Kanwal Veterinary Hospital

We have been using Kanwal Veterinary Hospital for three years and have outlaid quite a bit of money with them since we moved up the coast in October 2022. On Thursday 11th July 2025 i noticed a lump on my dogs back which doubled in size overnight so i called the vet to get an emergency consultation. After explaining the situation, the receptionist J----- told me they had no appointments available until the Monday following. I booked the Monday appointment but remembered afterwards that i had to go into hospital on that Monday and Tuesday following and the dog had to go to a puppysitter. I called back the vet and explained the situation to yet another receptionist A-- and basically begged her to squeeze me in on the Friday. She again said there were no appointments and with no empathy at all said she could book me in for the Wednesday following. This would mean nearly a week to get my dog in for what i considered an emergency. Somewhere in the conversation with her i said "this does not help, and you don't open Saturday" to which she replied " Oh yes, we are open Saturday" so i asked why the other receptionist had not told me this and could i book a Saturday appointment. She replied with "We only have two emergency appointments left on Saturday, but you can't book these, you will have to call back on Saturday morning and we will see if we can fit you in, or you could try another vet". The steam was starting to pour out of my ears by this stage so i asked her to have a Vet call me back. I never heard from anyone and Friday night about 9.00pm i became really worried about puppy, so we called an afterhours vet, Coast and Valleys, and they said we could bring her in now or first thing on the Saturday morning. We took her in on the Saturday to discover that the lump was a Haematoma. They initially put a compression bandage on the lump to hopefully push it back in but when it burst on the following Wednesday, she had to have surgery to open it up and clean up the wound. There were follow up visits as well to check on the healing process, all covered in the initial surgery fee. They were so wonderful and caring at Coast and Valleys and even though they are a little further away, we decided to switch over to them for future puppy care. We chose Kanwal Veterinary Hospital originally because they are just down the road from us with modern facilities and the fact that they advertise "Being Compassionate". They were very good at looking after our puppy by appointment only, but I don't believe they showed any "Compassion" when we needed them in an emergency situation.
They did it again. Read my previous review from 10 years ago. I took my 15 year old dog to the vet for a check up. He had stopped eating and I was getting worried. Being a pensioner, I asked reception to let me know before doing anything that would cost more than the standard consultation fee ($95). The vet checked out the dog, then took him into another room. I discovered that a blood sample had been taken. The dog was bought back into the consultation room. I was given the lead and told that the bill would be $364 and that I would get the blood results in a few days. I could no longer afford to take the dog back for a follow up visit. I decided to take him to a different vet. I rang the vet a few months later to get the blood results. They were emailed through to me, however I was told that his full medical record was the property of the vet and would only be sent to another vet. I am still searching for a good vet.
Worst vet on the coast – Terrible service made me pay for chill protocol tablets that my dog wouldn’t take. Then delayed my appointment serval times. Then demanded more money while my dog had a broken toe and nail. I was frustrated as my dog is in pain and limping. And then a week later told me to find another vet. Discussing vet and people were so rude. Asked for a refund they laughed. If you care about your pet stay very clear of this vet.
So Very Grateful ❤️ – We brought our mini fox terrier in with the side nail on his paw just hanging out, thou the vet was booked up their nurse Lauren took our dog in and removed the nail and bandaged it up, also clipped Maceys other nails too. We were so grateful that she could fit us in as it was late afternoon and all other vets around couldn’t help us. Thank you so much to Lauren and Kanwal Vet, ❤️
Staff and care here are amazing – The team here that took the time to see me last minute on a Sunday and helped my poor staffs went above and beyond. This place is amazing!
