A good bike – I'm the owner of a vtr1000f 2005 and comparing with my other bikes I previously just sold zx10r/gsxr750. Vtr1000f is known to drink alot of fuel, although the later models have the 19 litre tank which I have. I easily get over 200kms per tank which is great. Bike performs well, good amounts of torque between 4-8rpm which is where street riders sit… Read more

at. Bike doesn't have any top end compared to these sports bikes however will keep up to one from 0-100. It will be left behind on a track everyday of the week no ifs or buts, but the vtr Could easily win carving canyons/twisties up your favourite mountain road where there are no big straights. The vtr1000f isn't fuel injected so the throttle isn't as crisp/instant. Brakes are ok but better with a good pair sintered high quality pads. It's comfortable compared to the other bikes so going 200kms I'll be ok without a stop, while the other bikes I'm completely destroyed and sore. I would recommend this bike to anyone as it is a fantastic street/road bike that doesn't need to sit high in the RPMS to get power.

LOVE IT!!! – Love my VTR1000, bit of a Honda VFR fan myself, but this is my new favourite bike, 80K on her, still rides like a low KM bike, plenty of torque, beautiful sound, nice gearshift, handling is decent for the age and KMS, comfort is OK as it's has a custom seat and handle bars fitted, still a bit cramped leg wise for me but I willing to ignore it… Read more

because it puts a massive smile on my face as soon as it accelerates. I've ridden plenty of high end bikes with all the electronics but riding is more than relying on electronic aids to get you by, it's reliable, cheap to run and feels like it will last forever...typical Honda really. I'm finding it difficult to find something that I'd be happy to replace it with, so I'm happy to keep it. Only minor negative is the fuel tank size, but by 200kms it's time to, hop off to stretch the legs. Seat height is reasonably low compared to more modern bikes.

Hot Bike – I have owned a VTR1000F for about 14 years. It started out as my prime vehicle but it has been a bit forgotten in recent years. I'm about to trade it in and purchase my last motorcycle, so I thought I might write it's resume. Pros - A great V-twin. It is smooth. It is more than fast enough. It has pull from nothing. It's incredibly reliable. It… Read more ·  2

has two big big carburettors and they should have fouled in the latter years but they havent. It still idles beautifully. The bike is balanced and does everything well.

Cons - The reasons that I'm trading in. Moderate seat height is too high for a man of my short proportions. It doesn't matter too much if you're young but it wears thin as the years drift by. The front forks are soft and the bike dips on heavy braking. It is annoying, even for a conservative rider like myself. The riding position is not for oldies and for youngsters with bad backs. It's fuel tank was conceived in another part of the Honda building from the engine area because it is too small but it will always be too small for a bike that delivers about 35 to 40 mpg. The big negative is the heat of the big big big donk. The side radiators "gently" warm your legs. On a warm Perth day, the joys of riding in traffic are lost. It would be a great bike in the north of England.

I still love the bike but relationships can sour as we get older and need something new in a partner. I need something closer to earth, cooler and probably more sedate. The Firestorm probably needs a bit more riding at higher velocities. I'm sure that the next buyer will never regret his purchase

Great all rounder – I am on my second VTR, ok not going to win any races with the big fours unless the rider of the latter is not great. As an around reliable toy can't go wrong. These things sound great handle well until you are really pushing hard, but this can be fixed cheap with springs and a new bit of fork oil. Clocked up 46,000 kms on my first 98 model that I… Read more

purchased for $10,500 in 2002 and $3,700 for my second 98 model just recently, a lot of bang for your buck. I have owned a lot of different bikes and could not think of anything better for the money, if you are looking for something reliable and fun look no further.

Good – For road riding this bike is the business. V twin power for the real world, plenty of it. Twins have more soul than in-line fours, fact, gorgeous motor. With fours you're forever searching for the right gear, this thing just go for it. Loves corners and straights. Loves being ridden at 160 +, loves it. Sound with aftermarket exhausts is the… Read more

meaning of motorcycling. Great midrange torque and plenty of power, seriously, plenty. Good size, not too bulky, not too small. I'm 6'1" and find it very comfortable without being boring and upright like tourers. Solid and reliable. It's a sports tourer basically so at the track its a bit out of its depth, a bit low in top end speed and cheap suspension. Cheap suspension when you start to push its limits, otherwise fine. Also a bit outdated now, no slipper clutch or such luxuries, slightly difficult to get it into 2nd and 1st for the tight corners.

Excellent – Fantastic bike, wish they kept making them. I have 30000km on my 2007 and apart from a convertor failing on me on a 44c day have had no problems and have ridden bike fairly hard. Won't disappoint. Handling, sound, quality Fuel gauge inaccuracy, almost like they changed the tank size but not the gauge,i.e reserve flashes very early. Electrical Convertor has no cooling fins (like a r1's) which can overheat in hotter climates.

Good – As I said a great overall ride, great reliability with few vices. The motor is just fantastic with buckets of torque that pulls like a train yet gives you great compression braking should you run a bit hot into a corner. And the sound with a GOOD set of aftermarket pipers is music to the ears. The fuel capacity is a little light especially on… Read more

the 97-00 models, but less weight upstairs adds to its fantastic handling, you get use to it and I never ran dry on my 99 with only reserve light to help out. A 400k ride with a full tank to start should only be a one fill . Sold my 99 a few years ago and my new bike will be a VTR. A great ride, excellent performance, fantastic sound with aftermarket pipes, incredible torque and smooth revving V twin motor. Good riding position for the tall rider and a well sorted overall package at a reasonable price. reliability.... Brakes could be sharper with better feed back. Front suspension can be a little harsh and requires some time dialing in and could do with a little extra travel. Honda dealer service, find yourself a good independent bike mechanic.

Excellent – The best motorcycle ever owned. A bike with character, appeal and performance. Never had any mechanical issues and bike was ridden hard at times. Enough power to pull out tree stumps. Price (New) reasonable and dealer servicing not excessive either. Performance, looks, reliability and feel of ride all excellent. Didn't dislike anything about the VTR. Exceeded expectations. Show reply

Excellent – The VTR is a powerful bike with the twin cylinder engine. The fuel economy for me was on average 12.5km per litre, and the tank takes about 14 litres. This only gives a range of 150km before the reserve light goes on. As it is a sports bike you lean onto your wrists, so your hands get tired after 25kms of driving. It is an extremely powerful bike… Read more

and the most dangerous thing on this machine is the demerit points you will earn on your license. Really an enjoyable bike. Powerful and simple bike. Great sound in the twin exhausts. Light and easy to handle. Look great and the yellow colour of the VTR looks teriffic in the sunlight. Honda service from the dealers is average, bike a bit thirsty. Small fuel tank.
