Never again Husqvarna – Awful machine that finally gave up the ghost after 34 hours runtime. Cost about £2300, so about £67/hr in use. Underpowered, noisy and prone to breakdown. Totally unfit for domestic use, never mind commercial. Garbage. Show details
Wishing my father had done something earlier – Husqvarna ts138 purchased by my father several years age. Problems with transmission and his lack of mobility created the situation whereby he didn't follow up on the repairs. He passed on several months ago and I have inherited the problem. I have removed the transmission and taken it down to the local dealer ( could not fault them ) who said… Read more
that the transmission which came in the early models were prone to problems. They are pricing the new models transmission for fitting. Why are there no spares available on the dealers internet site. Why was there no product recall to repair this well no fault. At this moment the options left to me is throwing the mower out in the rubbish tip or I don't know what. Sad thing is I really like the mower, only the transmission is poor.
Husqvarna TC138L - yes, the brother of the TS. Fairly good machine, poor manual and instructions ! – Seems that in Australia you don’t have the TC138L ? Here in the EU both the TS and TC (L) are being offered. Ours is the TC138L, meaning with the grasscatcher attached. Our neighbor has one, seems to ride it easily and is happy with it. So we decided to follow suit. Some of the pro’s and con’s we noticed, clipping our field for the first time. NB… Read more
it is ca 2300m2, bumpy, rough grass, but with no inclines and not many difficult obstacles.
* poor instruction on delivery. Though the dealer rep was sympathetic enough, he failed to inform us of some important intricacies. Same for the manual which has many languages combined but lacks clarity and omits rather essential info. Hence, we had to find out much by ourselves. * first of the bat: just to get moving ! The brake/clutch pedal reacts very rough (we jumped like riding a wild horse) and the clutch is a noisy screaming thing. Hydraulic action would have greatly improved this. * then again: on a hydrostatic drive the clutch is hardly needed. You can just let it up with the drive lever in N, then move the drive handle gently forward (or aft) and off you go, no jumps, less noisy, smooth and with speed control in both directions. Very obviously this is a main feature which should have been explained to us lay persons - but we had to find out with a tiresome internet search and it was not any Husqvarna video, but from a Finnish guy whom we saw drive it forward and back without pushing the clutch/brake pedal at all. Fat minus for Husqvarna and the dealer rep. * the cutting: reasonable to good. Except that, as noted by others, the eject chute towards the grass bucket clogs up often, despite the advertised ‘air induction’. However, we often cut when the grass is reasonably long and sometimes humid. We’ll try again sometime in two goes (high-low) and when it’s really dry. In all fairness, our fuel-driven hand machine had the same issue, while the smaller, lighter electric Wolf Geräte handled the grass better somehow….. one of life’s mysteries. In any case, clipping is neat enough to use it without the bucket/catcher. * the engine and the ride: the 452cc 12 hp is enough for our purpose and vibrations are limited, also when mowing. Very nice machine ! We do not experience the discomfort mentioned by others.Let’s see how it is after a few years… steering and other controls are easy. Well, that’s for my wife, who is the only person I know who did the famous Elk (or Moose !) evasion test with a real Moose :-) Well, it was a dear actually, at 130km/h on the East German Autobahn. Sorry, couldn’t help but mention it ! * our machine was sold in Poland with 2 yr guarantee and we could buy a year extra. In The Netherlands, my country of origin, 5 year is offered. It’s rather weird that this should differ by country ! Even stranger is that our machine was build in the US -they said) while European production is in Austria…. * last, still trying to figure out how the ‘bucket full’ alert works, if any…. there is a sensor but since the tractor has no dashboard except one mini lcd hour and service indicator…. perhaps a sound signal ? Again, the manual provides no answer.
