Don’t bother signing with IHG rewards. What reception staff say or to the point not say affects if you earn points. Effectively, you have to only book directly to earn points. Third party bookings don’t qualify. The rules for their program really don’t cater for people to want to stay with their program. Avoid bothering to sign up.
Amazing place to stay , one of the few remaining earlier hotels overlooking amazing views of the Swan River in the heart of Perth.. When you book river views and a balcony you get just that. I went all out and paid for room including Brekky, and I wasn’t disappointed. Credit due to the helpful and friendly staff who helped this country bumpkin on her way. Big thumbs up from me. The Holiday Inn at Bondi is in a great spot for visiting Sydney. However this is our second stay where the standard of cleanliness was disappointing. The air conditioner didn’t work so the reception staff organised for us to move to another room that they said was an upgrade. This room was on a lower floor with a balcony. This turned out to be the… Read more
smokers floor. With cigarette butts and dirty cups on the balcony and people openly smoking by the lifts in a non smoking hotel. The TV didn’t work and the bed linen was stained. No one was on reception when we returned around 11.30 pm which didn’t feel very safe. So having complained once we gave up but won’t be returning.

Someone gained unauthorized access to my IHG account, made a booking for a stay in the USA for today (while I am currently in Australia), and even changed the contact email address on my profile. I tried calling the IHG APAC service line (800 2222 7172), but the call dropped more than ten times while I was speaking with different customer service… Read more
representatives. I had no connection issues when calling my credit card provider, so the problem seems specific to IHG’s line. The responses I received were inconsistent—more than half of the CSRs gave different explanations, and one even told me to call the hotel in the USA myself to dispute the unauthorized booking, which is unreasonable. I believe my information was leaked because I only use the official IHG app on my iPhone to make bookings, and I’m extremely cautious about suspicious links. The unauthorized booking used both my points and my credit card, was made under my name, and included an updated contact email address. All of this strongly suggests a data breach, yet IHG continues to deny it. If this isn’t a data leak, then it raises serious concerns about the security of IHG’s internal systems. I’m a member of several hotel loyalty programs, and IHG is the only one where I’ve experienced an issue like this. After searching online, I found that I’m not the only person affected by similar incidents. Since the calls kept dropping, I left my email and phone number with the last CSR and am now waiting for a response. While IHG hotels and services (excluding customer service support) are generally good, the security issues are a major concern for any future bookings. Spending two hours trying to reach customer service was incredibly frustrating.
Evolving and great rewards program – Love the rewards the diamond elite membership gets me! And also the new affiliation with Iberostar hotels that match status benefits! Keep up the good work IHG!

had to catch a flight and almost miss it because I was waiting on the valet so please be careful on leaving your vehicle with this hotel. I actually start thinking someone was joy riding in my car. The staff inside the hotel was very respectful and polite. Conf #29909765
Follow-up · I travel at least twice a month now working for United Airlines and I refuse to stay at any IGH hotels because of that incident and my friends, family and colleges will not stay there either.

