Honda VFR750 RC36

Great bike with a few modifications – I have a 1992 VFR750, I have had it for 2 years now and it is on club plates. I have had to call out a tow truck twice on it now due to the infamous electrical issues. If you have issues starting it, and it does not start on the first go, I would recommend you replace the rectifier, replace the battery, install a VFRness and attach an external charger connection point on the battery so you can trickle charge it in your garage. This is the only way I can ride this thing with peace of mind. Replace the stock exhaust with literally anything else and the motor will sing like you would not believe. No other bike can come close to this thing above 5000rpm. Just go on youtube and have a listen. Replace the suspension, or the rear shock at the very least, as I found the original to be too soft/ vague. New suspension will transform the bike. The bike is heavy and can be a pain to manoeuvre around the garage, but this weight helps on long distance rides on the freeway. It's stable and doesn't bounce around or get pushed about by wind. The electrical issues have been a headache, but then the bike is almost 30 years old so it can be forgiven. That V4 motor is an absolute gem and is just an utter symphony/ rock concert. It turns heads, I still laugh at an image burned in my memory. I was rounding a corner and downshifting and saw a mother pushing a pram and walking a greyhound. They were all looking at me; the greyhound with it's tail between it's legs, the baby in the pram crying in fear and the mother looking at me enraged. Future classic I reckon.
Purchased in for $2,500.

Fat and slow but love it anyway – I have a 91 vfr750. The first one I bought back in 91 and this one in 2016. Back then it seemed like it cornered like on rails and was a light weight rocket ship after my 1981 gsx1100. Now it seems like a slow old wallowing pig compared to my Ducati's of the same era and my modern bikes and revs it's guts out and goes nowhere quick. The one I have now has only done 46000ks from new and looks showroom.
Even though it seems like i am bagging the old girl don't get me wrong I love this motorcycle and the engine is still addictive in sound and smoothness. The fit and finish is still perfect and the whole thing is just quality. Once you adapt too it's lardy way's it can still be fun in the twisties. I rev the snott out of this bike and know it will come back for more for years.
As close as perfect gets – I've owned 1989 and now 1994 model VFRs. Great all-round ergonomics, two-up or interstate. Good on fuel and not too heavy compared to other full size sport-tourers. In addition to the better low torque & note, I personally find the V4 easier to control the speed on than an in-line-4 too. Can't comment too much about handling as I don't ride that hard, but handling & brakes haven't let me down, be it country touring, through the hills, or daily city commuting, rain, hail or shine.
Mechanics & reliability have been A1, save for the classic VFR ignition box issue. Once you change to the non-genuine ignition it'll go forever - do it before the genuine original item breaks as it's not expensive. Most places won't even stock the Honda part as it's the one thing Honda can't do right. Go figure. Reliability, comfortable position, comfort for pillion. Ignition box (but a cheap, easy fix)
Best bike ever? – Don't know if they're the best but be assured, they are very very good at what they do! They are in all probability, the best all-rounder on the market. I have had my 1995 Veefeer since new (to-date it has 14,000klms on it) It is still like new...only tyres and battery have been changed. I have toyed with the idea of selling it a few times in the past....then I get on it and wake up to myself...just love riding it...and that sound at full throttle...the roar of the V4 engine....the way it wants to pull your arms out of their sockets from standing start.....the whine of the overhead cam gears...just awesome!
Don't know if I'd ever sell it...if I did, what would I buy that could match it? Pretty much everything Probably its weight
