Kathmandu Retreat 60

Great for campsites – I am a 60 year old woman and regularly stay on campsites in this tent. I put it up on my own with no problem. The people below who reckoned the groundsheet let the rain through - are you sure that's where it came from? If the rear zip is not properly closed, the rain seeps through and drips on the inner, then into the tent. Make sure the zip is… Read more
closed tightly.
The people who said the poles bent - are you sure you put them together properly? Don't rely on the cord to snap the poles into place, do it yourself.
Both of these things are routine tent procedure which I would do with any tent.
This is an inexpensive tent, & does just what it says it will do. Car camping on campsites - great for that. It is not meant to be a robust trekking tent. It is very roomy for me on my own, and it takes me on my holidays several times a year. After many years of mountain trekking/camping with a mini tent, this is luxury.
K for KRAP!!! – Kathmandu hey??? Supposed to be a higher end store and product. Well you've blown your reputation with this tent! I don't exactly go bush bashing and the first night we used it on a nice grassy caravan park site and the water from a little rain came running through the groundsheet and soaked all the bedding. Really??? I also got sucked into the… Read more
discount price and even at that I would not have bought it had I known. It's not suitable for any wet weather, therefore useless!!! I will NEVER buy Kathmandu again.
No Wonder It's Discontinued! – I would have been really upset if we had of paid full price for this tent. As it is, we wasted $140 instead of the >$300 full price. We erected it in the backyard in order to get the plasticy smell out of it. The tent is roomy inside with a big front vestibule. Everything about this tent is heavy and clunky. But, we can live with that. … Read more
So, we erected it and left it there. Weather was fine, no strong winds or anything. Looked at it the second morning and saw that there was an angular 'elbow' jutting out near the top of the tent. Closer inspection revealed that a pole had bent to about 45 degrees where it inserts into the metal sleeve. I looked at all the poles at this apex arc of the tent and each one is beginning to bend. It appears to be a design fault in that the arc of the tent at the top is too strong for the length and strength of the top poles. Also, don't expect these poles to 'click' together and stay. Very low quality. As I said, definitely wouldn't want to have paid full price for this product.
We had hoped this tent would deliver a luxurious two person roominess. And it appears it would.... if it was structurally sound. We will be getting our money back and starting again.
Favourite getaway digs – I love this tent. It is not a tent for hiking, but if you are car based and want something small and practical, this is it. Two people and luggage easily fit in the main compartment and there is room to set up two festival chairs in the larger vestibule. Having two vestibules is handy and allows you to open both ends to permit airflow as well as… Read more
adding to space for storage of small items. Rain does not enter the main compartment, but you do need to be careful where you place items in the vestibules if rain is expected. I have often used this tent without the fly when the weather isn't wet or dewy, it has lots of netting and you almost feel you are really under the stars (and safe from bugs). I have used it in all weather conditions and have found it very sturdy, rarely have I needed to use the guy ropes, which makes for a quicker set up. The pegs are solid and able to go into hard ground that defeats lighter aluminium pegs. I have used this tent whilst touring for 6 weeks and found the only issue was trying to fit it all back into it's carry bag. After 5 years of frequent use in all terrains one of the zips started jamming...so I bought the same tent again when it was on sale and very good value.
Disappointed – I was told I could put a Queen Airbed in this tent and there would be a lot of room on either side of the bed but there was not much room at all. I placed a review on the Kathmandu site and they would not print my review. Very disappointed.
Great weekender for 2 – Comfortable size for two if you prefer to keep your gear inside and would rather not squeeze yourself into a tiny tent every night. Good for a weekend away, or even one night, but there are a lot of pegs to put in the ground so it's not exactly a fast pitch, but it is very manageable. Vestibule useful as an entry in bad weather but not hugely… Read more
handy for storage as it would block the front door somewhat and rain does get under the fly at the edges as it's a little way off the ground. Being able to open the back and front of the tent creates good airflow on a warm day. All in all a handy, comfy tent for short stays. Good value if you purchase at sale price.
Perfect tent – This tent is a rippa. Very strong and easy to set up (3 poles). great quality and small and compact. great features that other tents don't have. I think it is 2m by 2.5m. Waterproof zips which help to keep the rain out and zips to allow you to bring in an extension cord in the through the tent. Great tent highly recommended. Recommend all Kathmandu tents. reliable, cheap, small The bag problem, You need a qualification to fit it in the bag.
