Ilve P12FIDNE3/MGC

Ilve Oven - never worked, temperature control faulty - Ilve takes no responsibility – Note - model number above has a typo but I can’t figure out how to change it - P12FDNE3/MGC - We bought a house that has been renovated 12 month earlier, and they had installed a beautiful Ilve stove and oven. It had hardly been used - but we had trouble from the moment we moved in. The buttons that you use to change the time, temperature stick in, so it is impossible to set the time, timer, etc. The second oven didn't work at all. Worst of all - it ran very hot, we would set the temperature but things in the oven would always burn. We contacted ilve but they said - bad luck, no warranty when you didn't purchase the unit yourself. So we paid for a service call all to come out. He said there is a faulty computer board in the unit and it is not regulating the temperature so it just heats up and up and up. So he has to get the spare parts - although he wasn't really sure if he could fix it. He said the unit would have cost $20,000 - and now it is useless and it's going to cost us a bomb just to get it to cook like a $1,000 oven. Ilve doesn't care, their distributor doesn't care - so be careful of these large expensive ovens. I find it hard to believe that such an expensive piece just doesn't work after basically no use and 24 months. I bought an oven thermometer and discovered oven doesn’t only run hot, the temperature randomly changes for no reason. Yesterday we set it for 140, and it settled at 160 for a while, then randomly went to 180. The small oven also is 20 degrees out. The purpose of this review is just to say that even the expensive, quality manufacturers can produce a dud model, and if you get stuck with it, basically you might have to throw it away as the service technician ( recommended by Ilve) said he had no idea what is wrong and recommends replacing the computer board. We are thinking maybe we just get rid of it no buy something else as we may replace the board, spend thousands doing that and problems keep happening. Might be best to cut our losses. Also what is disappointing is the total lack of response from Ilve and lack of curiosity about why one of their top of the line ovens - doesn’t work. You’d think they’d want to know.

Given Ilve reached out I thought I'd give an update. The service guy did replace the motherboard but that wasn't the problem (I don't think), in the end it was the temp sensors in each of the ovens failed. So I'm not 100% percent if he put the old motherboard back, or what - but - he replaced the sensors and now the oven works as it should. He charge maybe $900 all up. Bottom line - temperature sensors shouldn't die at all - let alone 12 month into the oven's lifespan. Not sure if this is an Ilve problem, or a lack of quality on all appliances now days.

Update - the service guy rang and said it might be possible to replace the mother boards and temperature sensors, then it should work. Does anyone have experience with this type of repair. I think the cost might be $1,000 or $2,000. Will we be just throwing good money after bad. Any advice appreciated.
