Herman Miller Aeron

Like Sitting On A Cloud – Bought the Aeron for Work. It was expensive but it is so worth it. The first day it arrived it was firm and uncomfortable for me but now I have fallen in love with it. It is comfortable and adjustable. Do not buy a cheaper chair and regret it, if you are going to pay the money get what you are after. Show details
Great chair if you use a correct posture – I bought this chair for my home office. It gets many hours of use. For the most part I don't get any back pain anymore. Unless I'm forced to use a different chair in the office. One thing to note is that this chair works best if you sit in it with proper posture. For example, you can't sit on this chair cross legged because of the mesh. It could… Read more
be an issue for some people. It almost forces you to sit with the correct posture.
Expensive. Can't deny that. But with the 12 year warranty, it will pay for itself over time. -1 star because it feels it the price includes a bit of a brand premium.
No replacement parts?......still no responses from Herman – After 7 years the bottom failed. Have been given the run around by every Hermann contact to buy a replacement part. Better value from office works. Very bad product support.
Expensive and exacerbated neck and shoulder pain – This chair is wildly expensive for what it is, which is a poorly designed task chair at best. It forces you to sit in a very unnatural position and gives no upper back support. My neck and shoulder pain has been exacerbated as a result. Show details
Take care with this chair – Having read all the positive reviews about the Herman Miller Aeron - Remastered chair I purchased one about six weeks ago. Nothing but frustration, discomfort, and sore back since. The major problem for me lies with the so-called Posturefit device. What is not disclosed by the Australian retailers (referenced on the Herman Miller website) nor… Read more
clearly by the manufacturer is that there are posture options available for this chair. One is the supplied Posturefit, and the other is a lumbar support. After viewing the manufacturer’s video and user booklet it appeared to me that there is a lumber support with height adjustment. In explaining adjustments for posture there was no disclosure that each section applied to a relevant fitted option.
The Posturefit is not a lumber support but a sacrum support with no vertical adjustment to suit individual differences. For me, any attempt to ‘engage’ the Posturefit quickly produced considerable back pain. In essence, the body is thrown forward when sitting in accordance with the user instructions, the sacrum is held in place, and with a straight back you are looking at the desk / keyboard. Looking straight ahead at a monitor involves trying to curve the upper spine backwards.
With the Posturefit backed off entirely I am able to sit in the chair but it is not comfortable and still involves unnatural backward curvature of the spine. When the Posturefit is backed off the upper pad falls off as well
Sitting in the chair is bearable if I use a pool noodle split in half as a lumber support jammed into the Posturefit torture device. Still working on a solution to this as there are signs the chair might work with a lumbar support in the correct position. Neither the manufacturer nor the Australian retailers offer the lumber support as a separate item on their web sites.
There is no reference in the supplied materials or on web sites about how to obtain warranty support or spare parts in Australia. I suspect it is non-existent despite the so-called 12-year, 3-shift warranty in the sales blurb. I did find one company that says it repairs these chairs.
Another unpleasant surprise when the chair arrived was to find that the supplied wheels are for use on carpet only. Only one of the Australian retailers appears to mention and offer the option of hard-floor casters. Again, the manufacturer’s web site is so full of marketing nonsense it is difficult to determine that there are options for wheels. Dig deeply on the manufacturer’s web site and you will find a good ‘tool’ with which to choose options. I found this when it was too late.
Be aware there are also size options (these were set out reasonably clearly on the retailer’s web sites). Much is said on the web sites about style options and their prices.
I found that sitting on this chair in shorts produced a rash under my thighs. The problem is resolved by sitting on a towel.
If your desk is a little higher than normal, you may find the lift mechanism is not high enough. I have the chair in the highest position at what seems to be a normal height desk.
Otherwise, the chair adjustments work smoothly and it appears to be solidly constructed and likely to last a reasonable time.
This chair may work for some people with backs in good condition, but not for me with (usually) minor back pain. In the meantime, back to my 20+ year old ‘typists’ chair from a discount office furniture seller.
Nice but not nearly as functional/comfortable as cheaper models – I've tested this chair, but it has a major fault; you can't set the seat's angles to your preferences and lock it there. I have an old $400 office chair which is up for replacement, sadly; that one I can set to any angle within (wide) limits and lock it in. Now *that* is comfortable on the long run. This one, however, was not. Show details
Fantastic chair but overpriced – My office recently purchased some of these chairs and there probably the best office chair I've ever used! However these chairs are completely overpriced for anyone looking to purchase a chair for personal use. However if your office offers to purchase one for you I would recommend that you take up their offer.
Very happy with my purchase – After reading the reviews on this website, I bought 3 of them for our company, from Ebay @ $700 each. These are real deal when it comes to sitting at a pc monitor all day. Their wider, comfortable and seem to move and support you as you swivel, slouch and sit up right. Can't think of a better chair.
Engineered for sitting – Read the design goals, and know they have surpassed them with this chair. These are known as the "dot-com" chairs, as most up and coming tech companies buy them for their employees. Many think this is a waste of money, but think how much productivity is gained by employees being able to sit and work for 12+ hours! I am in my first job in 15… Read more
years without an Aeron chair being provided, and have asked for one. Will be buying one myself if they don't provide it, as I have a back injury from years ago. Try one of these chairs out and believe the hype. I'm willing to back my 5 star rating with my own money! Extremely adjustable for every body shape (3 different sizes to order), really allows you to sit in it all day! I've seen a few over the years with the up/down component broken.
Excellent – These are the chairs that were supplied to staff in a call centre I used to work in. They are amazing, the webbing really supports your butt and back without any bits digging in. I love that you can easily adjust the chair so you can rock or lean back in it if you want to, take the arms off or move them up and down, in and out. The best chair… Read more
ever! The most comfortable office chair you'll ever sit in. you can sit in it all day without any sore backs/butts etc. Dr House has one in the TV show House, so it must be cool! Super duper expensive (but totally worth it if you work in an office that will buy it for you!)
Excellent – I work from home and bought my Aeron around six years ago after I was leant one to try out. I have a bad back as a result of a car accident many years ago, and the Aeron is easily the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in. The mesh seat and back provide ventilation which is a bonus in warm weather. I went for the polished aluminium finish… Read more
which, although an expensive option, looks massively classy. If you need to send a lot of time sitting this is THE MOST COMFORTABLE chair you could buy. Super comfortable, super stylish ... it is love
Excellent – These are the chairs we use at work. This is the most comfortable office chair i have ever sat on. If i could afford $6000 to buy one, or even $525 for a second hand one from ebay i would totally go for it. I have never gotten a sore back or a sore anything from sitting my butt on this ALL DAY long. It's perfect. I really can't fault it. They are… Read more
impossible to break. Super comfortable. Almost impossible to break. Best chair in the world Expensive, may even be worth more than your second hand car
