Good phone from a reliable manufacturer – My older Bluboo phone running Android 7 was very good but its touchscreen accuracy was out of wack so I would be constantly misdialling numbers, so when I saw the Huawei Y6 2018 on sale at Target before Xmas, I jumped at the opportunity to get one. I have 2 Huawei gadgets, an old 3" phone I have since given to a pensioner, and a 7" tablet, 5… Read more
years old but my go for device when travelling overseas due to its being just the right size, with strong wifi, albeit running Android 4.
The Y6 was advertised in a 2 day special, unlocked with Android 8 and at around $140 for such a modern 5.5" phone, a better deal than I could get buying on line from China.
I generally prefer a phone with a removable battery, but in this case I made a compromise, also forsaking a near field sensor, as I have yet to use my phone for tap n go payments (I keep my phone in my pocket not my hand so its just as easy to use my credit card for payments. The battery lasts me a couple of days, being mainly on standby with just a few calls.
There is no compass support, but the Y6 is slim and light with a bright display that is easy to read even in sunlight.
The drawer that holds the sim cards and microSD is a little fiddly but its not the sort of thing you have to use very often.
Wifi is very strong, something I use just as much as the phone system, which has 4g and other frequencies, and certainly covers all the bands here in Australia, an issue that many people including myself, have discovered when buying phones from China, can be a minefield. GPS is also strong, picking up the satellites very quickly.
The Y6 has a fairly standard Android look, so there are no learning curves on that front.
I like the easy way I can mark any phone calls from scammers into the blacklist.
The back camera is very good, it focuses quickly, but I found using flash to fill in details in daylight tends to generate redeye, something I need to investigate more. I dont do selfies so no idea about the front camera.
A suite of diagnostic tools is built in, a feature Huawei have had for many years to keep everything running well.
All in all I am very pleased with the Huawei Y6 2018, it is working flawlessly and the price I paid made it a bargain.
Good budget phone but performance isn't consistent – I bought this phone on sale for $129 (locked to Optus) at Kmart. At that price, it's a good phone. It looks great with its metal frame and large vibrant screen, and the 13 megapixel camera is quite good for its price. There are a few points to consider before buying this phone though. For one, I've seen this phone priced $229 for an unlocked… Read more
model. DO NOT buy this phone at that price, it simply isn't worth it as you can buy way better unlocked phones (the Nokia 3.1 or LG Q6 for example) for that price. Another point to consider is that this phone only has 9 GB of storage available to the user (a memory card is pretty much a requirement). The performance on this phone is OK (if not a little laggy) most of the time, but sometimes it will crawl to a standstill. For some reason it has particular trouble with the Messenger chat bubble that pops up (installing Facebook and Messenger Lite are recommended), and YouTube tends to crash the entire phone if I try to load it up slightly too fast.
So, if you don't try to do more than one or two things at a time, and you are willing to live with the lite versions of some apps and the occasional stutter or crash here and there (and you don't pay more than $160 for it), the Huawei Y6 2018 is a viable budget option, but if you would like to pay a little more and get a better quality phone, I would recommend the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro, Nokia 3/3.1 (AusPost has it on sale for $159), or LG Q6.

Fragile screen, otherwise a great phone – I love the phone itself, it has a number of unexpected features and specs for the price, but the screen is week and flimsy and broke within two weeks sitting in my bag with screen protector on. Show details
Love it – It's amazing better than my iphone, it runs well too,the display is awesome. But I bought the phone for work but seem to use it for home more now too. Show details
A good phone – The camera quality is good, but not the best especially at night. It is a very good value for the price. Display is very alright. I use my phone for browsing the Internet, taking pictures, uploading pictures on social media, chats, video chats, watching videos on YouTube, and so on. Applications don't run smoothly at times. Nice looking budget smartphone – Clear photos and sharp screen surprise my friends because this is a budget phone. Can struggle with multiple apps running. Great for a phone under $200. Huawei interface is easy to use. Show details
Great phone for 4 months – Great value and runs smoothly. Packed with heaps of features and software, comes with a great selfie camera and rear facing camera. Only problem is after a few months it starts to slow down abit. Show details
Takes an age to let you access - facial recognition is very poor – Haven't been able to check camera quality as of yet The display is GREAT Use it for browsing with wifi access only - free or my own NBN Pre loaded apps seem to work fine Show details

Great value for money – Payed $120 online, large screen, i use my mobile for calls, texting and netflix casting and rarely some net browsing. So for that it is a good value for money. It is slow a bit, and leggy from time to time, but because of the price i payed i m happy with features i have. 13 mp camera is fair for my use, anyhow i don't print my photos. Show details
OK cheaper mobile – I am happy with the function of this phone. Calls, sms, loud enough speaker, camera is taped and OK internet. The problem I have is because I haven't signed into any Huawei or Google products it tries to take a photo and ask my location several times a day. Lasted a over a year so it's tough enough. Best phone ever – This phone is amazing. It has all the up to date features you need and runs smoothly with no glitches. The camera quality is great both in the day and night. The speaker quality is great if you want to listen to music out loud through them and the large screen makes it easy to see and do everything you need. Show details

It's a phone & what you paid for – Had to upgrade from my dear old 4 year old Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus... Had been looking for a new phone to replace with similar features and a similar / better camera and enough storage space at a similar price point. The Y6 was at $149 and specs and my few reviews I read have the optimistic view of this phone being similar all around to my… Read more
old phone.
