MATE - best phone – HUAWEI MATE 9 A little info for first time users... "you won't like iPhone ever again" *Pros* 1. Battery life: (10/10) big issue for everyone, but trick is to never over charge. Advisory to fully charge phone before first use of course. Then charge your phone when it is 5%. I have had this phone now since Jan 2017 and it is incredible no… Read more

sign of battery fatigue if you want to call it that. So thumbs up!

2. Functions and extras: (9/10) everything is state of the art if not better, simple and user friendly and includes user tips.

Massive storage capability even without an SD card

3. Camera: (10/10) Is phenomenal, especially if your a photographer and appreciate it's Leica dual cam it is worth the price.

4: the phone: (10/10) of course the phone will break. If you drop it or neglect it. BUT looks wise. Sleek and simple and just feels solid and just plain outright quality.

5. Screen: (9/10) 9 points for its scratch durability as it has a high tolerance to scratching and the 1 for the fact all large screens crack when dropped (duhh)

6. Overall: (10/10) better than I expected, not being a tech guru it's quite amazing and runs smoother than an apple.

7. Extras: (10/10) comes with the phone, top quality headphones, type c charger with super charging capability, and heavy duty cord (which I still use the original). Car holder, x2 phone cases, extra ear buds and instruction manuals etc. Quite a lot for what you pay.

**cons**

You can't change message tones.... Only ring tones... That's all

And that's my honest review

Big screen, big battery, bit hefty though – I wanted a phone that lasted longer with flexible options like dual SIM, expandable storage/large storage a decent camera without costing the world - can't say there are many options out there that fit. From research, the Mate 9 seemed a good pick as reviews generally were quite positive overall and it fit the bill, so i decided to take the… Read more

plunge.

Quite a solid handset, which feels quite weighty in the hand. For some, they might consider it solid and premium, others might find it a tad heavy. Being so large, its also not the easiest to use with one hand, but you definitely get more screen real estate.

It comes with a plastic case (a bit cheap feeling), so I ordered a few different ones online. USB-C is also a bit of a nuisance as pretty much every other device i have uses microUSB - so i basically have to carry one cable around just for it the Mate9. At least it comes with a microUSB to USB-C adaptor, which helps a little (but it makes it another item that to easily lose).

Camera is decent, not as fast or as sharp as reviews would have led me to believe (maybe it's the user!). Battery life is very solid. Screen is good. Responsiveness (so far) has been good (though i'm not a heavy user) - i just want my phone to last a long time, charge quickly and do everything decently. And so far, the Mate 9 does all this for me.

One small niggle though, i can't double tap to wake the screen, which is a feature other Android phones that i've used before had. I've also read that the Oreo update was available for this phone, but i've yet to receive it. So for those wanting the be on the "latest and greatest", perhaps this phone isn't for you (yet).

Overall for my purposes, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

iPhone/Samsung kller – First of all, I bought a phone on a contract once, while I'll never say never, I currently can't really say I'd do it again. I keep my phone 3 or 4 years if possible and usually buy the 2nd to newest generation, so when my note3 started giving up the ghost, I started looking for a replacement. I'd heard of Huawei, but mentally placed them in the… Read more

same category as Hyundai cars of 15 years ago, sort of ok but just a cheap version and not as good as the real thing(ie Toyota).

Well let me tell you, the only thing keeping iPhone and Samsung offerings on the shelf has to be either fashion or ignorance. This thing is a screamer, it easily outperforms my friends phones that cost half as much more, the battery life is fantastic and the charging speed is unbelievable. If you don't run it totally flat(say only down to 20%) it's full in an hour. To be fair I'd say it has two downsides, the case that it's supplied with is incredibly slippery, put it on a bench and it goes flying. And there's not any acceptable nuglass style screen protector, so I've resorted back to the sticker style. Oh and lastly the camera is superb except in low light.

