Kathmandu Retreat 180

Great tent and quality – Great tent that has lasted us over 12 years and still going strong! Never had any issue with the poles. It has withstood floods and high winds, without any leaks or problems Show details
Do not use! Poles break – I love the size of this tent, but the poles just keep breaking. I am so over it! I thought Kathmandu would be decent quality but it's terrible.
Poles – I too have bent a fibreglass pole. Sadly I seem to have lost my bag of poles during a recent stay at Sheep Yard Flat? It's proving a challenge to purchase replacement poles in Jan 2017
Good tent but poles are shocking! – Had this tent for a few years now but from the very first use, it showed weakness in the poles. During the first camping trip, one of the pole bent forcing the tent to go out of shape while nearly ripping the tent. Kathmandu replaced the whole tent for us but the same problem showed. Each camping trip after that we 'lost' another pole. Sadly the… Read more
individual pole sections are not common so they are hard to replace (they haven't been in stock for a while in Kathmandu either). Tent size is great but the poles definitively need to be looked at. Poor architectural design I say. We met a few other campers on our journeys with this tent an all had the same problem.
UPDATE: Kathmandu has agreed to either replace the tent for us once more or issue us with a full credit (to be spent in Kathmandu's stores). We accepted the credit offer. So, final thought: Still not happy with the product but more satisfied with Kathmandu customer service.
Extremely weak tent poles – It's a great size for a family, however, after 2 days use the tent went out of shape on the top all by itself due to a failure in a pole & almost ripping a hole in the fly. Had to feed the one & only steel sleave supplied over the floppy pole to keep the tent in shape. When taking the tent down most of the poles had signs of bending & creasing @… Read more
the steel connections. I have never experienced this in all my camping life.
I firmly believe to bring spare sections of poles to do repairs each time that it will be used.
I cannot see Kathmandu Retreat tents being used each season without changing all the poles as you & your family will be sleeping in a crumpled, broken tent.
Kathmandu Retreat 180- Great family tent – Great tent when on special. Even though claim of waterproof and the seems on fly mesh etc are very good. It seems the ground sheet is only sealed at the main joins. But where there are reinforce points on the ground sheet it seems they are not seem sealed. Have contact company. However, in light to heavy rain did not leak. 4 people max in the… Read more
bedroom section with small bedding and stand up room in the front section. Goes back into bag (good quality) easily if you fold into quarters (length wise), and then roll up with pole bag in the middle.
One complaint is that water does bead (ie stay) over in bedroom section and not run off (even if pegged out properly), didnt drip but in heavy prolonged rain not sure if this would become an issue.
Plenty of openings and seems to be of good quality (minus the above points). Good for those that need a family tent but not intending to spend days in the rain. One solution would be to seam seal ($10 the reinforced peg sections), and make sure the tent is stretched as much as possible to reduce the small amount of water over the bed area.
