What a lemon
I took a new D'max for a test run and what a piece of rubbish. the manual gearbox is still faulty as it crunches when going from first to second and second to third when cold. This is a problem with the previous models and Isuzu refuse to fix it. Also the consul between the seats is too high and my elbow hits it when trying to go around a corner. The suspension is still the same as previous models so therefore is unable to carry the stated load. Also the brakes are the same as previous so wont pull up the vehicle when fully loaded. Do not know how it received a 5 star safety rating. I suppose if you drive it MT and run into a concrete block then it may be ok but who does that.

Crap car
Faulty Bought 2 brand new Izuzu vehicles last year. D-Max and Mux. Mix all good. D-Max a freaking lemon! Was recalled for rear suspension. Dealership has stuffed me around constantly. My windows stopped working and they don't even have the parts to fix it. Car used 4l of oil between 1st and 2nd service and it has a rattle in engine bay that sounds like a bunch of loose bearings. After sale care non existent! Would not recommend Izuzu to anyone!! No after sale service.

Great truck apart from minor issues
Hi bought this in late 2017 to replace a Toyota Hilux I had owned for 10 years.
When I first test drove it I bought it. Suited me perfectly.
Only 2 issues one is important to me the other not so much.
1. The bluetooth connection to my phone is almost unusable, so I have a separate unit to make calls etc. This means I have an AUX cable to play music from my phone but that doesn't always work. It's a PITA.
2. Turn off the radio and the road noise is quite bad. This is a minor issue for me.
It's done 60ks with no issues. Great truck.

3rd turbo in 73,000 kms
Purchased a dmax 2 years ago, done 73000 in that time. Currently getting it's 3rd turbo under warranty as the vane bushes cause the turbo vanes to flutter. Looses power at low speeds and hisses through exhaust.
It does a lot of driving with a trailer, 5 days is normal for turnaround from diagnosis to repair.
Questioned dealership and they ASSURE me that the new turbo is superseded with improved bushings?
My response, we'll see at 105000 kms.
Had the evaporator in the air conditioner done under warranty as the ac was not cold.

Improvement over the last model
Changed from a 2015 LS-T (RT-85) to a 2017 LS-U (RT-87). Both have been used to tow a 2000kg boat and they do most of the family trips these days as well.
As with the last model the ride improved significantly after the canopy & tow bar were added, just like the last one did I'm expecting it to settle a bit more once it has done a bit more towing and had the tray loaded a few times. The new model is much freer to rev, quieter and smoother than my old one, the old one did get quieter over time and lost the harshness but was always a little no...Read more
isy and never revved as freely as this one has done from new. Never had any reliability issues hence sticking with Isuzu. The auto transmission is a mixed bag in the new model. On the plus side it is very smooth under load and it makes for a quieter ride with the lower revs. On the downside the 4th - 5th gear spread of the new 6 speed auto is greater than the 4th - 5th spread in the old 5 speed auto, 6th gear is too high in most situations unless you are driving fast on flat roads. When towing around 90-100km/hr the torque converter rarely locks up and it seems to operate like a CVT if left in full auto - doing anything it can to get in to 6th - even to the extent 6th in auto mode will rev higher than manually selected 5th gear in the sequential mode. Now using the sequential mode when towing & hold it in 5th, mostly locks up the torque converter and the wider torque band of the new engine compensates so it holds 5th slightly better than the old model when towing, (although any incline will usually require 4th). Overall been happy with both D-Maxs, cheap to own, reliable and they do the job.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Poor gearbox and ilders high
From picking up from the dealership the gearbox clunks into 2nd and 3rd gear and down change back to 1st,The warranty is a waste of time,It ilders up to high and when slowing down with your foot off the accelerator it will take off by itself and may cause a accident

SO HAPPY TO OWN TWO OF THEM
One for work and one for family transport...
no big issues but on the next service I will get checked gear shifting as it sometime holding in lower gear and higher rpm longer on my LS M , on my SX is perfect no matter if the aircon is on.

Good but could be better with very little effort from Isusu
This truck is fully loaded all the time as it has a service body.
Problems specific with this truck are :
1/ Drive by wire throttle has way too much "DELAY OF THE MARK"
2/ Gearing is too tall making 6 gear useless under 110ks... I have to select hold in 5th to stop it hunting.
3/ Little Red display in the middle of the dash is unreadable for any person with over 50s vision.
Apart from the stuff above its great an I trust it to go forever.
The Auto Expert guy on YouTube recons the D-max is like a 10 year old Colorado and that upset me until I realized that he is correct, because I have a 10 year old Colorado and its is bullet proof, so we bought another one.