Amazing phone – The best phone I've ever owned. Great functionality and excellent value for money. Camera is awesome and processor is very quick. Screen is above expectations and the phone is very durable. I've dropped it a few times and unlike other brands it hasn't broken. Overall a great smart phone. Highly recommended.  Show details

Still going strong – This has been the phone I have kept the longest. I'm still using it and it still meets my needs very well indeed. That battery is amazing! It still goes and entire day without effort and is showing no signs of slowing down. Its zippy and never lags and the camera although not world beating, is adequate for my needs. Nothing annoys me about this phone and that's a rarity!  Show details

Easy to use, big screen – I got this model to have a larger screen (my previous phone was 5 inches). While it's not much bigger it is easier to use for short times if you're on the web. I find this phone easy to use and it meets all my needs. The battery life is pretty good too, however I don't spend hours on the phone everyday.  Show details

Battery power is excellent – The first thing to emphasize is that the Android system runs slightly slower after six months or a year. iOS is perfect on the system. but Mate9 's battery endurance is very strong, and 5A charge rate is very fast, an hour can charge more than 80%. The performance of the camera is also quite good. screen is very large, watching movies, playing games is very enjoyable.  Show details

An okay phone – Not my favourite phone but it does the job for everyday use. More reliable than my last phone but a little bit slower to load some of the applications. I have occasional issues with the camera not being able to properly filter the glare from the background of images. But will still do the job.  Show details

Absolute little treasure – I'm 67 and quite amazed at all the technology packed into this mobile. It was easy to set up and runs well on my Aldi mobile plan. The screen clarity is amazing and it even takes 4K video in its stride. It comes with NFC so you can pay at the checkout with your phone. Whow that was a completely new experience. Fantastic phone, could not be happier with it – Had this phone for just over a year now, and it is still lightning fast and plenty of battery power. Takes awesome pictures and has enough options to keep a tech geek like myself happy. Highly recommend this for anyone not interested in spending $1500 on the latest phones. Only reason I will bother upgrading end of 2018 is just to get the latest camera for slightly better photos of the kids. Great stuff Huawei!  Show details

terrible – Do not ever buy one, the simple fact of the matter is the camera is terrible, the call system and messaging system is 100% flawed and I would never recommend anything like this to any human being that enjoys having a basic working phone. I would rather buy a flip phone than buy another phone with the title Huawei. Go that extra mile and buy a samsung or iphone. You will thank me later.  Show details

Great phone – Happy with the mate 9... though it has been clunky and freezing since the latest operating system update. Love the camera options that are available. Love that I can have several wallpapers that it scrolls through every hour. Always use glass screen protectors and have saved the screen despite dropping it many times.  Show details

It's cheap imitation – I wanted to get a Samsung phone as I was happy with it. The salesman at Vodafone in Southland willetton WA kept on telling me that HUAWEI is same as Samsung and it's much better value for money. Eventually, I took his advice and got HUAWEI mate 9 without thinking his motivation on me getting different phone. (I am wondering is it his commission… Read more

higher when he sells HUAWEI?).

I only have problems with this phone and nothing else. It's a CHEAP expensive phone.

The camera is great in this phone, but making phone calls, sending emails and SMS are hopeless. If you want a camera, get this phone, if you want a phone STAY away from HUAWEI.

I will never go to that Vodafone store in Southland Willetton WA again.

It's a good camera phone – I got my phone from Optus which has 24 month plan. I have been using my phone for 8 month. I think the best part of my phone is the camera function. The picture is really clear with high PHD and the camera has so many interesting functions. I hope Huawei could be a bit cheaper in the future.  Show details

It feels very premium, high end for it's price. I am only upgrading because of the amazing new features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.  Show details

Very good – Overall, I'm very happy with this device. The display doesn't quite take my breath away in quite the same way my fiance's Galaxy S8+ does, but the camera, performance and battery life are exceptional. My only gripe is the gremlin which frequently kills some processes you may want to have permanently running, such as my data usage monitor. Apparently a forthcoming update will address this.  Show details

Simply brilliant! – It is following the lost of my Mate 7. I signed up Mate 9 with Vodafone. It is as amazing as all Huawei Mate series. I am still using it right now even if my wife uses Mate 10 pro. The screen is awesome and the size is just right for my hands. Phone storage could be better if it comes with 128GB or 256GB.  Show details