Good range of hotels, a bit sporadic in some cities. Always worth checking the reseller sites against their rates but they’ve always given me upgrades and rooms with good views every time. App is easy to use.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here! The rooms were surprisingly spacious, exceeding my expectations. A small but delightful touch was the high-quality, generously sized bath soaps – a refreshing change from typical hotel offerings, and they smelled amazing! What truly impressed me was the complimentary breakfast, available until a convenient 10 AM.… Read more
The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making my visit even better. I'll definitely be recommending this place to friends and family.
We enjoyed our stay from June 25 to July 3rd. Troy was very accommodating at the front desk and Jessa was awesome with breakfast. We were sad when they weren't working! Would definitely stay again. Rooms were large and clean. There were many choices for breakfast. Pool was clean.
Negative reviews
Points completely worthless - have been completely nerfed. Have paid for Ambassador, I never got room upgrades. Do not bother if you fancy a IHG hotel - the hotels aren’t bad. Book through a third party site. Accor and Marriott rewards far better.
We were scheduled to stay at The Holiday Inn Alexandria-Carlyle on Oct0ber 10th - October 12th. We were notified on October 9th that due to maintainance problems we wouldn't be able to be accommodated on October 11th as previously agreed. could not accomodate our party. We were referred to Best Western Plus Aexandria/Fort Belvoir. On October 10th we stayed at The Holiday Inn Alexandria-Carlyle. While inspecting the room at check in we noticed that the heat was not fuctioning and we notified housekeeping about the problem. When we returned to the room later the heat was still not working. One of our 3 guest which was an 80 years old woman went to the office and spoke to the management. She stated she was cold and the heat was not working. She further ask what was an 80 year old woman supposed to do in a freezing room? The management team seemed detached, unconcerned and insensitive because the female staff smirked and laughed under her breath. The manager was next to her and he stated he would send someone up to evaluate the problem. A maintenance man came up to the room an hour later. He was professional, considerate and seemed truly concerned. He spent an hour trying to fix the problem. He was not able to fix the problem but in the meantime brought up blankets to help with the heat situation which was truly appreciated. The management team that night was disconnected and condescending to the point that they wouldn't render proper resepct and courtesy. To say that I was dissatified would be an understatement. The Best Western Plus that we were referred to at the last minute was not only less expensive but was more attentive to their guest. Due to our dissatisfaction we will not be patronizing with this hotel. We will share our experience with our friends, family and associates.
Warning to others using the IHG Rewards website - DO YOUR RESEARCH: I planned a 10 day trip to Bali, Indonesia from late July for 10 nights. Without doing much other research I looked at the IHG… Read more
rewards website and booked a pool access room at the Holiday Inn Resort, Nusa Dua with breakfast for roughly AUD $4500 for 10 nights. The rate was flexible and I didn't have to pay until I checked-in to the hotel. I found out later (small print) that the rate did not include the +10 service change or the +11 % government charge. So the final charge would have been around AUD $5,500. I later received an email from my flight supplier (Virgin Australia). They had links to Nusa Dua hotels, including the Holiday Inn Resort where I had booked. The advertised rate, including taxes (but excluding breakfast) was AUD $3725. That is significantly cheaper than IHG. So I cancelled the IHG booking through the IHG website where they brag about matching all cheaper room rates, but don't say how or who to contact if you find a cheaper rate. There is a phone number quoted, but I don't want a phone number, I want to email someone and commence a complaint process. So they have lost me - please be careful when you book and research alternative booking methods. BE WARNED.

We stayed in Madison, Georgia @ the Holiday Inn Express. Everything was good except for the front desk person Rashiua was RUDE and LAZY. made us a fresh pot. We found every staff member to be pleasant, friendly & helpful. We will always try to stay at a Holiday Inn Express wherever we go in the future.
Disappointing – The continental breakfast experience was great. Our two night stay was disappointing, when we arrived back to our room from our day out our beds were not made the bathroom was not cleaned nor the floors vacuumed. We did have fresh towels. I had to call down to the front desk in the morning for a roll of toilet paper to be brought up. This was disappointing.
Amazing staff – Stayed at Holiday Inn @ suites South. What a great experience! David on the front Desk was so friendly and welcoming. zag and Samir at the pub were awesome. Always chatting with us and such a GOOD time. The morning girl behind bar is so efficient. We sat down and she automatically brought our coffee. Please let them know how they made our three night stay amazing!

