Holman Automatic Digital Tap Timer CO1605

The usability of the device reminds me of the VCRs in the 80s - convoluted, difficult to read, unintuitive and needlessly complex. Unsurprisingly, the written instructions are of little help. Show details
Follow-up · To be fair, the device still works reliably a month after the purchase. The display is poor but once you've figured it out that doesn't matter so much.
Generally a good reliable tap timer. I've had several over the years, and had 2 warranty returns when they started to leak internally. After a few years LCD screen will lose contrast exposed to full sun, and cannot be read on a hot day. It pays to read the small print on the box "Do not use in freezing conditions" as the plastic tap fittings… Read more
will fail catastrophically in a Canberra winter. Overall the CO1605 Digital tap timer is quick to program (after a bit of practice) and replace batteries but there are operational limits.

FAULTY DIGITAL TAP TIMER – I bought a , digital tap timer model CO 1605 in late 2022, and is only used in summer time, it stop working a couple of weeks ago, and upon inspection I found it had water inside the timer and the battery leads have corroded. I spoke to Len at HOLMAN and all he kept saying was virtually, is that it has a 1 year warranty and got a faulty one (… Read more
badluck I guess) , I kept explaining that's not good enough and why should I trust your products in the future. Consumer affairs , Clearly states I am expected to have a reasonable period of use with a product I purchased. I am very disappointed and I will have no choice but to escalate this, unless Holman replaces the faulty unit. My name is NORMAN.

Simple maintenance – Had mine for a couple of years. Just stopped working. Because Im using damn water without a filter it had finally blocked. Tested the dc motor which was fine. Used some compressed air to clean the valve. Screwed it back together, good as new now. Show reply

Works well for me – Has more features than comparable makes. Difficult to programme, but once it is done properly It works well. Well priced for what it does. I suspect a lot of poor reviews are resulting from improper programming. When working correctly it counts seconds down to ON and then counts down duration. Show reply
Great features, Simple to install, just works after trying other brands – I tried other brands for a simple solution to my drip irrigation system. This cost $59 at Bunnings. Its easy to set up, does NOT leak and so simple to switch to manual with 1 press of the on switch. Well designed folks at Holman. Show details · 1
So easy to set up! – I set up the black water pipe and sprayers, connected the timer. It leaked a bit maybe I didn't tighten enough, but I put PTFE tape on all the threads and then it was tight as with not a drop leaking at the tap connections. Then I had no idea how to set up the settings so I downloaded the manual with google and it was really easy and intuitive. … Read more
I set 20mins twice daily with 2 unused times. So happy. I can pause any watering with one button and resume with one button. We'll be away for a week in summer and I won't have to worry.

Faulty unit – It doesn’t work. I have been trying to get this working and finally realised that it is faulty. I bought 2 and have borrowed the one my son had and realised that when you hit the manual button there’s an audible click that shifts the valve to allow the water through. With my unit nothing happens. That valve doesn’t move and no water can pass… Read more
through the unit. I have had the unit for some time. There’s no invoice and I am very annoyed because all this time I thought I was the problem. It’s your crappy unit.
Premature failure of Holman CO1605 Tap Timers – I've had 3 of these CO1605 timers fail. The rubber diaphragm eventually fails so the tap does not turn off completely, still leaks. The rubber diaphragm is probably a 50cent item. The last one bought 30/01/2021, lasted about 1320days on & off twice a day gives about 2600 cycles. Mean-time-to-failure should be 100,000 (one hundred thousand cycles).… Read more
In my opinion this product is not-fit-for-purpose and should be withdrawn from sale unless spare parts be made available to repair it. Electronics side of these timer seems to work ok.
I approached Holman Industries by email some years ago. They responded but refused to supply the rubber diaphragm spare part. Presently I have 3 of these timers sitting in my junk box!
Would not recommend… – Unit has completely failed after 18 months nothing working except clock, new batteries have not helped, would not recommend plenty of other options available from other brands Show details

Mostly good but frustrating – I have a 1605 that is programmed to go on once, every day of the week, for 30 mins Battery is new, unit is only 3 months old Programmed schedule will not activate, but will operate manually- any helpful suggestions?thanks in advance Show details
Poor quality unreliable – After 12 months use we returned home and found the plastic lock collar broken off.purchased a new collar plus spare $20 including postage. Shortly after receipt we noticed timer was not shutting off properly and constantly allowing water to bypass. We bought this timer so that we could ensure balcony plants received water whilst away. Obviously could not rely on timer to achieve this- on two counts. Show details

Exchange unit faults – This was a replacement for one that had a failing digital display. Ran it on time setting for 3hr duration. It ran for 5hrs. When I checked settings it showed 3hrs on setting number 1, but also displayed 66min on setting 2 which I didn't set up! I checked duration and time set ups for 3hrs again and ran manually but it displayed 4hrs run time.… Read more
The only way I could correct this was to set it up to run 2hrs check it on manual run and it and found it displayed 3hr run time. Something very wrong with this model and finding it difficult to support its use to others.

