This does awesome eggs. After a few years I dont use it anymore for eggs, I use it to hold jiffy pots, with the dome on top, and over clear plastic containers to germinate my chilli plants. I dont use the powered base at all! Just the egg holder and dome lid, works awesomely Show reply

Best Gadget Ever! – Absolutely love this machine - it is a godsend! Would love to know how to clean the base though .... it looks rusty (but isn't) but don't what to use anything abrasive if it affects the product. Does anyone else have this problem? Show details

Messy and hazardous – Despite using the egg prick to release pressure, the first 6 out of 6 eggs I cooked (2 at a time) all burst during cooking and left a mess around the cooker to clean up. I also found that when attempting "medium" boiled eggs, the eggs continued to cook when left in the cooker past the buzzer time. The vent holes in lid release scalding hot steam… Read more

but it is not visible and has no warnings - care needs to be taken. The lead is quite short, and might not allow it to be placed under your exhaust fan. As noted in another review, the markings on the measuring cup are incorrect.

Overall a good cooker for your eggs – Have been boiling eggs in a water filled saucepan on a hot plate for years. Saw one of these going for $19 and thought it was worth a go at that price ...even if having some misgivings about being “too cheap”. Appearance The K-Mart Egg Cooker measures 225mm wide (including handles), 110mm deep and 140mm high (including clear cover). In accents of… Read more ·  1

white and clear plastic with a silver band around the base, it should match in with most kitchen décor. The power lead measure around 800mm in length but if that is too long, there is provision in the base to secure the extra length.

Operation Up to 6 eggs can be boiled simultaneously using the included rack. Water is added to the tray using a supplied measuring cup. The cup includes measures relating to the number of eggs being boiled and to accommodate whether you want hard/soft boiled etc. In the base of the cup is a sharp pin allowing you to pierce the egg shell to prevent the shell cracking during boiling and having egg ooze out. When not being used, there is a small plastic cap to protect the “pin” as it is very sharp. After adding eggs and the requisite level of water, the device is turned on by a rotary dial which has three settings. OFF/KEEP WARM/ON. After turning it on, it takes around twelve or so minutes to produce a single hard boiled egg. Haven’t had the need to try more than two so I cant comment on times but expect them to be somewhat similar. At the completion of the boiling cycle the device emits a shrill continuous tone (loud enough to be heard in nearby rooms. You have to turn it off to stop this. If you are still preparing associated condiments, the dial can be turned back to “KEEP WARM”

Overall Appliance is basic but does the job. Had mine for nearly four months with use most days of the week. So far, 100% reliable. Apart from some discolouration on the tray that holds the water (despite wiping after each use), still looks like the day I took it out of its packaging.

What I liked: * Simple and basic operation * Cheap to purchase * Does the job efficiently

What I don’t like: * Control knob feels very cheap and is difficult to turn with wet hands due to smooth surface. I now just turn it ON/OFF at the plug * With nearly four months use, the markings on the measuring cup are starting to fade near the bottom. Can’t explain why as it only has water in it and thus never needs washing * When winding the cord into the underside of the base, approximately the last 400mm is difficult to do

Does the job and is convenient – Although I am only rating this 3/5 stars, it is still a product I would recommend. This egg cooker takes the hassle out of boiling eggs. Before I was gifted this cooker, I would always have to check the internet for egg boiling times. I was not immune to forgetting that I had eggs on the stove until I could smell something burning. This egg… Read more

cooker can boil a convenient batch size of up to 6 eggs at a time. It comes with a sharp piercing point on the measuring cup, which is supposed to help prevent the eggs from bursting but also actually makes it extremely easy to peel the eggs once cooked.

Cooking the eggs is easy. My toddler actually helps me with all the non sharp, non burning parts of the process. We get the eggs out of the fridge, set the cooker up with the little egg tray on a safe spot of the bench near a power point, then pierce the eggs before putting them in the cooker. I measure out some water according to the measuring jug, we tip it in, put the lid on and turn the knob to on. When the eggs have been cooked (and the water has steamed itself away), the cooker emits a horrible, high pitched "beeeeeeep" sound. This prompts me to get to the egg cooker as soon as possible to turn it off/shut that blasted noise off. It doesn't turn off by itself, which is ok because I like to stop the cooking process with a cold water bath.

