Wouldn't recommend – Bought the vehicle in mid 2017 with a host of extras notching the car up to $62k. Went well and was enjoying the truck problem free for close to 12months then the problems began. Infotainment system would change between apps with no driver input. Holden diagnosed the unit to be faulty and replaced it. Very quickly after this I took the off-road… Read more

close to my home, super mellow track. The 4x4 system had difficulty in climbing up a small rutted incline. So much so that the vehicle came began making some horrific noises and the system just wouldn't engage, I had to roll in neutral out of the rut. Holden diagnosed the problem as the 4x4 system needed re-setting? Driving to quote a job on the Gold Coast with my surfboard between the two drivers seats as the rear tub was full of tools and the maps function on the infotainment system once again started to flip between apps. Trying to stop the issue while driving meant I was wasn't watching the road and almost ran up the rear of someone, really dangerous! Holden found that unit to be faulty as well. Shortly after this a rattling started, a DPF bracket had snapped. Shortly again after this a strong vibration started, Holden diagnosed that it might be a torque converter issue. They had the vehicle for 3 days, I picked it up and was informed the transmission fluid was low and needed toppling up, the same dealership had serviced the vehicle 3000km's earlier? The vibration had stopped but soon started again about 3 weeks later. This tie it was the torque converter and again the vehicle was needed for 3 days. Shortly after this I had faulty window electrics, I would bring the window down only for them to straight back up again, this would go on for a while until I pulled over, turned the car off and re-started it. Things levelled out for a while after this put then during a lot of rain I noticed dropping coming from the drivers side pillar. A couple of days later the rain was really heavy and the dripping and become significant as well as starting on the passenger side. They found it to be the aerial wasn't sealed properly? To find this out they needed the car for a day, pulled the entire roof lining out and found the problem. The car was still needed for 2 days more so that Holden remove the carpet and have dried out. After this I've had failing headlight electrics, rain sensor issues, faded wiper cal plastics, and now A transmission and differential issue which causes the vehicle to thud into gear on acceleration. A holden mechanic also on driving the vehicle to diagnose the problem also mentioned it feels like a wheel bearing might be faulty. A really poor quality vehicle totally unfit for any purpose advertised. Terrible customer service and after purchase care for a top of Holden line-up vehicle in the 4x4 pick-up sector.

Loved it so much we bought 2!! – We purchased a 2016 LTZ, we found the car so reliable, we owned it 4 years and never had a problem. It towed our large caravan like it wasn’t there. We have now upgraded to the 2020 LTZ and are loving the additional features and cosmetic improvements. Show details

2014 LTZ auto Very reliable heavy tow vehicle – Bought our 2014 LTZ auto brand new. This is a pre DPF vehicle. 156000k about 40% of its life is spent heavy towing. Either our Basestation tare 2350kg a boat Tare 2700kg or a tandem often with a car on it. So several laps plus other and farm work. Rarely used off road. The vehicle has a great reliable engine and the best transmission for towing I… Read more

have used. Much better than my old cruiser as tow vehicle and half the fuel consumption. Engine oil changed ever 7000 to 8000k Auto fluid changed every 70k. Servicing completed by both myself and Holdens. Turbo hoses front brake disks bushes and other minor parts replaced. Don't like Bringo but everything still works and is original. I wonder about replacing it with Holden closing but find it hard to identify a good replacement. And I like driving it. The engine with its forged internals is very good indeed. Don't care about noise it's the same colour as my tractor! And for a truck it's quiet. Around 8.5 to 9 litres per 100 country driving around 16 litres per hundred towing Basestation.

Stooged from the very beginning, faulty from top to very bottom – Was happy knowing that I was purchasing not only a brand new supposedly RELIABLE vehicle, but my very first 4 wheel drive, only to have realised I've purchased an unsafe, unreliable, too many issues to list, lemon on wheels. Only after purchasing a brand new 2017 Ltz Colorado, I noticed issues with it within days of having it. Complained to… Read more

dealership only to be given in my opinion, answers which I do not know what to make of.