Your annual vacation (ihg reservation) must be 368 days away or sooner. Otherwise, ihg wiped out all your saved points – I have accumulated 19,878 points over 14 years. I discovered on June 20, 2024 that all my points were wiped out. I checked into my ihg loyalty account to find out the rate of a Holiday Day Inn in a city Asia in October this year. I have booked my flight for the visit. I stayed last year (2023) for 2 days at Holiday Inn Tonawanda-Buffalo Area,… Read more
New York around May 29th and 30th. I never suspect that ihg rewards program expect their members to earn points in a strictly one year period with a leeway of just a couple of days. I later found out in my spam file that ihg warned me of point expiration on June 2, 2024. I am not a frequent traveler. I, however, have been staying at least for one night at an ihg hotel every year except during the pandemic. I paid $13 to buy 1000 points twice to save my points when I could not find any well reviewed ihg hotel that could accommodate my family's vacation needs. I discovered later that $13 hard cash (1,000 points) would not give me even a dollar cash value. Since I was not engaging in any speculative activity, I expect the purchase to be a little fairer. ihg offers members nothing more than a few cents in cash value for $13- hard cash and demands that they make a reservation every 368 days or sooner. Who will stick to a strict one year or sooner window when they plan their annual vacation? When I called to request a reinstatement of my points for courtesy sake, I was denied. When I sent the rewards program an email to ask for a reinstatement, my email was ignored. Every time I think about the money I had spent to keep my ihg points and my ultimately wiped out ihg points, I still feel like I have been bullied by a troll . When I searched on the web for sites to review the horror I went through, I was surprised to find on NerdWallet ihg rewards is rated the second best. ihg must have paid NerdWallet a handsome amount to get pushed up to the rank.
IHG Reward Experience – I am extremely disappointed with IHG rewards and would not recommend wasting your time with staying at an IHG property… I had over 305,000 reward points, which this equals 6-8 free rewards night stays… my understanding was you have 12 months from the last activity to book your next stay before your points expired, I found out I lost my points by… Read more
two days because it’s not from the last activity when you stay with IHG it’s from the last time you book with IHG I happen to book my stayes in June 2023, and stayed in September 2023 in which they use the date you booked your stays as your last activity so I lost 304,000 points and they refuse to restore them. I lost those points within two days. I went to book on June 22nd and found out I lost my points on June 20th…thinking that I had until September. To book for my free stays….i escalated my complaint to IHG rewards complaint department, and they refused to restore them… don’t waste your time with them…at least HILTON rewards will bend over backwards for their reward customers unlike IHG…the representative’s act like it’s coming out of their own pocket it’s a shame.:::
Why would I pay more? – IHG Club ‘member only’ prices are higher than wholesalers – Bookings.Com etc. – and not by a little either, by a lot. Let’s face it, there are more hotels on the planet than we really need. Hotels are a commodity. Why would I pay more? AT MINIMUM, a hotel rewards program should reward members with the absolute best price on new bookings. IHG… Read more

SHAME – Terrible program and worst than terrible is their customer service. They do not care about the service. Worst of the worst, a motel is better than InterContinental hotel group. Just read the reviews here, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
HORRIBLE REWARDS CUSTOMER SERVICE – Dont waste your time with this rewards program. They dont honor your membership if you book thru a third party. So it doesn't mean anything becoming a member because you cant take advantage of the rewards unless you pay top dollar and book direct.
Worst Loyalty Program – I have never been more dismayed about a loyalty program in my life. Due to this I have many points accumulated for this program. Recently I decided to… Read more
treat myself and my family to a stay at the Intercontinental Hayman Resort using the option of rewards points and cash. I booked this over a month ago. However, Cyclone Kirrily resulted in the entire island being evacuated and we were informed that they would only be taking guests from the last day of our reservation. I looked into amending my flights out of Australia, as we are travelling overseas after this trip, so we could still enjoy Hayman Island however it was not financially viable. Due to this, we had to cancel.
I was informed on cancellation that I would be refunded the points but not the cash. I spent several hours just trying to communicate with a person regarding this. Finally, I managed to speak to someone who let me know that this time only they would allow a refund of cash. She then followed up by saying they would deduct 50,000 points to compensate them for the cash they were refunding.
I understand if I was the person to cancel this reservation to not refund the cash, but for a natural disaster to completely close the resort and IHG still refusing to give me a full refund after so many years of loyalty is just a slap in the face. Furthermore, to be belittled and told it was just "bad weather" was insulting. I would much rather be going to Hayman Island and not because of "bad weather", but rather it is a natural disaster that means staying there could result in severe injury or death and I completely respect and admire the decision of the resort to evacuate their guests as they have a duty of care to ensure their safety. The fact the IHG rewards program would rather refuse to consider the effects of natural disasters and belittle their rewards program members shows they are a loyalty program to avoid at all costs.
I would recommend anyone rather take their business to Accor as you are actually treated with respect.
This is the worse program – They took my point a day before my birthday and the even though I called numerous times they would not give me my points back. When you call just be aware that you’ll have to go through 5 different customer service before you get to the department and when you do they are going to tell you there’s nothing they can do and if you’re persistently asking the Manager will hang the phone up and never call back!!!

