This Sucks, and not how it was intended – I have now had the joy of living in 2 homes with this model after it has been raved about by the owners. A friend owned this and told me how easy it would make our lives. I previously vacuumed the house twice per week. The Hoover would make a lot of noise over hours and then turn itself on in the middle of the night and lodge itself under my… Read more
wardrobe at 2 am beeping non stop until it was released to cause more disruption. Despite this the carpets appeared unclean and I still vacuumed twice per week. I now live in a tiled house several years later and my partners Hoover is let loose several times per week for hours. It disrupts everything and everyone and has a knack for following me around the house peeing me off while it gets jammed in corner, etc beeping every 5-10 mins or so to be rescued. Despite this floors remain unclean and I still vacuum twice weekly. If you hate vacuuming just accept you hate vacuuming and go buy yourself a vacuum cleaner and clean the floors. The technology is just not here to warrant the expense or the hassle.
cleans well – We have all wood floors and adhere to the no tassle or cord rule and the machine does a good job.An issue I have is that the hoover doesn't find home very often and also the cleaners battery was unavailable at Godfreys so I ended up building my own using Jaycar rechargeable batteries.I like this cleaner Show details
Vacuum cleaner a gem. We have even given it a name...Bubbles – From the first time we used it we have been over the moon. We adhered to the carpet tassel rule as well as loose cords. she is still in good working order but we have now picked up a problem. The remote has ceased to function entirely. We did the "change battery bit" consulted the manual, but have had no success. We appeal to you to help us… Read more
solve this problem. I appreciate that this is a review site, but we have tried other options but so far have had no success. Thank you for your time.
i cant live without it – purchased 18 months ago , had a few small issue then needed to repair,{under warranty } when we got it back it was incredible , did up and down lines , ran for approx. 2.5 hours at a time . now battery life has gone ...been to godferys and no batteries available , really annoyed at this . cant even find batteries on line at Hoover. Useless dust collector – Worked wonderfully at first but only on tiles Useless on carpet Now it goes for 3 seconds only and needs to charge It's been on the charge for 3 months and still ain't charged. Fidgets up sold me.....my fault....should have been wiser DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS USELESS TIME WASTING PRIDUCT It never once found the dock either I will never buy from godfreys again Dyson for me
Waste of $$$ – I thought $600 was a lot to spend on a robot, but the man at Godfreys said they were worth it, plus I bought the extra warranty, more wasted $$$$. So after a year its been back 3 times, gets stuck on chairs, under lounges, and now the battery is stuffed AND NOT COVERED BY THE EXTRA WARRANTY!!! Never again!!
Fantastic – This product is great!! I,m sick of people writing negative reviews with comments like oh I gets stick on its own cord if left out!!! HELLO!! here's a novel idea don't leave the cord out in its way!! Oh it's noisy!!! No it isn't. It's a vacuum it can't be silent!!!
Slightly better than useless – Gets stuck constantly in places where it should have enough room.. In corners, under chairs, under the bottom step on the stairs, its own lead if left dangling. It's noisy, constantly beeping over something and can't find the base when it's right in front of it. I still have to vacuum the kitchen with a normal vacuum after it.
Sensor failed less than a year. Bad repair service from hoover – It is terrible. I bought this machine because I thought roomba was overpriced. This hoover machine proved me wrong, especially after I saw how good the roomba worked in my friends house, which is much much larger than my apartment I lived in a small apartment where there is no stair or anything that can cause the hoover damaged. I only ran it… Read more
twice every week and cleaned the filter every week. Not even a year, the robot cannot go straight it anymore which it used to be when it cleaned along the wall. I took it for servicing. I ran it when I got it back the first time, it spun like before. The brush (which is attached at the bottom of the machine) fell off, which was completely fine before I took the robot for service. When I took out the bin, some parts fell off too.
I was furious and I don't think anyone will expect a machine that just got serviced can be more damaged than before getting "repaired". So I took it back and requested them for another service.
When I got it back, which is today. I ran the machine in the shop so I don't have to go back if something goes wrong. Unbelievable, they "fixed" the brushes by replacing it with an old used one. I can tell because I am sure the "hair" of the brush was white, not brown and smelly. I took out the bin and the filter was so smelly as if it was left somewhere in a rubbish bin before they put it into the bin.
I can't believe this is what I would get from the service, and I actually bought their extra two years warranty. Although my other hoover vacuum cleaner is perfectly fine, and working very well. I swear I will never buy anything from Hoover given their service is so unprofessional and disgusting.