Windscreen has imperfections. APPARENTLY dust or whatever have been laminated in between the sheets of glass of the windscreen. During the days isn't noticeable but at night it's like a constellation of stars all over my windscreen extremely distracting from sunset onwards. A mate of mine compared it to chips on the windscreen but on the outside you can't feel the bumps if they were. Until I was told there were ways you can hide or cover them up. Hail or road chips is what I was told could have been the cause, but I don't want to speculate.

Driving it was too unsafe to the point I rarely have my family in there, and I've had to drive in the slow lane and avoided overtaking. Upon applying my foot to the gas pedal, the vehicle doesn't move straight away only after a few seconds then it jolts. EXTREMELY dangerous especially on the freeway and peak hour traffic. The excuse I was given from the service department of the dealership is that the car is still learning my driving patterns.??. My wife won't drive it after one incident where to get her use to the vehicle, she drove one night. Upon pulling out to take off, she freaked out that the vehicle didn't respond when she put her foot down to go. Then freaked out when cars from behind starting approach really fast. The whole family was in the car that night.

The ride is EXTREMELY rough. The inside of the cab has alot of vibration, which I know is common in utes but the vibrations in my vehicle is extremely bad to the point back seat passengers have commented on its roughness and vibration. The vibrations can also be felt on the steering wheel itself and I'm constantly having to stretch my forearms at stops such as red lights. I drive alot for work. So constantly on main roads or the freeway. Something which the service department have stated is normal.??.

Brakes are like a sponge. I'm totally scared I may not come to a complete stop if I drive too fast. When applying pressure to the brakes it's like standing on a half wet sponge that just soaks your foot in.

Doors seem like they are already starting to drop. Upon opening the doors you can feel and hear the difference as compared to my mates newly purchased 1 month old 2017 triton sport edition. His doors close on the first go and feel right when opening and closing, as opposed to my doors which I believe are either dropping or haven't been fixed on right. Closing the doors, if you don't slam it shut with force they will only half shut. I bought this vehicle abit over a month ago and doors are already out of whack??.

So upon advising the dealership of my issues, their reply was..... "let's see what we can do to help you with your problem". My response was "I brought a brand new car. This issue resides with you guys who gifted me with a car with issues."

There are more issues to list, but I think you all get the point. So today I've taken my vehicle in for its 1 month service and I specifically asked for the loaner car to be the exact model as mine, so I for 1, can compare both vehicles which I shouldn't have to as I'm pretty sure I was entitles to a reliable new car as that is what I bought. The loaner car Has no take off issues, Has perfect brakes that work upon applying your foot, Has a perfect windscreen, doors are perfectly aligned or no issues and I'm not game enough to switch over and try the 4h as I'm scared in case there's an issue with it, and I don't want to be liable for it. I then called the sales person whom sold the car to me and I once again voiced my concerns again, comparing the loaner to my vehicle and that there was something so terrible wrong and UNSAFE about the vehicle he sold me. His response was what I wanted to do? I was so lost for words as I am now so I just said thanks hung up and have now decided to take legal action thru consumer affairs / ombudsman. One things for sure, I'm either getting my money back, OR getting a brand new vehicle cause I didn't pay for an unsafe unreliable vehicle which in a few years time is gonna cost me more after the warranty runs out not to mention too unsafe for my family.

I just wish they sold the loaner car to me instead of the one they gifted me with. So annoyed!

UPDATE Windscreens changed and the delay with the take off has been slightly fixed. The sales rep said the service department took my vehicle for a drive and that there was nothing wrong with it yet the service chick at the desk stated they fixed the issue. They need to get their story straight. Still a heap of vibration which is evident when looking thru the rear view mirror. The view of cars behind is like looking at fuzzy images. Service department technician said that 4h is only driveable on dirt roads not bitumen, yet the sales rep told me on the day of purchase you can drive 4h on anywhere and at any speed. Colorado's in my view ARE GOOD CARS. Yet I was sold a freaking dud. Impeccable service from where I bought my vehicle is all I'm gonna say.

