If you value your time, do not buy this floor cleaner – If you value your time, do not buy this floor cleaner. I'm now on my sixth unit, with four of them being warranty replacements for this particular Hoover model. When it works properly, I have no complaints and give a positive recommendations. However since my purchase in 2022, Hoover warranty has replaced 4 different times for the same… Read more

problems. See the photo of my Hoover replacement graveyard. This has been a time consuming, negative process and I do not recommend this product.

Hoover is fully aware of the poor build quality of this model, which is clearly defective. They should offer an alternative replacement for all warranty claims on this unit. The process of submitting a warranty claim with Hoover is frustrating and inefficient. It involves resubmitting the same information 3-4 times, taking the broken unit to a repair shop, only for the shop to tell you to contact Hoover directly. Additionally, you're required to upload a video showing the unit’s malfunction, which is difficult due to file size limits on Hoover's website and email system. The simplest option is to upload the video to YouTube and share the link with Hoover. Beyond this, the process often demands 1-3 calls to customer service and the repeated submission of model and serial numbers, along with multiple photos and videos (3-5 times) before a replacement is issued. Hoover representative accuse you of not using Hoover approved cleaning solution and try to deny the warranty replacement request. Altogether, this process takes up nearly a full day spread out over a 3-4 week period and disposing of the broken floor cleaners is nearly impossible because no one wants a broken floor cleaner.

Other / Additional Information:

Unit #1 (2018-2022) – New Purchase #1: I purchased a Hoover Floormate from Hoover.com in 2018 and used it weekly for nearly four years. During that time, it worked well with no issues. In 2022, the motor started making a high-pitched screeching noise and eventually stopped working completely. The unit had a two-year warranty, but since it was out of warranty, I bought a new one. This unit lasted four years and I give a positive rating.

Unit #2 (10/12/2022) – New Purchase #2: In October 2022, I purchased another Hoover Floormate from Hoover.com, expecting it to last another four years. It worked well until March 2023, when it started making the same high-pitched noise and began smelling like burning rubber. I turned it off, waited a few minutes, then tried turning it back on, but it was completely dead. After a month of navigating Hoover's frustrating warranty replacement process, I received a replacement unit. This one lasted only five months and I give a negative rating.

Unit #3 (4/18/2023) – Warranty Replacement #1: Toward the end of April 2023, I received my first warranty replacement. Initially, it worked fine, except for a leaking issue with the water tank when the unit was off. To avoid dealing with Hoover’s warranty process again, I used the tank from the previous unit, which resolved the problem. However, in April 2024, the motor area began to smoke, producing a different smell than the burning rubber from before. I contacted Hoover, and during the call, they asked me to turn the unit on so they could hear it. Within 10 seconds, the motor started smoking again and completely burned out. After this, I spent another month dealing with Hoover's warranty process, providing the same information and documents four separate times. Finally, I received a replacement in May 2024. This unit lasted one year and I give a negative rating.

Unit #4 (5/13/2024) – Warranty Replacement #2: In June 2024, I received another replacement unit, but I didn't use or unbox it until early September. Upon opening it, I noticed it was missing the silver handle mounting screw, so I used the one from the previous unit to avoid contacting Hoover again. When I turned it on the first time, there was a high-pitched noise, but the unit functioned properly. After using it two to three more times, the unit stopped powering on and was completely dead. Went through Hoover's warranty process, providing the same information and documents, again, four separate times. Negative Rating.

Unit #5 (9/30/2024) – Warranty Replacement #3: The replacement unit I received in June 2024 worked for about three to four uses. I filed another warranty claim through Hoover.com with all the required documentation and a video of the issue. However, I didn't receive an automated response for two weeks, so I called customer service. The representative accused me of using a non-Hoover-approved cleaning product, which I explained was untrue since I only use water due to my pets' allergies. After this, they located my claim, asked for the same information I had already submitted, and later sent a follow-up email requesting the same details again. Eventually, I received a replacement unit on 10/24/2024. Negative Rating

Unit #6 (10/24/2024) – Warranty Replacement #4: I received this replacement on 10/24/2024. All parts were included, and the unit seems to be working properly so far. There's no loud screeching noise from the motor, and the water tank doesn't leak. So far, it seems to be functioning as expected. Time will tell if it holds up, as it's only lasted for one day so far. No rating yet.