the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley NSW Australia for our Anniversary. Only to receive a phone call from the hotel The Crowne Plaza , three days prior my stay to inform me that my booking was cancelled, as they are no longer part of IHG chain and they can not accept my reservation as it’s booked under all points. (I didn’t book my reservation under points, it was paid in cash) And that I would need to organise another reservation if I wanted to stay at their hotel, now being the Ridges Resort Hunter Valley, through there hotel not IHG. This is where my nightmare began, I started to call IHG, to find out why my reservation was not honoured and why it had been cancelled by the hotel. My reservation was paid in CASH not points. However IHG converted my money into points for my reservation at the Crowne Plaza and they were not accepting no longer any IHG points. I made numerous calls to IHG over two days, only to be transferred from one department to another and eventually all my calls were disconnected, hanged up or dropped out. It seems that this must be there normal process with there customer’s, just transfer there calls, and get disconnected, as their staff are very unprofessional, lack any experience, and truly have no idea about your booking. I wasted hours on hours to speak to someone to discuss my reservations only to find our that the money I paid for my accommodation was converted back into points. I didn’t cancelled my booking, and all I wanted was for my reservation to be honoured. That was not even a consideration with IHG. I kept trying to contact IHG through phone calls, and every time all my calls ended up being cancelled or disconnected by their staff. This happened at least 15 calls. And I’m not exaggerating. I send emails to their Guest Relations, IHG, and every email that I could forward it to. I received no replies. Knowing that IHG would not honour my reservation at the hotel which I paid for and was also confirmed. I knew now I had to try and retrieve my money which I had paid for. This was another huge struggle to get my money refunded. I thought there was no use trying to call them, as I knew nothing ever gets resolved and they just disconnect your calls. So I tried to contact them through messenger. They can’t hang up on messenger. I persisted through messenger, it took me over 2.5 hrs to actually get someone to actually look at my booking, back and forward through messenger. This was one of the staff responses to me through messenger,
“As I have mentioned booking under Points and Cash rate will be charged upon booking. It is also stated that once cancelled the cash part will be refunded as points.
Firstly I didn’t cancel my booking, IHG couldn’t honour my booking as they are no longer IHG partners with the hotel which I booked through IHG. Please be aware the hotel The Crowne Plaza is still listed under IHG to book accommodation.
I’m now trying to get my money refunded back to my credit card.
- worse worse experience - Customer service doesn’t exist - They take your cash and converted it back to you points, even if you didn’t cancel your booking. - This must be illegal to pay for a service that wasn’t provided to you by a company, and not refund your money back. - - I would like to also emphasise that this situation has caused me undue stress, financial loss, and a significant disruption to my travel plans. IHG ruin my Anniversary. I trusted their establishment to provide a reliable service, and I am deeply disappointed by the mishandling of my reservation/cancellation and the subsequent lack of support from their staff. Yours sincerely from a very disappointed and frustrated IHG customer, which I will never use or recommend to others.