2nd UPDATE Checked a few days ago, windscreen hasn't been replaced as they said they would. They've either tried to fix it some how and it hasn't worked Or just haven't replaced it at all thinking I wouldn't have picked up on it. Now I'm truly screwed! Both letters written to Holden head office and to accc/ombudsman, I'm not dealing with them no more. Good luck all with your purchases, this will be my last entry abt this whole shenanigans. I'm off to Toyota and their reliable product once I get my money back.

3rd update. 2yrs later and after threatening to go to consumers affair have they only decided to fix only a few issues. Yet many more issues have occurred since owning this Lemon. - Window screen that was replaced now leaks. There was always a constant wet smell after heavy rain. I just thought it was just the surroundings of where it was parked until lately I noticed 2 trails of water on the windscreen on drivers side. Excuse given was the contractor that Holden uses has accepted blame and will fix it. - Rear view mirror which I have been complaining abt since the beginning of ownership has now been fixed. Where as before their reply was "is normal to vibrate". I was constantly told by one service attendant, "it's the way you're driving the vehicle." - Front windows get stuck every now and then on remote lock. When I woke up next morning my drivers side window was still down and interior was wet due to light rain from the night before. - Drivers side window replaced. When I rang the dealership in regards to left side passenger window making noise I was told its normal. So they told me to bring it in. Upon pick up, passenger window seemed fine and they claimed they oiled it. Yet my drivers side window started play up every now and then. Few days after that driver side window stopped working while I was at work. Left work to babysit vehicle abt midday which was parked in a shopping strip known for its car break ins and theft. Called Holden and a specialist came to fix vehicle. Holden personal told me they were surprised cause its only been 1yr, so too did the technician who fixed my driver side window. - Brushes in rear suspension needed changing. Brand new car yet when I initially enquired I was told something silly. Asked my nephew who works in Holden abt it and he said they should last abt 70 to 90kms under heavy weight. I've only done 38,000km and I only have a few tools in the tub. Never have I had or rarely do I have more than 200kilos (and that's been generous) in the back nor have I towed anything as I don't have a tow ball. They replaced it on the 21st of Feb 2019 after my consumers affair rant. - I paid for a wheel alignment yet when I picked up the car it still pulls to the left and shutters when coming to a stop all the time. When I queried whether they performed one or not, I was told I mustn't have given the right information in regards to which direction its pulling. Wheel alignment it shouldn't matter which direction cause once they do one it should fix the issues. I was hoping the alignment would help to resolve a few other issues with the ute in regards to suspension, alignment and braking. My wife's cousin who is a Diesal mechanic confirmed suspension issues or wheel alignment. Honestly, the car feels different, but after 2yrs of been denied? Another Safety health issue right there. When I picked it up they said they didn't need to touch it cause they did perform an alignment first time around. Yeah right, something was fixed. But it's my word against theirs. - I had a blown driver side headlight which I didn't asked to be fixed yet they fixed it without asking and I got charged for it which is fair. I have 3 mechanics in the family, 2 who work with Holden and one from another company. One of them offered to fix it for me for free, yet Holden decided to offer their services without asking and charged me $38 for it. Fair enough. How abt fixing the full car. - Car beeps after remote lock ALWAYS. According to dealership is a common problem with Colorado's and Holden is addressing the situation, but I told them it only started happening since they touched my window. They told me on my last visit with them it never did beep since they had it under their care. So I've taken videos of my vehicle since I picked it up on every time I go to lock it. Video can be found on YouTube as I've uploaded it. Links below..

