mind and I will never be more thankful for a product. I would use this for the first 2 feeding of the morning (since you're fullest in the morning) and would have 4-6oz a day to put away in the freezer.
All you have to do is squeeze the base, put on breast you aren't feeding from and release base to get it to suction to your boob. The suction holds it in place. Then have your baby feed from the other side and it will trigger your let down on the side the Haakaa is suctioned to!!!!!!!
Only negatives (but not bad enough to not warrant this a 5 star product) is that if you don't pay attention, it can lose suction and come off (I just kept an eye on it and whenever it started to lose suction I would give it another squeeze to reestablish suction). Second is that is does not fully drain you like an electric pump would, but is enough to relieve you so you can go back to sleep (or for the second morning feeding, my son was usually awake enough that I would let him feed on that side after I used the Haakaa).
Get this....you won't regret it!!!!!

The best item ever – - Comfortable to wear - Hardly noticeable - Would use it mainly in the morning as this is when i would collect the most let down - Super satisfied with the item and the amount of milk it lets me save. These silicone breast pumps are the best and save soo much time pumping for your freezer stash by collecting the let down. I got mine along with… Read more

Haakaa gen 3 - AMAZING – If I had my time again this is the only form of a pump I would have bought. I love the silicone breast pump on its own but the gen 3 comes with a bottle attachment and it's fantastic and so easy. Will be purchasing another Show details
Daughter loves it – Anything that came make a new mum's life easier deserves a top review. This product is exactly as it is described and shipping was fast! I ordered it the week before my granddaughter was born and it arrived while she was in hospital. Thank you Show details

Bottle review – Not a review for the breast pump for for their bottles. Do not buy their bottles if you use thickener in your little ones formula as the holes on the teat do not allow anything to come out, or only 1 hole will allow a flow. I realised this at 3am when the little fella was going off like a bat out of hell. Show details
Dissapointed – I was really looking forward to my haakaa as i was over wasting milk. And in fac tg its great in the aspect that its not going to A breast pad. But i specifically bought the gen 3 for extra suction just to have it come off as soon as going on! Its horrible. I spend so nuch time trying to get it to stick on i lose half of my let down anyways! to mention that if ita tilted slightly it spills everywhere! Im so disappointed i wasted so much money on it
Caused mastitis?! – Brought this "must have " to use while nursing my 3 week old bub.. well last night I wound up in emergency with mastitis. Instead of having a red mark on my skin I have a red ring. Discussed with the doctor how it isn't my hospital breast pump as the flange doesn't sit where the mark is.. thismorning while nursing I yelled out to my partner to… Read more
grab my haakaa for me and as he attached it to my breast he noticed that it infact does match up with the red ring! Now I'm not saying don't use it, it simply didn't work for me.. many, many women sing praises for the Haakaa so they're obviously doing something right. It's also VERY easy for my baby to kick off my breast.. that's super frustrating and a waste of milk. I've heard of other brands having a lanyard that goes around your neck to save kicked off milk catchers.

Can’t live without it – Honestly the best thing I bought for breast feeding. I stopped using my $300 medela straight away as this pumped so much milk for me I needed nothing else!! I recommend this to all my pregnant friends and everyone says it’s a game changer Show details
Convenient, portable & easy to keep clean – What I loved about my Haakaa was it wasn't such a huge process to clean it. I initially started off using a hospital grade pump which just felt like another chore as a first time mum. I hated pumping so I didn't do it. Then a friend of mine told me how awesome this product was and you just attach it to the other side whilst you are breastfeeding!… Read more
I couldn't believe how much milk it was catching and I could do it all at the same time! One less thing for me to have to worry about. The only issue was I didn't find it easy to express with this when not breastfeeding so when my little one was a bit older and I got some spare time back I started using the hospital grade pump again for 10 minutes a day.
Better than Spectra for me – Love my haakaa because - pumps three times as much (140mls) as spectra in 24hrs - able to use passively while breastfeeding - can sleep instead of pumping with spectra - fits my B cups/petite frame easily Show details
Brilliant – This pump has been really great. Easy and comfortable to use, portable so great for travel and really effective...I’m able to pump more than with my electric pump and much quicker and easier. Very easy to wash and sterilise also. Show details
Perfect manual breast pump – This is the best pump. Period. The price, the ease of use... awesome is the word. I use it for expressing or just catch my letdowns. Works like magic. The product itself doesn’t come with a cover - you have to buy it separately but that’s not an issue. Show details
No brainer. Such a time saver – Somebody gave this to me and it’s the best. Just pop in on while you’re feeding the other side and it collects the leakage but also pumps for you building up some handy little milk storage.