Facit; if the instructions from the sales rep and the manual had been better, I would have given 4 stars, so far.
great lawn tractor – Great little tractor Ideal for our size property of just under an acre Can do lawns in about an hour. reliable and quite ecominical Show details
This is rubbish stay away do not buy one – Incredibly out of balance and vibration from day one whenever the cutter blades are engaged. The grass shoot blocks straight away even when grass is dry and travelling slowly and only gets worse when grass is damper. Belt seems to fall of with amazing regularity so I recommend that you buy a different mower if you want to cut grass rarther than work on the thing all day Show details
Cheap Lawn Tractor Husqvarna TS 138 – It was time to sell my trusty old Clipper Rover 38'' ( 12 years old, Mainly because you can't get parts for them anymore),cut same size as My new Husqvarna TS 138, When I first used TS 138, the main things that stood out was how comfy that seat was and steering wheel wow, levers and switch's all with in easy reach. It has a very tight turning… Read more
circle compared to the Clipper Rover the TS 138 was wow louder with the engine being under powered and excessive vibration, Struggles to cut Buffalo grass especially if you've missed a week due rain. Takes longer to mow my property at much slower speed. Fuel tank is adequate in size, just enough to do my yard, things Ive added to it are Isolator switch, fuel stop valve and fuel filter. other than that, the plastic steering collar has broken (hope warranty fixes that) there has been no other issues with it and it's due for it's first 10 hr service. It's cheap with 5 year warranty witch is what attracted me, In hind sight, would have been better of buying the next size up. Will I get 12 years out of this?, not likely but hears hoping
Not happy!! – It came with a six year warranty it is now seven years old and has done 179 hours. It needs it's FOURTH gearbox, while the first three were changed under warranty, Husqvarna denied responsibility for the latest failure. Only with much emails and phone calls have they agreed to MODIFY the useless transmission. The dealer has been excellent and is… Read more
going to cover the cost of labour. I mow about 1500 sq m with some slope but not steep. Apart from the gearbox every thing is fine.
Further to above, at the 240 approx hour mark, the engine started using oil. I changed the oil and… Read more
Great entry level ride on – I picked one of these up recently to replace a cheap Parklander that had given me issues, and it's a huge improvment - I don't have a huge lawn to mow (about 1000m2) so it's not getting a hard life like some of the other reviewers. I find it easy to start thanks to the automatic choke and it's easy to drive. The ability to reverse while mowing… Read more
without holding down a button makes it a lot easier to zip around my lawn and get in and out of some tight spots and the cutting width is great.
It's easy to engage/disengage the blades and the height adjustment is straight forward.
Where I've marked it down is that to use the mulch kit, you need to leave the side chute attached - which can make getting through my gate and around part of my yard a challenge - I've actuall attached a pull string to the chute so I can manoveur through these areas but I wish I could simply remove the chute and have the mulch plug stay in place.
All in alll though, it seems to be a great mower for what I need it for
Cheap Chinese machine but does the job – It's managed our 1 ha sloping section except in most conditions. No diff lock. Nothing serious broken yet, the transmission needs the break pressed before going forward to reverse. Belts easy to change, engine starts easily and fuel consumption not to bad. Headlights are poor but not often mowing in the dark so no problem. Works well as a… Read more
little tractor around the farm as long as not to steep. Turning circle is about 3m so not bad. The engine in my unit is 17hp and coped with long grass if going slowly and using Kevlar deck belts. If cut to low or go to fast it just stalls, adjust deck height and continue. It's not a commercial use unit but I've had no problems with 5hr a week use to the limits of its power.... no problems yet, I can feel the transmission is starting to behave tired and I've only done 120hr in the 5 months I've had it. I really needed a diff lock but moving your weight around over the slipping wheel helps. Because I got it as new with only 50hr on the clock for 800$ it's been perfect. If it's 3k plus I think I wouldn't recommend.
2 years old, heap of scrap – When it's going, it's not a bad mower. However it's the softest machine that I've ever bought. I've spent more on fuel to haul it back for repairs than I have in fuel to run the damn thing. I've never been able to cut the entirety of my lawn without something going wrong or breaking or failing. The gearboxes and blade carriers that they have… Read more
hidden behind safety guards are made of aluminum. Penny pinching whilst calling it weight saving. The hitch bends when any weight is applied to it. The transmission overheats after 40 mins and kills the engine (no I do not live in a desert, it'll do this at 15 celcius).