Colin the Colorado – I bought this vehicle in 2009 and must admit to being a little apprehensive. I have owned 4x4s before but never a dual cab. I so glad I did as this the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It never complains, it’s just point and shoot and it works every time. After 257,000 klms it’s still as strong as it was the day I drove it out of the… Read more

Engine vibrates heavily always; fix 1 = replace tyres ???. fix 2 = replace front wheel bearings ???. fix 3 = that's the way they were built, tough !!!!. Go away and live with it as we (GMH) are not going to do anything about it !!! Interestingly GMH have replaced a large number of engines under wty.  Show details

Paint coming off!! Beware! – My 2014 Colorado has about 13,000 kms on it. It has spent its life either garaged or in a covered spot. The vehicle is immaculate inside and out, and driven only occasionally. Recently, I noticed to my horror, that… Read more

the paint on the roof (and only the roof) is disintegrating. I took it to my Holden dealer in Perth, and they told me that there is nothing that can be done as the vehicle is one year out of warranty. I contacted Holden Customer Care and got the same abrupt response. I took it to a paint and panel shop to get a quote on repainting it. The owner was astounded that Holden would not stand behind its product. I have owned nine Holden products, including three Colorados. I also have a new SV6 'Black' edition in my driveway. This will be the last Holden product I ever buy. No wonder Holden is losing customers. They just don't seem to care about their regulars, and won't stand behind their products. Ford Ranger - here I come!

Love my colly – We purchased our Colorado as a tow vehicle and to be able to get away camping. The car is comfortable and is pleasant to drive. Tows our caravan extremely well both on the bitumen and the gravel. Like the hill start assist as well as the graded braking. The audio system it very good and easy to navigate the controls. Fuel usage is good at around 8-9 L/ 100KM unladen to around 14L / 100KM toing the van and the tray loaded.  Show details

Oil consumption – This is an update on my ongoing problem just had another service and they still want to do another test after 49000ks.This is what I have discovered, now according to their manual the engine has a 5.7litre oil capacity, myfirst time I topped up my oil I put approximatly 1.7ltrs before 22000ks so they changed the dipstick and put a 40 grade oil now… Read more

the reason why they changed the dipstick is because they put 7ltrs of oil instead of 5.7 to make sure that you don't run out of oil and when you go back for the consumption check it will always be inspeck because they overfill by 250approx so on your first check it will be on the correct level the second check will be only250ml the 3rd approximatly 750ml which brings you to one ltr over 9000ks now they will put 1ltr in which will raise the viscosity up slightly and by the time you get to the 15000ksit will take about 500ml which they say is within specifications now if you were to just to drive the car for the full 15000ks without topping up I guarantee you will be using nearly a litre or more extra there are people who have had their engine visibility changed because they are driving with a loaded car which puts extra load on the engine so now I have come to the conclusion that whatever I or anyone does is in vain because of their deception you have no chance of warranty to prove my point go and check out the new LDV it has the same engine with dipstick in a different position and the engine has a 7ltr oil capacity.I will never buy or deal with Holden again.

Oil Consumption Issue – Oil consumption question/comment.... I see there are multiple people concerned about oil consumption of their 2014 to 2015 Holden Colorados. I have a July 2014 RG II. I asked the question over a year ago as to the amount of oil required to top up based on how far the dipstick reading is below the full mark. (Not in owners manual) Hatched area… Read more ·  3

