A Strange Beast – Now I got this after my other juice extractor started chewing off its plastic worm drive. It was an Oscar Cold press juicer with a 150W motor, I think I paid around $500.00 for it. I priced the cost of a new auger, but they only sold it as front end for $195.00. I thought, heck I'm not paying that for a part, and I still have an old juicer, I… Read more

will buy a new one.

After much research I landed on the Hurom H26, it was expensive, but they had a deal on this, so I went for it. It landed in a couple of days, and I immediately put it to the test. The thing is here, it's a vertical juicer and as such it did not take up much space on my bench top, so instead of having to pack it up and stick it in a cupboard and then drag it out when I wanted to use it, I just left it on my bench top, and now of course, I'm going to use it, and not forget I had one.

Now, I have to say, I thought my Oscar was powerful, you could not stop it, so the 150W motor had me convinced it would be enough on the Hurom, unfortunately, I stopped it 3 times, mainly when making "ice cream" . The thing is, if your fruit is frozen like rock, that is what it is..........a. rock, and this juicer stopped in its tracks. The solution was to unfreeze your frozen fruit, just a little, by placing it in a bowl of water for a few minutes, problem solved. Now it didn't really come out like ice cream, more a frozen slushy or paste, I might have to try freezing some milk products and see how they behave. Another annoying trait was, every time I started it seemed to be going in reverse and, until I forced the fruit down it would not juice till it stopped and then realized it had to juice some fruit and magically it began rotating in the correct direction. This thing wobbles, and I am not surprised, nothing actually holds the top part of the unit in place, it just sits there in a groove on the base and depends on the auger to exert enough downward pressure to hold it there. Now, this is probably by design as I can the logic in this madness. I reckon if it was stiff then it might crack if force came to shove, so it wobbles. It has an inner filter with an outer rotating stirrer. The outer ring more or less stirs your juice much like those blades you see in the shop in those slushy machines. The Auger rotates at 43 rpm and the outer ring rotates at 17 rpm. The fact is this is about right. Anything over 60rpm is going to produce heat and kill off your vitamins, so just be aware, this does not increase juicing time, a faster revolving unit up to 60 rpm will show very little difference in the time taken, over that, well, you don't want it blended, right? Another quirky thing is the on , off and in between lever. I really can't figure out why they have this. I guess the idea is to trap your pulp in the unit as when its off it plugs the Shute. mid/off, it gives partial access to your pulp being expelled and full on, well, once again, you can't have it full on because the lever is trapped on this side of the rotating spindle and can only be in the full-on position when you remove the unit from the body. Makes no sense to me ....at all. Ok, it's quirky and sometimes stupid, but it does produce a nice juice and the pulp is quite dry as well. The one thing you all know of course is to peel your oranges and mandarins before juicing, that's why I have a separate unit for juicing oranges, its quicker and I don't have to peel the fruit. peel your carrots otherwise your juice will be brown and not golden orange, but to be honest I leave the skin on my apples but not my pineapple, Huh, I might be dull but I'm not that stupid. The machine itself is quiet in operation. I didn't do a decibel reading but it was the quietest appliance in my kitchen. All in all, if you can stand the pain on your pocket, it is worth the money, when it's discounted, and it should last a long time because its quality built in South Korea, and they tend to be a bit fussy with their electronic goods.

Best investment – Bought this juicer and it delivered everything I wanted. Ease of use. Strength. No ‘bits’ in my juices. Cleaning is the same with parts but I find it very easy to assemble and dissemble. Has not missed at beat and keeps the family of five happy with our daily juices Show details

Great cold press Juicer – I have this juicer for a couple of weeks now, and it hasn't let me down in anyway. I am extremely impressed with the very dry pulp, and near pulp-free juice. Like all vertical, they perform better when produce is cut to allow maximum efficiency. I find it no problems with carrots or celery. I love the machine's quietness and its slow rotation… Read more

which gives the juice time to be fully extracted. There is a collection of pulp inside the auger, but that's to be expected. I give it 9 out of 10. I was also able to purchase a dual hopper for it too as an extra. Staff at Hurom are very friendly and a very prompt service too. Great juice producing machine! dont' let its lightweight deceive you. It actually yields just as much juice as my Kempo green Power twin gear Juicer. the pulp for the celery is actually even drier! Great juicer, very pleased!