Makes life so much easier – I just love my new Hoover robot, I had a roomba which broke and I couldn't afford another and the hoover was considerably cheaper. Honestly I find it just as good as the roomba, the battery life is pretty great even though the Hoover takes a little longer to charge. All in all a pretty great buy.
NOT RECOMMENDED – This vacuum spent more time at Godfreys then on our floor until a week after the warranty ran out it died again! Of course not under warranty this time and I wasn't spending money to get the average machine fixed. It would drive at something, reverse and drive at it again 10 times. It would not detect stairs, one day on one of numerous trips to… Read more
Godfreys they were testing it on the bench and it drove straight off. They said oh it not meant to do that! They must have thought I was standing their making it up each time. The previous robot we had was $100 of ebay and I can't tell the difference. I've tried to post a review on Hoover and it didn't show and Godfreys review are 'selective'. Interesting.
Very pleased with the Hoover Expert – We have had the cleaner a week now and it does a great job, Yep sure you have to make the house "friendly" for the unit by moving some gear around at floor height (or use 1 of the 2 supplied walls) to allow unrestricted access to all areas, but it does a good job. The more it is being used the easier it finds its way around and locates the home… Read more · 1
base to re charge. We have a Labrador Cross that sheds everywhere, but we have a fully tiled hose excluding Bedrooms, and the Hoover with it's 90 minute run time fills the large bin every time. We paid $499 with a 5 year service card included for free services on the unit. Very pleased with the purchase, but it is only a week in, will see what happens over time.

Not nearly as good as Roomba – We have two of these devices, a Roomba at one house and the Hoover at the other. Have not yet managed to have the Hoover clean and return to charge, it just stops somewhere and you have to go looking for it. It gets stuck more easily than the Roomba. Also dust removal and cleaning is not as simple. We wanted one at our weekender, which has… Read more
tiled floors, so thought the Hoover, being cheaper would cope. I guess you get what you pay for and I should have bought another Roomba.
Lots of glitches – Bought and returned one and the second one still does not perform to specifications. The manual is not comprehensive and it goes straight through the virtual walls. It stops at any time for no apparent reason and does not return to recharge. Disappointed and will be returning again to Godfreys. They were very good with the first one and just… Read more
replaced it with no questions. First one did lots of screeching and second one still screeches sometimes when going backwards. Remote does not connect to machine for some reason. Cleans okay when it is working.
Good robotic vacuum with a few caveats – We purchased a Hoover expert 9240 robotic vacuum after doing lots and lots of research. Top Dogs are the Roomba 880 and the Neato 85 but both of these are above $900 AUD whereas the Hoover is $599 AUD. For a still considerable sum of money the Hoover has proven good for our beachside holiday house which consists of Oak floors, low pile carpet,… Read more
and porcelain tiles. Before talking about the Hoovers performance, note that it is an exact copy (think model sharing) of the bObi robotic vacuum designed by the Canadian company that does the bobsweep with the only difference being the Hoover is black and the bObi is white.
Things to be aware of if considering a Hoover expert 9240;(consider for all robotic cleaners)
-Ensure all loose power cords/cables are off the floor as the robot gets tangled in them
-Lift all chairs of the floor so that the vacuum can more easily navigate under table
-Move delicate objects off the floor
-Move anything with ramp like legs of feet as the vacuum tends to ride up them
-The sensors in the front of the unit can get confused by chrome legs or slight gaps under furniture meaning the vacuum bumps into things sometimes before re-adjusting its course of travel. Most of the time it navigates around obstacles and even if it does bump into things the rubber dimples around the front of the unit soften the nudges.
-If you have multiple rooms in your house, let the vacuum clean one large area, then move to the other areas
-Its not really set and forget, particularly if you have lots of rooms.
-Clean the vacuums dustbin and filter after every large clean. Don't forget to clean the brushes.
-The vacuum takes far longer to clean a house than vacuuming manually, although with very little supervision, we have found it to still be a good little cleaner and were surprised by how much dirt, dust, and hair is picked up each cleaning session.
As with any robotic vacuum (even the $900+ ones), a little preparation of your home goes a long way to ensuring the Hoover expert 9240 goes about its business effectively.
To summarize, for us the Hoover expert 9240 works well enough to justify having it and its a quality product with effective technology considering its almost half the price of a Roomba 880.