pretty much seems to be one litre based on my top ups. I have vigilantly recorded distance and top up requirements to over 80 000kms now. It is hard to say what consumption was like for the first 45 000km compared to subsequent usage as the dealer appears to have changed the dipstick as per a Holden directive at this time. All I can say is that it did not need topping up during the first 45 000 but was getting close to the bottom marking prior to going in for each service. The manual recommends checking oil level with engine warm approx. 10min after shutdown. I have found this to vary up or down by 5mm day by day even when parked in exactly the same position in my garage. I therefore check after overnight cool down and found this extremely reproducible and roughly 3mm higher reading than doing it with engine warm. By 13 000km post 45 000 km service, the dipstick was only 5mm above bottom of hatched area. I contacted my dealer from whom I purchased vehicle and had services performed to ask which actual Dexos 2 oil they used so I could purchase same for top up. Three requests in 2 weeks were completely ignored. I went to a closer dealer and bought AC Delco Dexos 2 as recommended in owners manual and topped it up. Consumption for that 15 000 km would have been pretty much 900 to 1000mls. (60 000km at this point and service manager seemed incapable of telling which oil they use but that it was not GM linked AC Delco Dexos 2 that is the recommended but they do sell that in their spart parts area ) For the next 15 000km top ups totalled 1450mls to keep exactly at the full mark. Which brings me to my main point. I decided to buy my own AC Delco Dexos 2 for the 75 000km dealer service. It works out to less than $70 for the 5.7 litres or so required and I saved $102 from the service cost! The Colorado has done 4500km since last service and is down less than 2mm from post service level check. It is not exactly proof, but I suspect dealer uses much cheaper oil that presumably (hopefully) barely reaches Dexos 2 requirements as it appears my Colorados oil consumption is dramatically less. I will repost when I am closes to its next service at 90 000 km but I hope this is a potential solution for those who are experiencing this issue.

Power and Economy are outstanding so it hard to believe there is a significant issue with the motor.

looked at other brands.

Update 5/12/17

1 have now travel 20,000 km and I’ve gotten use to the noise and vibration..( I turn the radio up ) on my trip around Australia it performed very well, good cruising speed on long roads. At 100 Kph I got 7.8 km .. at 120 kph I got 10.3 kph at 150 kph if I went the fast I probably would of got 15.7 .. but of coarse I stuck to the speed limit...

Overall it’s a good car and had performed real well .., it’s only the little things that annoy me like ... windows come down when opening the doors , no cup holder for my morning coffee, reverse camera poor , front sensor work at stupid times and not work when needed ...

I probably would give it a extra half star because it did well , but I still maintain it’s not as good as the 2014 model....

I still check out the other brands ... good luck

A good truck for the money – Purchased an LTZ Demo model from Youngs Holden due to excellent service on another car (Holden Cruze Diesel purchased elsewhere) from the service department. There is a saying in the dealer service departments that the salesman sells you your first car but the service department sells you the next one. The sales department were a bit "old school"… Read more

(this is not a compliment) but my purchase was well researched and I purchased based on price and a good run from the service department. They managed to stuff up the vehicle transfer after keeping me waiting for 2 hours when I picked the car up (with a $40,000 check in my hand). Again I nearly walked out and made them come to me to get their money and deliver the car. But this is not a review of the dealer sales team.

Anyway, to the ownership experience.

I have about 28,000km on the clock now without a hitch of any kind.

Fuel economy is excellent for the size of the vehicle.

I use around 7.8 Litres per 100km driving the 35km each way from the hills east of Perth to Kewdale every day. If I do a lot of freeway driving down on the flats that drops to 7.6 liters per 100km. Driving Perth to Geraldton at 110kmh will use about 8.1 litres per 100Km

The vehicle came with a Harrop ECU upgrade (Youngs are the WA agent for Harrop). There is way less turbo lag than the standard Colorado and it will smoke the back tyres without a problem if you are too heavy on the throttle. Open road passing acceleration is also quite a bit better also. Having said that I usually accelerate gently and drive smoothly as I enjoy seeing the good fuel economy figures

The 6 speed auto transmission is OK but not brilliant. It flares just slightly on changes at some throttle openings and clunks if you come off the throttle during an upshift. Traveling Greenmount every day it behaves well and doesn't hunt up and down on the hill like some other autos I have owned.

As others have said the MyLink system is a bit of a dud when compared to the competition. The radio works fine and it pairs with my Samsung phone without a problem. Bluetooth answering of phone calls is easy and calls are clear. The phone book is a bit of a pain to use but no real problem.

