Great kettle apart from the leaks and steam burn

Like others, I thought this was a great kettle until I started noticing the water on the base. Initially it was only when the kettle was more than half full and I thought it was bubbling over so I tried not to overfill it, now it happens regularly with only one or 2 cups of water. I've also noticed that steam travels up the inside of the handle somehow so if I pick it up too quickly I get a steam burn from the seam. Mines well out of warranty so I'm amazed to find this model is still being sold despite the multiple complaints and massive safety issues.
I've also found it boils for quite a while and wondered if this was contributing to the issue (leading me to take it off sooner and burn my hand on the steaming handle)

Loved everything about it- until it started leaking from the base and then stopped working.

Hi, Just wondering if the plastic on the lid and filter is BPA free? Or if that just applies to the glass which obviously doesn't contain BPA.
Thanks,
Kath

To be honest, no plastic is really safe when faced with extreme heat stress.
Plastics contain 100s of chemicals, many of which minic hormones in the human body. BPA is only one such chemical, bur there are still many more in most plastic

I would also like to know whether the plastic housing the filter is removeable. I want a kettle that is totally plastic-free and I cannot find one. Ones that look promising, such as this one, ruin it by having a plastic filter and filter housing or glue. Please take note kettle manufacturers - there is a market for high-quality BPA-free (and plastic free) and built for longevity. I tried buying a kettle from Italy that met this criteria at the grand price of $299 to get what I wanted - but the supplier failed me time and time again and it couldn't be supplied.

Don't know about the filter but the kettle died after 20 months

The filter is removable, but the plastic housing is not.

Although the filter can be removed, I would also like to remove the plastic housing in which the filter sits, to avoid pouring hot water through plastic. Is it possible? I tried prying at it with a knife and it bends quite easily, but seems to be glued down to the inner rim. Maybe some silicone remover will do the trick? I don't want to break it.