WARNING: Leaks & increased water bill – Two units from Bunnings Dec 2019. Worked well for 2 years, then used infrequently during La Nina. About 3 years after purchase, received water bill >70% higher than expected!!! Discovered that both units had internal leaks in off mode: water running through units and trickling out of some irrigation outlets. Avoid this substandard product, its failure can increase water bills!!!! Show details
Seem to have an inherent problem with the fitting failing – We purchased 2 of these and both failed within approx 1 hour of use..we were using them under low pressure as.we had short runs and onlynhad the tap running approx half way. Both failed where the included.adapter from large to small connections joins the timers connector. The adapter looks to have physically deformed on both resulting in lots of leaking and so glad we tested before heading away. Show details

Difficult to set up - stopped working after 3 years – I purchased this timer to replace one from a different manufacturer which died after 5 years of constant use which I consider good value for money. I set it up including one program to operated 3 days a week and that was reasonable easy to do. Now comes the reason for the title. For some time I could NOT get it to operate at the programmed time.… Read more
After searching for and watching a Youtube video I found that the timer also has a feature to disable/enable the programs AND that it appeared that the timer DEFAULTED to 'disable'. To enable/disable the programs the OFF button is pressed and held. When disabled the icon of a watering device is displayed and when enabled it does not display. It is a good feature BUT I feel that this is a trap for the unwary especially if the timer defaults to OFF when initially setting it up and maybe there should be warnings on the instructions to be wary of this for first time users. I set the title as difficult to use only because of the problem I had with the disable programs feature. I rated value for money as good and build quality as good but I do that hoping that it lasts longer than Holman tap timers I purchased and threw away 5 years ago. [added later] After using the timer for 3 years it is still working however the o-ring and washer in the connector to the tap are a bit dodgy in that every now and then I have to either tighten the fittings more or remove the o-ring and washer and replace upside down to stop minor leaks. The entire fitting (timer to tap) is not a good design. Not long after that it developed a very small hole in the plastic body which caused a very small mist all the time. I managed to seal the hole. A month later I noticed that it was still delivering water even in the OFF mode. I was hopeful that sending a blast of water through it in the reverse direction may have cleared a possible obstruction by no. I had to replace it after 40 months of use and have decided to a Nylex automatic tap timer which offers a 2 year warranty.
Don't by a garden timer – Bought the Holman CO16OOAS digital garden timer at Bunnings and set it for auto 3x 1 min daily watering. Worked fine for 9 months then during the night the timer failed to turn off the tap flow and my garden got 8 hours of watering and my back yard was flooded. Holman watering products of poor quality – I have purchased numerous Holman watering products from Bunnings in the last 3 years. Some of these items include sprinklers, digital tap timers and hose connections. All items don’t last and continually require replacement. The digital tap timers continually switch off and the digital display resets. I have exchanged the products at bunnings but the same problems exist. I would not recommend Holman products. Screwed – Most seriously screwed up timer I've ever had to use. Worked for 10 minutes, then failed. No buttons worked. Cant even turn it on or off manually. Useless. Don't buy unless you like wasting time.
Hit and miss – This is the 4th or 5th of these units I have bought. Some have lasted a few years, however, I now have one that has only lasted 6 weeks and summer has just started! The unit does not start at the set time, so back to Bunnings once again. Poor built quality, they break down pretty quickly in the sun, and expensive for what they really are. Does… Read more
anyone know of a quality unit that is the same cost ($50)? Bunnings seems to be oblivious to the issues and just keeps selling them. One time I returned one to find out there was a recall. I would expect more from a local company.
Holman Digital Tap Timer rubbish – Have had 4 of these units and while working they are ok. But if you have an issue don't expect any good advice from Holman support. electronics." So I said "What am I supposed to do with it then just throw it away" to which she replied "I guess so". So if that's an example of their quality then I might as well buy a cheap one and be prepared to replace it every year. The others will be going in the bin when they pack up which will no doubt be sooner than later.

Would help if pressure rating is clearly on the package – I think the design of this product is pretty decent. The digital clock timer and easy access to battery is really good. The problem is that my mains pressure does go up to 850kpa and as others have experienced the solenoid activation will not open at pressures above 600kpa. I might just state that this unit was a replacement of the Holman C01601. That unit sprang a leak in the back seam. So two different Holman tap timers and both failed.

Co1606 Tap timer – I’ve bought 5 of these until over 12months and all have failed with 6months. Bunnings replaces all of them at some point in time.
