Basic phone. Bad battery – A very basic phone... just as advertised. No complains about design or functionality. As already mentioned the battery is beyond bad... that makes my wife quite unhappy and grumpy (go and figure). Still, went to asperamobile.com and bought a new battery for $20. We'll see if that makes any difference. Show details

Rubbish Battery – Battery went on mine soon after purchase from Big W, lost my receipt so no warranty claim, Big W don't sell replacement batteries and I can't find them anywhere. Shouldn't retailers support the products they sell? Show details

A great little phone for retirees who don't need smart phone capabilities – It is small in size so fits in your pocket yet, because it is a flip phone, has a big keyboard and relatively large screen. The phone and text features work well and are easy to use. The manual is fairly comprehensive and using it to get you started is wise. The camera is not so hot, being very low resolution. OK to take a picture for purposes… Read more

such as showing a tradesman or shop assistant what an item looks like, but to send a record of your holiday snaps to rellies, don't bother. It's a no frills but effective phone for keeping in touch with friends and family, and it's cheap, so ideal for retirees who don't want a smart phone or find one too challenging. My wife and I bought two. If you are on Vodafone as we are, (and I think many other telcos do this too), Vodafone to Vodafone calls are free. This means you can call each other at any time at no cost. So all round the Konka U3 is an ideal phone for doing the basic stuff you need at a very reasonable cost.

Chunky phone, big buttons, terrible battery life – I wanted a simple non-smart phone. The konka has some attributes that I like such as flip opening and large buttons, but other aspects mean that I am, again, looking for a phone. Although I rarely use the thing, I had to charge it up every three days, which I find a pain, especially compared to my old (2G) phone that lasted for over a week between… Read more

charges. Also changing the settings, such as the ring tone etc, is very complicated - needlessly so, and the instruction manual is useless.

December 5th 2017 Update: terrible cheap phone with poor battery life

I have had a Konka U3 for about 3 months. I was looking for a simple phone for text messages and calls. While the phone does work, it has a host of flaws that means I am already looking for another phone. For starters they have made the menu screens and settings so hard to use - combined with a non-existent users guide - that even setting up the phone is a adventure in patience and tenacity. Then there is the problem with having two buttons on the outside of the phone meaning that one of the buttons is often inadventently pressed. This either results in hanging up on the person you are speaking to or changing the phones settings to hands-free - very annoying.

Then there is the poor battery life - 3 days tops, if you use it sparingly. Not good enough.

Now I have a problem where someone has sent me an image or video message and the phone has locked up completely. I can't delete the message or send or receive any other messages while this thing is downloading - as it has been doing now for 6 hours.

Avoid this phone.

An excellent choice for someone who wants just voice/text – When I was told by Telstra I had to upgrade from G2 to G4 I wasn't offered a choice of phone despite telling them I was only interested in Voice/Text. The smart phone they supplied was locked to Telstra and had access to the Internet. When I was charged $32 for a data download I queried the charge with them and they told me it was a software… Read more

update. That was the last straw so went to a Kmart (Big W had sold out) and bought an unlocked, Konka U3 prepaid phone. I've had it over 3 months now and it does everything I would ever want. (I might add I am a heavy Internet user but use my desk-top at home),

Downloading photos from the phone to your computer is straight forward using a USB cord. (make sure the phone is turned on and the phone will download photos without drama).

People who spend all of their time on the phone accessing different applications on the internet would probably complain about the keys not being soft rubber (hard on the fingers!!!!), the battery life (before recharging) etc so it is not the phone for them.

I challenged one user (by private message) who gave the phone the thumbs-down and after I pointed out his error he admitted he was wrong but he has another phone now and wasn't interested in correcting his review.

Don't expect more than you pay for – I have a Konka U3 mobile and for some time have been answering questions about the U3 asked by new owners on the forum section of 'Product Review'. One type of question that comes up time and time again is from people who buy this phone because it is cheap and then expect it to perform like an iPhone 8 or Galaxy Note 8, costing many times the U3's… Read more

price.

The phone is ideal for people, (typically seniors and children to keep in touch with their parents), who want a mobile just to send and receive calls and text messages. The seniors also appreciate the fairly large screen and keyboard and simple operation. The U3 does all of these and does them well.

As long as you realize all this and it fills your needs then the U3 is your cheap way to achieve it. If you want "bells and whistles" galore, then be prepared to pay for a much more expensive phone.