The reversing camera is not the clearest but not the worst I have seen. It is brilliant for hooking up a trailer.

I paid the $80 for Bringo Maps app for my phone and it works OK once you get it going but you could have been half way to your destination using Google Maps on your phone by the time you get Bringo to connect and find the address you are going to.The actual navigation by Bringo seems pretty good when I have used it but I don't usually bother.

The other apps are just streaming radio that you could play through your phone via bluetooth. Seem like a waste of time gimmick to me.

The interior has been robust so far with nothing breaking, rattling loose or falling off.

Door pockets are a bit small but do the job.

Aircon works well on hot days. Dash is informative with lots of functions available on the monochrome LCD display but I usually have mine showing the digital speedo or instant l/100km.

The biggest down side for the interior is no reach adjustment on the steering column. I am long legged for my height so the steering wheel is a little too far away on a long trip. People with long bodies and short legs shouldn't have this problem.

The seats are a bit on the hard side and the base cushion has no angle adjustment. The base tilts forward as you raise it which takes away your thigh support if you are long legged. I guess they have to do this so short people can reach the pedals with the seat raised so they can see over the dash. Power Drivers seat is nice as you can adjust it on the go to exactly how you like it.

The steering is well weighted for the size of the truck but it is a truck and drives like a truck.

I went for the 2016 model over the 2017 because it is the last model without a Diesel Particulate Filter.

I have had extensive experience with DPFs in a fleet of trucks and they have all been expensive.

A DPF will ruin your fuel economy and eventually cost a fortune to replace or delete.

I have only had it off the road a couple of times but it performed well. I did manage to start getting bogged on the beach once but a helpful passer by in another Colorado discovered that I had somehow turned the 4 wheel Drive switch back to 2 Wheel Drive. Switched back to 4WD and drove off with a red face.

The VW Amarok and the Ford Ranger I test drove were nicer to drive but the Amarok was gutless and both were about 10K more. I couldn't see the value.

I also passed on the Ford Ranger as they do not have a self priming oil pump so if your mechanic drains the oil and does not refill it within a couple of minutes the engine will have no oil pressure when it starts.

awsome – we have a 2016 lt trailblazer and a 2017 ltz ute and have had no issues at all nothing .fuel economy is around 8 ltr per 100 km so not bad considering the amount of grunt and tourqe they put out.another thing is we have never seen the dpf light come on as if it dosent have one.ride and comfort are good even when towing a camp trailer overall they are a good truck and would buy another in a few years  Show details

MyLink disappointing – The mylink system, very short on performance and would be embarrassing for the GM sales team to flog. No maps unless you pay ongoing licence. Fails to play videos, old codes that the services guys are puzzled to how they can update. Doesnt pick up on my phones in USB mode. Cannot update the program level of the head unit. Service person… Read more

answer.... is to replace the unit @ $1800.

My solution, took mylink to the dump and replaced with a Melb android head unit for $800, Has all the whistles and bells, even has 4wd maps included, plug and play install.

My friend was given a colorado for the weekend, after talking with me he got another brand, he is very happy.

Long time holden supporter... must rethink next time!

Disgusting and disapointed – My holden colorado 7 2015 is a total rubbish. Its been spending more time at the dealer for repairs than being on the road. Had air con failure compressor had a catastrophic failure and clogged the whole system and holden took 3 months to get it fixed finally but didnt last every long air con stopped working again after 3 weeks. Gone back to the dealer for another round of diagnostic and few more weeks of rebuilt. Shame on you holden.  Show details

Absolutely agree! – GPS (Bringo) infotainment system is rubbish and why, when I purchase a top of the range Trailblazer, do I get an infotainment system with no GPS, unless I pay ongoing licence charges. I refuse. All I have is a very expensive car radio. Holden support have no answers. My next purchase will NOT be Holden.  Show details

Over rated towing capacity – Try a hill start with 3.5t trailer. Impossible without riding the clutch the whole way. I drive semi trailers, truck and dogs for over 20 years without any problems (road ranger gearbox's). Colorado has a bucket load of turbo lag, on hill starts you try and hold about 1000revs while letting clutch out, revs drop below 900 and stalls. Try and… Read more

give it a bit more juice while letting clutch out, turbo spools up and your bouncing between 2000 - 3000 revs

Taking off on flat road is not as bad but still not an easy task. Once underway it is good.

