Holman WX1 Tap Timer

Rubbish! Spent hours trying to connect the Wi-fi function inside the app Then contacted support at Holman To their credit they were very friendly but they are asking me to contact my modem provider to get the modem to only operate on 2.4GH not 5 or both Absolute waste of time and will be refunded at Bunnings All this to find a timer to water the lawn OMG Show details
This looked like such a great product but the other reviews were right, impossible to set up. I was unable to connect the hub to my home wifi, never had an issue with any other products. Luckily Bunnings have a full refund. A complete waste of time. Show details
Just thrown two of them into the bin, should have come here first, they are utter rubbish, I spent about eight hours between the two of them and still no go, I am very technology literate, but to no avail, I already have a linksys, and it works every time, I will never purchase another Holman product, they are a waste of time, and on top of that you go to their website and speak to a robot, asking obvious and needless questions. Poor product – Recently bought 2 X2 timers. Took forever to get set up on the 2GHz network, lucky we could split the network. Waste of time, small print only on the box if you even know the difference between spectrums.. Got them connected. Only to have them both leak in the same place between the connector at the top of the timer and between the hose… Read more
connector, hand tightened and with a tightening tool. Still leaked, poor seals and plastic cant be over tightened without breaking. Absolute waste of time and energy. EDIT: I was given the option for remediation. Holman were very fast to respond multiple times. They even suggested using plumbers tape even though it's a brand new product. Finally asked me to send photos. Haven't heard from them for over a week. Poor product and poor customer service.
Really smart but also really dumb – Overall I like this timer. I use a bunch in the garden. As long as you keep the batteries fresh the wifi stays reliable. So changing them every 5 months or so. I like the automations, like if it’s a rainy day don’t water. I don’t like where they put the battery compartment! It can’t slide out without disconnecting the irrigation pipes from the… Read more
timers. This means putting pressure on all the fittings and flexing the timer as you use pressure to unscrew and reattach the fittings reducing the life of the timer because it’s all plastic.

Incredible – The Holman WX1 is a class leading home irrigation wifi controlled tap timer. Devices are controlled in the Holman Home app and, once configured, can also be integrated with your existing Google Home assistant / Amazon Alexa! Just say, “Hey Google, turn on the garden tap <as per your device name when setting up>” and the magic happens! I’m… Read more · 1

Price: $79ea (1 x WX1) - Dec 2020
Required: 1 x Smart Hub Price: $99 (1 x Hub, 1 x WX1) - Dec 2020
The hub is what manages each WX1 tap timer (max 4 x WX1’s per Smart Hub) - and to my surprise, the Smart Hub is also a wifi controlled power outlet! You can remotely control the power outlet through the app or Google Home Assistant / Alexa (just like your WX1) - perfect for converting lamps / lights into ‘smart lights’! Note: the hub will only run on 2.4gHz wifi band (not 5.0 gHz) - this is identified during the setup process. You will need to connect to 2.4 prior to adding the hub to your Holman account.
Batteries: Each WX1 uses 4 x AA batteries. Don’t forget these when you’re at Bunnings!
Likes: • Ability to set up multiple schedules per device (20 mins at 06:00am, 40 mins at 19:00 etc)
• Automations based on events - eg, ‘if raining in suburb, you can automatically delay watering by 24/48/72hrs’ and not have to touch a button!
• No tools required for installation - simply hand tighten onto tap.
Opportunities: • It would be ideal to have a summary of all water consumption over a specified period (not just a summary of consumption per device). After all, having multiple devices under the one location (home) should enable an overall usage summary for a date range. I’m sure this is easily available through future app updates?
I would highly recommend this product to homeowners looking for improved visibility over their watering regime and in turn, opportunities for water savings through the graphs/smarts built into this product.
Today I’ve upgraded all my taps from the deplorable Holman BTX1 to the new WX1’s. I absolutely regretted buying the BTX1’s and was hesitant to invest in Holman again because of this product. After taking a leap of faith (and keeping my receipt just in case!), I can honestly say that this is a significant step up from the BTX1 and well worth the investment. I’m confident you’ll agree. Happy ‘smart’ watering!