Run fast and far from this heap of scrap. Atleast my dealer is decent and stands behind the machine.
Long Term Review - Average Unit – I have now owned my TS138 for just over 5 years and thought I would post up a review Overall the mower has performed well, it mows okay although you can’t use the lowest 2 height settings without hacking up the grass even on a flat surface I have had two of the plastic gearboxes replaced as well as about half a dozen other small items that… Read more
required warranty repair
The catcher was a waste of money for me, it aways got clogged and was a burden
Based on this experience it’s done it’s job for a cheap entry level mower, if you have a good service agent handy it’s not much a drama
Pretty easy to work on yourself if you are okay with that
I will be a better quality brand next time but if you want something cheap but effective this isn’t a bad choice
2 Years going great – After 22hrs and two years it is going strong. This is the entry-level ride-on from Husqvarna. I use it cut 2000m2 block and it works great. The mulching kit is a must-have. planning to do the 25hrs myself. This little guy will do what you need. If you get the mulching kit and it starts to clump, check your blades and sharpen them. Easy to do yourself, watch some YouTubes.
Ripper little tractor – I just bought (new) the TS138 this weekend . We own 3.5 acres , mostly flat with approx 2 acres that need to be mowed . The TS138 did a great job ,I also bought the mulching kit that works great . Sure it’s not a fast a zero turn but it’s also about half that price . Highly recommend Show details

Perfect for our situation – We live on an acre block - half lawns and half bush. Our old MTD was becoming unreliable so we bit the bullet and went new. Have had the TS 138 for over a year now. The mower gets a lot of use both mowing and towing a small trailer. The transmission is so much easier to use than the older mower. A previous reviewer mentioned not being able to mow… Read more
in reverse, but if we turn the ignition switch one click towards the off position while it is running, this enables mowing in reverse. Also, if the park brake is used, one can dismount to pick up tennis balls etc. I would prefer it to cut the lawn closer but it still does a pretty good job. Goes through blades quickly but I guess that is because it gets so much use and gets a good workout in the bush part of the block. As for power - we must have the later model with a bigger motor. My only real complaint is that the motor is loud but I wear earmuffs.
Not really man enough – Starting it is no problem, gear selection is easy, taking up the drive is a bit jerky. It will stall on even slight inclines, even in first gear. If the grass is short and dry then it works with no problem, but a very lush, close lawn over 6" long is a bit of an ask even at its slowest speed. I bought the mulching plug, but the engine isn't… Read more
powerful enough for mulching even a very short lawn. It looks the part but I cannot reccomened it, not my best purshase.

So far, so good – Bought the TS138 and have used it a couple of times. For where it sits in the price range, very impressed so far. Husqvarna seem to have gotten everything right with this model. Great turning circle and safety features. Very simple, easy to use machine. Got a great price on it, but the 5 year warranty is what sold it for me. Only cons are the… Read more
inability to reverse without disengaging the cutting belt, and theneed to often do this may lead to belts wearing quickly. Also, that the mower cuts out if you get off to move a branch or tennis ball. Now, time will tell reliability, belt wear etc. but so far, so good.
Awful problems with transmission belt – I've had this machine less than a year and two transmission belts already. We have a cutting season of 3-4 months of which 1 month both last year and this is spent getting a new belt. Awful reliability. I had a Castlegarden for 10 years and never even serviced it. So much for modern technology. Built to fail I think. Show details
Great tractor couldn’t ask for better mower – Purchased this mower in 2016 had done 80 hrs in that time. Best investment, only ever had one issue with the gear box not engaging into reverse which was fixed under warranty. Just a build up of dust and not greased property when put together. Runs and cuts as it should. Has awesome turning circle, only ever run on premium fuel. Great on fuel. Love the cup holder Show details
Design flawed – The baffle on the bottom of this mower has a major design flaw, in that the leading bolt hole is only 3-sided, so any branch, stone, or uneven ground that this leading edge hits.... it pops the baffle out of the bolt, which then hits the blade, folding the baffle up in the blade, damaging the baffle and the blade. I don’t know why this hole… Read more
couldn’t have been a full hole like around the rest of the baffle, so it can be secured properly. I spend more time taking the baffle off and hammering it flat again, and refitting it, than I do mowing the lawn
Follow up.... The Iatest model TS138 has now rectified this issue, with a full bolt hole, and also… Read more
Design Flaws – The transmission failed within the first year. Replaced under warrantee. Within 2.5 years the transmission failed again. This time the drive bearings also failed. Machine only has a total of 55 hours on it. Husqvarna don't want to know about it. The dealer admits there is a design flaw with the transmission and that Husqvarna knew about it and… Read more
so the latest models now have a different transmission. Husqvarna say you shouldn't have bought a light weight bottom end residential mower - but this wasn't the advice we received at point of sale.