Buy a well known brand instead – Being a senior I purchased this very basic flip top phone (for $99 at Target ) because I thought it would be a reasonable duplicate of my old flip top Samsung which was working fine until I accidentally damaged it. another $40-$50 I could have purchased a Samsung smart phone. The manual is not comprehensive and I had to get most of my "how to" information from online advice offered by tech savvy members of the public on Product Review.com.au. Once again I have learnt the hard way - never buy cheap!

Very difficult to use – This phone uses a totally different 'logic' to mobiles such as samsung and nokia. I use the term logic loosely as it is inconsistent and unnecessarily complicated. A button which acts as the enter/ok button for one function won't do this for another function and ditto for which button takes you to the menu. A nightmare to use! I would NOT… Read more

Not very reliable – I purchased this phone 3 days ago, I like flip phones and they are hard to find nowadays. However, I wasn't happy with the battery, it appeared to be charged, I made a 5 minute phone call, the battery crashed. I put it on charge again at 10am, still charging at 4-30pm. I returned it and got a refund.  Show details

It's brand new and can't even get into it, because it's locked , purchased from K"mart – Recently brought a Konka mobile phone from K'mart. Upon setting it up , i put a security lock on it, through Google. But Google doesn't except the correct password. Even after following all the promps it still doesn't except the correct password. Then you get messed around with all the other stuff that also doesn't work.  Show details

Great phone for the Essentials – This is a great first phone and has worked perfectly. I will admit though it is not a phone for the dumb. It is a bit hard to navigate compared to a smartphone or iPad but once you get the hang of it, it is easy. It is a great phone a nd would recommend it to kids and adults alike.  Show details

Senior's phone – We just replaced the old man's rock solid Nokia Flip phone with this one. It is big enough to hold, big buttons for fat fingers, feels like a phone when holding it up to your ear and mouth, comes with a printed user guide (always essential for oldies). So far it is good. The manual doesn't provide enough obvious info to find the volume… Read more ·  3

Pretty bad basic phone – Had 2 of these phones now. The battery life is useless 1.5 days on standby. Half the screen has gone. Ringtone has faded away to almost nothing. i would not recommend this phone at all. also it is expensive at $99. The phone can make a call and receive, but to reply to a text is worse than useless. i am an experienced phone user but this is my husbands phone and i cannot work it out  Show details

Battery – I took the mobile Konka U3 to Roadhound under warranty. It turns out that the Battery was not the fault but a fault in the printed circuit. It was replaced and I had the mobile back in less than 36hrs. I found the people at Roadhound very receptive and helpful.  Show details

Great phone for the elderly – Great phone for the elderly, bought it for my dad and he loves it so simple to use as he was unable to use a smartphone as it was just to confusing for him. Very bad battery issues – We purchased this mobile late 2017 as a basic phone for making calls and sending texts. It has larger buttons which are needed due vision problems so we thought this would do. Upon purchasing this phone we have found the battery to be constantly low/empty even after just a day with barely any use. We will have to buy another phone shortly due to this!  Show details

Disappointing – My brother purchased as Xmas gift for elderly mother who wanted a no-frills phone - just something that was easy to send texts, and take and send photos (grand kids). A solid flip phone – I bought this when they turned off 2g network to replace my moto razr, and i was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. The buttons are big enough to not hit multiple buttons, loud ringer a super screen and the hinge seems to be quite solid. Great little phone – I wanted a Dumb Phone with no internet but it still has that. But it’s loud, it’s clear, it’s got all the basic features. Not worth the money! – I researched this phone, but after purchase at K Mart, found I couldn't hear on it; ringing volume poor, but worst of all, need to charge every day. I'm not a big user either. Good while it worked – A good easy to use phone while it works but be wary about where you purchase it. I bought mine from Australia Post and after 5 months the screen died. Reliable & affordable – This is a great little phone. Clear & easy to read displays, with a good size keypad. Not too complicated for an older, non-computer savvy senior! With the added screen protector it is tough & has survived being dropped, bumped & scratched. I would be happy to recommend this phone.  Show details

What a Piece of Crap – Battery is constantly flat. Spends more time on the charger than in my phone holster. The ring is too quiet. Can't raise the volume enough. The message alert is almost nonexistent. Does have big buttons, but if you can't hear it ring or hear the person on the other end, it really isn't good for seniors.  Show details

Should be better – The Konka U3 that I recently purchased is targeted to seniors and fits the bill except in the volume/ hands free/ loud speaker arear. I find it disappointing that the volume turned up to maximum only increases by a fraction and is definitely not enough for seniors. I hope my hearing does not deteriorate any further so I can keep using my Konka U3 as otherwise it is all good.  Show details