Holman Home App and WX1 WiFi Watering Timer – After several years of using the Holman Home App and WX1 WiFi Watering Timer, I can confidently say that both products have been instrumental in keeping my garden thriving without any hassle. The Holman Home App has proven to be incredibly user-friendly and reliable. The app allows me to effortlessly control and monitor my watering schedule.… Read more
Transitioning between winter and summer watering routines is a breeze; all I have to do is turn the schedule ( which I have initially made ) on and off according to the season.
The WX1 WiFi Watering Timer has been a game-changer for my gardening needs. Despite not having the weather station feature, which adjusts watering based on weather conditions, the timer alone is invaluable. It stands up admirably to the extreme heat of Adelaide summers, where temperatures can soar to 48°C. The timer is exposed to direct sunlight and continues to function flawlessly. The only maintenance required is ensuring the batteries are not drained, which is a minor task considering the benefits.
Performance and Battery Life: I've noticed some reviewers have experienced issues with the WiFi extender dropping connections and the unit cutting out. However, I live in a unit where the router is not too far from the extender, and the timer is just a few meters from the WiFi extender, so I haven't encountered these issues. Since mid-last year, I've observed that the batteries tend to drain more quickly than in previous years. Using good quality batteries does help them last a bit longer, though.
I am 100% satisfied with both the Holman Home App and the WX1 WiFi Watering Timer. These products provide peace of mind, knowing that my garden will receive the necessary care with minimal effort on my part. Their reliability and ease of use make them indispensable tools for any gardening enthusiast.
Good but needs internet – Does a great job. Didnt actually realise has a flow meter for volume watered so extra benefit. Not sure how accurate but seems good Shame need the hun as that is annoying but not a deterrent to the product, just extra cost. Only downfall is despite being on local wifi network if the internet drops out cant manage locally which is a bit of a problem. Otherwise overall good product. Show details
Great timer let down by battery management – In many ways I love this timer. Easy to control from phone and you can easily program times from phone (although it need an every 2 or 3 days option rather than fixed day). You can write scripts etc so it doesn’t water when not needed (high moisture, rain coming etc). However it is let down by the battery management in the moisture sensor (and to… Read more
lesser degree in timer). Battery in sensor only lasts a few weeks and gives no warning before it runs out (runs out/ceases operating as soon as alert is received - right up to that moment battery shows 100%). What is strange is that when taking battery out and testing them they are still at 90% - so poor battery management. The timer is a bit better (battery last longer but again when shows low battery when it is at 90% and needs changing). Update: Holman assisted me with this problem - great service. The new moisture sensor has been running well so far.
Negative reviews
Insane battery usage leads to dire garden consequences when they fail without sufficient warning. Buy something else. Ps, what the heck is the WiFi plug for? Entirely useless tech. HAVING to reset and go through pairing every time this monster chews through a battery is simply not consumer friendly. Show details
RUBBISH!!! – Absolute rubbish!!! Don’t waste your time!! Continuously dropping out of connection even within 10m of the house, always going offline and not being able to turn on or off when needed, rain sensor doesn’t work, batteries need replacing every few weeks, can’t update watering schedule as it’s always dropping out of connection just garbage I can’t believe binnings sell such a rubbish product Show details
Don't bother anymore, old Tech refuses to connect – Used to work fine, but appears to not keep up with wireless technology. Have bought new units thinking the old ones have faulted after a couple of years but new ones don't work either. Don't waste your time unless they upgrade their devices fully. Can't get warranty on the older stuff and the new replacements I'm struggling to get a result. Tap units leaked internally just outside of warranty and don't last more than a couple of years. Let down by the battery usage – It does what is advertised but battery usage is terrible. I have to replace the battery every 2-4 weeks considering it is only set to water three times a week twice a day. And whenever it is low on battery, it appear to lose connection to the hub making the remote control function via the app useless.
Poor battery performance. Need to be replaced every 2 months – System operates well running a small pressure pump on a rain water tank for reticulation. Connection are inconvenient having to turn off the 5ghz router connection so it can find the 2.4ghz. Biggest issue is the poor battery performance. Need to replace every 2 months. I will be putting back the cheap $25 timer which operated flawlessly. Show details