Plus side of the phone having
* Large screen & crisp colours
* easy to navigate OS and features
* battery was excellent in run time*
* fast OS and app's system
* great manufacturer clean and optimisation system inbuilt
Down sides now...
* battery has certainly dropped in run time (noticeably)
* hard to find screen savers and phone covers for the first few weeks...
* laptop backup system is bulky and hard to use
* updates sketchy
* camera is a thing of hit and miss...
* clear pictures for still shots
* can't reduce image quality lower than 5MP
* Landscape pictures "ARE TRASH" really disappointing!!!
* Picture user interface quiet locked and can't be manually optimised for user preferences.
* internal battery not user changeable
* micro SIM & storage slide out tray with poxy pin tool...
It's a phone at that price point to suck you in IMHO - would I do it again... Yeh probably not, I would've waited a little longer and got more money together for something better to suit my needs.
** I myself haven't suffered lag per se, as I close my apps before opening others...
This is the perfct phone as concern to the afforadable – Yes 2 to 3 apps run smoothly on this phone. The price os afforadable for every buyer. The sim is free if you buy from the any sim center like optua , vodaphone. Upto now i have found a problem of charging that it seem like a slow one that a big issue for me till now. Show details
Good screen, great battery life – Very pleased with this phone - I am on it a lot but I am getting an amazing day and a half battery life which is great for me. Screen is nice, good colours, good contrast its only when its out side that I wish it could get a little brighter. Browsing is nice and slick. Considering I only paid under $70 on special, this is one hell of a good deal. Show details
Dissatisfied – I love the camera. But.. As a quick last minute and unexpected purchase as my phone died and I needed one asap for work.. I'm sadly disappointed now in the brand. My phone has done nothing but freeze when using contacts, messages, calendar, calculator and of course the internet connection. Made the use and reliability disappointing. It's really turned me off the brand now. Show details
Great phone so far – Bought this phone last week for my partner. He loves it so far. Loves simple phones. He only wants it as a phone & nothing else. Hence 16Gb internal memory with a micro SD slot for up to 256Gb is perfect for him. It is 152 x 73 x 7.8 as he wanted a larger phone but not too big but big enough for him. Show details
Great for the money – Huawie Y6 Elite, Model LYO-L02. Bought it in 2017 at Woolworths on special for $100. I was impressed by how far Huawei had come since my old huawei 3G super slow no support modem. This phone has all the features. The camera works great. It's just got all the features and no glitches whatsoever. The memory is a bit smallish, but I plugged a 32GB… Read more
micro SD card into it and that's plenty for a phone.
Mind you, I don't live on my phone, and I don't have any games on it. I prefer pc games.
Only one possible thing is the battery is starting to show signs of getting tired after a year.
Horrible – The phone is good in some ways yes, but for me the front and back camera are extremely bad. The photos are not HD and come out all blurry. If you're a teenager like me who loves photos, this is certainly not the phone you should get. The good thing I found is storage is good. Show details
Excellent fast budget phone – Couldnt be happier with the Huawei y6 elite. Fast and reliable are two of its best attributes. Its an entry level phone with a great front and back camera, both with flash. Long lasting battery. Fast charge. I havnt found a fault with this phone. Plenty of storage on board and a very easy storage cleaner app by Huawei. Mine is locked to vodaphone… Read more
which compliment each other tomgive you one of the easiet phones you will use. Will definitely stick with Huawei.
DOES NOT SUPPORT OTG – Not happy as you cannot transfer any music or photos from any other device as, the phone won't let you plug in anything but the battery charger!! No other device can be used on this phone. SORRY I BOUGHT IT!!!!!!!!!! I have had it checked by computer expert and we have tried everything. I will try and put my SD card into another phone that supports OTG and transfer my stuff to it in that phone then put it back into my phone. HOPE IT WORKS Show details

Good budget phone with some large flaws – The 4GB internal storage is an improvement from my last Huawei phone, the Y550 (which had only 2GB), but still isn't enough for anything more than casual use. The phone has an average battery life, but this is quickly drained playing most games (which are often too big to comfortably fit into onboard storage). The camera is okay, but I wouldn't… Read more
recommend this phone for anyone who wants to use anything like Snapchat or Instagram regularly. Snapchat in particular runs slowly and with low image quality on this phone. Even apps that should be easy on the phone, like Spotify, barely function, running extremely slowly.
