Rated Ok but I wouldn't buy another one – I know everyone says that only people with negative comments generally write reviews but I think that considering what most people will pay for this mower they should be well informed about its truths! I've owned my Husky just on 3 years now and mow a relatively flat 1.25 acres. Firstly it does have some positives. The 22hp B&S engine (so far)… Read more
has been good. It's strong enough for the task and has never let me down. I tow a lot with this mower too and could almost say that it's over powered. Likewise the running gear with diff lock has been great. In fact the diff lock has been invaluable and works really well.
Where this Husky tends to let me down are in a couple of areas. Firstly I've had constant problems related to the steering. Due to what seems to be an excessively complex steering arrangement I've had several part failures which have been costly to fix. As a result of these, the tires have also tended to wear out a lot quicker than normal.
Secondly issues with the deck, in particular with connection failures have been excessive. Although this machine isn't a full scale tractor it shouldn't need to be handled with such care as to not get full benefit from it. Many will argue with me that I've bought the wrong machine for the job but I'm here to tell you that at 4.5k it should be a lot more capable than it is. One piece of good advice I got from the dealer is that the pressed metal deck is better for wetter lawns over the fabricated deck - that's true as the rounded edges have less chance of allowing wet grass cuttings to build up. I've never had it clog up unlike some of my neighbours.
It mows well, is comfortable to ride (I'm 6.1) and for a mower is surprisingly economical. But broken parts shouldn't come as early as they tend to on this model. If you mow a yard as flat and manicured as a billiard table you'll love this mower - but there are many cheaper models out there that can do that also. If you tow a lot such as soil or crushed rock, then again this mower is well suited. But if you hit the occasional small hole or rabbit burrow be warned, her steering will give up a little too soon. For all those that doubt me, just check out the way Husqvarna set up ball joints on steering linkages versus every other type of mower known to man, you'll see what I mean!
Not sure if this will help anyone out there as I would've probably still bought this mower had I read a review like this beforehand. But it's a lot of good coin for something that I believe will cost more coin to maintain. Overall an ok mower just be prepared to spend more once purchased.
Husqvarna Treat Consumers as Mugs – Just had my new YTH2246TDR delivered an hour ago - now I'm waiting for the dealer to pick it back up. Why you may ask. Well the mower with the specified 22hp engine came with a 20hp engine and no real explanation execpt some vague statement about a new standard for rating the engine. Dealer didn't seem to think it was necessary to mention this… Read more
before delivery and then not until I asked the question. Rang Husqvarna they said my beef is with the dealer however their Australian web site sill shows a 22hp engine in the specifications. False advertising, lying by omission, call it what you want, but it is no way for Husqvarna to instill confidence in any of their products.
Should have bought a JD – I have now had my YTH 2546 for 5 years and in that time have spent enough money i could have bought a new one several times. Yes i live on an acreage block with some challenging areas but over the years i have replaced at least 12 sets of blades 6 mandrills a whole deck solenoid 8 mower belts 2 drive belts and the list goes on. The lights have… Read more
never worked from about day 90 flickering on and off and then totally failing. Choke cable melted the outer on the exhaust. The grass catcher clogs and falls off the deck at regular intervals and will only collect bone dry grass. Seat split within the first two years even though kept undercover. Probably would have been ok for a manicured lawn but really very poorly put together. Dont buy one!
Happy So Far – After the green dealer tried to sell us a demo as new, we decided on the Husqvarna even though we had previously owned a green make. The purchase was based on other Husqvarna equipment owned for many years. Two chainsaws, one 24yrs one 2yrs and a brush cutter. All very well performed over this time. The ride on was hard to start at first which… Read more · 1
was a choke cable securing cable problem. Fixed in minutes once diagonsed.
