The ultimate bike – I have a 1999 super sherpa with a massive stain tune race exhughst from a WR 426 and i’ve puted on bigger jetts in the carborator and new head gasket and she has nearly killed me buy reaching 130kph in forth and blew the back tire and hits a max top speed of 180kph in sixth but it can start in the cold at 10 degrees every time can sit on 100kph… Read more
with no dramas and i can get the same fuel consumption as a little hatch back yes it doesn’t have much power when unmoddifyed but it is as reliable as any honda and when out on a trail is like riding on a couch.Any person that’s thinking about buying one please do because it is extremely reliable and cheap to run plus my bike has done 55000 kelometers in its life time and still hauls and feels like a nice couch
What a great bike – Have had a 2004 model for a couple of years and initially was going to change the main and pilot jets to counter the cold running but have learnt to manage with a clothes peg on the choke. Checked the valve clearances at 20k and needed new shims for the exhaust(but not inlet). Expect that it will be 50k before I need to recheck. Brakes are not… Read more
the greatest but i may need to investigate.
A great little bike to ride fire trails and I'll probably just keep it for years. No wonder there's a line up of people wanting to buy one.
Excellent Dual Purpose bike – Purchased 6 years ago with low k's on it, and has been an excellent all-round bike, mainly used for road use, with some fire trails riding. Have installed new carbie jets, which improved starting and running, and engine definitely runs cooler. Not a powerful engine by any means, but I didn't buy it for that purpose, have other screamer bikes for… Read more
that type of riding. More than enough power when riding on the road however. Highly recommended for a low maintenance, leisurely ride. No plans to sell this bike, its a keeper.
Good 250cc Motorbike – Great little bike, my wife loves it. It has a lot of charm and is very reliable. :) Perfect for around town and exploring the outdoors. Love the 6 speed transmission which is a great plus. Perfect for shorter riders Female/Male, not powerful by any means, but i still enjoy riding it from time to time, just for the pure enjoyment. My wife still own it, and I would recommend it. Show details
Great reliable bike – I used to have this great little bike and I (almost) miss it. It took through a lot of adventure and it's extremely reliable and economical. The only down side is the lack of power, it's not that it doesn't have any but just that there are not a huge amount of it. It took me absolutly everywhere but if you go up a a mountain fully loaded just take… Read more
your time!
Pros:
Very light
Reliable
Hight clearance
Cons:
Slow on freeway
Not much power
Mediocre – PROS: - Great fuel economy - Digital gauges - Helmet lock - Lightweight with easy maneuverability - Dual sport CONS: - The bike has a high stance which takes away from handling - Mediocre in the dirt/sand trails due to the dual sport tires - Not the most attractive bike cosmetically - You will need to open the throttle all the way to… Read more
keep up with traffic sometimes
- The bike would rev through the roof if you took it on the highway
Good – Good bike for getting around on but has fairly low overall gearing that limits it on the highway. Steering is light which makes it easy to ride around town but not so good above 90kph or so. Looks like the build quality is good and has nice basic mechanicals. Riding position is good but pillion carrying is best limited to short rides as it… Read more
is a bit cramped for two, brakes and rear suspension are also not really suited to two-up riding. Good all-rounder 250 dual purpose bike, easy to ride and good power for its size. Limited capability on highway or with a pillion.
Good – The Sherpa is an awesome bike for the average trailider who just wants to ride with the boys. I can keep up to a factory KTM 125 on mine but that's nearly the limitations!!! The bike's worst issue I elieve is, because I'm a serious offroader, is the tin tank, no radiator and also the bike can be difficult to change tires on. I am soon moving up… Read more
to a KX-F but I am still gonna keep the love of my life, the Super Sherpa.
Great handling, easy to ride 4 a beginner but also good for the advanced (I still have fun on it) and can be used off road or to commute.
Overall, buy one!!!!!!!!! 6 speed, quite a lot of bottom end. Stupid tai-light, tin-tank
Excellent – 2007 model, 2800km. Excellent dual purpose bike, aimed more towards road use but the low seat height and centre of gravity make it excellent for steep off road work. Very soft suspension from the factory, but rear shock is fully adjustable for preload and rebound (although rebound adjustments unfortunatley require removal of the shock). I'd… Read more
suggest new fork springs and heavier fork oil would improve dive in the front under brakes.
Carb is set lean from the factory probably to pass emissions regulations in various countries. Richening the air/fuel mixture screw improves starting and warm-up and was done on mine by the dealer. A rejet kit is a common mod in the US to improve performance and to let the engine run a little cooler but I haven't installed yet (on order).
Exhaust is very nice quality stainless throughout. It seems restrictive, but sounds OK at higher revs. I've read that the stockman exhaust is more free-flowing...
Bike gives a nice induction noise under heavy acceleration even with the standard snorkel.
Brakes are discs front and read, with dual piston at the front - excellent.
Electrics seem fine with easy to use switches. A kick starter would be a nice backup though.
This bike's only competitor with a similar price and seat is the Yamaha XT250, but the Sherpa has a modern twin cam engine and rear disk. weight, brakes, looks, price no kick starter, no tacho
Good little machine – Bought with 5k, now has over 20k. Too lean from the factory. Fixed by changing jets. Nice clutch and gearbox. Don't put car oil in the bike! Mine sits on 6000rpm at 100km/h and doesn't vibrate too much. I have one extra tooth on the rear sprocket. Valves are great - same at 10k as they were at 20k. I can't quite get comfy on it,… Read more
I've changed the bars, pegs etc but I seem to arch my back when on it. It could be because it's lowered though; it's the Mrs's bike. I'm about 6'1 in boots.
Great balance at low speed. Good on juice.
Happy with it for what it is. Engine and gearbox.