Tweed Heads Isuzu
I hate having to do this but here goes..... I took my Dmax in for its first service. 15000km. $350. Tweed Isuzu had it for 2 hrs. During the service they called me and said that there was unusual wear on the inside of the front right tyre and it needed to be rotated and balanced $50. I declined and told them I have a Brother in the tyre business and I'll get him to look at it. He's also a mechanic. That night I went to see him and we put the vehicle on the hoist to check the tyres and there was nothing wrong. We then noticed that the sump plug ...Read more
has never been removed and the oil filter hadn't been changed. We checked the oil and it hadn't been changed either. Very disappointing. I now have to contact Fair Trading NSW to see where I stand. Tweed Isuzu is also owned by Lismore, Ballina and Gold Coast Isuzu, The Frizelle Group. I can't contact anyone til Monday. I love the vehicle but it appears I bought it from a very disreputable company. Update: Isuzu Tweed contacted and I spoke to the Service Manager Bart. I told him what had happened and asked him to enquire and call me back with a thought out response. He said he trusted their head mechanic who assured him it was serviced correctly. I emailed him the photos I had taken of the dirty oil, unchanged original oil filter & untouched sump plug and he agreed that the mechanic had lied. He asked if he could have the vehicle back and it would be done properly. I agreed and did the 120km and half a day loss of work, it appears that the service was done correctly. I asked for the amended service records which I was told would be emailed to me the next day. As expected that hasnt happened. It is my opinion that the margins are so small for Dealers that the way they make money is on servicing, the way they increase that profit margin is to cut as many corners as possible, if the vehicle fails they do the repair and make money off the manufacturer warranty. The lesson learned is NOT TO USE DEALERS FOR SERVICING, especially the Frizelle Group. I hope this review helps you.Purchased in June 2019 at Isuzu Dealers for A$28,000.00.

Great Ute!
If you want a pretty ute at the sacrifice of reliability, don't buy a DMAX.
Bought my ute brand new in Jan 2019 after driving one for work for a few years and can't fault them!
If you're buying a Dual Cab 4x4 and your decision is influenced by its interior looks, you clearly haven't done your research!

Very unhappy with the clutch
We purchased a Dmax LS-M manual new in October 2019. Almost the first thing I noticed was that I was having to push the clutch pedal to the floor to get a reliable gear change. Took it back to the dealer for review and was told "they are all like that". As it turns out the clutch is hydraulic and supposedly self adjusting. It cannot be adjusted manually. I find pushing the pedal to the floor very wearing. I am hoping that somewhere along the line I find a solution in Google.
Also we live and work on a farm. Our surrounding roads are all dirt...Read more
and vary in condition from fair to dreadful. The LS-M has heavier rear suspension and is very uncomfortable on poor roads. It would no doubt improve with a good load in the back but 99% of our driving is with loads less the 100kg and mostly less than 20kg. If we end up keeping it I will need to do something about the rear suspension. At only 400kms I am not aware of anything it does particularly well but the engine does seem good to me. I have seen other reviews complaining about noise levels but coming from a Navara D22 it seems very quiet to us. All in all I think this purchase was a mistake for us given our circumstances.Purchased in October 2019.

2017 Isuzu dmax
Vehicle is used mostly for highway driving and towing a boat. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Truck engine so it is loud in the cabin, Bluetooth doesn't work very well. Fuel economy with mixture of highway local driving 850km to the tank. If you are looking for a reliable ute I recommend the dmax. Interior is cheap however it's not family vehicle. If you want pretty plastic I suggest you buy something else. If you want a work horse then it's a easy choice good old dmax

Uncomfortable, slow and noisy
Seriously uncomfortable. I do long driving and this Ute is the worse vehicle for comfort. The engine is hideously noisy and the transmission is terribly slow. The engine is horribly noisy and underpowered. The road noise is dreadful. The ride will make you feel sick on poor rod surfaces. Other than that it is a great car : /

Disappointed
We purchased a new Isuzu D-Max in good faith during November 2017 (with a three year loan repayment plan) for our farm where we grow cereal crops and run sheep. It is used daily in the paddocks and on both sealed and gravel roads. Tows a trailer when required. Regular servicing and well maintained. In April 2019 noticed a knocking noise the front passenger side and delivered it to the Dealership on the 8/5/19 to have this checked out. Our D-Max was deemed unroadworthy. It took Isuzu Australia until the 4/6/19 to admit liability and have our v...Read more
ehicle repaired under warranty. The radiator support panel wheel arch and skirt assembly are severely cracked as the metal appears not strong enough. And as of today the 8/7/19 after TWO MONTHS our vehicle is still totally dismantled in the Repair shop awaiting parts. We sent a letter of complaint to Customer Support on 2/7/19 and have received NO reply. We are just so disappointed with Isuzu Australia and their so called warranty. No Compensation and a lack of communication by Customer Support. Our Ute is one of the main vehicles on our property and we are at an extreme disadvantage without. This is just NOT good enough.Purchased in November 2017.

Just great stuff
Now on my seventh Isuzu 4wd ute.
Just a real honest workhorse.
Great on fuel and great in boggy sand, even with a boat hanging off the back (gotta get the tyre pressure spot on though).
I know that luck is part of the game with any car and I sympathize with anyone who has had problems.
(Had 2 wb holden utes...................one did 400,000 k's and still ran like new........the other blew up at 150,000.........hey go figure that out)
