Been a great mower – Had mower for about 2 years has Kawasaki motor use it to mow lawns and fire breaks and occasionally a paddock only issues I've had is lights are dodgy and seat has a crack now always in shed 100hrs on clock use this to tow a lot as a small hauler does well been very happy with it. Very disappointing experience so far – Purchased this mower about 18 months ago, already broken 2 deck belts, with only 31 hours on the clock . Had previous model Husqvarna for about 10 years ,and no belt issues whatsoever . There is obviously something radically wrong with the cutter bar assembly ? Also, this newer model is much harder to steer ,and there is an anatomical issue with… Read more
the positioning of the left side anti-scalping wheel ,which tends to come in contact with objects if you are not very careful .
Very disappointed, My second and last Husqvarna – Mow a flat acreage belt is continually coming off. Never broken which is good. Done 300 hours. The attachment from the front wheel to mower is continually being replaced costs $100 each time for the part. plus labour. buckles quite easily. and of course an endless Show details
Worst mower ever and Husqvarna warranty is not worth the paper it's written on – Purchased new in March 2018 and before I could get it off the trailer the fuel level surround fell off. 15 hours the deck wash port snapped off while mowing. 20 hours the lights stop working. 30 hours the deck belt pulley covers snap off. 50 hours the baffles in the muffler fall apart and the seat is cracked. Now I'm at 180 hours and the… Read more
brackets that hold the hydrostatic transmission have cracked and transmission the drive belt slips off. Husqvarna says it is normal wear and tear and won't warrant it, even though they know about the issue and provide a reinforcing kit for it. What's the point of having a 5 year warranty if it covers nothing!
Second Husqvarna, Ride on , Why I don't know .Biggest mistake – Second Husqvarna, Why I don't know .Thought we would try the TS 342 .Well 40hrs old, on a flat paddock , exhaust rattles , its broken 2 belts , steering wheel staft is loose along with the steering wheel . After have Husqvarna motorcycles , chainsaws . Very disappointed with there ride on mowers . Never again . Show details
Perfect for our needs on 6 acres – Researched many brands was scared off for six months by reviews here so coming back to share my experience. Previously had lq2142 entry level for 9yrs/900hrs great for our lawns (1 acre around house) but it couldn’t do the paddock work or bolts would rattle and would cause problems hence I was attracted to build quality of the 342 and even more… Read more
after viewing several competitors. Finally convinced Mrs and now 2 services in (first is 5hrs second I did at 44) really pleased with purchase. I actually wish I hadn’t read some of the reviews here as they delayed my purchase and this has cost me time.
This is a much heavier, stronger machine then entry levels. You pay more for it but the build quality is chalk and cheese. I was genuinely shocked.
We have a small vineyard and it has steep areas plus forced to travel sideways so it can be challenging for mowers and drivers. The 342 is such a breath of fresh air and hasn’t missed a beat in this environment. Areas where I would slip or spin this far have not presented any challenges.
I have also been able to mulch our paddocks and clear away the dead bracken and to my surprise it even just eats up the reeds around the dam but I have to be careful there and attack straight on for safety as quiet steep. The cutting deck was what sold me initially and it’s been as practical as I had hoped. It sits really high at level 7 enough to avoid decent size tree roots or other obstacles comfortably. This is something that caused me to loose a blade on last mower so was important to me.
Comfort! Oh my gosh. Great back support, two arm rests that you lift up for easier access or if you want to balance an edge on a serious slope and finally somewhere to put my phone!
The reserve tank is a nice feature but it’s really just a get home ability as you wouldn’t want to drain it as it’s where the crap would end up at the bottom of the tank.
The blades come off in about 1min if you want to sharpen yourself and after spending an afternoon untangling rope that frayed onto the blades on mower I feel this is a god send.
Don’t expect it to be much quicker as this machine is a lot heavier and it’s noticeable at full speed but then again I didn’t buy this to race I just want great looking lawns and the ability to occasionally assist in paddock clean up. Mostly just to keep the grass pushing through and to let my teenage sons see wombat holes if they on their trail bikes.
At 1 acre of lawn, 2 acres of 30 degree steep grape vines and 2-3 acres of back paddocks for sheep it’s hard to justify a real tractor and even then I’d still need a lawn mower. This way I can do the bulk of the work myself and get my neighbour in on his tractor for specific paid jobs if required. Looking at some of the attachments on amazon I rekon I might be able to have a crack at some different jobs I didn’t think would be possible for our block. Search on garden tractor attachments!
We purchased the heavy duty plastic tub trailer also as didn’t want a metal one to rust out. It’s huge and was very reasonable at time of purchase. Around $200 from memory.
Mulcher they wanted more for but was able to get a package so wasn’t much in the end but don’t forget it as they amazing at helping during drier months.
Couple of pics don’t judge the lawn part too harshly as first mow after coming back from overseas holidays. Third pic is far back paddock slight angle but gets the run off from steep areas so real mixed bag of reeds, bracken and wombat holes. Bracken was sprayed around 3 months ago now I just want to clean it up a bit and get back some extra feed for the dorpers when they not in the vineyard.
Didn’t give 5 for safety as was thinking of my extreme areas and may build a roll cage for it but no issues. Just be conscious it’s heavy, it’s a bit taller the entry levels so you do need to be careful on steep slopes. As with all slopes approach/depart angles important.
Hope this helps someone. I will update if any drastic changes or problems.