This phone's saving grace is its price point, being available for under $50 at times. For a $50 phone, it's great, but it's sorely lacking in many areas. I would only recommend it for a light user, only looking to use a few messaging apps, web browsing, and some video streaming.
Best phone I have ever had – I am rather happy with the phone, it works excellently and was a significant upgrade from the previous one. The 1gb of RAM is perfect for most tasks, even mobile gaming and Instant Messaging (im) services. Found it on Ebay for a reasonable price! The call audio is clear and the connection to cell towers and wifi are perfect. It comes pre-installed… Read more
with plenty of tools to help you with your phone and all are useful. Although not all can be uninstalled.
Overall I am ecstatic about it and couldn't be happier!
Functionality not far off 'top-of-the-line' phones – To me, this comes very close to 'top-of-the-line' phones like the iPhones etc. The picture quality of the screen is perhaps just a smidge lower, not that you'd notice unless you were constantly switching between phones. The RAM etc. is a little slower too. However, it has all the functionality of other high end phones, I haven't noticed anything… Read more
that isn't there/ missing.
I've dropped it onto plenty of hard surfaces and without any damage as of yet. The only physical buttons are the volume and power buttons; the rest are touch screen buttons. This is great, as you avoid wearing down physical buttons to the point where they cease working (something I experienced on other phones I've owned). Have not had an issue accessing any apps, tethering/ hot-spotting, post-update bugs etc. etc. Nothing but good things to say really.
Not sure of the price difference between this and Samsungs and iPhones are, but I'm sure this would have to be super competitive. If you want the best absolute best, okay give this a skip, but this is a great $$ compromise.
Decent reliable phone – Decent phone overall. It will do everything most people need to do from day to day. Hardwear is decent, but battery life is the main advantage here as lower specification hardwear is less power hungry. Easily get one day of use from one charge, good rear camera, selfie/front facing camera not so great, but passable. 8GB ROM is rather low however… Read more
easily expandable via SD card slot.
Mine was locked to Vodafone however after 6 months and $25 later, fully unlocked. If unlocking before the 6 month mark? it will cost you $50 to fully unlock - So keep that in mind.
Really Bad - Do NOT Buy – This phone is not good at all, it is very slow, and not much ram, and it crashes, and freezes so i have to hold the power button and volume button, and its slow, and BAD do not buy this phone its not good. I'm warning you, its a waste of money. Show details
Easy to use phone – I bought this phone as it was on special and loved it instantly. Easy to use and a reasonable price. The layout is simple and the touch is extremely responsive. I can get all my emails and everything in one place and delivered quickly. I love the ability to play games on it and the camera quality makes for some amazing photos Show details
Great phone for a great price – An easy to use phone, love the fact we could buy it out right and have a pre paid service. Big letters which is a must, can use as a portable hot spot. Has a good camera and adequate memory. Easy to access apps such as facebook. Very easy to make and receive calls and texts Show details
cheap price and good for backup – no other any better phones at this price range. clear and large screen, battery is okay. it's good for reading news, emails and browsing internet, also playing some basic games. 4G phone with gps is good enough to be used a backup phone. it can be kids' toy as well. forgot to mention that it comes with a screen protector. Strange camera – Phone itself is great value The camera behaves very strange tho and seems too store a photo somewhere unknown on the phone of the last thing that was seen when camera is on without the user even snapping a shot that's a bit weird when no photo is taken an the camera is storing an image Show details
Sufficient smart phone – The Huawei Y6 is a good, sufficient smart phone for everyday use. Its on the cheaper end of the scale compared to other phones but does the job. I bought a protective cover off eBay for it which is good and cheap. Uses android apps, and has other good settings. Would recommend. Show details
This Phone is a piece of crap – Almost no apps can be added without the phone locking up with a message that says to delete apps or files. Locks up without warning for no apparent reason and the only unlock option is to remove the back and then the battery. Needs to be recharged every 36 hours minimum. If you forget it will run out of battery about lunch time the next day.… Read more
Reaction time is very slow for the phone and most apps, I'd say all but as you can't load many I haven't been able to test many.
Crap and slow – It's really slow it freezes and logs out of app's and goes straight to home screen and won't let me move photos to another folder and it keeps coming up with error and won't let me message over seas and American numbersnumber and won't send photos and it looses charge pretty quick Show details
Love it – Live the new phone I've had it from about a month now and not one problem with it has a fast charge and also doesn't cost to much to buy Show details