Poor Quality – I am one who is totally dissatisfied with this product. I ordered it from Amazon in October 2023. I have only used it maybe 3 times. From the first time that i used it I had trouble with the on/off switch turning the machine on. But, thought new product and new user that I needed time to work out the kinks. Now, I went to use it yesterday and… Read more

had a problem getting the clean solution tank out of the slot. Then when I got it out, I filled the tank and had a problem getting the tank back into the slot, After, getting the tank to snap into place, I went about doing other things and when I returned to the machine, the water was leaking all over the floor. I called Amazon regarding this machine being defective and of course, it was out of the timeframe for refund or replacement (November 10th last day for return or refund). If I had read the reviews prior to placing my order for this machine, I probably would not have ordered this product. My recommendation would be "do not order this product"!!!! . Buyer beware, I very rarely give negative reviews, but I am for this product.

What A Piece!! – That's funny, the start of this review. The Example: This is perfect! Can't live without it. That's crap the first time I used it,it was quite. Designed to fail – While it worked, it was good, not great, BUT it was always designed to fail shortly after warranty period expiry. The suction hose failed repeatedly as it was poor quality and the design of the washer was such that it could not cope with movement - replacement no longer available now. The motor cowling is manufactured from material prone to rust… Read more

"I got the short end of the stick" a quote from Hoover after sale customer service – I bought the unit on line either from Hoover or Amazon, model FH40160, MFG code D15A. Over the two years I had the unit, I only used it a few times. This last time I wanted to use it , it would not start when turned on, most likely the motor went dead as the previous reviewer complained about. I called customer service and they said since it was… Read more

out of warranty, I can take it to a local repair shop, or licensed shop or get another unit discounted. I decided to do none of that, and not buy another Hooover product ever. I am now trying to register this product on Hoover site, which is good to do right away after purchase, in the event of recall of this defective product later on, which I believe this product is-diffective in its design.

Motors keep burning out – We absolutely love the way the machine works but we have gone through two machines in two years with minimal usage. It appears to be a design flaw that allows moisture to get into the motor assembly. After machine is used and put away there is moisture that gets into motor housing. Once the moisture dries it can cause the motor to stick. If it is… Read more

stuck hard enough it shorts out quickly once the machine is turned on. Both machines have gone out the same exact way. Very disappointing to have these kind of quality issues with two separate machines that were both relatively new.

Brushes will not spin, have to turn on and off to switch from dry to mop – When it worked (for first 2 uses), I loved it. After 1 or 2 uses it would not work!!! I had to turn on and off to get it to switch from dry to mop/suction. I emptied tank as it suggested but still would not work properly. It would be the best product ever if it would function as stated!!!  Show details

Does a perfect job – This machine does a wonderful job. Mine is one even brand new. I bought it second hand. I read a lot of not-so-good reviews about this machine before I bought it. However, I decided to try since I believe some negative feedbacks are just due to incorrect usage or lack of understanding of the unit. I’m so glad that I tried. It washes and dries… Read more

out the floor very easily. Easy to clean as well (I mean the machine here)

Yes, it takes a bit of time if you are doing a large area. May be some people are expecting magic of machines!!

However, it does a far better job than mopping.

I’m purposely posting this review so that this may help someone like me in the future

Promises the world and delivers nothing – Purchased this product at Godfreys Midland as told it was the best cleaner for hard floors. Product simply was rarely used and the motor decided to pack it in just under two years. fix. Further they did not contact me electing to return the unit advising they dont have any motors to even fix it. Upon receiving the call from Godfreys Midland to collect i asked the cost to replace the motor being $100.

I paid $379 for this unit which has never lived upto the expectation and to add salt in my wounds the after sale service from Hoover has simply been poor. i will be avoiding all Hoover products in the future.