Taking the lid off is actually a bit scary since it is still quite steamy. Oven mitts are a good idea to help. I then use tongs to take the eggs out and dump them in a cold water bath. Once the cooker has cooled, I try to clean it. Unfortunately, the water that steams away seems to have stained the water tray. The lid and tray are easily washed in the sink.

The eggs are generally cooked ok. I don't cook eggs spot on when I do it on the stove, and don't expect a little gadget to be able to do it perfectly either. The eggs can come out perfect, over cooked or under cooked. I think it can come down to the ambient air temperature, the eggs' starting temperature and also what temperature the water comes out of the tap that day. The convenience definitely trumps the necessity for perfectly cooked eggs.

One more thing to mention is I still am not sure if the measuring jug is labelled correctly. I would assume more water means a longer cooking time, so it seems incorrect if the 1-2 eggs level is higher than the 5-6. I am not in need of the eggs being perfect, so I go the lesser amount of water. Perhaps this confusion is also contributing to my eggs not being cooked exactly as I want.

Magic boiled eggs the way they should be – Eggcellent product. Does perfect soft , medium or hard boiled eggs very quickly. I have found that the better results for soft boiled eggs are when I use the measuring jug for 2 or 4 eggs fill the water to show 6 eggs. Yes breakfast is awsome with rye toast and soft boiled eggs on a bed of finely chopped spinach with cheese through it. Highly recommend this product. Takes up very little space and easy to clean. Show details ·  1

It works but has a number of flaws – I use this egg cooker a few times a week and while it works, there are some minor inconveniences with it: 1) when the water boils, it gets frothy and starts leaking out. I have to use it on top of a towel for this reason 2) for some reason, the device does not turn off when it's done, it will simply sound a tone so you have to turn it off manually… Read more

3) the 'alarm' tone is EXTREMELY high pitch and unpleasant 4) even if you turn it off as quickly as possible, the surface of the device will be burnt and these burn marks cannot be removed no matter how hard you scrub it

With all that said, it still functions like it said it would as I mentioned so I am giving it two stars. However, I will be looking for a device which does not have as many flaws.

Love this gadget!! – I love purchasing gimmicky products but admit they don’t always work out haha. I was not expecting this to be so handy! There is a little measuring cup which helps you choose how you want your eggs to be cooked. I like my eggs runny so I wasn’t expecting this gadget to get it right, but actually this thing is very accurate! The eggs are finished… Read more ·  1

in a couple of minutes and there’s barely a clean up process. Im someone that keeps boiled eggs in the fridge all week so this thing is an absolute game changer. No mess, barely any clean up and very little effort. One of my best Kmart purchases for a tiny price!!

Anko Egg Cooker – Great for saving water and energy. The cooking time depends on the amount of water to fill in. I was expecting to cook the eggs within 10 minutes, but it took around 13 minute and 45 seconds for cook a full hard egg. Show reply

Excellent eggs every time! – This is an excellent egg cooker which does perfect eggs every time! No more sloppy undercooked white egg, and makes delicious runny yellow yolks. My kids (and I) love it! One thing to be aware of: on the supplied cup for the water level, the egg numbers are printed in the wrong order (on mine anyway), so you need to reverse them. For example, for… Read more

1 or 2 eggs, fill the water to the 5-6 line on the bottom and NOT to the 1-2 line on the top. That is, the more water you use, the harder the eggs will become. See image. I learned this by mistake when my first batch was overcooked (ie. hard yolks), but now the yolks are perfectly runny every time when I swap the order. Hopefully future versions of the cup will fix this printing error.

Perfect and cheap and best – It is a very good kitchen appliance that can be used to boil the eggs. Worked perfectly, low power consumption and the most important thing, it is cheaper. It has been proved that every cheap device is not good.