Must have! – This product saved my milk supply. It is so handy and efficient. It is great to have attached to the other breast while you feed from one. Used it a lot to help clear blocked ducts without causing over supply issues. Show details
Fantastic product! – This is a great pump to use. It’s so easy. I can usually get a decent amount every time I use it. At first when bub was little I would use it on the side I wasn’t nursing on. Now if I pump I can still use it on the opposite side and it gets a decent amount which makes pumping quicker when needed. Well worth the purchase. Would be great for someone… Read more
who wants to create a freezer stash but dislikes the idea of pumping with an electric pump. A tip I learnt was to fold the flange back and squeeze haakaa and then attach it, that way it will not fall off.
very good product – Haakaa silicone milk catcher. This product is for women with a lot of supply, but also for ladies who just need t catch that extra overflow form second breast! I would use it while breastfeeding both of my kids - breastfeeding on one breast and HAAKAA on the other! I love the HAAKAA with the stand and the lid! I recommend to every single MAMA to be, if they are planning to breastfeed for long time! Show details
Works a dream to save milk – I was originally pumping but was desperate to save breast milk incase we needed it so started using a haaka on the opposite side I was breast feeding on. Wasn’t a huge fan at first but now that I have the hang of breast feeding and can rest baby on a pillow and have free hands, I can support the haaka without worrying it will fall off. I use it a few times enough and end up with enough to store for a bottle if needed (or freeze for future use). Show details
Convenient and so easy to use – I have been using the Haakaa as an alternative to my electric pump. It’s so easy to use. One thing that I’ve learnt to help the let down faster is by getting your baby to feed a small amount on the side you express then apply the Haakaa. I used it when travelling when I was full. It also goes in dishwasher!! Show details
Average – The easiest breast pump I have ever used but I feel like if you don’t have a good let down or good supply it doesn’t work. Would still recommend to give it a go Show details
Better than an electric pump – I used to use this to just catch let down, now I am using it to assist hand pumping. I had limited luck with electric pumps and hated all the cleaning. Only concern is the local milk bank won't accept milk expressed this way as they have had a very high contamination rate. Just be careful with cleaning etc.
Love, love , love my Haakaa! – I am so in love with my Haakaa silicone breast pump! It suction’s to the breast and catches the let down while feeding my daughter on the other side or I have used it to relieve pressure from engorged breasts. I love my Haakaa so much that I bought a second one.
Easy pump – This thing is a miracle! I just had my baby 4 days ago but noticed I was leaking some while nursing her on the other side. Just suctioned this on and continued nursing and I had caught over an ounce just in the time baby girl was nursing other side! Helps collect without having to pump, and that’s worth it for me alone!
Love this thing! – When I first got this, I was afraid my baby would kick it off while he was nursing. But if you have the placement right, the suction is great, so it’s really hard to get knocked off. I usually can get 2-3 Oz while using this. Just be careful when taking this off or setting it down, since this doesn’t have the stopper, it could easily be spilled.… Read more
I’ve knocked mine over once, and it’s so sad when you lose a whole sessions worth! I’m much more careful now with it.
Better than electric pump – Haakaa is amazing! It seriously gets more than my medela and in half the time. Its effortless and discreet with no funny noises. I use my haakaa at work and have been for the past 9 months, being silicone it is very portable and discreet in my handbag or my back pocket.
Awesome and so easy – I put it on the opposite side I am nursing from and it catches the let down and is so easy to use. I can put it on one handed very easily, and usually get about 90 mil in ten minutes from one side! And its so easy to clean! I am in love lol
Perfect for mum's with oversupply! Or sore Nipples – This pump saved me from my FOURTH round of mastitis - since buying it I haven't had it again! As I have oversupply - The suction motion allows you to use it on the other breast whilst feeding! Catching the extra milk meaning after each feed BOTH breasts felt softer. Now I don't have to wait till after a feed to pump! Because there is no back… Read more
and forth 'sucking' motion involved it's perfect for ladies experiencing painful nipple blisters/blebs or grazes (like myself!) as the pump doesn't rub back and for on the nipple due to its still latching properties.
With no handle the pump allows you
to multitask eg burp baby, change bibs, cuddles, change feeding positions etc whilst feeding.
Travel friendly and easy to wash! Highly recommend.