A bit cumbersome – It seems to just swish some water around n the vacuum function sucks up the water. Although quite a bit of water is left behind n floor is left quite wet after each use. I think the vacuum noise gives you an illusion that it's cleaning your floors but in reality I don't think it does any more than my mop. It's quite heavy and a bit annoying to lug… Read more

I love it, others may not – This cleaner is a must have for us. Between the dog going inside and out continuously through the doggy door and the bird seeds and mess, the 60m2 of tiles get very dirty. shiny. Easy to clean machine. Does not hurt my back. Cleans much better than a mop and bucket.

Cons: Slow to do a large area. Bad marks or stuck on things like fruit the bird flicks out is difficult to get off with cleaner alone (I kick round a piece of scotch brite that I use with my foot to remove stubborn marks). You have to go slow and methodical to achieve a good result.

I love the results this machine gives. Earphones and music helps make the time pass. It takes time but is very little effort to use.

Good product – Very light and it does its jobs well. Very convenient and it is easy to us. We love how it is attached to the actual motor and that it provides great suction capacity. Most specially with timber or tiles it still does its job well. We love having this vacuum.  Show details

Do not waste your money – Bought my first one about a year ago within the first 5 months the motor burned out, I got a replacement from one of the service centers, but 4 months later the motor burned again but Since I lost my receipt am out of luck. Use a squeegy mop instead – Very slow work, wheels leave track marks which then have to be cleaned again (and again); doesn't make a difference with grout. Doesn't pick up all dirt, which is then spread and has to be mopped again. I wouldn't recommend this over a sponge mop or steam mop for tiles with high traffic or soil. Looks heavyweight worker, but overrated.  Show details

Another split hose – The performance of the machine was good. It cleaned our tiles and more importantly the grout. However even the best performing product is rendered useless when shortly after warranty was over the hose that sucks water from the cleaning head to waste tank splits. It's not difficult to use, but does not do a very thorough job – The big issue is that I have had to buy three Floor Mates in the last three years. As someone else also reported above, the hose that takes the water from the brushes/floor to the canister in each case split open which then renders the machine useless. You think that with all the reports of this happening, Hoover would change/modify the material… Read more

used to make the hose. Since it was no longer covered by the warranty, I took mine to an authorized repair store to be fixed. The owner said that it would be a "big job and would cost $75.00." It seemed senseless to have the repair done when a new one is just over $115.00. So there you have it. I guess it's not in Hoover's best interest to fix the hose situation. I wish there was another option available as I would switch in a heart beat.

Wash while you vacuum – With this mop and vacuum cleaner combined our terracotta tiles both look and feel clean for the first time in one simple process. Piece of crreap – first one was replaced because the on/off switch was defective. One year after receiving a new one from Hoover, I couldn't power on the unit. Just awful – I bought this under the impression it would be better than my steam mop. Definitely not the case! The 'unique' scrubbing action is hopeless. The amount of liquid left behind on the floor after I lift the machine from where I stopped cleaning is a bad sign also. It's also big and awkward. It's now in the garage, and I'm using my steam mop again.  Show details

Robust, durable and tough – Other hard floor cleaners have a spinning horizontal brush like a vacuum cleaner but this floormate delux has 4 spinning individual round adjacent heads which scrub the floor and remove ingrained dirt. This dirt is lifted via water back up into the dirty water chamber. Flip the switch which stops the brushes scrubbing and the whole unit starts… Read more

drying the floor. Flip it back and off go the scrubbers again. Press the Clean Boost trigger and get ready to be somewhat repulsed by what comes up off the floor. Yuk!

This machine is a good investment for homes with pets, kids, clients coming and going etc. Its heavy duty and the only one I would use in a busy home office with constant foot traffic and 4 pets. Nothing else has worked. This unit is the way to go if you are serious about keeping your floors clean. Anything cheaper will just disappoint.