Husqvarna TS342 – Had my mower for about 12 months and done 80 hours. No issues in that time. Starts, runs, cuts and generally operates very well. No complaints. Kawasaki engine has enough power for my requirements - mix of lawn and paddock mowing. Show details
Consider other options – The TS 342 is a powerful ride on mower. As a contractor I needed something with lots of grunt and reliability , the first few months were great, then things went down hill. The front wheel Bearings seemed to have constant issues needing regular replacing due to the mower not being good for tight areas. A bolt in the locking Diff recently broke… Read more
causing the main drive belt to come loose which resulting in the brackets holding the diff to the body cracking. These are a few of the problems i have had in the 60hrs I've had running it. My main issue is that i asked the Husqvarna Dealership for something reliable and suitable for a commercial user being told this was the machine for me was a real let down. Now Im responsible with my machinery as I love to try and get as many years out of a machine as i can, but this mower just feels like a money pit, and for $6000 i wish i went to gum tree and got a 2nd hand one for $1500, atleast if things went wrong id feel better about spending hundreds in fixing it instead of spending the same amount on the TS 342
Bucket of expensive unreliable crap – Not the best comfort. Bit rough.. had a new skirt put on after bending the other. My fault . Brackets holding the diff , still not arrived after waiting nearly 3 months. Being a contractor , this machine is losing me a lot of money. Struggling to make ends meet now. Motor , strong as a ox, reliable... I would never buy another one. This is my 3rd one. Very disappointed . Overpriced, parts backup....poor,,,,parts expensive.. Show details
Bucket of crap – It is ok to ride on when it runs. I have contacted the agent I bought it from to try and get it fixed so that I can mow my property, they have a four week wait at best. When I contacted the agent the mower was still under warranty but as they have stated on every occasion I have called they are booked solid. It just so happens now that the mower… Read more
warranty has expired by 8 days.
We have tried to fix it ourselves because it is snake season and we want our grass kept short as we have horses on our property. I would never recommend our dealer to anyone as their customer service is non existent. I would never ever recommend buying a hasqvarna mower to anybody after my experience. Back the product you sell or don’t sell it. Not happy, sick of getting ripped off by people who sell and forget.
So dissapointed – New transmission/ difflock after 8 hrs, lights stop working after 20 hours, steering wheel came off, wash down attachment vibrated into two pieces, difflock stopped dis-engaging after 40 hours, lost drive after 60 hours as entire bracket/pulley assembly broke off. All my paddocks are flat and seemed no issue for my 15 year old MTD of over 1000 hours. Show details
Comfortable, Easy operation Let down by Husqvarna dealer delivery – Not even 1 Hour of operation and both cutter deck spindle bearings failed, really loud screaching noise had to shut it down. On inspection spindle housings were so hot I could not touch them, this was the first time brand new mower was used to cut a manicured lawn so it was not hard work that killed the bearings, very poor quality. I took it back… Read more
to dealer the next day they told me that they would order the parts and repair it, 4 days later I picked it up again ! Tested as soon as I got home All good, but don't know for how long ? Should Have got a Deere
6 1/2 years of ownership - Update – 1 year of use - 50hrs Well, I've gotten used to mowing with this machine. I try to avoid down hill right angle turns to minimise scalping and I mow in different directions as much as possible to avoid uneven ridge lines across the lawn. Would be better suited to flat blocks. Uneven mow across slopes of more than 3-5 degrees on 10-15 degrees the… Read more
grass is cut 20mm shorter on down hill side - annoying. Vanguard Vtwin Engine running well, no problems with transmission, most of the plastic and rubbers fell off in the first 10-20 hrs and got destroyed, so nothing to worry about there anymore. No faults elsewhere. why can't Husky get the plastic and rubbers right? With all this stuff rattling, falling off and apart, it ain't a great first impression. Watch out for the hour meter it'll continue to count if your engine is off and your key is still on - remove your key when you're finished mowing. It has a well built heavy duty mowing deck but There are issues with deck rock 'n' roll which are exaggerated by the front wheel suspension. It needs adjustable deck wheels!! The central roller doesn't cut it. The supplied blades are great at lifting the grass right out of the ground and leaving bare earth in it's place. Probably good with tighter grass weaves eg- zoysia, buffalo? Not great with kikuyu -Try the mulching blades for less vacuum effect. Comfortable seat , easy to drive and reasonably quick though still struggles in thick wet grass -and chews through the gas doing it. Would I buy it again? Probably not.
UPDATE! Now march 2022 and I’ve still got this mower, it’s still going. Here’s what’s gone wrong and what I think. Deck has given me plenty of grief, replaced the spindles, weld repairs here and there, lots of bashing - the top was warped from new, causing the spindles not to be in parallel - fixed now and mows ok Back wheels and transmission snapped off just before the extended warranty ended and husqvarna replaced transmission and upgraded mounts. Front wheels rims split and were also replaced under warranty. Few electrical issues most of which I’ve fixed myself. Wheel bearings shot. Couple of batteries. Not sure how many hours I’ve done as I pulled the plug on the hour meter after leaving it on in storage for 3 months while moving between properties, but I guess about 4-500. Motor running ok still, but not the greatest of engines, even though the B&S vanguards are supposed to be a cut above. Glad I got the extended warranty because if I’d had to pay for all the crap that’s failed I would have ditched it years ago. Would I buy another husqvarna mower, ever? No.