Initially happy, but now have problem – I was very happy with overall unit, and bought the Mulching kit and catcher. The catcher shute kept bouncing away from the housing, but I drilled a hole in the metal guide, and put in a quick release clip which held it firmly in place. The gearbox gave up a few months ago, and after the dealer replaced it, it failed again after about 12 hours of… Read more
use.
The latest model has a different gearbox, and I have been informed by the dealer that I have to blow out the debris from the gearbox after every use. It does not seem to help.
The first gearbox was replaced under warranty, and I am hoping that there is still a warranty on the gearbox.
Apart from that problem, it is a great mower.
Problem sorted. Dealer found linkage error, and removed small part resting on rotater, Unit now works perfectly. 5 out of 5 now. Len H.
Great piece of machinery at an affordable price – Bought this mower to make mowing my 1/2 acre block a little easier. Cuts through long grass on a low cut with ease and can cut through the grass even at full throttle without missing patches. I bought this with a trailer and had it loaded up with bricks and the mower towed it easily. The only real downside is that you need to flick a… Read more

Does a great job – Purchased 3 months ago when on special for $2799. Lot of mower for that price. Replaced my 20 year old Murray and cuts a lot better. Only problem is the chute is a bit cumbersome. I have the mulcher kit and have removed the chute. No problems to date. Very happy with the purchase Show details
Love it – Great ride on mower. Easy to operate and comfortable. Had no issues so far. We had same model previously but wore it out after 8 years (it still went though). The newer model has changed a few features but Still looks the same and only little things. I love it - makes mowing ok. Show details
Hope we get 20+ years out of this mower – We have just had to replace our Greenfield mower after 20+ years and settled on a Husqvarna TS 138 only used it once so far just a little disappointed with the deflector chute it is very wide making it harder to cut close to trees. The 38 inch cut is a bonus and after I get used to using it will shorten my mowing time. So at this point in time I think this mower will give me more time to put my feet up and admire my garden. Lemon – TS 138 less than 12 months old, broken springs in transmission (warranty fix) leaking rear axle seals (warranty fix) fan on top of engine exploded on startup another warranty job. Never buy one of these lemons again.
Not happy – Purchased TS138 brand new. After less than 3 hours use it has been back twice to the dealer. First time after 1 hour use the engine would not start eventually the dealer replaced the engine block. Dealer returns the TS138 and after only 30 minutes use we had smoke everywhere and a really rough idle. The dealer to his credit returned took one… Read more
look at the engine and stated the engine had leaks and he would take the mower away to again replace the engine.
My garden is approx one acre and open to the public yearly so no rough work involved.
Right now l feel ss though l have made a terrible costly mistake and l would love the dealer to take the Husqvarna back and allow me to chose another make. I would even pay for the privilege!
Only new but loving it so far – I bought this after my 30 year old Rover finally became not worth fixing. After 3 months of travel I came back to find 9 inchves of capeweed in the back yard. I live on a 1/3 acre block, long and on a gentle slope front to back. I wasn't expecting any mower to get through the capeweed, let along a 17.5hp single cylinder one but it ploughed through… Read more
what looked like a cabbage patch. I went around once on height 6 and again on 4. In a few days I'll go again at 2 or 3 and try out the bio clip mulching system. It's only a few hours old and I'll update if anything goes wrong but so far this is a cracking little unit. There's a 5 year warranty available in Australia too which gave me peace of mind.
