Great Chair at Excellence Price – I've been using this chair for just over a year and run a Youtube channel where i carefully research, analyse and review products so just wanted to share some pros and cons in hope that it helps others make a decision: PROS Unbeatable price, 10 year warranty, high build quality and solid parts, soft castors, sturdy structure, very comfortable… Read more
seat, great seat height and inclination range for short and tall users, has a head rest, looks very sleek (though subjective), back mesh material makes the chair very breathable. After 1 year of heavy use the condition is near perfect. Can try and pick up from a physical store.
CONS The arm rests and neck rest is not adjustable, seat does not decline far enough for a movie position.
It's not a perfect chair, nor the most comfortable i have used however, for the price that you pay it definitely exceeded my expectations and therefore i would give this a 5/5. I'f you're after a top tier chair where price isn't a major factor then Herman Miller or Steel Case would be more suitable my in my personal opinion - and having used both heavily over the years - i can't justify the marginal cost over a Markus.
Lumbar support in wrong position and locking castors make moving it difficult – I purchased this chair only to realise the castors auto-lock unless you are sitting on it (which seems to be a feature on all IKEA chairs). I strongly dislike this, as it is really difficult to pull out or push under a desk. You have to use two hands and a bit of force to move it. I don't know why it is designed like this. Perhaps a manual lock if… Read more
one needed to lock the wheels would be better.
A second major issue with this chair is that the lumbar support is in the wrong position for me and not adjustable. Instead of supporting the natural curve of my back it sits too low down my spine and pushes me too far forward, giving the constant feeling like I am sliding off.
The seat cushion is also very flat with no ergonomic cup shape for the buttocks. However, the thickness/cushioning level feels spot on and perforated mesh back is welcomed on hot days. Sadly though, I had to return it as it was definitely not what I had hoped for.
A right pain in the backside, literally – Simply put, this chair is not comfortable. It might be fine for those of very slight build who wont put any real kind of weight on the almost non-existant foam cushion, but for anyone average or above in size this chair is pretty garbage. Don't be fooled by the hype. Aside from the cushion, the backrest is nothing more than "fine". The support… Read more
isn't really anything to talk about and the recline is also pretty average.
The other thing to consider is the arms. They suck. Either don't put them on or get third party arms from Amazon or somewhere. The arms it comes with are tiny and don't adjust. Again, if you are a very small person this chair is probably great, but I am 6'1 and this chair was absolutely not designed for someone like me.
While this is arguably better than a garbage "gaming" chair or a $2 plastic bucket chair, it's not good and certainly not worth $200+
Save your money and buy something decent. You don't need an Aeron or some other chair that's priced with a comma. Spend a few hundo extra and you're sweet.
If you get it on sale or just need something in a pinch, sure maybe give it a spin, but you're better off jumping on Gumtree.
Well priced ergonomic chair – Due to WFH conditions during 2020 I did a bit of research into a better chair for myself than the fake leather one purchased from the local office supply store. There are some 'bute ones on the market but I could not justify the expenditure. Many have a whole heap of adjustable armrests, headrest and everything else. The Ikea Markus is… Read more
comfortable and has entry-level lumbar support. For the price is pretty damn good and less than half the cost of the models I was initially considering.
The only thing of note is you'll have to sit on one first and try it out. The lumbar support, headrest and armrests are NOT adjustable. I am 175cm (5' 9/10') tall, I am pretty much spot on the right size for the chair. If you are 3 or so inches (75mm) taller or shorter this chair might not be so good for you.
The lumbar support is killing my back – I did a lot of research before deciding to buy the IKEA Markus, due to its excellent reviews. However, I've since developed lower back pain unlike anything I've ever experienced from using other chairs. This wouldn't be an issue if I could remove the lumbar support or decrease its strength, but that is impossible to do with this chair without… Read more
completely ruining it.
All this being said, if you are ok with very firm lumbar support, this is actually a very good chair. I did really like how far it could lean back.
Excellent chair for the price range – Assembly is easy, instructions are clear. As with all IKEA instructions, follow the instructions exactly as printed and it will be a pleasant journey. Chair is comfortable and works as advertised. 10 Year warranty, so photocopy your receipt. Show details
Great value for what you get – I was looking for a new office chair, and after a lot of researching (Googling), I came across several posts on gaming forums and also on Whirlpool. And this chair came out as being the best bang for buck. I got the Markus in black leather for $349 at Ikea. The chair came second on Lifehacker's "best office chairs"… Read more

Out of the box the chair is very easy to assemble, and being an Ikea product they include easy to follow instructions and the allen key tool you need to put the screws together. The wheels click in, the base screws on, and the backing & arm rests screw in. It will take you less than 15min to put the whole chair together if you've already unwrapped everything.
The cushioning is a little firmer than my old $130 eBay office chair, but I actually sort of prefer it that way. The handles for recline and up/down are easy to use. And you can put the chair into just about any recline position you want and lock it there.
My only criticism of the chair is the tension adjuster on the tilt function. Even on the "hardest" setting the chair leans back very easily. I would have expected the tension to be a lot harder on the hard setting.
I'm still rating this 5 stars though because even though you can get a better chair, you will also pay A LOT more money for it. At this price point this chair is fantastic value, and comes with a 10yr warranty to boot.
Markus hits the mark – Easy to assemble. Sturdy, robust and foam seat that does not bottom out. Tilt adjustment - up/down and rake is good. Castors that lock when not in use. Comfortable for hours. At $249 it is IMO good value.