We're definitely not best mates - more like acquaintances – I have had this "deluxe" version since the beginning of the year. It is VERY similar to the "non-deluxe" version which at time of writing is under $100 in some places, where this one has not been reduced in price (but should be) Pros; 1) Looks cool - you can see the plastic gears! 2) Good for sucking up/cleaning up spills (See Con#3 though) … Read more

3) Your floors DO feel cleaner, but a steam mop does the same if not better and is much lighter

1) Spinscrub - they do spin, they don't scrub (well, maybe if you had your toddler using a scrubbing brush - about that much pressure)

2) It's very loud - which is great if it was actually doing some major work, but it's not!

3) Too cumbersome to get out every time there's a spill and you need to clean it when finished

4) Heavy to use for a machine you are meant to do your whole house with

5) On tiles with grout lines, it is not going to be able to get into the grout unless it's right at the top of the tile.

Great when working – Unfortunately I have had 2 Floormate Deluxes in 11 months. The first was returned on the day it was purchased. never to go back to a mop. 6 months later the machine suddenly made a loud noise as if it was sucking in air and i discovered the hose had almost split in two. Again returned it to the store of purchase and 4 weeks later it was returned and everything appeared to be in good order.

After this I have been paranoid about bending the machine back and always remove the canisters so I can lay machine on ground without bending the neck to change the brushes. Lo and behold only 4 months later the same problem - split hose again. My Hoover Floormate is back in for repairs and with only 1 month left on my warranty am wondering how many months I will get before the same problem occurs and I am out of pocket. I feel I have wasted $399 and can't believe Hoover is not aware of this problem. I know I have cared for the machine well, cleaning it and the filter regularly.

So overall though I love the machine when it is working I believe the components used are of poor quality.

Perfect and can't live without it – I use this daily. Floor is squeaky clean always. We have a pet and the floormate is a perfect tool to clean the floor. Love it and will recommend this to anyone. Hoover Floormate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner – I have had two of the machines. The first one died after 4 months, the water pump went haywire and water just leaked out constantly. Strongly recommended – I have a very large tiled balcony to my apartment and as it's in the city centre it gets dusty and grimy. We also have a lot of pot plants. the first model and I thought the price very reasonable. It's a clever piece of design with many precision-moulded parts, all in plastic. I cannot be sure how it will wear or how long the brushes may last. The two-tank scheme means you can see how much dirty water is accumulating, and it's pretty impressive. Both tanks are easy to fill. I found any non foaming detergent works well. It's quite light-weight. I've just done the balcony after three months overseas (vacuum and hose down first) and it's wonderfully clean now. Strongly recommended.

Clean as clean can be – I bought this from godfreys at Hervey Bay after my steam cleaner fell to bits. Had no plans on paying so much for a cleaner, especially when I found out that it wasn't a vacuum cleaner as well as floor washer, but after using it I'm impressed with how clean my floors are. between. Well, after using this cleaner I'm horrified at the amount of crud that came out of the grout. Steam cleaners and sponge mops clean the surface of the tiles only, but nothing has ever scrubbed the grout before like the brushes on the Hoover floormate. Even when using a scrubbing brush manually on occasion didn't clean like this. So while the instruction book doesn't mention that it's a vacuum cleaner as the previous model was, it does suck up dirt, hair, dust, crumbs etc as it washes the floor. The promos say it cuts cleaning time in half, well I don't think it does because it's a slower process, but this machine cleans so much more effectively that I'd never go back to using a steam cleaner again. It's expensive, but well worth the cost if you want the cleanest floor possible. It's so much easier to use than my old cumbersome H20 steam cleaner that I brought from a tv promo (waste of money, attachments are useless), so the Hoover floormate seems to be a good, user-friendly design in comparison.

Not cheap, but does a great job on floating floors and tiles – I purchased this today after trying to find a way of keeping our floating floor (vinyl) and our bathroom, toilet & laundry tiles clean without getting on the hands and knees. It's also worth noting that 5 hours of cleaning floors and no sore back - it's quite ergonomic once with get the angle of the handle just how you'd like it.

Whilst made of plastic, the unit feels solid and has a quality, weighty feel about it. It's expensive (in my opinion), but pretty good and I'd say it's worth the money.