Worked Great For Just Under 2 Years .. Then!! – Purchased 2x WX1’s, 2x Moisture Sensors, 1 WX2 and 2x Wifi Hubs from Bunnings roughly 2 years ago. Everything worked great for about 14-16 months the schedules, wifi connectivity, online control from away at work, even the moisture sensors. Then just recently both moisture sensors died 2-3 months apart due to sun damage and water ingress and… Read more
internal rust, all 3 Timers are in great condition externally for being out in the elements all this time but I now need new batteries in both WX1’s roughly every 2 weeks which starts to add up to the price of a new timer after a while, the WX2 still works great though!
This Is A Worthless Product – 1. It is summer. 2. I have a garden that has cost me thousands of dollars to build. 3. I need to water it when I am not home. 4. I bought a WiFi hub and four timers plus two moisture meters from Bunnings. 5. The system worked for about a week, then batteries went flat. OK so Holman says the batteries are dodgy - changed. 6 The wifi hub will NOT… Read more

Half a star would be too much - buy these at your own peril! – Get a notification that the WX1 has a low battery warning "The tap timer will not water if the batteries are flat"... well that is incorrect. My security cameras confirmed the tap timer is stuck on. These are the single biggest letdowns I have experienced of late; they will fail eventually, and your plants will either die of too much or too little water.

Can’t connect to WiFi, so unusable – Along with the corresponding WiFi Hub, after well over 20 attempts to connect the devices to our WiFi, we had each device connect once, only to disconnect the very next time the Router was turned off (due to a blackout). We’ve since tried connecting the WiFi hub at least 30 more times, without success. These tries have been with a wide range of… Read more
resets and adjustments to both the hub itself and our home router and related settings, all to no avail.
One hub plus 3-4 Tap Timers is quite the expense for something that won’t work because it simply refuses to handle a WiFi system that no other device (phones, PCs, TV, reticulation, solar, etc) has issues with.

Does what it says it does.. great product. Would buy again in a heartbeat! – I purchased this product with some trepedation after reading some of the reviews here about build quality and performance of this product and the general poorly executed commercialisation of some IoT product by other manufactures. However I was plenently suprised when I opened the box. The build quality of this product is excellent with seals to… Read more · 2
keep water of battery compartments, nice firm high quality plastic castings giving the product a look and feel of quality and care has going into its design. Software did exactly as is should as per instructing on commissioning the wifi hub and timers valves. I generaly do not write such glowing reviews of products however this one I can not fault. Long term operation is yet to be verified but it is a great start..

Works perfectly. By far the best wifi tap controller I have used – I have purchased the single and two way version of this tap controller. together with the wifi hub. The instructions could be more detailed but the units both function perfectly once set up properly. Show details · 1
When it works its good, when it doent its bad – I own a WX1 and a WX2 WX1 broke at the connection between tap and timer, I am guessing due to water pressure, not repairable, they did send me a new one on the end. WX2 I just came down stairs and water pressure has apparently dislodged conection even with plummers tape and as been leaking everywhere for who knows how long. I know they are bulk… Read more
bought from china with a label slapped on, but seriously, these things need to be made out of more than just plastic. I have a manual timer from them that ive had for 5 years. Although also made of plastic it is much better made, slight regrets of upgrading.
Works Perfectly – Great device for controlling my watering system. Had to turn off 5G in the modem to get it to connect, then turned 5G back on again. Love the ease of use with manual control and time setting. Have not tried programming time settings yet, but manual does all I need for the moment. Early days but I am stoked. Would definitely recommend this Tap Timer. Sure beats hand watering my new turf lawn. Show details
Does not work in our area – Just bought 2 of these in Perth. They don't work in our area (Mount Pleasant, WA 6153). I could hear them both attempting to shut the valve, with each attempt being indicated by a "water hammer" noise. They are simply… Read more

The product eventually plays up – Was initially pretty happy with the product, then over a 2 month period it started to not provide any data to my phone, though I was able to still control it, but then another month went by, now the device is completely off line, I have to travel 300km to go fix it, if only this was a reliable product it would get 5 stars, but very unreliable product especially if you have to travel 300km to fix the issue and can't fix it remotely.
