This chair is a scam – The chair tilts backwards when you lean on it, and this cannot be adjusted - hence meaning it has virtually NO back support. I could end the review there as this chair literally does not do the ONE JOB a chair should do, and which a $10 folding chair from K-mart can do. But I'll go on to mention the terrible plasticky build quality and the mesh backrest which loosens over time and somehow ends up giving you even less support than at the beginning. Do not fall for "professional" reviewers who gush over this thing after either being paid off or only sitting in it for 5 minutes total. The curved backrest does feel comfortable initially and until you've sat on this thing for an hour or more, you might be misled into thinking it's comfortable. Do not be fooled by the incredible marketing job Humanscale has done on this. Yeah, they look like they're super well designed and ergonomic. Yeah, the designer has coke-bottle glasses and goes around delivering lectures on ergonomics. All of these things plus the ludicrous price tag make it look like this chair should be great, and yet here we are - it's terrible. I am not joking when I say I'd rather sit on a $10 K-mart folding chair than this, as at least I'd have some back support. Humanscale is a marketing company who decided to market chairs. And by golly are they good at marketing - you'd have to be to convince the world that this third-rate piece of plastic junk is worth over a grand. I cry when I think of all the milk bottles that could've been made with that plastic instead.

Worst chair ever for office environment - pain within minutes – Our office was fitted out with these chairs and they are the worst chairs i have ever sat on in my 25 year career. They are promoted as offering support for all body types and to suit everyone in the office environment. Staff within our section have started experiencing bad backs, sore hips, the chairs lean back as you cant lock the backrest and there is no support for the seating area due to the mesh design. We also have another version of the chair that has a solid gel base. These are great but again offer no back support but staff don't experience the same hip and back pain as experience on this one. Do not subject your staff to these chairs. Get the Gel based design and at a price tag of $919 retail, go to office works and buy a cheap chair that is far better.

Purchased in for $900.

The worst office chair I have ever encountered – Whoever designed this thing clearly had never seen a human back or had some very strange beliefs about human anatomy. The back rest constantly reclines back so you end up spending most of the day flopping back and forth as you struggle to find a comfortable medium that doesn't exist. I don't know how there are so many good reviews online for this thing because I would have rather sat on a stack of milk crates, which I wouldn't have had to spend $900 on.

About as good as one of those strap swing seats – This award winning chair is garbage to say the least. As titled it is very akin to one of those swing seats that are made from a wide strap. Yes it supports you by keeping you from falling to the floor but that's about all the support you get. If you like sleeping in a hammock this chair is for you. The seat squeezes you in so you feel squashed and prefer to stand until you tire of standing. As for back support, forget it. The seat is supposed to lock in place and lock the back rest in place. It might for the first day but thereafter it won't, so when you lean back and want some back support it just flops away from you leaving you concerned that you will fall over backwards before it stops. This chair is a class action waiting to happen. The chair lacks a cushion that doubles as a muffler / silencer when necessary. The seat is made of a mesh so when you need to pass wind, it is not muffled. That's okay in open plan offices where there is so much noise that a little more won't be noticed except maybe by those nearest you. Every review lauds how wonderful it is but that is because the only reviews allowed to be published are controlled by the manufacturer or the supplier.
