Husqvarna TS 138

Seems that in Australia you don’t have the TC138L ? Here in the EU both the TS and TC (L) are being offered. Ours is the TC138L, meaning with the grasscatcher attached. Our neighbor has one, seems to ride it easily and is happy with it. So we decided to follow suit. Some of the pro’s and con’s we noticed, clipping our field for the first time. NB it is ca 2300m2, bumpy, rough grass, but with no inclines and not many difficult obstacles.

Incredibly out of balance and vibration from day one whenever the cutter blades are engaged. The grass shoot blocks straight away even when grass is dry and travelling slowly and only gets worse when grass is damper. Belt seems to fall of with amazing regularity so I recommend that you buy a different mower if you want to cut grass rarther than work on the thing all day

It was time to sell my trusty old Clipper Rover 38'' ( 12 years old, Mainly because you can't get parts for them anymore),cut same size as My new Husqvarna TS 138, When I first used TS 138, the main things that stood out was how comfy that seat was and steering wheel wow, levers and switch's all with in easy reach. It has a very tight turning circle compared to the Clipper Rover the TS 138 was wow louder with the engine being under powered and excessive vibration, Struggles to cut Buffalo grass especially if you've missed a week due rain. It came with a six year warranty it is now seven years old and has done 179 hours. It needs it's FOURTH gearbox, while the first three were changed under warranty, Husqvarna denied responsibility for the latest failure. Only with much emails and phone calls have they agreed to MODIFY the useless transmission. The dealer has been excellent and is going to cover the cost of labour. I mow about 1500 sq m with some slope but not steep. Apart from the gearbox every thing is fine.

It's managed our 1 ha sloping section except in most conditions. No diff lock.
Nothing serious broken yet, the transmission needs the break pressed before going forward to reverse.
Belts easy to change, engine starts easily and fuel consumption not to bad.
Headlights are poor but not often mowing in the dark so no problem.
Works well as a little tractor around the farm as long as not to steep.
Turning circle is about 3m so not bad.
The engine in my unit is 17hp and coped with long grass if going slowly and using Kevlar deck belts. If cut

When it's going, it's not a bad mower. However it's the softest machine that I've ever bought.
I've spent more on fuel to haul it back for repairs than I have in fuel to run the damn thing. I've never been able to cut the entirety of my lawn without something going wrong or breaking or failing.

The gearboxes and blade carriers that they have hidden behind safety guards are made of aluminum. Penny pinching whilst calling it weight saving. The hitch bends when any weight is applied to it. The transmission overheats after 40 mins and kills the engine (no I do not live in a desert, it'll do this at 15 celcius).

Run fast and far from this heap of scrap.
Atleast my dealer is decent and stands behind the machine.

I have now owned my TS138 for just over 5 years and thought I would post up a review

Overall the mower has performed well, it mows okay although you can’t use the lowest 2 height settings without hacking up the grass even on a flat surface

I have had two of the plastic gearboxes replaced as well as about half a dozen other small items that required warranty repair

The catcher was a waste of money for me, it aways got clogged and was a burden

Based on this experience it’s done it’s job for a cheap entry level mower, if you have a good service agent handy it’s not much a drama

I just bought (new) the TS138 this weekend . We own 3.5 acres , mostly flat with approx 2 acres that need to be mowed . The TS138 did a great job ,I also bought the mulching kit that works great . Sure it’s not a fast a zero turn but it’s also about half that price . Highly recommend

We live on an acre block - half lawns and half bush. Our old MTD was becoming unreliable so we bit the bullet and went new. Have had the TS 138 for over a year now. The mower gets a lot of use both mowing and towing a small trailer. The transmission is so much easier to use than the older mower. A previous reviewer mentioned not being able to mow in reverse, but if we turn the ignition switch one click towards the off position while it is running, this enables mowing in reverse. Starting it is no problem, gear selection is easy, taking up the drive is a bit jerky. It will stall on even slight inclines, even in first gear. If the grass is short and dry then it works with no problem, but a very lush, close lawn over 6" long is a bit of an ask even at its slowest speed. I bought the mulching plug, but the engine isn't powerful enough for mulching even a very short lawn. It looks the part but I cannot reccomened it, not my best purshase.

Bought the TS138 and have used it a couple of times. For where it sits in the price range, very impressed so far. Husqvarna seem to have gotten everything right with this model. Great turning circle and safety features. Very simple, easy to use machine. Got a great price on it, but the 5 year warranty is what sold it for me. Only cons are the inability to reverse without disengaging the cutting belt, and theneed to often do this may lead to belts wearing quickly. Also, that the mower cuts out if you get off to move a branch or tennis ball. Now, time will tell reliability, belt wear etc. but so far, so good.

I've had this machine less than a year and two transmission belts already. We have a cutting season of 3-4 months of which 1 month both last year and this is spent getting a new belt. Awful reliability. I had a Castlegarden for 10 years and never even serviced it. So much for modern technology. Built to fail I think.
