Great but creates a ton of Ozone! Same machine sells under many names. Neotec, Ion 70 and Surround – So Just clarifying. This is one of the most common machines on the market. under the NEOTEC brand. They cost $35 per filter and are exactly the same size, HEPA 14 carbon backed. Same machine but many names.

Good: This machine is amazing and clearing out the air. It can process an entire large room in a matter of minutes on full power. It is a little noisy on full but lower modes are quiet and AUTO is all but silent.

Pollution detection is marketed to detect 3 types of pollution but this is false. It only has a single mode of detection and does not differentiate between particle or scent. It is very sensitive and detects any changes. Even walking into my room after a shower (I use unscented natural soap), it detects "something" and cleans it. I find it extremely good for pollen and air pollution that cause allergies.

The Bad:

This will surprise you but the machine has several stages of filtration. First is a course plastic mesh. It is totally washable and collects a lot of dust but only if the machine is on full power. On lower power only the lighter particles are sucked into the machine. This filter is washable and clipped onto the electrostatic filter.

The electrostatic filter is a high voltage corregated plate full of holes with several wires running in the corrugations of the plate. It does get dirty and is supposed to be an Ionize... But

Running this machine in a bedroom I noticed a sickly sweet smell. It had me confused because the pollution detector was not showing anything. Then I noticed the smell was only present when the machine was on.

Then it occurred to me - Ozone. After a brief check on the internet I found out that ozone in high concentrations smells sickly sweet. Over the past 4 months my health has declined. Watery eyes, allergies, asthma, difficulty breathing, and oedema. I was blaming all kinds of things. However once I realized it was ozone, I removed the removable electrode contact from one side, isolated the other was some plastic tape, put the machine back together and presto, it works fine. No more bad smell, no more breathing problems allergies or sore eyes. Ozone is highly toxic and it only belongs high in our atmosphere. So be wary of this. Disable the ozone filter if you are sensitive to ozone. It is a corrosive and used to sterilize water as it destroys bacteria.

Anyway, you can disable that filter AND it is completely washable. Careful of the fine wires. You really don't want to break them. Don't lose the metal contact clip that sits on the corrugated plate.

The main filter of this machine is a massive Dimension: 340x280x30mm and it will potentially last many months. You will extend the life if you vacuum the white part of the filter preferably with a vacuum that also has Hepa14 for example a Nilfisk Elite. The filters cost $35 which is far cheaper than the $70 filter in my vacuum cleaner. I change mine when they turn grey and are beyond cleaning. They might also begin to smell esp if you have the filter near where you cook. If you want to use essential oils, turn this filter off because the carbon absorbs them and the pollution filter will go crazy.

The last filter on this is supposedly a bacterial filter. Black light shines on a metal mesh which is also removable and washable. I have worked as a nurse in the TB clinics and we use Black lights along the hallway to kill possible TB contamination in the air. So the black light is of use.

Over all - best value air filter on the market. I have run mine for 6 months now and it took me 4 to realize the same machine had many different brands meaning it is easy to get replacement parts. It is quiet, effective and due to the big fan and large surface are of the filter, can manage a very large room in ten minutes.

Just be careful of the ozone. As I said, you can easily disable this feature and I would not avoid the product based on its ozone creation. You do not need that state filter so like I said - remove the plate terminal (it just slides off. and place some plastic between the other terminal and the body. Fixed.

Almost perfect – Got a used model on ebay and its made a huge difference in my room/ home office. Our house is old so there is probably lots of bad stuff, molds etc in the air, and you can really feel the impact this makes after about 30 minutes. All in all competitive with the more expensive models costing 2-3x its price (Swiss Air etc). The only downside is the plastic feels a bit flimsy, and you sometimes have to push it in to a bit to get it to start.

Great so far! – I've had this air purifier for 2 weeks and it's worked as expected, and my expectations were high. The unit detects when pollutants are in the air and increases filtering fan speed accordingly. The off timer is a handy feature as is the remote control. If you suffer from dust or pollen allergies this air purifier will certainly rid the atmosphere of those and thus alleviate your symptoms.

Then we did some research and bought this machine and I can only tell you my wife felt better within the first day. After the second she was fine. In fact we only use this a few hours a day... normally at night and we find it's more than enough. My wife has been off the pills since we bought it. From my end I find it definitely purifies the odour fantastically when I cook or clean my LP's or puppy does its business. It's fantastic!!! Not one thing is wrong... it works!!!

give the Healthstart Ion-70 a go.The best thing was if I was not completely happy with the product I could return it with in 30 days for a full refund.....this is not going to happen cause I'm keeping it...it works very well. wanted to stay over one night, and changed her mind because of the smell of the house.

After using it for a day in the lounge room, the smell went away. Can't believe it really worked. I read that ozone may be bad for health, but this unit only produces 0.05 ppm which is very low, so should be safe with good ventilate. Can always turn the UV and ion off.

soon as the aircon was on, the pollution sensor on the ION-70 went to max. Very handy! It removes dust and allergens from the air. It has a pollution level sensor and it will adjust according to the level of dust in the air. Has a HEPA filter. Even gets rid of smells like cigarette smoke and BO. I considered the Blue Air and the Russell Hobbs Mountain Breeze but this one was the best value for the price range and it has 9 stages of filtration. Nothing, it's a great unit. I wish I had one in every room.

Terrible – We expected this unit to help with my allergies, but it was quite disappointing that it didn't make any difference with it on or off. The function I was after most was allergen reduction, and visible effects on my allergies...maybe to much to hope for in a small appliance!