Would not recommend towing anything over 1t on a daily basis.

Ute has done 36000 Klm and have just noticed.

CV boot on passenger side completely split.

Put your foot on it empty and wait at least 3 seconds for turbo to spool.

Engine starting problems – I purchased a new LTZ crew cab in December 2012, a few days after i was on my way back to Sydney from the Central coast via the Berowra Ferry. The vehicle failed to start when trying to exist the Ferry, the engine would crank over but not start, the vehicle had to be manually pushed to one outside lane on the ferry. I tried on numerous times to… Read more

start the vehicle but each time the engine would crank over but not start.

Called NRMA and after waiting over two hours and crossing the the river about 10 times the engine finally started and i went straight back to the dealer.

The dealer had the vehicle for 3 to 4 days and could not identify the problem so i picked up the vehicle.

A week later parked at Sydney Airport it would not start and again NRMA were called and due to the location of the vehicle in the multilevel car park it had to be towed by another NRMA person down to the bottom level so it could be towed back to the dealer.

The vehicle finally started when being loaded onto the tow truck but it was taken back to the dealer.

Again after a few days at the dealer, no problem identified so i picked it up again.

The next day it would not start again so towed back to the dealer and they had it for about 3 weeks.

Finally the diagnosis was that there was an electrical harness between the two fuel pumps that had an intermittent fault in one of the connections, this was repaired.

During all this time (3 months) i had been in touch with Holden Customer Care which i must say was most frustrating and after pushing the issue of the vehicle with them and my lack of confidence with the vehicle they agreed that if the engine failed to start for the same reason they would replace the vehicle.

All good for the next 3 years and it started again last September, the engine would crank over and initially would start after 10 to fifteen attempts.

Back to the dealer again as i had taken out the extended warranty.

the dealer could not find the problem and no codes when scanned.

Three times before Christmas the same problem occurred, each time it started after some time and was taken back to the dealer.

No identifiable problem found.

Three weeks ago again it failed to start and would not start so NRMA called and vehicle towed back to the dealer. Scan codes indicated incorrect key and parking brake light input.

Dealer upgraded some firmware and made some other adjustments.

A few days later engine stopped in peak traffic and fault indicated low oil pressure, engine started again after a couple of attempts and the oil checked, added one litre and back to the dealer again, no real fix just checked over.

Last week the vehicle was in and underground car park and when reversing out of the parking bay the engine stopped and the alarm message was low fuel pressure.

Luckily it started after a couple of attempts and i was able to move it out into the open and check what was going on. i had turned the engine off to check the engine bay for anything obvious.

Would not start again at all and called the NRMA tow truck and back to the dealer.

Had to find my own way home as there were no courtesy cars available, this was difficult as i lived some distance from the dealer and had to get a cab home.

The next day the dealer rang to tell me they had found the problem which was the low pressure fuel pump in the tank was drawing excessive current causing the earth cable to slowly burn out and that had been the problem and it was going to cost me $2,200 for the repair as it included a new fuel pump and wiring repairs.

I don't quite understand this diagnosis and i am a electrical / mechanical engineer and i would have thought that if an item such as a fuel pump was drawing excessive current a circuit breaker or fuse would protect the power supply wiring, not burn out the earth cable.

The earth cable connection may have been a high resistance connection which would also account for it slowly burning out and if so that is a design or manufacturing problem.

I suspect this earth cable has been the long term problem but can't prove it and had to pay the $2,200.

I raised the issue of the extended warranty i had and that the recurring starting problems started before the expiry of the extended warranty period.

This was rejected by the dealer because i was supposed to have all service carried out by the dealer in accordance with the conditions of the policy. I had had my vehicle serviced by a very reputable service agent but that was not accepted, so be aware of extended warranty policies and make sure you understand the conditions of warranty.

I've had the vehicle back for a week now and so far no starting problems.p, not really confident with the vehicle but at this time i can;t afford to replace it and i think I got a lemon.

One thing i must say is that the dealers customers service advisers have been most helpful to me throughout this entire experience.

Unhappy – When compared to my old 1984 Landcruiser, this 2016 LTZ Colorado is more than a little disappointing. When driving this auto as a manual or in auto you find that the transmission slips and slides which my local dealer has no answer for. I am getting a little old now for crawling under cars so has put my own hoist in.I tell you this because during… Read more

my younger years I was a mechanic and have serviced more makes and more vehicles than I care to remember. When you take your vehicle in for its 15,000 ks service it will cost $340. For that you basically get just an oil and filter change. That's far too much for any vehicle including Rolls Royce's that I had done. The rest of the service is just a visual check which is something most people can do for themselves.Power, handling and comfort are better than my old cruiser but you would expect that.

With all the negative comments I have read I am just waiting for more things to happen.

I am sure I will be back here with either good or bad things to say in the future.

Oil Consumption Issue Colorado 2014 – It's now well known that the 2014 Colorado's are using way too much oil. My 2014 LTZ ute has now had 6 oil consumption tests. Two of which, I was not made aware of (those two passed as I was topping up every week). My ute was using 2 or more litres of engine oil every 3,000 km's from day one (brand new). Suddenly, at the 6th oil consumption test,… Read more

it stop blowing smoke and using oil. When I asked why, not one person from Holden could explain.

Maybe it's finally "run-in" at 90,000 kms.

Anyhow, I'm now on the 7th oil consumption test and it's blowing smoke and burning oil again. Holden now tell me that records of my oil consumption tests are not on computer and they will have to look for the documents. Obviously, my 20 year affiliation with Holden is now over and I intend to go legal on this matter.

Pretty disappointed – This is compared to my old 1984 Toyota Landcruiser Sahara which was sold to help towards this. The Toyota effectionately known as SUZZIE wasn't in the same league as far as handling and performance as it did not have turbo and only had leaf springs. This is where things stop as the interior of the Colorado effectionately called COLLIE has no… Read more

place to fit a CB radio, no comparison for storing things, a stupid place to have a USB stick point situated in the bottom of the centre console, drivers sitting position is not suited for tall people with the steering wheel too far away in relationship to the leg room. Your arms get tired reaching forward. Glove boxes are smaller than SUZZIE. Centre console is inadequate.

Driving the COLLIE which is an auto is more expensive to run if you don't drive it like a manual. For instance: when towing or not the auto only changes when it feels like it. Driving in auto at 78 kph it will stay in 5th whilst driving as a manual you can have it up shift to 6th hence giving you some 500 revs less which then equates to less fuel being used. This is even worse when towing a heavy load.

Towing comparisons between COLLIE and SUZZIE are soooo different as the Toyota is far too underpowered and left for dead by the Colorado. IF working on COLLIE under the bonnet you happen to drop a spanner between the bonnet clip and the Bull Bar it's gone to god as you just can't get to it so hopefully it doesn't come out while driving at 110 kph with a car up your rear and finds itself logged in the head of the rear driver. OOPS.

There is a lot more to say but I've had enough for now so I hope this is what you wanted to know.

Cheers Laurie

Brake Fluid loss – I can't understand why the brake fluid has dropped to minimun level after about 2000 k's. I checked the rear brake lines but there is no sign of leakage. There is a round oily mark about 100mm on the spare wheel. In April the fluid level was low and then was at maximum level when it came back from the dealer but no explanation as to why.  Show details
